SWITCH-ON NGO IN COLLABORATION WITH SIM MEDIA VOLUNTEERS REACHED OUT TO FLOOD IDPs CAMP

Following the flood ravaging the communities in Ŕivers state, the SWITCH-ON outreach in collaboration with Sim Media Volunteers visited one of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Iheaje Community in Ahoada East Local Government Area, with relief materials to cushion the effects of the numerous challenges the Ekpeye internally displaced persons are facing.

It was a frenzy moment as elders, mothers and children accommodated in the Iheaje IDP Camp celebrate and give thanks to God for sending help to them in their time of need.

The Coordinator of the SWITCH-ON Outreach Hon Mrs Sotonye Toby Fulton during the presentation of the relief materials, which includes provisions, toiletries,foodstuffs, cooking gas and other essential items to the IDP Camp to identified with their suffering, expressed
her heart felt sympathy, when she said " any thing that affects you also affect us, and the flood is a natural disaster that affect both the rich and the poor". She appealed to the Camp Chairman to judiciously distribute the items to those affected by the flood.

During the course of interaction with the Camp dwellers, three mothers who just delivered in the IDP Camp, were encouraged with some financial support to enable them get medical care.

Words of exhortation and special prayer session was conducted to give hope to the flood victims.
As they appreciate the kind gesture of the group, while praying for God to replenish the source of the donors.

Wydad Casablanca stops Rivers United training with police officers

Nigeria Professional Football League champions Rivers United have been prevented from leaving their hotel by Moroccan police officers ahead of their crucial return leg in the first round of the CAF Champions League.

The Pride of Rivers who landed in Morocco in the late hours of Thursday had secured a facility for training this afternoon in preparation for the game. However, in the process of leaving for the training session, police officers have restricted the players and officials of the team from leaving the hotel citing not getting clearance from the government, in spite of the facility being paid for.

Rivers United are duly scheduled to train at the Mohammed V Stadium on Saturday as mandated by CAF, but, on a good account the team has learnt that they will be prevented from using the said facility tomorrow as well.

The team has so far informed the Nigerian embassy in Morocco of this shocking development through the Nigeria Football Federation who has also informed the Confederation of African Football (CAF) while we wait for their response.

Protest against the former Permanent Secretary,Mr.Honour Sirawoo and President of Sports Writer's Association of Nigeria whom they alleged to have deprived them of various entitlements and allowances in different competitions.
They include para-athletes.

The Lagos State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (Lagos SWAN) has petitioned the Lagos State Commissioner for Police, CP Abiodun Alabi over the activities of Aaron Akerejola (Arise Television), Olatutu Oladunni, Oluwole Alakija and other unscrupulous elements parading themselves as the caretaker committee of the association despite an existing court order.

This move became imperative following plans by Akerejola and his group to hold a kangaroo election on Tuesday, 11th October 2022 in furtherance of their contempt of Court and total disrespect for court Order. The association noted that any support from the Nigerian Police Force by providing personnel for such an illegal and unlawful gathering is a clear breach of subsisting express order of the court and would be tantamount to contempt of the Court.

In a petition written on its behalf by Salami T. Agbaje ESQ, the association said the latest attempt is blatant disobedience of a binding mandatory order barring disputing parties from taking any step in the subject matter until 17th October 2022 delivered on 27th July 2022. This was sequel to a suit No. NICN/LA/165/2022 filed by Lagos SWAN pending before the Administrative Judge of National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Lagos Division, Honourable Justice M. N. Esowe between Adebowale Olajire Oshundun & Ors V. Aaron Akerejola, Olatutu Oladunni, Oluwole Alakija & Ors.

In the petition copied where the Director, Department of State Security (DSS), Lagos State Command, The Honourable Justice M.N Esowe, National Industrial Court, Ikoyi; Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Alusa; Assistant Inspector General, Zone 2, Onikan and the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Lagos SWAN, Lagos SWAN said the Self-styled Caretaker Committee has continued to intimidate law-abiding members of the association with the help of men of the NPF following the invasion and forceful takeover of the association's secretariat on the 11th of February, 2022 situated inside the National Stadium, Lagos.

The petition urged the Lagos State Police Command to refuse any invitation by the Self-Style Caretaker Committee to seek the assistance of the Police or its men in aid of the unlawful and illegal conduct which is a brazen assault on the Rule of Law; the sanctity of the Judicial authority and sacred court order.
