FoodHow Much Is Cooking Gas In Your Area by Patrickker(op): 2:36pm On May 23
So today I wanted to cook food and eat only to run out of gas in the middle of cooking. I quickly dashed out so I could refill half a KG and manage until when I am paid at the end of this month. To my amazement I was told a KG of gas is now 2500 naira here in Ikorodu, Lagos, and half would be 1,250 naira. This threw my into confusion immediately because the last amount of money I had in my account was 1,200. Rewind to last month this time, a KG of gas sold for about 1,400 naira in my area this is almost 100 percent increment. I ended up begging the seller to know how I could just get a 1000 worth of refill just to finish up what I started cooking.

Now this is the sorry state this country in sinking deep into. Even the things that poor people could afford are gradually getting beyond our reach - basic food items, data, transport cost, wears, fuel, electricity bill, gas etc.

Countries that sell oil like Angola and Libya in Africa benefit in one way or the other from the proceeds through state funded infrastructure (roads, housing, hospitals and schools), employment opportunities via local content laws, and subsidized goods like fuel. What do we Nigerians benefit from oil for being arguably the biggest producer of the product on the continent? Absolutely nothing. Subsidy came and left... We are left with little options than to fend for everything and do so exorbitantly.

Now let's drive it home. Before you come here casting aspersions, I want to state categorically clear that I am a Nigerian first, before any other affiliation of some sort. This hardship is now felt to our marrows. When I bought that gas today, the seller didn't ask me which tribe, religion or part of Nigeria I came from. She took my money (the last) that I had and shoved the product down my throat.

When we were voting in 2023, we were reminded that elections come with consequences, now it has become clear even to the blind. I am not a card carrying party member of any party, I have my PVC but I didn't vote. As a matter of fact I have never voted in any general elections in Nigeria because since the return of democracy I have being acting as an adhoc staff to INEC, so that restricts me to cast my vote. But this time, today, I changed my mind. I will vote in this coming general elections. I won't apply for any adhoc role. As an insider, I know how things work (another story for another day). But truly, even if my vote doesn't count, my conscience will.

I am coming unapologetically clear on this one that Tinubu was a mistake of a choice hence we are all feeling it. He doesn't really clear. I will so mobilize against his candidature in 2027. At least I will start from my village. If it hurts like this during his first tenure, I am no prophet but believe me we will bleed 🩸 in 2027 if he returns. This man will so tax our poverty that we ll all wish we were not born in this country.

Please get your PVC done if you don't have one and make sure you don't stand and watch. Please note, I am not demarketing Tinubu so I can sell my favorite candidate, no. That is why in my write up I didn't mention any names. Vote for your choice candidate, but remember 2027 is another four years and it will be long or short depending on the choices we make.

I'm not insensitive but village people can do some kind of weird things though.

Like why did they put the snake on display, sit down and start looking at it?

Sad for the young man who lost his life though.

This seems to be the year of snake bites related deaths!
I don't think any meaning is attached other than mourning and looking at what took their son's life.

Why are we Nigerians always like this? We are very quick to spew negatives only about our country on public fora. This is what you hardly see other people from other countries do. Are those countries perfect? No. Are their citizens satisfied with their leaders? No. Their jibes aren't like ours. Then when all these South Africans, Ghanaians, Kenyans and now the Namibians who equally have a lot going on their countries come here to read our derogatory comments about our own country and decide to get back at us, we complain. We need to learn how to talk even when we have a lot to say. It is wisdom.
PoliticsRe: Peter Obi: Tinubu Has Spent Only 8 Days In Nigeria In 2026 by Patrickker(m): 1:36pm On Feb 01
When we Nigerians have a serious president, no one will tell us, we ll know. The president will travel to more states in Nigeria than around the world and these travels won't be politically/campaign based but issue-based. The stupendous amount spent on foreign trips in a month alone can build Federal roads across as many as three to four states. Our presidents are wasteful and irresponsible to say the least.

The youths should be arrested and prosecuted.

Vandalism is not part of politics and will never be condoned.

The police should swiftly arrest the youths and get them locked up behind bars, pending prosecution.
But plundering and siphoning our common wealth is. We Nigerians are not ready yet.

Egypt is most definitely a developing country
ALL, I repeat ALL African countries are still developing. We are all still struggling with open defeacation, endemic poverty, high unemployment rates, insecurity, HIV/diseases spread, high crime rates, high inequality and all other indices that properly define developing nations in that regard. It is not all about beautiful cities and structures. Funnily so, most African countries are now already closing in on fine structures here and there. I have traveled around enough and I am safe to tell you that Africa is yet to have a developed nation in the sense of the word.
TravelRe: Rwandans Say ''Nigeria Is The Giant Of Africa And We Love Them!'' (Video) by Patrickker(m): 7:07am On Oct 20, 2025
I think a black South Africans is naturally wired to be COMPETITIVE and ENVIOUS especially of a fellow black who is doing better than them. If there is anything they guide to the latter and make sure they practicalize is their vituperative tendencies towards a fellow black man.

The Ghanaians I must say aren't deep haters as the South Africans. They know when to quit. They also know when to turn up and support. The Ghanaians don't argue too much like the South Africans do. That is the difference. If I were to choose who to go with, with all things being equal, I would still a million times choose Ghanaians. They are very reasonable and lovable people with a soft heart that melt after time, but you see South Africans they believe in violence and killings as the ultimate penalty.

We West Africans slept for far too long on developing our region in particular and then our countries in general. If only we made strides like the other regions did/are doing, a lot of stuff would have been avoided.

In my years of engagement on social media, the country that hates Nigeria/Nigerians without apologies is South Africa. They want the Ghanaians to follow them hating on Nigerians but the Ghanaians sometimes backtrack. The rest of Africans see Nigeria/Nigerians differently.

PoliticsRe: World Bank Dismisses Nigeria’s Single-Digit Inflation Target by Patrickker(m): 10:29am On Oct 08, 2025
saintopus:
I feel its possible for Nigeria to do the single digit inflation. The highest inflation rate is recorded in food stuff. I think the government is trying, the food prices are gradually coming down, at least it is not as it was late last year and early this year.
Maybe things may get better.
What made food prices to go high in the first place? Chiefly, Insecurity. The farmers are killed, raped and chased away from their farms. What concrete measures are in place to turn the tide for food prices to crash consequently? Your guess is as good as mine - nothing. This is not a wishful thinking. The efforts must be intentional, deliberate and forthright. Let's not be playing with stats like toys at children's disposal.

As a Benue indigene, with crude tools like most of our families use, my mother's farm alone could average 3 to 4 trucks (911) of yams every farming season. All of that stopped with Fulani herdsmen killings up and down. This is not magic, it is a reality faced.

Since I was young and now I am getting old, Nigeria basically has constantly struggled with three keys issues for very long time without finding solutions - electricity, insecurity and corruption. We now collectively have agreed that we have lost it.

Senseless aspersions. Who elects in Nigeria anyway? 70 percent of those in public positions superimposed themselves there using the INEC and Judiciary. You should have known this if your IQ were a bit higher than the people you are negatively painting with the same brush.

I had severe toothache for months that literally robbed me of everything comfort. From sleep to eating/chewing. I understood it was tooth decay with the tooth chopped inside. I tried every common pain killer on the counter, nothing worked save a few moments of relief. I tried a tooth powder (Dr Show) from a local vendor. I bought it in Ikorodu for 400 naira just to try my luck having ran out of options. That powder surprisingly worked for me. The pain has now reduced from 100 to some 5 percent. It is the powder I use now.
