NNPC, KEBBI STATE PARTNER ON 84MILLION LITRES OF FUEL-ETHANOL PROJECT
…As Parties Sign MoU on Biofuels
As part of efforts to transform the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) into an integrated energy company, the Corporation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kebbi State Government to build an 84 million litres per annum capacity fuel-ethanol products project.
The Kebbi State Governor, Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, who led a high powered delegation representing every strata of the state, congratulated President Buhari and the GMD of NNPC for the vision of the biofuels project, stressing that the move would transform the NNPC into a fully-fledged energy company.
Governor Bagudu stated that the energy sector was an evolving one, adding that Kebbi State was thankful for the opportunity to partner with the NNPC on the biofuels project.
“GMD and top management of the NNPC, we in Kebbi State will do our utmost best to make sure that the objective of the biofuel project is realized,” he reassured.
The MoU is to commence the practical implementation of the NNPC Fuel-Ethanol Projects in Kalgo and Koko Besse Local Government areas of Kebbi State. Dr. Maikanti Baru the Group Managing Director of NNPC noted that the Sugarcane and Cassava-Fuel Ethanol Project in Kebbi State would involve the development of 20,000 hectares of an integrated plantation and plant complex.
The GMD listed the benefits of the project
which include: creation of rural wealth, generation of 1,000,000 direct and indirect jobs, generation of about 64 megawatts of bio-electricity from co-generation which will power the plant and lighten up the surrounding communities, effecting reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions, production of refined sugar and Industrial starch as well as production of animal feeds.
In attendance were HRH Emir of Argungu, State Executive Members, Senators and representatives of the House of Assembly, Party Chairman amongst other dignitaries.

The Executive Governor of Kebbi State, Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu on the 9th of November, 2017 was at the production plant of Dairy Giant, FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria PLC, located in Ogba, Lagos State.
Governor Bagudus’ administration is looking to grow the diary industry and tap into the experience of the company to empower dairy farmers in Kebbi State with added emphasis on women.

The dairy organization commenced a ‘Dairy Development Program’ in August 2010 to build up commercial scale dairy farming and works with local dairy farmers that have milked for subsistence for generations.

The company, popularly known for products like Peak Milk and Three Crowns Milk took the Governor and his team on a tour of their facilities and presented their history explaining that they have been a part of most Nigerian homes since 1954 through their flagship brand, Peak MilK.

The Kebbi team were received by Managing Director, Mr. Ben Langat; Corporate Affairs Director, Mrs. Ore Famurewa and Operations Director, Mr. Doyin Ashiru. In attendance were the Kebbi State Permanent Secretary of State Ministry of Animal Health, Special Adviser, Ibrahim Bande and Hon. Usman Belkore amongst others.

By sharing knowledge and providing a market for these farmers, FrieslandCampina WAMCO contributes to improving the quality and quantity of raw milk, the social position of farmers and also increase self-sufficiency/food security of the nation.
