Career / Discover The 4 Secrets To Changing Your Career Path Without Feeling Overwhelmed. by paleke(m): 4:01pm On Feb 28, 2019
1: Conduct your self-assessment:

Take a look at what skills you have enjoyed, your work value, what gets you excited on Monday morning. You’re probably going to find something, some threads and some patterns. Why do you want to make this career change? What do you like about your current Job? What do you not like about it? Perhaps, you don’t really need a career change but a job change. You may also need a total career change. Determine what is transferable.

2: Develop an organized action plan with goals:

what roles do you want? What exactly do you want? To answer these questions, you will need to do a lot of research. Conduct series of informational meetings, talk to people who are doing what you would like to do, become a mini-expert, find out about leads and build relationships. From your research, you will find out there are some missing pieces, holes or gaps. Possibly, you don’t have the right education to make that career change. That will bring us to questions like the need for an additional degree, first degree, certifications, workshop or seminars.
You may need to also get some hands on experience like internship, volunteering, temporary work or freelance work.

3: Market yourself:

This is very important. Sell yourself, understand how you add value. You may have to revamp your resume. A resume is not a mini biography but a relevant marketing document. You endeavor to highlight your transferable skills. It is also important not to just rely on your resume, the number one job searching strategy is networking.

4: Do a reality check:

What are the pros and cons to making a career change? What sacrifices do you have to make? Do you have to take an entry level position, do you have to take a pay cut. It takes time and hard work, patience, persistence, creativity, resourcefulness and you will want to have a support team.
