“This is absolutely senseless, our people should realise that this is a destructive exercise that is causing economic hardship to us. It does not do the region any good. Inasmuch as the state government had pleaded that people should ignore the sit-at-home, they have refused to listen.”

Politics / Sit-At-Home: Travellers Trapped In South-East - Roads, Motor Parks Deserted by Peacemaker5128: 8:25am On Jan 10
Travellers across the South-East states who were returning to their various destinations after the Yuletide celebration were on Monday stranded and unable to make return journeys as the roads and motor parks were deserted because of the Monday sit-at-home order declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra.

Most of them who had wanted to embark on their return journey had to sit back, thereby postponing their travels to Tuesday as economic and commercial activities did not hold.

Our correspondent who visited the major cities of Onitsha, Nnewi, Ekwulobia and some parts of Awka, in Anambra State, observed that markets, motor parks, petrol stations, banks and offices remained shut. Schools did not also open for academic activities.

The Second Niger Bridge which had witnessed an appreciable increase in vehicular movements on a daily basis, since the opening of the lane for Westbound traffic, was also quiet as motorists avoided the place.

The ever-bubbling Onitsha motor parks and environs remained quiet and devoid of activities which the area is noted for.

A traveller, identified as Chioma Daniel, who came to Onitsha park, hoping to get a vehicle to Lagos, expressed surprise that there were no vehicles available at the parks.

Daniel said, “Our people started sitting at home again at the beginning of 2023. I did not know that this sit-at-home is serious like this. I came to the park hoping to get a vehicle going to Lagos as work has resumed, but the parks are under lock and key. I will have to go home and come back tomorrow.

“This is absolutely senseless, our people should realise that this is a destructive exercise that is causing economic hardship to us. It does not do the region any good. Inasmuch as the state government had pleaded that people should ignore the sit-at-home, they have refused to listen
.”

Also reacting on the development, which seemed to worsen on Monday, the National President of a human rights group, Human Dignity Restoration Association, Rev. Jude Achebe, said sit-at-home has become an ill wind that blows nobody any good, which has to be stopped immediately.

Achebe decried the hardship and attack being meted out to innocent indigenes and non-indigenes, lamenting that criminals have capitalised on the situation to maim, assault, and rob.

He called for an election of a President that will listen to the cries of the Igbo and other agitators from other tribes in the coming general election for peaceful co-existence.

The rights advocate stressed the need for synergy between the government security operatives and the people to help beef up security with a view to tackling the sit-at-home.

“Our people are not happy and because we are grieved, that is why we agitate, why must we shoot ourselves by this sit-at-home that causes economic hardship to us,” he said.

Manufacturing? Companies that render services, buying and selling etc. Most of these businesses are companies if you don't know.

Politics / Atiku, Best Candidate For South-east – Arthur Eze Insists by Peacemaker5128: 7:47pm On Jan 07

A foremost businessman, Prince Arthur Eze, has insisted that a northern presidential candidate is the best for the South-East region.

Eze urges Ndi-Igbo to maintain their alliance with the North through support for the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

He said support for a northern candidate by the South-East will help the region form the needed alliance that will help them attain power in the near future.

He stated these during a solidarity visit to the Director General of the Atiku-Okowa campaign organisation, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, in Ogidi, Anambra State, on Saturday.

Eze, had some weeks ago, taken a swipe at the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, when he said he will not support Obi, adding that Obi was not capable of winning the election and that he (Eze) had told him so during a private visit

He insisted that Atiku’s administration will liberate Nigeria and benefit the South East more.

He spoke to journalists after his closed-door meeting with selected stakeholders, including traditional rulers, community leaders, representatives of Ndi-Igbo across Nigeria, various groups and politically sophisticated others.

Eze urged the people of the southeast to continue the strategic relationship by supporting Atiku in the February elections, noting that the long-standing alliance between the North and the South East has always produced many political benefits to the region.

He said, “I have known Atiku Abubakar to be an honest man, liberal, and a pan-Nigerian who aspires best for the nation, and he is committed to the renaissance of Ndi-Igbo.

“He has demonstrated his huge love and concern for us Ndi-Igbo by continuously choosing an Igbo man to be his running mate since 2007 when he picked Senator Ben Ndi Obi; again in 2019 when he picked Peter Obi; and now, Ifeanyi Okowa, an Igbo man from Delta State.

“He was willing to scale back his ambition if the ticket was micro-zoned to the southeast; only Atiku Abubakar agreed to such terms.

“It is apparent that with him as President of Nigeria, power is shifting to the southeast, and he will undoubtedly keep all of his promises.”

“My appeal is for our people to seize the opportunity provided by Atiku Abubakar to renew the age-old alliance between the southeast and the north, which saw Nnamdi Azikiwe become President of Nigeria in the first republic and Alex Ekwueme serves as Vice President, while Edwin Ume-Ezeoke was elected Speaker of the House of Representatives in the second republic.

“We have accomplished far more in this country’s politics through our alliance with the north, and in order to bargain for a Nigerian president of southeast origin, we must maintain that partnership through Atiku.”

Atiku, according to Eze, would deliver on his promise of restructuring the country and ensuring that a southeasterner succeeds him as president. He exhorted Igbo leaders in the diaspora and throughout Nigeria to convey Atiku Abubakar’s Rescue and Recovery agenda to the grassroots and throughout Nigeria, where Ndi-Igbo live and do business.

Okonkwo, on his part, praised the philanthropist for his unwavering support for the Atiku project and his numerous advocacy efforts, which have had an inexplicable impact on the southeast and Ndi-Igbo in particular. Professor Okonkwo reaffirmed the Atiku-Okowa campaign’s commitment to mobilize majority votes for Atiku-Okowa in Anambra State.

Stakeholders and representatives of Ndi-Igbo in the Diaspora present at the meeting expressed their commitment towards Igbo Renaissance and urged southerners to support Atiku-Okowa, noting that with Prince Arthur Eze firmly behind the ticket, they are confident that HE, Atiku Abubakar, will not fail the region.

Politics / Supporting Tinubu Is My Right – Brymo by Peacemaker5128: 4:53pm On Jan 07

A popular singer, Olawale Olofooro, aka Brymo, caused a stir online on Thursday, January 5, 2023, when he stated on Twitter that it would be difficult for an Igbo person to be elected as the president of the country, because of the secessionist agitation by some prominent people in Igboland.

Maintaining his stance in an interview with Saturday Beats, the singer said, “I did not mean an Igbo person is unfit for the presidency. That sounds ‘tribalistic.

“I am not supporting Bola Tinubu (presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress) just because I am a Yoruba man from Lagos. My choice cannot be bought. It (my support) is voluntary, and I want my vote to count, like every other Nigerian.”

The ‘Ara’ singer however expressed disappointment that some people were encouraging fans to boycott his songs and brand. He said, “I am an international brand, and it is disappointing if we lose ourselves to other people opinions. My fans know that I am independent. My loyalty to my brand remains despite my choice of leader for the country.”

Brymo also disagreed with the insinuation that he has not been performing at big concerts in recent times despite claiming to be one of the biggest artistes in the country. He said, “My show— “Order: The Concert’,” was the biggest concert in 2022 in Lagos, and we can only be better. Self-acclamations have never been my thing.

“I love to create my own art and shows. Every other show done in 2022 was based on personal relationships and the effect of changing my management. Some shows were also cancelled due to poor production. However, life has a way of balancing things. I believe that 2023 will be even better.”
