gsparks01: Hello experts!
Please can I get a cost breakdown for a solar system that can run these for extended periods, not necessarily 24 hours?
1 Refrigerator, 2 TVs, 8 10w bulbs, microwave, 2 fans, phones, 1 laptop, blender when needed.
What would be a realistic budget?
Thank you! Microwave? Which type of fans? Rechargeable fans? How many watts blender? |

nairalanda1: Well, eventually removing subsidy would lead to our neighbours importing our fuel instead of importing it from oversease which is the main reason why they all have expensive fuel. So you want to leave your people, government policies and infrastructure at the mercy of profiteering refineries? Do you know minimum wage, national budget viz cost of building infrastructure are all tied to cost of fuel? So if refineries and marketers form cabal and increase price as they wish to maximise their profit, it's just okay for people to be buying expensive fuel while refiners are smiling home with billions? Do you even know how retail/wholesale trading works? Toothpaste for example may cost only 800 in factory, but in the grocery shop, you pay 2,000 so the retailer is getting 1,200 gross profit? You will just be punishing your people for nothing |
Travel › Re: This Is How Fuel Is Being Smuggled From Adamawa To Cameroon by oweniwe(m): 6:52am On Oct 21, 2024 |
nairalanda1: Cheap fuel did cause the smuggling problem.
Think of it. When fuel costs 65 naira in 2011 and same time it is over 100 in other countries what do you expect?
Also, may I remind you that Iran, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, Angola and Libya all have fuel smuggling issues for the same reason as Nigeria..Unless they are all being run by Nigerians, that means something's up.
Still does not excuse government though. Okay... But increasing price because of neighbouring countries is like cutting your nose to spit on your face (however they say the phrase) What if neighbouring countries are also increasing price as you are increasing your own? ... If fuel price is 800 in Nigeria now and 1600 in Cameroon.... And you increase price to 1,500 in Nigeria because you want to end smuggling.. and then Cameroon increase their price 3,000 .... So you will now increase your price to 3,000 too again because your 1,500 fuel is cheaper than Cameroon 3000 own.. Okay .. so you put the price to 3,000 per litre again ... Then Cameroon increase their price to 4,500.... You will now increase your price to 4,500 too because of Benin and Cameroon Abi? Now you can see your line of logic is very very |

dollarnaira: Not entirely true. Unless the user works from home with a good average load. People go to work kids go to school. Battery go charge...
Bad weather days, manage your load like salary wey jam fuel pump increase. Spend and use energy wisely. The time the photo was taken.. just Noon ... Yet zero harvest. It's not about people going to work for battery to charge because of ones battery and not big (and that cost millions), solar go off o The point is, when nature brings the unexpected and it goes on for days, one will definitely need back up from other sources of energy. If I'm complaining about no sun in southern Nigeria, what about people living in Amazon or Congo. Where rain fall most of the year? So one should have back up source to generate power in case...

I've actually been wondering if it is possible for renewal energy to take over from fossil fuels in the nearest future. But my experience with cloudy weather in August made me have a rethink In other parts of the world where they have various climates (winter, autumn, spring, summer) ... How will they see sun in winter and autumn? Eventually they'll have to run back to using fossil fuels/thermal/other non solar sources of energy. Solar is cool and lovely but I'll always keep gen back up for the weather Just random chitchat. Kind regards Boss |

Jerey09: Why? Any reason why there are no display led in any stadium in Nigeria? Except for South Africa, which i must admit to say, it's because of the influence of the white people there, (i know truth hurts) i have not seen display led in any black African country stadiums during tv matches. Is it that it’s too expensive or they just forbid it? I can’t wrap my head around this whole thing cos it’s really embarrassing seeing paper always plastered around the whole stadium for ads in this modern time. The money is there but whoever is in charge can't think that way. They'll rather use it to build empty mansions, buy latest Prado SUVs, and lodge ashawo in hotel for one month. The thing you are asking for, to the people in charge, is waste of money. Just play ball, score goal and win, that's the only thing that concern them |

ti4c: Hey guys, hope the holiday is going well.
I posted here a few months back for info and advice on budget, I appreciate your replies.
However, I need your advice as I have upgraded my solar battery and panel but it's not doing what I want in terms of power supply.
I upgraded it this Monday to a second hand mercury 220 ah battery(one year used), 400W panel and 30A charge controller(which I find useless cos I don't understand how to really read it).
My major use of the power is for my laptop (90W) cos I work from home and I need to be able to cahrge it at least twice a day. No fridge or TV, just the laptop, DC fan, phone, and bulbs.
During the day it charges laptop fast and carries the fan without issues.
The problem is that the battery doesn't last after sun goes down. Charging phone doesn't seem to do anything to the battery, it's when I plug the fan or laptop after sun down, it will immediately start blinking indicating low battery. I feel like the battery has lost its strength or something else I don't know.
For today, I charged my laptop and phone with it around 12 pm, by past 2pm NEPA brought light, I turned it off, I didn't use it again till 9 pm and once I plugged the fan, it started indicating battery low again, so I removed the fan. But right now my laptop is fully charged but still plugged in but it's not blinking but once I plug the fan it starts indicating battery low... I didn't understand how that is working.
I need your expert advice because I intend to return it on Wednesday and get a 120 ah new gel battery(that's what I initially wanted to buy).
Thank you! Go call the people that charge motor/trailer battery to come do electrolyte level test on the battery using hydrometer. Maybe the electrolyte level is too low. They will advise you accordingly after the test Secondly, it seems your charge controller is PWM. if your solar panel is single 400w, you should get MPPT charge controller cos it is not recommended to PWM with panels above 250w. Cheers
