I know bro, I told someone I wanted to buy a rental property for 10m some small apartments but the rent yearly I will receive was 180,000 to 200,000 per year

Which will mean it will take me 50 years to get back my 10,000,000 naira I put into the house

Not only that the 200,000 naira will not be enough to do anything significant in my life, in the international market that 200,000naira is $121 today not enough to pay my one months rent abroad. Not enough for anything

I have thought of so many investments in Nigeria but all of them are loss making ventures.

Another problem is the devaluation of the naira, if you invest $10,000 in Nigeria let’s assume you get 100,000 naira weekly or monthly from the business assuming that 100,000 naira is $100 today by next tomorrow it will be $98 four days from today it will be $80 3 weeks from today it would be $50

So the money you make in Nigeria just keeps losing value due to no fault of yours.


And we haven’t even touched on people ripping you off if you aren’t present in the country to watch/oversee your business yourself


I think the best approach would be move to Nigeria yourself and invest or find someone you can absolutely trust to carry on the business otherwise don’t invest

Any investment in Nigeria is a guaranteed loss for the person. Regardless of whether the person is in ground or not. Being on ground will not stabilize the naira, will not provide constant electricity, will not provide the required security. What of accidents and robbery? Dont even talk about healthcare. 50% of drugs in Nigeria now are all fakes. Going to the hospital now is far more risky than the sickness the sickness the person wants to treat. Why? Experienced doctors have jakpa. Remaining student doctors and nurses.
I read about a lady that went to check up cos she was having delayed period,,,omo one thing lead to another, they took the lady to theatre, cut one place and blood was gushing. Omo like play like play, the lady died o.

And she was preparing to go to UK for studies.

It reminds me of that one tv show in Nigeria were one of the characters who is a mechanic usually says “I miss abroad” whenever Nigeria happens to him or someone else, he will immediately have flashback of his time abroad and shake his head in pity and say “I miss abroad”. Back to the matter you know what makes what you just typed even more pitiful? Nigeria has only gotten worse in those 15 years oh.

Another thing is people who could have afforded to japa with ease just 2 years ago, will need to struggle to japa today and people who would japa with ease 15 years ago in 2009 when 1 U.S dollar was only 154 Naira will not be able to japa at all today that 1 dollar is 1,641 naira

All the news about Nigeria are Negative even today the Children held in police cell for 90 days and told to bring 10million naira each for bail with 2 sureties of grade level 15 in civil service with employment letter and last promotion letter and a family member. To the black out in the North for weeks abi months because allegedly terr*rists blew the transmission lines and are stopping the Nepa officials from going to fix it, to fuel price hike and even though Dangote has fuel Ipman and govmt are refusing to buy from him , Naira devaluation, police accidentally crushing 35 year old woman to de.ath etc. etc.

All bad news the sad part and the reason for this thread is some times people forget why they left in the first place, they forget what their life’s were on day to day basis they get used to the 24/7 electricity, getting paid salary on time every week or every 2 weeks, they get used to good roads, good security, clean environment, job availability abroad and mistakenly think “well life will be the same in Naija as it is abroad but with family & friends & good weather.

When they start thinking of Nigeria they have nostalgia they only remember “good times” parties, clubbing, family, friends, food, entertainment they forget every other thing I listed earlier, the power failure, insecurity, the police check points and bribery, the fact that it takes years to get a job. The sachet water wrappers, plastic bags and dirt everywhere, people throwing refuse in the drainage and the sides and center of the roads, the traffic, the heat, election violence etc.

Add to the fact that some in Nigeria will say leave that dish washing job, that cleaning old people yansh that pays you 11pounds an hour for 20 or 40 hours a week = £440 (938,000 naira a week) (with all the infrastructure safety and amenities the UK or similar countries have) come and be a manager of a bank for 300,000 a month you will not do anything just sit in the office and people will worship you.

Some Nigerians abroad when they face one or two challenges (weather, lack of social life or man and woman) will start to fall for it.


Will you rather have social life & “good weather” and be able to save between 0 - 50,000naira every month from your 300,000 monthly salary if you even see work that will pay you 300,000 per month or sacrifice that social life small, endure the cold weather and have the opportunity to be able to save one week salary or half of one week salary of £200-£440 (420,000naira to 940,000naira) every month out of your monthly salary for those who work full time.

You are spot on my brother! I wish i can like your comment a hundred times. See, i have been following developments in Nigeria ever since i knew how to read. When i was still in Jss1 many years ago, while going to school, I used to stop at newspaper stands to read the head lines. I make sure that i look up all the major newspapers' story headlines before i continue on my way to school. As young as i was then, i usually leave that stand with sadness because there was NEVER a day you will see ONE good news on the the papers. Never! All through my schooling years till i graduated, i came to ONE realization.


Nigeria will NEVER function or get better. Go and look at the complains since the 70s, 80s and 90s. They are still the EXACT same thing Nigeria is battling till today 3 day of August 2024.
All the things you mentioned have been in the same state since. No single improvement in any area. Mehnn when i finished my university education, i decided already, even before that time, that i will never go for NYSC. Instead i started early to look for a way of survival for myself. The drive and Passion in me to escape that HELLFIRE called a country Nigeria, made me to work hard and find my way outside the borders of Nigeria, though still in Africa. But you know what, this is the beat decision i took for my life.

In this small country that i am there is 247 electricity, there is sanity everywhere i look around. Have never seen anybody fighting in the street. You can move around at any time of the night even sleep on the road side and wake up with your phones and money intact. I have never heard the sound of sirens here. Only emergency ambulances uses sirens. Have never heard any gunshot. My brother you need to see the quality of roads and how they build it carefully and neatly despite not being a rich country. High tension wires are armored cables so there is no news of high tension wire falling on anybody. There is pipe borne water 247 with meters.

It is here i saw a functional water reservoir supplying portable water to houses. In Nigeria it is always on election posters you will see them write "Supply portable water" as their agenda but they never make it work or function. Even the little work i do here pays me better than those cashiers working in a bank in Nigeria. Meanwhile my mates in Nigeria still fo not have work to do after many years of graduation. Mehnnn... Nigeria is a dead country! Only a m*d person will return to that place to live.

You are not well. The Westerners are the ones getting arrested up and down. Read up and see where one of your scratch face brothers is complaining. In South Africa, Yoruba people were still the victims..the whole country saw the names of the deportees and they were mostly Yoruba.

It will be a very costly mistake for anyone to come back to Nigeria from wherever you are. From those that i have come across, they mostly regret it. One of my close relation who came back from just Gabon after spending many years there and persistent callings from family to come back. 15 years later, he is still regretting making that move to come back to Nigeria. It will be a situation of loss and no gain whatsoever.
Before you come back, ask yourself - what are you coming back to? Even from the daily news you get from Nigeria is enough intel to tell you whats up.

My final advice: if you are based anywhere outside Nigeria, Never come back!!! At least not for now. Its a DEAD country and will remain so for a very long time to come.

Who knows why the Google pixel 5a's camera and video output is always dark despite checking the correct settings? I have checked it out on Google as well but yet to get a solution.

I did something like this when my net salary was 200K 10 years ago. I used the savings to buy 32 plots of land for cash crop farming (houses have surrounded the place presently) and 4 plots of land for my proposed house. The properties I bought cheaply then have so much increased in value. I intend to use my savings with the cooperative to plant the Cash crop by April next year. Be careful while investing in business.

Do not just save. Invest the money. At least it will grow to cover some percentage of the inflation we are encountering instead of just leaving it it in the Bank. If you worry about investment risks and access to your funds, you can just do mutual funds with Asset Management firms around (most of which are subsidiaries of the bank you know)

No, i am not in Lagos. Though when i lived in Lagos and worked there, i also struggled and saved up some money. That was in 2022.

I am currently doing all that you said. My net salary is around 300k. At the end of every month i try to save upto 200k. I must say its quite difficult but the trick is that i do the saving FIRST, then use whatever that remains for my expenses.
I intend to save a reasonable amount then i learn a trade and go into business.

In my location there we have electricity supply 24 hours every day. The only thing is that my location is not in Nigeria
