Police say two persons have been killed and about 16 others wounded in a gunfire attack at a nightclub in Florida in the United States.

The shooting happened during a party for teenagers at Club Blu in the city of Fort Myers.

The mayor of a town in one of Mexico's most violent drug corridors was shot to death, the second mayor killed in Mexico in two days.

Ambrosio Soto was mayor of a township that includes Ciudad Altamirano, a known haven for drug traffickers in southern Guerrero state.

Roberto Alvarez, spokesman for southern Guerrero state, said Sunday that gunmen blocked a highway just over the state line in neighboring Michoacan state with pickup trucks and opened fire on the mayor's vehicle late Saturday. He said two federal officers serving as Soto's bodyguards were wounded in the attack.

A 27-year-old Syrian asylum seeker has killed himself and injured 12 others after setting off an explosive device outside a music festival in the German town of Ansbach.

According to authorities, the 27-year-old had been denied asylum a year ago and had a history of making attempts on his own life. Three of those injured are in a serious condition.

It is believed a device he was carrying exploded although it is not clear whether it was a suicide bombing or whether the man intended to plant it and harm others.

Russia has escaped a total ban from the 2016 Rio Olympics following the country’s doping scandal.

Thousands of homes remained evacuated Sunday as two massive wildfires raged in tinder-dry California hills and canyons, and authorities said a burned body was found in one neighborhood swept by the flames.

Gunmen burst into a musician's home in southern Mexico before dawn on Thursday, decapitated him and killed his wife and son, police said.

The armed group entered the family's home in Juchitan, Oaxaca state, at 2:30 am and killed Victor Sanchez, 40, the singer of the tropical band Sensacion Caribu, the police said in a statement.

His wife and 11-year-old son were gunned down.

It was the second slaughter of a family this week in Oaxaca, a state that has been relatively spared of the drug violence afflicting other regions of Mexico.
