Why is it that in Nigeria we don't build house for rent in this way like we see in Europe?

The apartments are usually painted with white colour or sometimes any bright color. Most of them dont have corridors like the way we build in Nigeria. You will see the streets how they are well designed in a neat way, the streets may be paved with tar or interlocks and it will look so neatly done; the kerbs, lawns in a straight line.

Frankly one of the things i enjoy when i watch foreign movies (Hollywood) are the beautiful sights of well laid out apartments. The apartments are usually several storeys high and they often stretch from a long distance.

Developers, Engineers and Town Planners please this thread need your inputs and answers
So i have been having this thoughts in my mind as to why we build rental houses the way we do in Nigeria. You will see 1 plot of land housing 2 storey building with 6 flats filled with tenants and painted with yellow color and behind that house is another 1 plot of land with fence, housing a 3 storey building painted in grey color and facing a different angle. The same unorganized pattern repeats on and on.

Why are living Apartments in other countries very different from the way we build our apartment in Nigeria?

The protest will be happening tomorrow in some cities and areas. Lagos especially and Abuja. In the EAST there will not be much of a protest(before they will say its Ndigbo that want that are planning to overturn the government). Depending on where you base, stay glued to the news and try to know places to avoid. Security is overstretched because they have focused all attention on the protest venues. So just be careful of your movements.

It could be either turn out to be a blessing or a curse. It all depends on how you plan yourself and the money you make from the work. I know how frustrating it can be when you run out of cash barely 2 weeks after collecting your salary but one of the things i notice that consumes a lot is FEEDING. If you are someone that likes to cook and cook all the time. Trust me, your money may not last a few days after payment and that will make you to start borrowing around, getting foodstuff on credit and when you are paid, it goes back again into settling debts mostly. So you have to minimize your spendings, mind the stuffs you cook. Look for alternatives and in some days, you can buy food from mamaput. It's all about strategy.

These are just another set of criminals looking for money to squander. It is the the same thing in ALL areas, agencies and sectors of the country.

Just a quick one. Ajah is not located on an Island. Ajah is located on Lekki Peninsula which is NOT completely surrounded by water. An Island such as Lagos Island, Ikoyi, Ilashe, and Victoria Island (Iruland) and completely surrounded by water, hence are called islands.

So, I would have liked it if you called out the the name of the so-called Hypeman who made that irresponsible statement and also the bar name so that people would learn to vet or screen out those crappy and highly inflammatory jokes that offend the human sensibilities in multicultural settings before coming on stage to perform. The areas where posh gated estates exist are built on leased lands owned by the Yoruba indigenes who have Oba's (or traditional kings) ruling all those areas. Many Yoruba folks in Nigeria and in the Diaspora own mansions in those pish areas as well.


I've listened to some of these uninformed comedians mostly from the East of Nigeria and sometimes the South of South states making unguarded or unmeasured jokes about Yoruba folks (who are more than 50 million people in population and are indigenous to 3 to 4 major West African countries of Nigeria, Benin Republic, Togo, and Ghana) that are patently false and insulting to the sensibilities, and after reading your post, I clearly agree that the comments the so-called Hypeman made is highly irresponsible! The fact that he got a negative reaction from the audience at the Ajah bar shows that he himself realized his errors in his attempt to inject humor which ended up sounding insulting.

I was at an international conference at Sheraton Hotel in Maryland over fifteen years ago and the young male comedian who came on stage cracked the usual stereotypical dry joke in a mix of pidgin English and English about Yorubas "who too dey fear" and Ibos "who no dey fear" and he got some murmurs and negative feedback from the crowd. His accent sounded very funny so some guests laughed it off. At the end of the program, I saw the young male comedian (who was then in his twenties) and we both talked. He told me he is from Anambra State and I told him NOT to ever crack that kind of ethnic joke that were condescending because it would put off those who might want to use his services later. He bowed respectfully and apologized for cracking that silly joke. His accent was funny though and he was indeed good with some of his joke deliveries. These ethnic stereotypes must NEVER be allowed at public events or anywhere at all. They started off as false beer parlor stories or gists by some bigoted parents from homes before spreading to schools and the larger societies.


There are CULTURAL differences worldwide and many ethnic groups detest people who are VERY loud and NOT humble, thereby leading to a culture clash.

Even Chinua Achebe wrote in his last infamous book before he passed on about the Ibos and their NOISY EXHIBITIONISM and their LACK of HUMILITY and QUIETNESS as seen in the excerpt from Achebe's book below. One of them here on page one of this thread was irresponsibly saying that it's the normal Ibo behavior but when you make narcissistic or supremacist comments or stereotypical taunts at social or business meetings in a multiethnic setting, you end up offending the sensibilities of others.

Is like this UK situation is tough for babes. There is one babe i am currently chatting up. She is equally based in UK while I'm based and hussling in one African country.
