Edo State Government Presents Forty-One Million Naira to Twelve Families of Deceased Employees

In adherence to the Pensions Reform Law Act of 2014 and the Edo State Contributory Pension Scheme Law of 2010 (as amended), the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration has consistently ensured the timely disbursement of accrued benefits to the families of deceased employees. This commitment to the welfare of civil and public servants, and their families, was once again underscored during a recent ceremony where cheques were presented to the beneficiaries.

The cheque presentation ceremony which held at the Office of the Head of Service in Edo State, was presided over by the Head of Service, Dr. Anthony Okungbowa, Esq represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Services, Mrs. Priscillia Aziegbemhin. Expressing condolences to the families of the departed colleagues, Dr. Okungbowa commended the state government's efforts in ensuring the prompt and accurate distribution of benefits to the deceased employees' families.

In his address, Dr. Okungbowa advised the beneficiaries to utilize the funds judiciously and to maintain harmony within their families to prevent unnecessary conflicts. He emphasized the government's appreciation for the contributions made by the deceased employees during their service.

Subsequently, cheques were presented to representatives from the twelve families, including those of late Aigbolosimuan Sunday, late Friday Ukurebor, late Samu Haruna Hassan, late Usman Shakiratu, late Oviasu Itohan Joy, late Osarenkhoe Patience, late Ikoghode Henry Umoru, late Osagie Aaron, late Akhuetuamen Joy, late Eguefo Dora, and late Lawal Joan Bosede. The total amount disbursed during the ceremony summed up to N41,886,389.52 (forty-one million, eight hundred and eighty-nine thousand, three hundred and eighty-nine naira, fifty-two kobo).

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Jacinta Cocodia, a sibling of late Joan Bosede Lawal, expressed gratitude to the State Government, acknowledging that while their loved ones may be gone, the gesture by the State Pension Bureau has brought solace to their grief.

While speaking in Benin City immediately after Dr. Ighodalo was declared winner of the primary election that was keenly supervised by the electoral committee set up by the PDP National Working Committee and observed by representatives of the INEC at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, the former Edo State Law Review Boss described Dr. Asue Ighodalo's victory as God ordained and well deserved.

The Majority Leader Edo State House of Assembly and Member representing Ovia North-East One Constituency, Hon.(Barr.) Charity Iguodala Aiguobarueghian yesterday moved a motion for the house to grant a speedy approval to the applications from Edo State Government seeking for approval for facilities to address the needs and plights of Edo people due to the hardship Nigerians are currently facing as a result of the Federal Government subsidy removal policy brought about by Tinubu-led administration resulting to the high increase in the prices of public goods, high cost of living leading to poverty.

Why speaking, the Majority Leader highlighted that sequel to the subsidy removal, the state government led by Governor Godwin Obaseki has been notable in putting measures on ground to reduce the hardship, including making the state own Edo City Transport Service (ECTS) buses available for Edo citizens, to transport them freely from one location to another in order to cushion the effects of the suffering caused by the subsidy removal, Barr. Aiguobarueghian added that if the application is granted by the honourable house, it will enable state government procure the 50 CNG buses and construct roads and drainags in the new Coral City in Benin, that will go a long way to further ameliorate the suffering of the Edo residents, he concluded by saying that there is need to meet the gap, since the money appropriated for it is not readily available for now.

Seconding the motion, the honourable member representing Ikpoba-Okha constituency, Hon. Nicholas Asonsere said the request should be granted, furthermore, he revealed that there are 3 ways government source for funds, it's either from the federal allocation, internally generated revenues or through loans, he therefore urged his colleagues to support the motion to enable the Governor finish well.

Other members who spoke in support of the motion include Hon.(Dr.) Richard Edosa, the Deputy Speaker, Rt.Hon.(Mrs) Mariam Edekor, they both agreed that facilities will go a long way in addressing the challenges the people are currently facing due to the hardship caused by the effects of the subsidy removal.

On his part, the Speaker, Rt.Hon. Blessing Agbebaku appealed to the lawmakers to support the motion, he assured them that the facilities will take care of one or two projects in their various individual constituency if granted by the house.

Speaking further, the Speaker frowned at the ugly situation in Edo State today and Nigeria in general, whereby Nigerians have money in their various bank accounts but can't access their money when they are in need of the cash, but when you go to occasions, you will see "money vendors" selling cash at a very high cost, he assured the people of the State that, the house will soon come together and put a stop to ugly scenario.

The house in its magnanimity also approved the application of over N9 billion as contractor, finance and bank guarantee loan from First bank for the state government to construct some housing units in Asokoro, Abuja.

In another development, the Majority Leader Barr. Aiguobarueghian also moved a motion for the adoption of the new calendar for the third quarter of the legislative year of the 8th Assembly in this quarter which encompasses February 19 days, March 21 days and April 21 days as well as the yesterday's January 29th special section amounting to 62 days, the motion was seconded by Member representing Etsako East Constituency, Hon. Kingsley Ugabi, the Majority Leader revealed that, if the proposed 62 dags is achieved in addition with the 55 days seatings each in the first and second quarters of this 8th Assembly amount to 172 days, he said; it will set the honourable house out as a house that is diligent and dedicated, the motion was unanimously adopted by the house.

The Majority Leader and Member representing Ovia North-East One Constituency, Edo State House of Assembly Barr. Charity Iguodala Aiguobarueghian has finally brought panacea to the problem of flooding that has been a major issue to the people of Iguosa, specifically between 7Up bottling Company and the Iguosa estate gate fir years, that have driven away so many residents in the areas and turning house owners to emergency tenants.

Hon. Aiguobarueghian, after taking inspection tour round the affected areas along with the team of engineers from Edo State Flood and Erosion Watershed and Management Agency (FEWMA) and the community representives, he said; his attention was drawn to the situation that has been a major challenge to the people of the area, during his electioneering campaign, and he promised the people then, that he would ensure that the issue will be addressed when elected, hence he vowed that he will ensure that the plight of the people of that vicinity of the flood menace is addressed once and for all.

It will be recall that, in october last year, the Honourable had interfaced with the 7Up bottling Company as a representative of others Companies, the Iguosa community delegates, at the meeting, it was agreed that the companies should join heads together to handle the project as their corporate social responsibility, it was also agreed upon by all parties that, an engineering company should be sought-after to take proper view of the problem and cost the project so that appropriate action will be taken to address the menace.

Having done all of these, it was realised that the cost of the project will be
enormous, too weighing and burdensome for the companies, hence the Majority Leader took a step further to sought for alternative means to curb the menace by facilitating the intervention of the State Flood and Erosion Watershed and Management Agency (FEWMA) formerly Nigeria Erosion Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) to create a long-lasting solution to the problem, the pragmatic lawmaker added that as a proactive legislators, he is committed to deliver the goods of democracy to the door steps of his constituency.

The Edo Flood and Erosion Watershed and Management Agency (FEWMA) Engineers later took overview of the affected areas and assured residents that work will commence in earnest.

Some of the community residents in the area who spoke on the issue lamented about all they have been suffering in the area, while pouring encomium on the Honourable for unassuming nature of relating with the people, they described him as a Godsent, they appealed to him not to relent in his efforts and they further assured him of their continues support.

The much awaited Ovia North-East One Constituency Town Hall meeting has been held with a beehive of activities, the event which was held at the College of Education hall was parked full of members of the constituency from various wards including Enigie, community leaders, representatives of Nigeria Automobile Technician Association (NATA), Market Women Association, Farmers Association, National Association of Nigeria Students NANS, SUG UNIBEN, NURTW, RTEAN, Keke riders Association, Edo State Security Network, party members among others.

In his opening remarks, the host, member representing Ovia North-East One Constituency and Majority Leader Edo State House of Assembly Hon.(Barr.) Charity Iguodala Aiguobarueghian thanked participants for creating time out to be part of the event, he said that the main reason why the town hall was organized, was to tell the people what he has been doing and to also hear from the people what their major needs are.

Immediately after the host's open remark, the floor was now made open for individuals, group representatives and party members across various party divides to speak, some the individuals, groups representatives and party members that spoke eulogised, the sterling leadership quality of the Honourable Member who they adjudged has done marvellously well, they lauded the initiative of organising the town hall meeting, gear towards having robust interactions with stakeholders, they described the gesture as a model and first of it's kind in the constituency, he appealed that, it should be sustained, they added that Hon. Charity Iguodala Aiguobarueghian, Esq. is a square peg in a square hole, they also described him as a beacon of light in the legislative business in Edo State.

The constituents thereafter cited roads, markets, schools, electricity, health centers, job opportunities for their children etc as parts of their challenges.

Speaking earlier, the guest speaker, Dr. (Mrs.) Shola Okunkpolor thanked the people for sending Hon. Aiguobarueghian to represent them at the Edo State House of Assembly, she added that they sent the right person.

Her lecture emphasised on the role of constituents in governance, she said the Majority Leader has come to tell his people what he has done and ask the people their expectations.

Furthermore, she added that the onus now rest on the people to tell the lawmaker the rules and laws that will favour the people and stand after the Majority Leader may have left office.

Collins Ogbewe who extolled the representative capacity of the Majority Leader for his performance within 6 months, he added that, it was the first time such an event is being organised, he appealed to the constituents to continue to give Barr. The Majority Leader, Edo State House of Assembly and Member representing Ovia North-East One, Constituency, Hon.(Barr.) Charity Iguodala Aiguobarueghian today moved a motion for the reintroduction of the monthly environment sanitation and effective waste management system in the State, the motion which was seconded by Member representing Orhionmwon 2, constituency, Hon. Bright Iyamu, while highlighting the importance of the motion, the Majority Leader went back to the memory lane of how the Edo use to be described as "Edo Nimose" because of the cleanliness culture it used to maintained, he also reminded the House, on how the early European explorers described the city of Benin, when they visited, the Majority Leader reiterated how they classified Benin City as one of the most beautiful and best planned cities in the world, making them to named it "the Great City of Benin".

He highlighted that sequel to the past analogy, Edo residents strictly complied with the environmental sanitation regulation policy, which ensured that all the residents in the state participate, thereby making the state cleaned especially the Benin City.

He noted that all efforts put in place by past administrations to revive the system failed, leading to the indiscriminate dumping of refuse on drainages and waterways blockages across the state, Barr. Aiguobarueghian prayed that the motion should be passed, for the good of the people of the State.

Hon. Uyi Omosigho representating Oredo East, Hon. Isibor Ideh, representative Esan North-East 1, Constituency, Hon. Bright Iyamu representing Orhionmwon 2, Constituency who spoke in favour and support of the motion lauded the motion and described it as timely, on his part, the Speaker, Right. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku who expressed his delight over the motion, said the debate should not be over flogged because, the motion was a healthy one, hence the House must do the needful.

The House later unanimously adopted the motion and passed its resolutions that;

1. The Edo State Government is hereby called upon to re-introduce the monthly environmental sanitation exercise from 7:00 am to 10:00 am on every last Saturday of the month, across the 18 Local Government Councils in Edo State.

2. The 18 Local Government Councils are called upon to wake up to their mandate by putting in place measures to effectively monitor and manage the desilting of the drainages and waterways in the Benin metropolis, and all Local Government Council Headquarters in Edo State.

3. The vehicles and materials for execution of waste must be provided by Councils across the State to avert revision of waste to the drains, the Chairmen of Local Government Council Areas in Edo State should invoke and apply all existing sanctions on culprits found to have routed their residential waste disposal pipes into the major water drainages/gutters in their streets and environments; and

4. The Edo State Waste Management Board is hereby mandated to acquire Waste Recycling Bins to tackle the menace of disposable plastic containers and cellophane materials from blocking drainages across the State.

The Speaker on his final note, mandated the Clerk of the House to send copies of the resolution to the concerned appropriate authorities.

The Majority Leader, Edo State House of Assembly and Member representing Ovia North-East One Constituency, Hon. Barr. Charity Iguodala Aiguobarueghian in collaboration with Fuller Life Helps and Empowerment (FLHEI) today launched a two-day free medical outreach for the people of Ekosodin community in Ovia North-East to meet the health needs of the constituents.

The Honourable member who was represented by Mr. George Omobude said, his collaboration with the outreach, is part of his plans to reach out to the people of his constituency by enhancing their well-being as well as saving the lives of the less privileged who cannot afford to pay medical bills.

Barr. Charity Aiguobarueghian made the disclosure today at the flagging-off ceremony of the free medical outreach, which was held at the premises of Living for Christ Mission, Ogunrobo Street, Ekosodin in Ovia North-East Local Government Area. The free medical outreach attracted beneficiaries from every nook and cranny of the community.

The lawmaker who was very excited with the turnout, further explained that he was elected to serve, hence, he would ensure that the people of Ovia North-East one constituency have the best of dividends of democracy under his watch as their representative, he added that, in line with the general saying that; "health is wealth", hence the current government is doing everything possible to make all the public health institutions in the state quality, accessible and affordable to the poor, speaking further, he also commended the developmental strides of Governor Godwin Obaseki led administration for the construction of the Ekosodin road that was abandoned by past successive administrations, he said; since its construction of the road, it has opened up the economic potentials and prospects of the community.

He further assured constituents that the gesture of the outreach will be sustained and appealed to the residents to make use of the opportunity particularly now that things are very hard due to the country’s current harsh economy as a result of the fuel subsidy removal policy implemented by the Federal Government.

He assured them that, he would continue to work hand in hand with others for the provisions of good governance and effective representation for the benefit of his people and for the betterment of his constituency.

Earlier Dr. Adewale gave health talks to the beneficiaries before the commencement of the outreach proper.

Some of the residents and beneficiaries who spoke with excitements, lauded the kind gesture of the Majority Leader, Hon. Aiguobarueghian and the Organisation (FLHEI) for the outreach, they said, it was a great opportunity for them, they appealed to the lawmaker not to relent on his quest to reach out to his constituents, they added that, they will be very grateful if the gesture is sustained, they concluded by assuring him of their supports, come rain, come sun.

In their respective remarks, the Team Consultant, Dr. Adewale and Dr. Dennison Okpara said it was a way of giving back to the society, by addressing their simple health issues, and referring complex issues to the appropriate hospitals were they can be addressed.

A number of patients were attended to during the free medical outreach, the outreach will continue tomorrow.

Isiohor team in the ongoing Charity Iguodala Aiguobarueghian C.I.A. Gold Cup competition have qualified for the next stage of the Gold Cup tournament which is the Ward stage, to represent Oluku Ward after defeating Evbuomore team with two (2) goals to one (1) in a keenly contested match which took place yesterday at the S & T Barracks football pitch along Benin-Lagos expressway.

The match which commenced around 4pm yesterday Wednesday 8th 2023 concluded the preliminary stage of the tournament in Oluku ward, Isiohor team will now joins the league of those that will be slugging it out to emerged champion at the ward stage, as it will be representing Oluku ward.

While speaking at the end of the match, the donor of the Gold Cup Hon.(Barr.) Charity Iguodala Aiguobarueghian, Member representing the people of Ovia North-East one, Constituency and Majority Leader, Edo State House of Assembly who was conspicuously present at the football pitch to observe the match, he congratulated the Isiohor team for its outstanding performance that culminated the team emergence as the Oluku ward champion, some jerseys and footballs were present to the leaders to get the players prepared for the next stage of the tournament. Barr. Aiguobarueghian also lauded the efforts and skillful performance of the Evbuomore team during the match, he therefore gifted the team with a sum money to encourage them, he further appealed to the team to support Isiohor team (now Oluku team) being their ward representative at the ward stage of the tournament by watching their matches and cheering them up as the tournament progresses.

The Majority Leader also reiterated the essence of the tournament as, it is to forster the unity and oneness among the youths in the communities that made up the wards and the constituency atlarge and to get them engaged positively so that they can always disassociate themselves from social vices.

The Majority Leader Edo State House of Assembly and Member representing Ovia North-East 1 Constituency, Hon. Barr. Charity Iguodala Aiguobarueghian was conspicuously present yesterday at the ongoing football tournament which took place at the football pitch of the National Institute For Oil Palm Research (NIFOR) where the team that will represent Isiuwa ward emerged.

In a thrilling display of skillful and classical football, Sharks Football Club on Thursday outshone it's opponent at the ward preliminary stage and emerged victory to secure their place to represents the ward in the final of the first edition of Charity Gold Cup Football Tournament.

Amid a roaring crowd of supporters who had thronged the NIFOR football pitch, the Majority Leader
and initiator of the tournament who was excited with the performance of the Sharks FC gifted the team with 16 pairs of jerseys including that of the goalkeepers and two footballs to encourage the team and to get them prepared for the final stage of the tournament which will take place in December 2023

The team will battle others that will emerged from other wards in the final stage of the competition, scheduled .

It was revealed yesteday that the Oluku ward teams will commence their own tournament that will saw the emergence of the team that will represent the ward today by 2pm scheduled as follows at the S & T Barracks field;

1. Friday 3-11-2023, 2: 00pm (Iguosa ) vs (Evbuomore )

2. Friday 3-11-2023, 4;00pm( Ekosodin vs Idunmwonwina.

3. Saturday 5-11-2023 8:00am Isiohor vs Oluku .

As at the time of filing this report, it was revealed that, team Evbuomore has defeated team Iguosa 3 goals to 2 respectively both under Oluku ward.

While speaking immediately after the yesterday's match at the NIFOR football pitch, Hon. Chariry Aiguobarueghian commended the performance of both team, he urged other teams in other wards that made up the constituency to start their preliminary tournament as scheduled, as soon as possible, other personalities who were with the Majority Leader to witness the match that saw the emergence of Sharks FC as representative of Isiuwa in the ongoing Charity Gold Cup 2023 is the outgoing Executive Director, Nigeria Institute For Oil Palm Research Dr. Celestin Ikuenobe and a host of others.

The Majority Leader Edo State House of Assembly, Barr. Charity Iguodala Aiguobarueghian yesterday met with all the Sector Commanders of the Edo State Security Vigilante Network (EDSSVN) in Ovia North-East Local Government Area, to brainstorm on how to synergise and strengthen the security of lives and properties in the areas thereby improving the economic well-being of the people.

At the meeting where a wide range of security issues were discussed and reviewed to complement the efforts of the Nigeria Police and other security agencies in the area. Hon. Aiguobarueghian commended the men and officers for their dedication to duties and their efforts so far, he urged them to be diligent and to put more efforts in stamping out criminality in the area particularly and the State generally during the upcoming yuletide period.

The Honourable member also used the opportunity to thanked His Excellency Governor Godwin Obaseki for setting up the Security Network outfit and training and retraining them on weapons handling and other areas of security strategies, Aiguobarueghian promised that, he will do all that he can, within his reach as a lawmaker, to strengthen the Network's security architecture with a view of reducing crimes to the barest minimum in the area.

The Majority Leader added that, he wants a security strategic framework that will secure all the communities so that people would henceforth go to bed with their two eyes closed.

Ovia North-East 1 Constituency Football Tournament Kicks Off.

Charity Iguodala Aiguobarueghian who is fondly called "CIA" by his supporters and admirers under auspices of CIA SPORTS DEVELOPMENT has finalised plans to organise this year’s football tournament for the 6 wards that made up the constituency.

The tournament which commenced yesterday at the community level, is slated to go through 2 stages. At the preliminary level, the communities within each of the six wards are to vie whereby the winner from among them will represent the ward at the second stage, meanwhile the two (2) big institutions (NIFOR and UNIBEN) in the constituency are to be featured, making the number of those who would vie for the ward level 8 teams, that is the six ward and the two above named institutions.

At the kick off of the football tournament yesterday in Isiuwa (ward the Honourable Member Charity Aiguobarueghian who was represented, provided the teams with jersey, footballs and other logistics items.

Aiguobarueghian Moves For Application Of Fishery Bill For 2nd Reading

...Emphasised on importance of the fishery bill

The majority leader Edo State House of Assembly, Hon.(Barr.) Charity Aiguobarueghian today moved for the application of executive bill to repeal Edo State fishery law of 1991 and enact law to regulate fishery and other related matters, while speaking on the floor of the house after his motion for the house to desolved into a committee of whole chaired by the speaker, the majority leader emphasised on the importants of fish as a proteinaceous food and business in man's life.

The Ovia North-East 1, Constituency lawmaker stressed the need why his colleagues should support the bill, he disclosed that the bill, when passed, it will make fishery profitable and safe for human consumption, he revealed that there will be penalties for those who will jeopardise the activities of fishery in the state, he therefore urged other members of the house to support the bill to scale through.

The speaker of the house. Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku while speaking on the bill, he also lend his voice by urged other honourable members and giving them more insights why they should support the bill.

Honourables Donald Okogbe, Andrew Uzamere, Richard Edosa, and Natasha Osawaru who also spoke, supported the bill, they further stressed the importance and the benefits Edo people stand to gain when it is passed into law, the chairman of the committee of the whole, Speaker Agbebaku concluded by directing that the bill should be transmitted to the house committee on Agriculture to report back to the house within 2 days. The speaker also acknowledged the presence of the leaders and members of Owan West legislative arm who came to observe the house proceedings.

Earlier before the application was moved, a law repealing the Edo state school of nursing and enacting college of nursing, sciences and technology was also treated by the honourable house.
