Hi everyone, I got to Germany on a student visa earlier this year and my fiancee applied for a family reunion appointment date in March (since it takes time, we were hoping we would have gotten married before she got called). Unfortunately, I can not go to Nigeria until March next year for the wedding. We are hoping she is not called for the interview before then. Is there anything we can do? Should she apply for another date?

Thank you
I don't think there's anything to be worried about yet. The rate of appointments isn't that fast so you should have completed all the marriage rites by the time you do get an appointment.

Latest application date to receive appointment is 18th January, 2024 as released by the embassy last friday
Thanks. Is this information publicly accessible or how are you able to find out?

I think what helped is that I am on an EU Blue card because the lady interviewing my spouse even mentioned it when my wife messed up during the A1 fluency test.

She asked my spouse to tell her what she did the previous day in german and when she went blank, asked her to write it on paper, giving her another chance, citing the above.

On my end, they requested for some unusual documentation, like a letter from my health insurance with a history of my insurance type and the companies I have worked for since arriving in germany. That request was so unusual that my german colleague did not know that a document like that from a health insurance even exists. He spoke to them on my behalf and I received it.
Congratulations! I have a few questions:

Is A1 fluency still necessary if the spouse is a blue card holder? I read that the requirement is waived off in this case.

Also, how many weeks after your spouse’s interview at the Lagos embassy did the German government reach out to you provide your supporting documents?

Lastly, does an exact 24m^2 apartment satisfy the requirement for sufficient living space? In addition, what happens if the apartment’s rent agreement does not contain the apartment size? Must I request an additional document containing this info from my landlord?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks, do they ask questions about accomodation you and your family intended to stay. Because i am finding it difficult to book or see accomodation from Nigeria. And I learnt that airbnb ot hotel cant be used for city registration. How do I go about for myself and family, we planning to travel together
You're not expected to have accommodation there already. You can start looking once the visa is granted.

However, you'd need to enroll for health insurance from here. Hopefully you've been able to already.

Best thing to do is to apply now. It won’t be an issue.
Alright, thank you. I guess it would be best to delay the change of surname to avoid the bureaucratic stress and delays, right?

Hi everyone,

I was thinking about my partner (we're not married yet) applying early for the reunion visa and in the 18 months+ when we get an appointment, we would have already completed the marriage and other formalities.

My question: is this allowed and/or could it cause issues during the appointment if they see that the date on the marriage certificate is later than when the visa application was first submitted?

Hello, does anyone know how long it typically takes nowadays for application of work visa from Nigeria when one already has a job offer/contract from a company in Germany?

I've scrolled through recent discussions here but I can only find information on family reunion visa.
Thanks.
You should get a decision in 3-4 weeks.

I used a temp mail to open this account so I don’t have access to the mail.

If you have another private medium where we can communicate, sure I don’t mind.

I’d say bring only the documents listed as required on the online portal where you applied. I believe it is stated explicitly and it usually is your original school certificates (from primary to university level).

Nonetheless, even if you bring more documents than requested, there is no penalty - you would simply just take it back home. So you can add other documents like your employment contract, erkalung bla bla - declaration of commitment, marriage certificate, birth certificate/affidavit, birth certificates for your children & spouse, vorabstimmung (pre-approval doc), ZAB evaluation report etc.

Do not forget to bring along a clear passport photograph.
Thank you 🙇🏾

Hi all,

My physical appointment for the blue card is tomorrow. I already got my documents approved via the online portal previously. They stated that I don’t need to come along with documents that were already uploaded, except for original documents like passport, University certificate etc.

To be safe, I also obtained the following documents from the checklist on the official website: Letter of motivation, Signed employment contract, Evidence of previous employments, Courier envelope.

Besides the original documents requested, are there some other documents they may ask for that aren’t included in the checklist?

Thanks in advance.

Why not get the original copy of this certificate from WAEC? It would be good to have this for both the interview and the future. Since you asked, I’d advise you get the original hard copy certificate, especially as I do not see why WAEC wouldn’t give you if you have not collected it already.

The stress in notarising the print out is almost the same as requesting for your original WAEC certificate. Unless the digital certificate has same value as the hard copy? Which if this was the case, you would not need to stress about notarization.

On another note, why are you about to schedule an appointment?? Please schedule your appointment first then ask any questions later.
I eventually went to my secondary school to get it. Thanks!

Have you done ZAB? I am in Germany currently came with work visa.
I don’t think I need to do this if my university and degree is recognized by the Anabin database.

Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Great response. Thank you Chief.

Did you learn German before you left?
I haven’t left yet 😅. Just started my application for the blue card recently. I’ve been working remotely for them.

I am also learning German too. Currently A2 according to Duolingo. You likely don’t need to know German for the job if it’s an international company.

Good evening Everyone,
I am new to this Japa thing but of recent decided it's time to move.

I have 12yrs work experience spanning Telecom, IT and Sysadmin. I have picked interest in Germany because someone hinted I can get IT jobs in Germany. Randomly I am applying on LinkedIn, to follow up with Indeed. Please I need some suggestions and directions here.
Also, I have started learning German on Duolingo.

Please advice a brother! Thank you
I have around 4 years of experience but I got my current job with my German employer by randomly applying for jobs on LinkedIn in 2022. It’s harder to do that now due to the global market conditions but I imagine with your years of experience, you could still be able to pull it off.

You can also check out r/cscareerquestionsEU on Reddit. You would find present/past stories of people’s experience with applying for German jobs.

Hello everyone, I have a question concerning health insurance coverage for work visa application.

Please, for anyone who applied for the EU blue card, did you submit a health insurance coverage in your online application? If you did, was it obtained from your employer or did you purchase a private insurance in order to get pre-approval for the appointment?

Thanks.
I enrolled for public health insurance with Techniker Krankenkasse. During the registration, you’d have to include your employer’s details anyway. I submitted the confirmation in my online application and it was accepted.

Good thing is that it doesn’t start counting until the specified start date (when you move to Germany) so it doesn’t have any initial cost to get enrolled.

You might also want to go with private insurance. But there are pros and cons. Like how it’s very difficult to switch to public health insurance once you’ve gone private, etc

Thanks for your response. I guess I’ll need to visit my school to get the certificate. I was just given statement of result as at the time I needed to enter uni.

I wanted to have all my documents ready first. But it’s good advice to schedule an appointment now that they’re available. Thanks.

Hello,

I’m about to schedule an appointment at the embassy for blue card application. I already uploaded my documents to the German portal and it passed preliminary review.

However, I don’t have the “original” WAEC hard copy certificate but I have the digital certificate which was obtained from the WAEC portal.

Is a printout of this digital certificate sufficient or do I need to physically go to the WAEC office to get the hard copy? Or can I notarise the printout from the Lagos High Court, for example?

Hi everyone,

Regarding the application for blue card, how does one go about sending transcript from one’s university to the embassy?

How possible is it to request for the transcript to be dispatched to the embassy before the interview date?

Or would be possible to share your login details to the diplo portal for the uni to upload it directly? My university has this option but the portal has 2fa verification on login so it wouldn’t be possible for them to upload it this way without the verification code.

Hello, can you share the documents you submitted?
I submitted the documents listed in https://nigeria.diplo.de/ng-en/-/2566564 that applied to my case.

I’ve also been granted a schengen visa in the past so maybe that helped too.

If you are applying for a Blue Card work visa the wait time is not as long. You will need to apply online via the Auslands Portal: https://digital.diplo.de/ Complete the form and upload all the necessary documents, the embassy will check your documents for completeness and then invite you to book a date via the portal.

If you are applying for Family Reunion then there's a long wait. I hope this helps
Thanks a lot

Hi everyone,

I’ve been reading up on the thread and I see that there is a 1 year plus wait time for visa appointment.

Does this long wait apply for reunion visa or blue card or for both?

I’m looking to apply for a blue card. On the german website, it looks like it’s possible to apply online. Is this the case or not?

Hi,

The website states that the Consulate in Lagos only accepts payment for the application fee via POS now. However in the email for the appointment booking, it’s stated that they accept payment via cash or via POS.

Can someone who has had an interview recently at the Consulate in Lagos please confirm?

Hi all,

I applied for a business visa and had my interview on 21st November.

Yesterday, DHL returned my prepaid envelope with my passport and a print out saying I have been issued a visa. I'm a bit confused now though as to when or how I'm supposed to receive the actual visa. Would it be sent via email or how would I receive the visa?
