Episode 13
The following Sunday I got to church, they already started the opening prayer and surprisingly Ava was not around yet.
"Where is she?"
She's always early to church.
I go out and bring out my phone and as I am about to call her I notice a car driving in and I see Ava in the car with yeah you guessed right... David.
I watch her get down and she looks up and sees me she's about to wave but I just storm back in the church.
She enters few minutes later and sits beside me.
"Hi Kevin"
No reply.
"Hey" She waves her hand in my face and I just keep a blank expression.
"What's wrong with you? Why are you ignoring me?" She says a little bit irritated.
I didn't reply because I am boiling inside and if I say anything I will hurt her.
She stomps her feet angrily and we didn't say anything throughout the service.

After service I see the guy with her and she's laughing seriously.
I've had enough of this!
Without thinking I move close to them.
"Ava let's go"
"Oh..hi Bro Kevin..."
"Yeah, hi" I wave him off.
"Let's go Ava" I say with a slight annoyance in my voice.
She notices it and doesn't want to make trouble so she decides to go with me.
She takes a deep breath, I know she's annoyed.
"Alright David, bye". She waves and follow me into my car.

"What's your problem?" Ava asks in annoyance as soon as I start driving.
"What's my problem? What is my problem? Are you seriously asking me that? You are the one getting all cozy with the choir boy"
"Excuse me, his name is David".
"Oops sorry.. Davis..."
"Davi... What's wrong with you? Huh, tell me... Why are you behaving this way?" She asks angrily.
I stop the car.
"What's wrong with me? The problem I have is that you are getting too close with that choir boy" I say with irritation.
"His name is David and what's your business with whoever I talk too? Huh? I can be friends with whoever I want"
She is raising her voice now and my own pitch is getting louder.
"So you think the choir boy wants to be your friend?, with the way he keeps smiling at you in a creepy way. What do you like about him anyway, he's not even good looking and he does not even have a good voice. His voice is like that of a wolf" I shout at her.
"What's wrong with you? Are you jealous? Because frankly...." She shouts.
"Yes I am jealous" I shout back without thinking.
And everywhere becomes quiet..

The following day at school I see Ava sitting on one of the benches so consumed by what she is doing on her phone.
"Boo" I say behind her.
"Ahhhhhhhhh" she screams and her phone drops from her hands
I start laughing and she hits my arms.
"You scared me".
I shrug.
"What's up?"
"Nothing much..." she says as she picks her phone up and goes back to chatting.
Few seconds later she starts giggling and that got me curious so I ask
"Who are you chatting with?"
"David.. He is so funny"
"David.. The choir boy?"
"Yes"
A muscle twitch in my jaw and I start feeling something heavy in my chest.
"OK..bye" I get up
"Hey.. What's wrong?" Ava asks
"Nothing" I snap at her unintentionally "Uhm.. OK..see you tomorrow"
"Whatever" I say as I leave her.
I know I shouldn't be like that to her but I'm getting annoyed with her closeness to that David guy.
Just who does he think he is to take my Ava away from me?

Sprawled on my bed is Ashley dressed in a very short gown.
When I say short I mean short.
"Kevin.. Long time no see"
"What are you doing? Why are you in my room?"
"Why are you like this? You stopped picking my calls, you avoid me in school so I decided to come here, to check up on you"
"I purposely did all that, you should get the message by now, WE ARE THROUGH"
"Come on I know you don't mean that. You can't possibly replace me with that excuse of a girl, Ava......"
"Don't you dare spit out rubbish about her..." I say angrily
"What is wrong you?" She asks
"I believe that's a question you should ask yourself Ashley. You know what? I don't have time for too much talk. Get out" I point towards the door angrily.
"Wh....what?"
"OUT"
I push her out when she made no move to go out.
"I don't ever want to see you in my house again... Understood??"
She just stands outside gaping at me like a fish.
I slam the door of her face.
What a dramatic day.

"Yes, imagine. I eventually pushed her out"

"I had to, she's so desperate".
We just finished Bible Study in church and we are discussing outside the church.
" Thank God you didn't fall into the temptation tho"
"Yeah... You know whenever I see her I get reminded of Delilah"a
"Delilah? In the Bible?"
"Yes"
"Have you seen Delilah before?"
"Well... My imagination runs wild"
She laughs........
"Let's go" I say
"No, you go..I'm getting a ride from someone. I promised I will get a ride from him".
"Who?"
"David"
"Who is David?"
"The guy who led the praises today"

"Yes"
"I didn't know you are friends" I ask, a little bit irritated.
"We just started talking recently"
"And you are already getting rides from him... That's fast"
"What's fast about that?" She glances up and her face lights up.
"He's here"
"Hi, good evening Bro Kevin. Hi Ava". He says with a smile directed to Ava.
'He's not even good looking" I think in my mind.
"Good evening Bro Davis" I respond to his greeting with mock of course.
"His name is David" Ava says.
"David, Davis what's the difference?"
She scowls at me.
"Oh.. Whatever". I say
Ava scowls more and I just shrug.
"Let's go David... Good night Kevin "
I watch them leave, he is too close to her for my liking.
He looks slimy.
I don't think I will ever be friends with this Dave guy.
He looks like trouble.

Episode 10
Two weeks later, the professor gave us an extra week actually.
We did our presentation for our project
Ours was awesome..to me though.
I got caught up in church activities.
My parents noticed this but they didn't say anything.
They are not against God anyway..that's what they said.
Ava got me a Bible and taught me how to pray.
We became really close.

"Hey man"
Michael one of my friends greets me.
"Hey Michael, what's up?"
"I'm good. Been a while bro"
"Yeah just been busy lately"
"I know with your project but thank God you are done. There's this party tonight... It's gonna be lit bro... You can't miss it"
"Busy tonight".
" What?!!! You... Kevin....busy? For a party? Come on, I know you are joking"
"Michael, I'm busy tonight". I see Ava.
Michael notices me looking at her direction.
"What's up with you and Ava, last I checked you hated her existence and now you are always walking together... So..care to tell me what's happening?"
"We are just friends" I reply impatiently.
"That's the part I don't understand... How can you be friends with..."
"Sorry man I gotta go" I interrupt him
I run off to meet her.
"Hi"
She looks up and smile at me.
I smile back.
"Kevin"
"You are going home already?"
"Yeah but I gotta get to the mall first"
"I can drop you off"
"No, it's okay."
"Oh.." I am little bit disappointed
"You sure?"
"Yeah. Bye"
I watch her leave, feeling sad a bit that I don't get to spend the rest of the day with her, don't ask me why.
I stay behind to study in the library, I read for two hours and go straight home.
"Welcome sir" our Butler welcomes me.
"Thank you."
"You have a visitor"
"Really?"
"Yes, waiting up in your room"
"Okay... Thanks". I head up to my room wondering who my visitor is, it's probably one of my friends tho.
I open the door and what I see makes my eyes almost pop out of their sockets, almost.

Episode 9
I get up from my bed and get ready for school.
I need to see Ava.
I need help.
If I don't, I will lose my mind.
I didn't even wait for alarm to ring.
I dress up and go downstairs.
"You woke up early this morning" my mum says with a smile.
"Yes" I head for the door.
"Kevin, no breakfast this morning?"
"No Dad. I'm not hungry"
"What's up with you? Tell me, I can help".
I look at him for few seconds and shake my head.
"No you can't. Bye Dad"
"Kevin..."
My answer is the slam of the door.
I call my driver and we drive straight to school.
I see one of my friends Michael, he waves at me but I didn't answer him.
He's always early to school.
I run off to one of the classes Ava and I get lectures together
Of course she's not around.
I got to school early.
I bring out my phone and turn on my data connection hoping she's online.
She is.
"I NEED YOUR HELP" I text her
"Are you okay?" She replies a minute later.
"No I'm not okay"
"I should be in school in about 20 minutes"
"Okay, I'll be waiting for you".
" See you soon".
I wait for her anxiously.
About 20 minutes later I receive a call from her.
"Where are you?"
"I'm at the bench under the shade beside the school car park".
"Okay I will meet you soon"
She hangs up.
She arrives 5 minutes later and we sit.
"Kevin are you okay?"
"Ava I think I've lost my glory". I said immediately.
"What?"
I bite my finger as I remember those times with Ashley.
I didn't realize I was crying already.
"Kevin you are scaring me. What do you mean by you've lost your glory?"
"Didn't you hear the Pastor last night? He said once you fornicate you are in a covenant with the person and just like Samson he lost his power, he lost his glory and I've done such a thing before, many times even, my life is a mess.. I'm in trouble... Ava I've done many things, things that I regret, I've destroyed many girls' lives, I thought I was enjoying myself.. I took advantage of my parent's money, my looks, my intelligence.. I thought I am going down the right path.. I did not know I'm just an empty barrel... I....I.....I..." I start sobbing uncontrollably.
"Kevin look at me" Ava says
I look up and also see tears in her eyes.
"For all have sinned and cut short the glory of God. Everyone has a past but we have a better future in Christ." Ava says
"You think I have a better future? With all the life I've lived, I have a future?"
"Yes you do Kevin...you do, all you need to do is to surrender your life to Jesus and He will take care of the rest."
"How do I go about that?"
"Confess, renounce and repent from your sins, then believe and accept Jesus as your Lord"
"That's all?"
"Yes"
I did just that in between tears, Ava held my hands all through.
After what feels like forever I stop praying and I feel a peace in my heart.
Ava gave me her handkerchief to wipe my nose.
I blow my nose real hard and I look at Ava and we both start laughing.
I reach out and wipe her face.
"Why were you crying?" I ask
"I'm just happy. I'm really happy right now."
"Me too".
"We still need to work on our project you know" I say with a smile.
"We are just left with the PowerPoint design and a little rehearsal".
" Yeah" I say.
"I guess class is over" Ava says.
"Sorry I didn't make you go".
"It's okay... This is better than any class. This is the best day of my life."
"Mine too".
"I guess I will see in church on Sunday." Ava smiles.
"Sure. Let's go, I will drop you off".
"Okay"
We head to the parking lot holding hands.

"Sorry Ashely, Ava needs this."
I enter my car and drive.
I can't believe I turned down Ashley for Ava but I just have this strange feeling to do this for her
I checked the address of the tract she gave me and eventually I got there.
The programme started already.
I go inside and see one of the ushers.
"Welcome to church" she says with a smile.
"Yeah...thanks?"
"I'm looking for uhm... Ava" I say, hopefully she knows who she is
"She's at the front row by the right"
"Can you give this to her?" I say bringing out the Bible from my bag but the usher left already.
Guess I have to go inside.
I enter and search for her and see her.
I sit beside her.
"You left your Bible"
"Kevin" she sounds surprised.
"Your Bible. Bye"
She holds me down.
"Please wait for a while...."
"Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee......"
I groan.
"Thank you"
I bring out my phone and start typing.
She gives me a look.
"I have to tell my parents I will be home late" I say rolling my eyes.
She smiles and I smile back.
Few minutes later..
I am in awe.
I see people of my age on the pulpit...
Singing, praying, bringing out points from the word of God.
And it made me feel useless.
About 30 minutes later, the Pastor mounts the podium.
His topic: Samson.
Text: Judges 16:4-31
Ava had to open it for me.
I have no clue where that is.
Ava was laughing.
"Shut up" I mumble.

Driving home after dropping Ava off.
My mind keeps going back to what the Pastor said about Samson, how he lost his glory on the laps of a woman.
I sigh heavily.
I get home.
I meet my parents at home.
I greet them and head straight to the room.
"Are you not going to eat?" My mum asks
"No" I tell her.
I get to my room and fall on my bed.
My mind go back to church and each time it does I keep remembering those times with Ashley and the other girls before her.
I didn't get a wink of sleep that night.

After school I go to the library.
I got there 2:30pm.
Surprised??
I finished my classes early actually, although that's not really the reason, I just don't want to disappoint her for some reason I don't know.
I am going through what I did last night for the project when a voice jolts me out of my reading.
"OH MY GOD" Ava says with a hand on her mouth.
"You got here before me"
I roll my eyes.
"Stop being so overdramatic and sit down" I say.
"You are no fun" she says with a smile.
She brings out her things including her Bible.
"Do you take that everywhere?"
"What?"
"That thing..."
She seems lost
"Bible"
"Oh..Yeah" she says.
I sigh.
We begin our work, after comparing what we both got, it actually made sense.
"All we need now is to design the PowerPoint presentation" I say
"Yeah" she says with a frown
"I'll do it" I say
"You will? Wow"
"Stop being....."
"Overdramatic" she finishes my words for me with a smirk.
I smile a bit.
"Omigosh, did you just smile?"
"No I didn't"
"Yes you did"
"No"
"Yes"

"You tricked me"
She laughs and points her tongue at me.
And we both laughed.......
At that moment I am happy, happier than usual.

She hurriedly starts packing her books
"Oh..okay" I say, a little bit disappointed
"Oh, here"
"What's this?"
"It's a tract"
"I don't need..."
"Take it okay? Throw it away if you want to... It has the address of my church at the back in case you change your mind. Bye Kevin".
She runs off.
As I was packing my things I see a book, a black book.
She forgot her Bible.
I pick it up along with my bag and run outside.
I got to the parking lot and see no one.
Wow, she runs fast
"Hi babe"
I hear from behind me.
"Ashley...." I say
"Mr. Invisible, it's been a while"
"Yeah been busy"
"With Ava?" She says with disgust.
"Yes with Ava but not what you think".
"You seem stressed... I have a way to relieve you of your stress" She says seductively.
"Let's go to your house". She says.

Episode 6
I got home from school that day feeling really down..
She is so confusing.
I placed the snacks she gave me on the table in my room
Occasionally my eyes wandered to it before I slept off.
I didn't go to school the rest of the week.

I go to school the following week, as I am chatting with my friends someone tap me.
Yeah you guessed right.
It's her.
"Hey Kevin"
"Hi"
"Can I have your number?"
"What?"
"I didn't see you the rest of last week and it's already been two weeks since we were given the project and we've not really done anything. So if I have your number we will be able to talk and....."
"Give me your phone"
"What?"
"Your phone".
She gives me her phone and I type my number in and give it back to her.
"Thanks, bye Kevin." Ava says as she goes off and I watch her leave.

I see a text message on my WhatsApp from a strange number.
"Who is this?"
"Ava"
"Oh..okay"
"How was school today?"
"It was fine"
"You busy tomorrow?"
"No, why?"
"I wanna invite you for a program"
"What program?"
"A youth programme in my church"
"Not interested"
"Come on, it will be fun"
"What's fun about church?"
"Everything"
"Whatever.... Not interested"
I switch off my data connection.
Few seconds later I get a call.
"This number looks familiar".
I pick up.
" Hello"
"Ava?"
"Yeah it's me" she says happily
"What do you want?"
"Can we meet...."
"I don't wanna go for your programme"
"You didn't let me finish, can we meet up at library tomorrow after school for the project?"
"Oh...sure"
"3pm..OK?"
"Sure"
"Please don't be late, I have to be in church by 5pm".
" Whatever...bye" I click the red button.
Rude. I know.
I get up from bed and head to the dining.
I eat my food and then go back to my room.
I start working more on the project.
We just have just 2 weeks left.
I read a bit.
And I go to bed.

I get to the library 6pm.
Yes, I got there an hour late.
Ava was busy reading when I got there.
As I moved closer I discovered she was reading the Bible.
This is why I hate this girl, I mean there are so many books to read in the library, she chose to read the Bible.
"What the h*** are you reading?"
"Oh, you are here.. I'm just reading up some chapters in the Bible."
I just keep staring at her.
"You are an hour late"
"So?" I say with a smirk daring her.
"Why are you late?"
"I was busy with Ash"
Something flashed in her eyes, her eyes got suddenly filled up or maybe it's just my imagination.
"Oh" she replies.
"Oh?"
"Huh?"
"Oh..that's all you have to say?"
"Uh..yes?"
"Are you pretending or just plain stupid?" I ask angrily.
"What?"
"You heard me. You are not deaf or maybe you are"
"Why are you angry? I believe I should be the one angry."
Wait, that's right, why am I angry?
I know why.
I expected her to be angry but she isn't and now I feel like a jerk.
I stand up and leave.
I call my driver to come pick me up on my way out.
I am at the parking lot when I hear my name.
"Kevin"
I look back and see Ava.
"Here" she points a can of Pepsi and chips at me.
"What?"
"I bought this for you."
"Why?"
"I figured we might be late in school working on the project so I got this earlier in case you got hungry"
I stand there speechless.
When I didn't do anything she placed the items in my hands.
"I guess we'll work on it tomorrow then. Good night Kevin". She waves and smiles at me.
I just watch her leave unable to say anything.
"Just who are you Ava?"

Episode 4
Ashley came over.
She picked up as soon as I called her.
Well you know the rest of the story.
After all was done and Ashley I decided to start on the project.
At least I tried, I searched for it online but I was too exhausted to even read anything.
I shut down my laptop and slept.

"Urgh. That damn thing..."
I stand up and prepare for school.
30 minutes later, I'm down.
I go down and see my parents already eating breakfast.
"Morning son" my Dad say.
"Morning Dad, morning mum" I lean down to kiss her on the cheek.
I sit down to eat.
We discuss the normal family talk, school, business and all.
10 minutes later, I'm at school.
My friends are there before me as usual.
I feel a tap on my back.
I turn to see her.
I groan internally.
With a smile on her face she greets me.
"Sorry we could not meet up yesterday but as soon as I got home from church I searched out the topic and I've written out some points.. So what about you, did you get anything online?"
I got caught off guard.
"Huh?" I ask like a fool.
"Project, ring a bell?" She says with a mischievous smile.
"Of course, I worked on it.. I got so many points". I lie to save myself from embarrassment.
"Okay then, let's wait after school to compare our points, we meet in the library 5pm".
"Sure".
" Bye".
As soon as she left I run off to the library, my friends call me but I don't wait, guess I'm missing today's first class.

Episode 3
He went on and on with the names and I am glaring at him.
If looks could kill, he will be 6 ft. under right now.
How in heavens does he expect me to work with her?
"Damn you to h*** professor" I think..killing him in my mind over and over again.
"I expect your projects to be ready at the end of this month, it's 70% of your result. Good bye class"
I am still staring intently at the front when I feel a tap on my shoulders.
I look towards the side and see her smiling but stops as soon as she saw my face.
"W...wh...when do you want to start to work on the project?"
I look at her and she squirms in her seat.
Good, she's scared but she manages to speak.
"When do you want to start?"
No matter how much I hate her I need to pass this course so I have to push aside the hate and the sooner we start the better.
"This evening" I say.
"I will be busy this evening."
"With what?"
"I'm going to church, we have a service this evening and I don't want to miss it." She finishes with a big smile on her face.
I mutter a string of curse words.
Ugh, church girls.
"Alright then, I'm gonna start working on mine, you can do whatever the h*** you want".
"But...."
I stand up and leave.
"Wait"
I exit the class.
Some minutes later, I'm on my bed at home..
"Today is the worst day, ever"
I pick up my phone and call Ashley.

Ava
The most annoying girl ever lived.
I never talked to her before but seeing her face pisses me off.
She is what you will call a church girl.
She's a good girl.
I hate good girls.
She is a girl that has a ready-made smile on her face.
Even that smile makes me angry.
She passes by us and greets us with her 1000 watt smile directed especially at me.
'What the .....?'
I glare at her and I think I see some sort of disappointment in her eyes or maybe not.
She smiles and leaves.
'Seriously, dude, can't you be more polite??' One of my friends said.
I shrug.
Seconds later I feel a hand moving on my chest, I look down and I see Ashley my present girlfriend.
"Hey, baby" she says with that seductive smile.
"Hi" I reply.
And then the school bell rings.
'See you later, baby' she says as she walks off.
Damn that school bell.
I say good bye to my friends and walk off to class.
I walk into class and scan the whole class.
Unfortunately, the only seat left was beside her, you know who.
With huge sigh, I plunk myself into the seat.
Few minutes later, I feel eyes on me.
I look to my side and she quickly looks elsewhere but I caught her.
'Weird'
After waiting for 15mins, the professor came inside.
"I'm sorry i'm late" he says.
"You always say that" I mutter to myself.
"This semester, we are going to be working on a project, so I will be pairing you up and no, you can't choose your partners by yourself, yes, I will choose them for you"
"You and your partner are going to be working on the topic " Before Independence and I give you a month.
"So I'm going to read out your names now".
'Kate Adekunle and Tayo Michael'
'Ugo Emeka and Umar Musa'
He goes on and on.
'Ava Praise and Kevin Abraham'.
"What the hell?"

The evil monster beside my bed decided to ring when I started to enjoy my sleep.
I place the pillow on my head to block out the sound but no it would not stop.

Eventually I have to give in just like I do, every morning, I sit up and hit it, it stops.
"Damn, I hate alarms"
I'm not an early riser but I have to go to school.
"Why do we need education?" This is the same question I keep asking myself every morning but I get no answer.
I force myself to get down from bed and go to the bathroom.
I take a quick shower and dress up in my typical bad boy way.
I look into the mirror and who I see lights up my world, myself.
I don't know about others but I'm the hottest and the most handsome guy ever.
After dressing up and satisfied with myself, I take a few selfies to post on my Instagram profile just to satisfy my fans especially the girls.
I leave my room and entered the dining, I can smell the delicious meal already.
I greet our cook and ask for my parents.
"They've gone to work" he replies
"This early?"
"Yes"
"When will they ever give themselves some rest?" I ask quietly to myself.
I proceed to the dining and sit down to eat my food, it tastes delicious.
At around 8am I am already at school and I'm presently chatting with my buddies.
The day is looking up already until I see her.
The most annoying girl on earth.

Episode 7
We entered his car and drove off.
We passed the city and followed a lonely road.
"Where are we going?"
"You want to be famous, right? You wanna be rich, don't you?"
"Yes?"
"That's where we are going to".
I said nothing but I was scared.
After about an hour, he drove into a parking lot and before me was a giant building.
It was beautiful and all but it had this creepy feeling to it.
"Follow me"
We entered, I saw people more like guards, all dresses in a creepy black outfit.
They didn't say anything just kept looking like robots.
"Come in, he has been expecting you", a guy told us as we got in front of a room.
He opened the door for us and we entered.
Inside was a man who looks absolutely normal but has this scary outlook.
"Welcome" the man said.
"I'm Sam" he said.
"That's our priest" Robert, who took me there said.
"He will be the one to help you"
"King, right? Sam asked.
"Yeah" I replied.
"A talented young guy, handsome and determined, just the man I love."
"I heard you wanna be rich and famous, and you are ready to give it all it takes?"
"Y....yes..."
"Speak up!" He shouted
"Yes"
"Good"
"Follow me".
"Take off your shoes" he told me
He took me to very big room, dark and creepy.
I was hearing strange sounds or maybe it was my imagination.
In the front was an image, an idol.
Sam, now Priest to me stood in front, bowed down and made some chants.
I was already shivering where I was.
I looked at Robert and he shook his head.
'I'm in trouble'
Few minutes later, Sam held a small cup with a knife and sliced my finger without warning.
Few drops of blood dropped into the cup.
He gave a me a document that I had to seal with my blood.
"Congratulations, you just sold out your soul".
My mind blanked for a minute.
"My...my...my...s....ou..t?"
"When? how?"
Sam laughed.
"I got your blood"
"Without my permission"
He laughed again.
"I got your permission the moment you stepped in here. No one forced you here, it's all your doing."
I said no more.
He is right, I brought this on myself.
"Your soul is no longer yours but you will be rich so wealthy to a fault, so famous, your name will be all over. You will be the King you want"
And that's it.
The end of my life.
I dropped a single two weeks later, I got so popular, I practically sang nonsense.
My life was and is still controlled.
My thoughts.
My movements.
My words.
My songs.
I am no longer my own.
I got the money.
I got the fans.
I got popularity.
I lost my soul.
I sold it out.

Episode 6
I got popular.
I got the money.
I got the girls.
I released two albums already.
But it was not enough.
Some people were still more than me.
The household names.
Those with money and can buy your money out.
I really wanted to be like them.
And as the devil will have it, I got to meet one of them.
It was at a show.
A fellow artist's show.
I met him at the backstage.
He was literally my idol.
I had to introduce myself because he did not know me, can you imagine?
We got talking.
Far into our discussion, I told him I wanted to be as famous as him.
"You don't wanna go there" he said
"Why?"
"Bruv, you don't wanna go there" he stood up and left.
Those words bothered me, I should have thought deeper about it.
I was famous but I was too greedy.
I wanted it all, and quickly.
Unfortunately for me, I met with his manager.
I told him what I wanted.
He looked at me and said "Are you sure you can give it whatever it takes??"
"Yes, sure".
"I can sense your determination. You want you want by all means, the kind of people I like".
"Alright then, meet me tomorrow, 9pm sharp, same venue".
"Alright".
The following day I went and got there at the stipulated time.
"Let's go"
