Please, I got a new Samsung S9+ from a friend in the UK as a gift and sent through DHL to Nigeria on Wednesday. Unknown to me, he did not use it to make about 5 minutes call with an European sim card and on getting to me in Nigeria, I just pumped in my sim. The phone was subsequently displayed that itnhss not been enhanced to work with my sim. Do I have to send it back to UK or what do I do? I think it ids called Region Lock. Thanks. |

Crisis at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, has reached a new height with unrestrained resignations of nurses, doctors, consultants, pharmacists and other categories of health workers. At a press conference held in Ogbomoso on Thursday, Chairman of the Medical and Dental Consultant Association of Nigeria, LAUTECHTH branch, Dr. Afolabi Salawu, said no fewer than 100 nurses, 20 consultant staff, 10 laboratory scientists, five physiotherapists, six pharmacists and many resident doctors and ward orderlies had left the hospital in the last five months. He said this has crippled services in the hospital, with no staff to attend to patients. Salawu, who spoke on behalf of all the labour unions at the teaching hospital, said the press conference was called to draw the attention of the Oyo State Government to the result of its failure to pay salaries of all categories of workers in the health institution. He said, “In the last five months, more than 100 nurses, 20 consultant staff, many resident doctors, 10 laboratory scientists, five physiotherapists, six pharmacists and a number of ward orderlies have left the hospital for greener pastures, thereby depleting the work force. “If this trend continues, the hospital will soon go extinct in a short while, but this is not the desire of any member of staff. “Access to health care must not be snatched from the reach of the common man, so we desire. The irregular 50 per cent salary being paid to the hospital since January 2016 is killing the morale of the entire staff; more so, knowing that all other hospital staff in Oyo State are being paid their salaries in full despite economic recession. “Health care is a social responsibility by the government to the people. There is no teaching hospital in Nigeria that can pay up to 10 per cent of their salary with internally generated revenue.” While noting that foreign health institutions have lately been focusing on luring specialists and experts from the hospital, Salawu appealed to the state government to promptly pay salary arrears of the workers from January 2016 till date. “The teaching hospital is bedeviled by a number of challenges, which include non completion of the infrastructure and failure of contractors to either supply or install equipment already paid for more than eight years ago by the Oyo State government. “The most challenging of all the problems confronting the hospital is the half salary payment to the hospital by the state government. “It is imperative here to clarify that the state government is fully aware of the difference between a health institution and an educational institution.” @lalasticlala |
