Failed Federal Roads: The Fact They Dance Around, The Fictions They Are Feigning. ~By Peter Uwuoruya, mipma It is no longer news that nearly all the federal roads particularly the one in the South-South/Eastern region were intentionally abandoned since the past 8 years by the failed APC-led federal that came on board with the mantra of "change" used to deceived the people, so many Nigerians have been suffering due to reckless abandonment of the roads which has somewhat crippled the social economic status of the areas, and have also led to the lost of lives, goods and properties of many Nigerians. A lot of calls have been made to the Federal Ministry of Works and its agencies FERMA but all to no avail, due to those developments, some Nigerians maybe out of emotions, sentiments also keep calling on state as well because the state government are closer to the people, some of the failed APC media allays sees this as an opportunity to misinform and misled the gullibles have also been hiding under these guise to lampoon the opposition state Governors like it in Edo and sell all kinds of hogwash stories to hoodwink the unsuspected public, but they failed to acknowledge the fact that their incompetent and clueless government at the centre failed the people in all ramifications. Even there are established fact that the Governor of Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki has made several attempts to do palliative works or takes over the rehabilitation of the entire roads, but due to the stringent policies put in place by the same Federal government whose responsibility is to fixed all the federal roads have been denying the people public goods, Buhari led APC have used that as an impediments to denied Nigerians what is due to them. It is the responsibility of the Federal Government to do the federal work and on this basis, allocations are being shared in that line, just as it was stated by the immediate past Minister of Works, Mr. Babatunde Fashola,SAN when he visted Edo State to see the deplorable condition of Sapele road before their tenure ellipsed 3 months ago, I quote; ..."there are processes, there are laws, by law the roads are Federal roads, by law, states can ask for them, Federal government can grant them under certain conditions, the President who is the custodian of those roads must be informed, he must meet in council with his Ministers to inform them, he wants to give this road to this state...states that are connected to that road like Kogi, Delta States, we must hear from them, the process has to be followed...he added that there is a distance between proposal, implementation and results, from this of the Minister, every discerning mind can tell that the APC led Federal government is playing with the sensitivity of intelligent Nigerians because these same roads were claimed to be awarded earlier by the same Minister. One will ask, after putting in place those stringent conditions to deprived the States from acting why is the Federal government failing to address the precarious situation? Why its failure to addressed the plight of the people? Why are they shying away from it in addition to the wicked policies they they smashed at Nigerians with at the inauguration of their new unpopular government, Nigerians have never had it this bad from 1999 till 2015. What also bother many Nigerians most is that, from year to year, a huge amount of resources are being budgeted for roads construction, rehabilitated and reconstruction, just like the states also have their own state responsibility. It is only the mischief makers that will know all these and still go about to maliciously and mischievously call out the state, or the Governors when the federal government refused to perform their responsibilities like the big brother government it is with all the resources it allocate to itself monthly. In order for them to defend or cover up their party malfeasance and wickedness against Edo people, whenever they are being challenged with facts and figures of their 8 years poor performance in power, these APC aligners go about showcasing some of the roads the state government is yet to attend to, to be realistic, Edo State, under the leadership of Governor Godwin Obaseki with the lean resources have experienced a lot of infrastructural growth, so many roads, bridges and flood control structures have been built and many are still ongoing, so many gully erosion sites neglected by past administrations have been reclaimed, coupled with the institutional reforms as well as making the state economy attractive for investors without making too much noise about them. To show the level of decadent and infrastructural and administrative deficit APC led the nation, it is there on the news and in the public domain the complaints of Tinubu led APC new government accusing the Buhari led APC past government of handing over a death economy to it, meanwhile in another hand, so many Nigeria pundits and observants have also opined that Buhari government is better than what we have now as new government going by it clueless and unfruitful policies that have pushed Nigerians into abject poverty, this has further shows clear that APC as a political party has failed woefully in all entirety and it responsibility to provides good leadership to Nigeria and Nigerians shows that it is a disaster, hence the party and it's naive supporters should bury their head in she and take responsibility for their obvious failure, instead of looking for the opposition Governors to drag along.

Obaseki, Namibia explore trade, investment opportunities in livestock farming, technology, others …says partnership ‘ll stem protein shortfall in Nigeria The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has initiated talks with the Namibian Government to explore trade and investment opportunities in livestock production, technology, and management services, among others between the Country and Edo State. The governor disclosed this when he played host to the Namibia Ambassador to Nigeria, Humphrey Geiseb, and his wife, Lena, who were on a courtesy visit at the Government House, in Benin City, the Edo State capital. Obaseki called for increased collaboration to drive economic growth and reap other economic benefits that lie in increased bilateral trade relations between the national and sub-national governments. Obaseki said, “We appreciate you for taking the time to meet with us on a government-to-government basis and explore opportunities available in terms of economy and other forms of cooperation. We have had a cordial relationship with your Country in terms of the struggle for independence to date. “We appreciate the fact that we are extending the relationship beyond national to sub-national relationships. Businesses and citizens live in the States and I am not surprised that many Countries like yours and diplomats like you go into Countries to see how to do business together, taking advantage of the bilateral agreement and other agreements already established by the two Countries.” The governor further noted, “Namibia has a strong economy and has challenges like any other African country but has established global competitiveness in other areas and that is where we would like to collaborate with you. We believe opportunities exist in terms of services and I don't see why we can't work with some of your professional services firms in the areas of technology, and management services, among others. “Most importantly, we admire the way you run your livestock industry in Namibia and it is one area, as a State, that we would be exploring opportunities to see how we can collaborate and cooperate to help us stem the protein shortfall in our Country.” He added, “We would be counting on your support to see how you can partner with us with high-value agricultural regions in Namibia to enable us to establish working relationships with those regions to see how we begin to boost investment and trade. We believe this is the first of many visits, and we would take time out to come and see you in Abuja and commence further conversation on these areas of cooperation.” In his response, Geiseb said the visit was to explore areas of investment in Edo State, adding, “Our cooperation between Nigeria and Namibia is very good as Nigeria has supported Namibia during its struggle for independence. “Today, Namibia and Nigeria maintain a cordial relationship and continue to ensure strong cooperation in various areas and this year or next year, we will host the 5th session of the Nigeria-Namibia Joint Commission of Cooperation to discuss cooperation in various areas.” He further noted, “Our visit today is aimed at strengthening the relationship between Edo State and Namibia and sharing free ideas where opportunities exist. Edo State has a lot of opportunities that Namibia business people could tap into and through that, we are hoping we can come to participate in the Benin Trade Expo taking place this year or next year. This will give us the opportunity to showcase Namibia’s products and also observe products produced in Edo State. “There are many opportunities for cooperation and bilateral trade in various areas as the governor has expressed the readiness of the State to work with Namibia in the areas of animal husbandry as we work to produce quality beef and export same to the rest of the world.”

So many roads have been rehabilitated, and constructed including some that have been abandoned for years, example Textile Mill, Ugbor-Amagba, Okabere, Ekosodin and many others, the truth is that, no single government can create solutions or meet up with all that the people expect from the government considering the time and resources available for them, but a good leader will utilise anything available within his or her reach to address the best he can attend to, all of these are what Governor Godwin Obaseki has been doing. |
God wins, PDP, Once Dead Party Received Life. ~By Peter Uwuoruya, mipma Since the PDP lost to the State to the opposition ACN (Now APC) in 2008 at the Court of Appeal, it became a party that was being used by political traders to negotiate their way for contracts and other pecuniary gains and their selfish desires, in every elections year at the detriment of other party members and loyalists, the then leadership was for self service and self aggrandisement with a flare of showmanship with the press to deceived the followers. Governor Godwin Obaseki coming to PDP has made the party a viable and the ruling party in the state, his style of governance, his policies and programmes and institutional reforms have attracted both the apolitical and uninterested citizens to become interested in the political governance of our dear state, all of these have expanded the support base of the party, the mass movement of people into the party prior to 2020 governorship election was actually a clamour for continuation of his goods and total support for a man with a genuine commitment to the service of the people and not the works of the incompetent and infertile leadership that was resistant to the party progress and victory for over 12 years. The song was "Anywhere Godwin go, na there we go, go"...his entering to the party makes the party become more democratised, a development that didn't go down well with the political merchants who are not in politics for party victory and good governance, but to sell the party tickets to the highest bidders and mortgage the party victory to the ruling party as it was in the past. Governor Obaseki being a man who believes in all inclusiveness, his entrance to the party brought overwhelming gains of having PDP outside leading the Executive Council of the State today, but also has overwhelming majority in the State House of Assembly, and recently had all the 18 local government councils head by PDP members as Chairman, this was last seen 15 years ago. Under his watch, the party is now controlling all facets of governance in the State, right from ward Councillorship, I think, this is what all political party aspires for, going by the popular say, "politics is local".

FG lacks capacity, can’t fix federal roads, says Obaseki …faults naira devaluation, says policy pulling more Nigerians into poverty …to work with council chairmen to construct alternative roads in Edo The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said the Federal Government lacks the capacity to effectively manage itself and cannot be trusted to fix federal roads in the State, noting that the State Government will work with the newly inaugurated local council chairmen to build alternative roads to end the suffering of residents and other users of the federal roads in the State. Obaseki, while addressing journalists in Benin City, said his government remains committed to advancing development in all communities and improving the livelihoods and welfare of the people of the State. The governor said, “The Federal Government as you know today lacks the capacity to manage itself not to talk of building these roads. It will take a while for them to be able to build and fix those roads. Fortunately, we have had other connections, so our priority is to design and work with the State and local governments to build alternative State roads. Infrastructure is important and we should be able to move our people, their goods and services across the State to bring development. “Today, we are in a crisis in our Country. What is hurting Edo is the advantage we have in terms of our location of being at the core of the Country and therefore being connected with roads owned by the Federal Government. When we build those roads, they will be barricaded and restricted for use.” Decrying the current economic realities in the Country which has continued to impoverish more citizens, Obaseki noted, “As you know today, we are facing very harsh economic times and it's tough. Every day, the naira gets devalued and more people go into poverty as they can’t feed themselves. As a people and a society, we can't turn our eyes and abandon our people. We must look for a way to strengthen them and ensure that our citizens don't go to bed hungry. “The poorest of the poor and the weakest in the society must not go to bed hungry and must be taken care of as it's our responsibility as a government. We can't wait for palliatives but rather create our own palliatives for Edo people; that surely, we will do for them.” |
Edo LG Polls: Group commends Obaseki, EDSIEC for peaceful, credible conduct of elections …lauds Edo people for massive turnout …tasks winners on performance, sportsmanship Edo-based socio-political group, the Concerned Edo Citizens Forum (CECF), has commended Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, for ensuring the enabling environment for Edo people to elect their representatives at the local government level during the September 2, 2023 Local Government elections in the State. In a statement, the group Convener, Comrade Roy Oribhabor, said “After critical evaluation of the just concluded Local Government election in Edo State, we humbly appreciate Edo people who came out to perform their civic responsibilities, the turnout was impressive, therefore, Edo people has once again demonstrated their political sophistication and understanding, the election was peaceful where we monitored based from our feedback mechanism. “We commend the chairman of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission for a job well done despite the late arrival of materials in some polling units. This was not enough to discredit the entire process, hence, we salute the leadership and management accordingly.” He continued: “We hereby congratulate the winners and also, call on those who think otherwise to approach a court of competent jurisdiction to seek redress rather than embarking on a journey of self-help. In Democracy, the majority will always have their way while the minority will have their say. “Now that the election has come and gone the winners must not see the opportunity for self-serving but to develop and formulate policies that will enhance social well-being of the society. They must work above corruption and greed but show sportsmanship in government and governance.” |
