Deputy Speaker, blessing to Osun - Group

The Deputy Speaker, Engr Lasun Yusuf has been described as a blessing to the people of Osun State.
A group operating under the aegis of Lasun Vanguard, thanked members of the House of Representatives for the confidence reposed in Hon Lasun Yussuff by electing him as their Deputy Speaker.

Leader of the group, Comrade Samuel Akinloye said "the election of Rt Hon Lasun Yussuff couldn't have happened at a better time, All hands must be on deck to ensure the continuous progress of Osun State . The Deputy Speaker is committed to a prosperous Osun and has been using his good position to better the lives of the citizenry .
He also used the occasion to pray for the good health of Hon Yussuff and for the Almighty God to continually grant him wisdom and understanding.

The group's Coordinator, Comrade Olayinka Jokotola, described the vanguard an association of serious minded professional within and outside state. Against the background of the of the state of the economy, he pleaded for understanding of the people, assuring that efforts were being made to remedy the situation.

Comrade Jokotola also praised the decision of the Deputy Speaker to explore the use of the social media as another platform for making himself accountable to the people of the country.

Call Aregbesola to order, Olasunkanmi urges Stakeholders.

Former Minister of Youth Development, Senator Akinlabi Olasunkanmi, has urged political, religious and traditional leaders and all well meaning Nigerians to call the Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola to order owing to his insensitivity to the plights of the people of our dear state.

Olasunkanmi, an erstwhile Senator, made this call while reacting to happenings in the state over the past few weeks particularly with the refusal of the governor to clear the backlog of salaries owed the workers despite the already released bailout funds to Osun State Government by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

According to him, "I have never seen this type of cruelty in my life. After mismanaging the state funds through unrealistic economic policies and implementation of bogus projects, Aregbesola opened up mass graves in Osun State with many of our brothers and sisters starving to death as a result of unpaid salaries and wages. He had no reason whatsoever, to play pranks or delay the payment of the salaries any further since he has admitted receipt of the bailout funds from the Federal Government".

While thanking the organized labour for the way they have conducted themselves so far, he enjoined them to continue to toe the path of peace by avoiding throwing the state into confusion, because our state will definitely outlive its current travails.

Meanwhile, he appealed to the people to continue to pray to God to touch the heart of Aregbesola so that he can change his ways and do the right thing by having mercy on the hapless workers.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, has died at the age of 85 in a London hospital.

The monarch was said to have died around 5pm on Tuesday (today).

Relevant officials, who spoke to our correspondent on Tuesday night, however, refused to confirm the monarch’s death, saying they did not want to be quoted on the death of the foremost traditional ruler, who was said to have passed away on Tuesday.

“I have heard but please, I don’t want to be quoted on this. People have been calling but nothing has been made public. You see, another person is calling me from London,” the source said before picking the other call.

Another source, who spoke on condition of anonymity to our correspondent, explained that Oba Sijuwade was flown out of the country from Ibadan about five days ago in an unconscious state.

“Kabiyesi was flown out of the country about five days ago in an air ambulance. He was unconscious; his situation was critical.

“As a matter of fact, some people have been weeping in the palace since the weekend because of his situation when he was flown out from Ibadan in that air ambulance,” he said.

Oba Sijuwade became the fiftieth traditional ruler or Ife in 1980.

Just last week, the Ooni resolved the industrial dispute between the management of the Obafemi Awolowo University and some staff of the institution, who had embarked on an indefinite strike.

A Nigerian student, Oluwatobi Olasunkanmi has won the William Charnley Prize for the best First Class in Law at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.

The 24 year old Oluwatobi who is the son of the former Minister of Youth Development, Senator Akinlabi Olasunkanmi, happened to be the only student of black descent in the graduating set.

In an official correspondence dated June 26, 2015, addressed to the best First Class Law student, the University's Senior Tutor, Dr Philip Johnson, congratulated the Nigerian lad for the feat.

“Many congratulations on obtaining the best Hughes Hall First Class in your BA in Law. In recognition, the College has awarded you with the William Charnley Prize” said Johnson.

Meanwhile, the father of the award winner, Senator Olasunkanmi, has expressed his joy at the achievement attained by his son, noting that it has not only brought honour to his family but to Nigeria as a whole. “Sincerely speaking, my joy is not only because he is my son but because he has represented Nigeria well by bringing a laurel which has manifested in the best First Class Prize in Law”.
