By Kelly Rwamapera Heavy downpour that intensified countrywide on Sunday through Monday morning has so far led to loss of more lives through mudslides, especially in the districts of Rulindo, Karongi, Nyarugenge and Rubavu. According to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Refugees Affairs, (MIDIMAR) a tentative report of the weekend rains. Karongi District was worst hit, with18 people killed, 12 hospitalised and 120 houses totally destroyed. The rains caused a mudslide that submerged houses in which people were sleeping, a tragedy that occurred in the cells of Bisesero, Rubazo and Gasata all in Rwankuba Sector. According to Jean Baptiste Nsengiyumva, the Director of Risk Reduction and Preparedness Unit at MIDIMAR, they are working closely with local authorities to have more up to date information on the countrywide disasters. "We expect numbers to go up because we're still collecting more information from across the country," said Nsengiyumva. Speaking to The New Times, Védaste Kuzabaganwa, the Executive Secretary Rwankuba Sector said they had been appealing to residents to relocate from the risky zones and that it was unfortunate that some were killed before they could relocate. "Many families have moved to settle in model villages but some are still in their houses below the hills in areas which are very prone to landslides," Kuzabaganwa said. Meanwhile in Nyabugogo Cell, Kigali Sector of Nyarugenge District, a family of eight was swept away by a mudslide. Three instantly died on the spot while the rest are still in hospital. In Rubavu and Rulindo districts, four people were reported dead and four houses totally destroyed by landslides while in Nyamasheke District, one person was killed. In Nyabihu District two houses were destroyed while in Nyamagabe District one person was injured and two housed damaged. Recently, the Minister of Local Government announced they were determined to relocate people from high risk areas saying that where necessary, force would be used to move them to safety. The Mountain is the strongest man on “Game of Thrones.” Now he’s the strongest man in the real world as well. Hafthor Julius Bjornsson took a break from playing Gregor Clegane, the brutal warrior known as the Mountain, and won the long-running World’s Strongest Man competition on Sunday in the Philippines. Bjornsson, 29, has been a regular in the competition and had three second- and three third-place finishes over the years, but had never previously won. “It’s my passion and my dream to become the world’s strongest man,” he said in a 2016 profile in which he shared his workout secrets with The New York Times. “I would like to win the World’s Strongest Man competition, as you would win best writer in the world. Is that a title that exists?” Bjornsson certainly qualifies as a figurative Mountain. He checks in at 6-feet-9-inches and 400 pounds. But he is far from the merciless monster he depicts on television. A scene in which he crushed a foe’s skull with his bare hands “actually made my heart hurt,” he said in 2014. The World’s Strongest competition will be shown in the United States on CBS beginning in June. Among the events Bjornsson contested this year were the Car Deadlift, the Truck Pull and a grueling Loading Race in which he hauled anchors, anvils and other heavy objects. After the victory, Bjornsson posted a photograph of himself lifting the trophy on his Instagram account, adding “Want to thank all of my family, friends and fans for supporting me along the way.” The World’s Strongest Man was originally a made-for-TV American-based event in the 1970s, held at Universal Studios in California. A 22-year-old trader, Musa Mohamed, was yesterday caught having canal knowledge of 12- year -old Sadiq Abdullai, through the anus at Katangwa market, Oke-Odo area of Lagos. According to a report from Vanguard a trader at Katangwa market who had gone to ease himself by 12 midnight raised the alarm which alerted other traders who were sleeping in the market, on sighting the duo. The suspects , were subsequently handed to policemen at Oke-Odo division from where the case was transferred to the Gender section of the Lagos State Police Command. Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command Imohimi Edgal , who confirmed the arrest, said “ One of the suspects,Mohammed, was arrested while the other who is a minor is currently under shelter. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un made history on Friday as he crossed into South Korea to hold talks with President Moon Jae-in. The Nigerian Army have vowed to Go after gunmen and their sponsors that have been responsible for the rampant killings in Benue state. Director, Defence Information, Brig. Gen. John Agim in an interview with newsmen on Thursday also alleged that the fresh rounds of killing in Benue state were being sponsored. “We will get both the herdsmen and their sponsors. “We want to say this to the killers and their sponsors that the military is coming for them. We are going to get both the killers and their sponsors very soon. “The military is continuing with all its operations in the areas. Nigerians will soon see a change of approach in our operations,". He also briefed newsmen that the army have been recovering guns and several other weapons from herdsmen and locals in the state in a bid to be fair to parties involved. Agim said, “Some of the weapons we recovered were seized from the herdsmen. Others are not from the herdsmen. The Dane guns we seized were not from the herdsmen. The military cannot go into an environment to support any side. “We seized weapons from everyone who had weapons. Some of the weapons were also obtained during engagements with these criminals". Gen. AHEAD of 2019 presidential election, over 200
Southeast traditional rulers from Imo state, yesterday, backed
President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2019 re-election bid. The monarchs reached the decision in a meeting, which took place at Okigwe Local Government Area in the state which was contained in a communique read by His Royal Majesty, Eze Oliver Ohanwe. But in what seemed like one of their reasons for supporting Buhari, the monarchs asked the president to support the Igbo to produce the next president of Nigeria in 2023. The communique read: “We thank the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari for his selfless and dedicated service to the nation, his commitment to ensure common good for all and his unwavering drive for the peace, unity and progress of the country. “We are completely convinced that the policies and templates of development already laid down by the president in the last three years was based on critical thinking, careful and strategic planning and would catalyse rapid national development in his second term. “The president was essentially elected on the firm promise to tackle corruption and security. “This administration has given a lot of fillip to these noble agenda. With the president’s grit and strategic support to the relevant institutions, corruption in our national life has practically reduced by more than 75 per cent. “He has justified the huge magnitude of the mandate freely given to him in 2015 which cut across ethnic, religious and even patisan lines, having a clear message which is no escape from change and has restored the dignity of our country. “Buhari has put the economy on the part of sustainable growth, revitalized our ailing institutions and strengthened resolve and determination to ensure that change has really come.” “Were the entire members of the Council of Ndi Eze, with our citizens, alongside the overwhelming majority of Nigerians completely align ourselves with the President’s patriotic response to the various calls to seek re-election in 2019. “We assure Mr. of our unalloyed support. Controversy over President Muhammadu Buhari’s
characterization of Nigerian youths has taken a new
dimension with a page being created on Wikipedia in
acknowledgment of the social media revolt of young Nigerians
against their description, tagged, #LazyNigerianYouths.
While speaking at a forum during the just concluded
Commonwealth Summit, the President had said that youths in
Nigeria want to sit down and do nothing, yet expect to get
everything free because their country is an oil producing
nation.
The comment stirs up angry reactions from young Nigerians
who immediately implied Buhari’s statement to mean that
they are lazy.
Wikipedia described the trend as a social media outrage by
Nigerian youths.
On Wikipedia’s page, the social media outrage was described
as, “The Lazy Nigerian Youths (Also known as "#
LazyNigerianYouth" or simply "#LazyYouth"  is a social
media revolt by Nigerian youths against their President,
Muhammadu Buhari. While speaking at the Commonwealth
Business Forum in Westminster in April Buhari said a lot of
Nigerian youths have not been to school and they want
everything free because the country is an oil-producing state.

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, the wife of
Prince William , gave birth to the couple's third child on
Monday, a son who becomes the fifth in line to the British
