If you stay here in ph you will understand how much the ikwerres detest igbo people. Its quite deep and surely his immediate and lager Community will ostracise him. As an anioma person I don't hate igbos but I I don't want to have any close affiliation with them due to their overbearing behaviour. That aside I cant really do without their food. I think they have the best delicacies in Nigeria

Ikwerre are of Igboid and Bini origin mixture.

A small number of Ikwerre feel more of being Igbo like Amaechi and his likes while the majority still remain of Non-Igbo origin.

Amaechi's choice does not reflect the majority Ikwerre stand on being Non-igbos.

If Amaechi feels Igbo that's his cup of tea. Stop dragging the overwhelming majority to personal choices of a minute, insignificant number of Ikwerres.

Their language Ikwerre language is a dialect of Igbo language, it is wrong to say their language have some Igbo in it. Everything that Ikwere is speaking is Igbo but for political reasons some are denying not being Igbo. Other Igbo language spoken in different dialects include Anioma in Delta ( Ika, Ibuzor,Enuani,Ukwuani, Asaba, Igbanke in Edo State). Every central Igbo person hear what they say and they also hear central Igbo without any difficulties.

I have recent ancestry in several parts of Igboland and I can tell you that everybody talks smack about everyone. However, when push comes to shove, we unite to help our people, no matter where they come from.

My only advice to you and your likes is to start changing your names, customs, traditions and anything that is related to the Igbos because when that day comes, saying you're Ika will not save you. Just ask the Asaba people or the Rivers Igbo before and during the civil war.

A better analogy would be Castillan Spanish (Madrid) compared to Andalusian Spanish (Seville).

Catalan and Basque (the two regions most known for differentiating themselves from the rest of Spain) are different languages and not intelligible to most Spanish speakers.

My grandmother was from Aboh and she couldn't speak a lick of English, only Igbo. How, then, was she able to survive living in the South-East, seeing as she only knew how to speak her own dialect?

Majority of Enuani people call what they speak Igbo - most of them are okay with that label. But most of them don't want a relationship with the South East for several reasons - including the diverse and heterogeneous nature of the region.

Ika and Ukwuani don't call what we speak Igbo. We speak Ukwuani and Ika. Ika and Ukwuani is even recognised as separate languages linguistically labeled as an IGBOID language. You have to understand the difference between Igboid and Igbo. Igala is a YORUBOID language but it's not Yoruba.

I don't think the urhobo people will bully anybody if we the anioma people leave I think we are well educated and have grown pass that level of bullying base on tribe, look at bayelsa with several languages they all live in peace, look at rivers, aquaibom and cross river too all the tribes live peacefully there

Although intelligibility is not the only way to know how close two Languages are - there are also things like syntax, semantics, grammar can differ even in mutually intelligible language. Intelligibility is mostly a matter of the vocabulary of a certain language or dialect.


All that regardless, the most important factor in language classification is POLITICS. Identity politics specifically. And this is how it is everywhere in the world.

And no, Ika cannot speak Igbo. Any Ika you see speaking Igbo learned it
