GraduatesGrant: Hello all, i will be brief as possible: i want to have an online medical platform where patient with illness (not emergency) can book to meet available medical doctors virtually (video). which approval do i actually need apart from CAC? because doctors will be onboarded and we don't want quacks but licensed practitioners. How do i get the approval? Please if you understand and know how this can be achieved please share your thoughts.
Thank you in advance. I ‘guess’ you should co own the CAC with another medical doctor. So that the Doctor can be COO and why you are the CEO. The doctor certificate can be use to navigate some registration and medical advice in the future. |

Thou my intention is to apply for any session that would start from JULY/AUGUST.

Is there any scholarship schemes i could apply to or any advice at all. Check the school website for scholarship and u can also write the department in which you are admitted if they have funding that you can benefit from. Go through their website also |

OreoPaschal: Thank you so much for this. I tried sending you a personal message via your email. I would like to confirm some information from you especially for Lincoln University, did you apply for any funding? Secondly, the dedicated agents; they shared one with me but he has not been responsive since 14th of July. How long did the whole process take for you? And the total amount too. I was a bit confused with the $60k, is it inclusive of the living expenses. How much is the annual tuition for PhD at Lincoln?
Apologies for the long questions. I look forward to your feedback. The tuition fee for PhD at Lincoln is 8,550+ plus insurance and student fee is around 10,300+. You can also explore the website of the school. The website is rich in information |

CalabarSamurai: I was advised to defer. That my bank statement should be six months to strengthen my finances with the living cost + ticket money inside. So I am waiting to submit my application. They also worked on my SoP with me. All through the session my mouth was open in shock and surprise. Like I said the IDP guys are good, but since NZ is not popular they would be slip ups but that's why the schools always partner them with their LIA's (well the school that I am applying to does that). Information is power. That’s why we need professional in a particular field to have access to the information |
Travel › Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by Peaceful123(m): 1:52pm On Aug 02, 2025 |
CalabarSamurai: Sorry for choking mouth, but the LIA I worked with recommends that the primary applicant finish with their studies before bringing their families with a psw visa that they would apply for, but if its a PhD level study, because of the length of the PhD it is reasonable for one to want to be with their family. If it is PhD, can she apply with her spouse and kids at the same time? |

Travel › Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by Peaceful123(m): 11:04pm On Aug 01, 2025 |
CalabarSamurai: Honestly speaking if i knew from the beginning, i would have started with a PAID LICENSED immigration adviser, because this thing is pay to play - they would look at your profile and tell you straight-up the real deal, but that's after paying the initial fees. But IDP is still good though I.M.H.O. I ended working with the school's LIA because of our low approval rate in Naija. Wow. Did you receive positive visa outcome after u used the licensed immigration adviser |

AussieJoan: Its best you use a paid licensed lawyer in New Zealand. Someone I know had 3 visa refusals from Australia and 1 from NZ (when they did a self application). They got it on the 5th trial using an immigration lawyer. Also, apply for yourself first and after getting the visa, you can then apply for your family. Is it the cost of visa fee for family that make you suggest she should apply for herself first before her family ? Or is there any other reason for that? |

Winnyluv: Do you suggest I apply alone first before bringing my dependents? (We applied as a family for Canada and was denied) You can apply together. I can’t talk from the place of experience (Still sourcing for supervisor and admission), I can only talk from the perspective of what I learned here. You can follow this process below CalabarSamurai: 1. Please don't hide the Canadian visa refusal when filling the online form, just state it and state why you were refused as mentioned in the letter. Also mention all visa refusals and the reasons given.
2. If December is your start date, then you should submit an application in September, to give them enough time to work on your APPLICATION.
3. Your Proof of Funds must be six months in one bank account i.e. March to September or minimum of 3 months i.e. June to September, September being when you should submit your application.
4. Leave your family in Nigeria. - home tie
5. Get a study leave letter and/or a letter of introduction from your place of work - home tie
6. Go through this section, there are successful phd students, follow their list of documents they submitted etc.
7. Your Cover letter/ SoP will make or mar you, demonstrate your knowledge of your proposed PhD, your financial plans, travel history, current work and work experience and how the PhD will help you IN NIGERIA.
8. Ask your school if they have agents or their own paid licensed adviser especially since Nigeria's approval rate is 30%, it would really help, if they don't, then work with IDP (free but they only focus on the primary applicant) or get a Paid Licensed Adviser based in New Zealand.
ALL THE BEST !!!! |

FrostyButter: This publication requirement, must it be in the domain of where you want to pursue studies.
Like you want to pursue a phd in construction (masters in construction) but a publication in AI application in another industry...does this typically work? Having a publication in your area of expertise is a plus but having a publication in general count. Besides, some candidates don’t have publication and they still got admission. |

pongwa: it's right there 'no details, just that I didn't meet the requirements' I had 4.35/5 gpa MSc 3.82/5 bsc GPA A publication You should have asked in details. Maybe it is something you could explain or provide clarification for. Your grade look good. Except if you don’t have adequate research component in it. Better still, you can ask for details. |

pongwa: for the first trial, I guess it was because my msc transcript wasn't ready as I was in grad school then. The decision o the second one actually came faster even though I don't believe that I was not qualified for a PhD. They said I didn't meet the requirements, no reason whatsoever. My supervisor was very patient with me through the whole process. I just decided to apply for a masters and got in. My challenge is there was no funding Why did they say you are not qualified? So sad though. PhD will have made the whole thing easier |

But I'm afraid I had to defer since their tuition was crazy, no scholarship and I had to pay and get my visa by 21 July since semester two starts here. I am hopeful What was the reason for your PhD application denial? Did you contact your supervisor after the decision? |

CalabarSamurai: When I say it is government policy, it means that it would require government level talks to change it, in what capacity will you be appearing before the New Zealand government? For this government policy which is not a school policy, you can only lobby the Nigerian government to speak to their counterparts in New Zealand to change it. The guy that did what he did in US and Canada, succeeded only because it was a school policy and not government policy for International Students in those countries. You get? Okay. I get your perspective now and your point is understood. |
Travel › Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by Peaceful123(m): 12:10pm On Jun 15, 2025 |
CalabarSamurai: The difference here is that it is government policy, if Nigerian students want a change, it has to be at the level of government bilateral talks. Do you know Kenya is exempt as well as South Africa? Everything should not be left in the hands of the government. We as citizens can play our part. There is no harm in trying. |
Travel › Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by Peaceful123(m): 8:49am On Jun 15, 2025 |
CalabarSamurai: Nigeria is not on the exclusion list. Nigerian applicants must write an English language test. Even if Nigeria is not on the exclusion list, we should learn to write the schools and institutions that Nigeria is an English speaking country and should be exempted. We should stop accepting rules that we know is not applicable to us. There is a guy on Twitter that write almost all the uni in Canada and USA to explain why Nigeria is an English speaking country and majority of the universities exempted Nigeria. |

ifyjobs: I applied for PhD at Auckland University and was not accepted. their reason was that I did not meet the eligibility requirement, I'm guessing it's because my msc GPA is low (3.11) however, I'm trying to apply to other schools. As a nigerian, we're choosing that English is not our first language right? Also, Is it mandatory to use an IELTS score that is recent? I wrote one in 2022(which is now expired) and it was for general not academic. would that suffice? English is Nigeria official language and first language Did you secure a supervisor before applying for the admission ? If yes, why not talk to your supervisor about the rejection |
