She married Black Panthers leader stockley carmicheal in 1968 and they were divorced in 1978

Having turned down a proposal from the then-guinea,sekou toure president of guinea,makeba married airline executive Bageot Bah in 1980.

After making a national name for herself by singing and recording in jo'burgs legendary sophiatown throughout the 1950's.Makeba's big break arrived when she landed a lead role in Todd Matshikiza's 1959 stage musical King Kong whixh ran into londons west End for two years

One of the many highligths in her six decade career was singing for then US president john F kennedy at hus birthday party @ newyork ciity-s Madison square Garden in 1962

She wasn't feeling well on the nigth and declined an invitation to an after party with the president but kennedy insisted on meeting her."Belafonte sent his people to pick ♍ε̲̣̣̣̥ up and I went back and shook his hand,then went back to -̶̯͡»̶̥✽̸̨̨̤̥̈̊͡ᵐ̲ʸ̲ little flat.I was very happy to Ђαvξ met a president of the US-little ♍ε̲̣̣̣̥!"She laughed

After winning a grammy award for an album recorded with Belafonte in 1965,makebas international fame hit its peak with global release of the single"Pata Pata"which means "touch Touch"in xhosa

Makeba popularity declined rapidly in the US after she married stockley carmicheal who was the leader of the black revolutionary org black panthers.makeba core white audience turned their back on her.concernt was cancelled,recording contract dropped

It was very painful to be in exile"she said "sometimes people would come from home with church groups to sing and when they I'd left go to the airport and wave then I would go back to the car and just cry.the most painful thing was that when -̶̯͡»̶̥✽̸̨̨̤̥̈̊͡ᵐ̲ʸ̲ mother died I couldn't go to bury her.but hey,that's life and I cannot afford to just sit here and say notin ot do notinm

By her own admission,the most difficult thing makeba had to face in life was the loss of her daugther.Bongi passed away in 1985 aged 35 after miscarriage.makeba regarded bongis life as the biggest cost of their exile and neva forgave her self for removing Bongi from SA when she was nine.

Makeba remained close to Bongi's children-son nelson lumambe lee and daughter Zenzi Monique Lee until her death.

In december 1990 makeba returned home at the request of nelson manndela to set example for others also in exile and did her first home concert april 1991 and devoted the remainin part of her life to campagning for the continent.


In 2005 she announced her retirement and started a farewell tour for her fans around the world.three years later at the time of her death she was still performing.

In their statement after her death,Makeba's grandchildren noted that she had died exactly the way she'd always said she wanted to go."Whilst this great lady was alive she would say"I will sing until the last day of -̶̯͡»̶̥✽̸̨̨̤̥̈̊͡ᵐ̲ʸ̲ life"they wrote.Makeba collapsed and died of heart attack in italy,soon after performing "pata pata"and leaving her audience screaming for more.
