Recently, I discovered the trending hashtag #Baltasar_Engonga on X in Nigeria. The hashtag revealed numerous videos allegedly showing Baltasar Ebang Engonga Avomo's intimate encounters with high-profile individuals. Many praised his sexual exploits, comparing them to those of biblical figure Solomon, with some noting that while Solomon's exploits are legendary, Baltasar's are backed by visual evidence circulating online. Baltasar Ebang Engonga Avomo is an Equatoguinean public official born on March 15, 1970. He was the head of the National Agency for Financial Investigation (ANIF), responsible for managing financial regulations and investigations to prevent financial crimes like money laundering and corruption. His role was crucial in ensuring compliance with both national and international financial standards. As a member of Equatorial Guinea's elite political families, Baltasar is the nephew of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema and the son of Baltasar Engonga Edjo'o, the head of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) Commission and a former Finance Minister. Considering Baltasar's numerous infidelities, I wonder if he might be struggling with satyriasis. Alternatively, his actions could be indicative of a consensual non-monogamous lifestyle, such as swinging, where partners engage in extramarital relationships for recreational purposes. The leaked videos involving his wife have sparked speculation about their marital dynamics, potentially pointing to an open marriage. This lifestyle choice, popularized during the 1960s sexual revolution, emphasizes mutual consent and has been explored in various cultural contexts. Others propose that their marriage might be a marriage of convenience, also known as an arranged marriage, driven by practical considerations rather than love or commitment. Various factors contribute to such unions, including: family pressure, immigration benefits, social status enhancement, political alliances (common among aristocrats and politicians), economic gains (merging business interests, typically among the wealthy). In essence, a marriage of convenience prioritizes mutual benefit over emotional connection. Festus Iyayi's novel "Violence" is an eye-opener and a thought-provoking critique of Nigeria's societal issues during the 1970s. Written in 1979, the book satirizes the widespread corruption and moral decadence that plagued the country, particularly during the Shagari regime. This was a time when the country was flooded with "petro-naira," seemingly endless wealth from oil revenues, yet corruption and graft were rampant. The novel sheds light on the harsh realities of poverty and its devastating effects on individuals, families, and society as a whole. Iyayi's work is often compared to the literary exposés of Charles Dickens and Victor Hugo, who wrote about the brutality of life for the underclass in 19th-century Britain and France. Through "Violence," Iyayi offers a powerful commentary on the social ills that persist in Nigeria and the African society, including corruption, poverty, and moral decadence. His writing serves as a reflection of the country's struggles during that era, providing a glimpse into the lives of those affected by these issues. As lavish public projects sprouted up, a select few with connections exploited these opportunities to accumulate vast wealth overnight. Meanwhile, the stark contrast worsened the plight of the impoverished majority, rendering their lives increasingly unbearable. This stark divide is exemplified through two families: one affluent, likely bound by a marriage of convenience, and another destitute, once united by love but seemingly torn apart by hardship. Circumstance forced the latter to renege on their marital promises. Queen, the wife of wealthy businessman Obofun, leverages her beauty and sexuality to secure lucrative contracts for their joint hotel venture. She engages in transactional relationships, trading sexual favours for material benefits, as seen in her dealings with Iriso by exchanging sex for goods worth 500 naira from government stocks controlled by Iriso and an attempted seduction to Idemudia to prevent a workers' strike, after initially offering him money. Notably, Queen's husband, Obofun, is aware of and condones her actions, revealing a mutually beneficial arrangement. In stark contrast, the author portrays the heartbreaking struggles of Idemudia and Adisa, a young, impoverished couple living in a humble mud-house on Owode street. Their poverty is vividly illustrated through everyday challenges where Adisa must stoop to use a short broom, highlighting their meager resources, and a neighbour's radio serving as Idemudia's alarm clock, underscoring their lack of basic amenities. The author poignantly captures the couple's desperate struggle to survive in a society marked by callousness and corruption, where making an honest living seems impossible. This inequitable system had forced Idemudia to sell his blood multiple times, receiving 15 naira per pint, to provide for his wife's basic needs. Meanwhile, Adisa faces a heartbreaking dilemma: to secure her hospitalized husband's medical care and discharge, she's forced to compromise her dignity by accepting Obofun's sexual propositions in exchange for financial assistance and whisky to resell. The novel critiques how poverty ravages Idemudia and Adisa's marriage, while Obofun and Queen's wealth corrupts their relationship, neglecting their daughter Lilian's well-being. The novel also exposes a stark moral contrast between the wealthy and impoverished, highlighting how poverty and privilege shape relationships and values: Idemudia resisting Queen's advances, while Adisa is anguished by her compromise with Obofun, despite Aunt Salome's pragmatic advice. In contrast, Queen and Obofun's marriage is a transactional, loveless arrangement, with each exploiting the other for personal gain. Obofun justifies his exploitation of Adisa as a fair exchange: money and goods for sexual favours. The novel's climax unfolds as Queen reveals to Idemudia that her husband, Obofun, has been having an affair with Adisa. Idemudia's initial rage and threat to harm Adisa give way to his understanding and empathy. He comes to realize that his wife, a victim of societal exploitation, is forced into prostitution by circumstance. Idemudia reconsiders Adisa's actions as a desperate sacrifice for his well-being, comparable to his own sacrifices, such as selling his blood. This pivotal moment shifts Idemudia's perspective, illuminating the shared struggles and vulnerabilities of those trapped in the exploitative system. The dynamics of relationships are shrouded in mystery, with secrecy being both captivating and addictive. The truth about Baltasar and his wife remains speculative. Are they entangled in a web of exploitation, reminiscent of Iceberg Slim's narrative? Do Equatoguinean politicians similarly leverage their partners for power and protection? We must, however, resist hasty judgments. As biblical Jesus taught, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" (John 8:7). Our own flaws and secrets make us equally vulnerable. In today's social media era, exposed secrets reveal the imperfections of leaders and celebrities, reminding us of their humanity and fallibility. Lion-Pelumi O. |
Praxis758:Same reason Harold Lasswell defined politics as "who gets what, when, and how." It's just unfortunate that people are still hoodwinked by Abraham Lincoln definition of politics. Politics is never about the people, it's all about the politicians selfish interests. Politicians know how to sell a lie to the masses to curry their favour. They know how to play to the gallery. |
Earlier this year, ECOWAS led by Tinubu declared war on the military coup leaders of Niger, Mali & Burkina Faso. The three leaders left ECOWAS & formed a mutual pact alliance of military support should anyone of them be attacked by ECOWAS states. This was one of the initial blunders that Tinubu committed that showed he knew next to nothing about International Politics & Diplomacy. When he realized he couldn't fight that war, he chickened out shamefully. Today, these three military leaders have ruled out returning to ECOWAS even as Nigeria's 🇳🇬 President Bola Tinubu leads Heads of State of the 15-member bloc in a Summit in Abuja to persuade them to return. What is most funny is while Tinubu has made a mess of governance in Nigeria, the military leader in Burkina Faso has thoroughly demonstrated true, sincere & transparent leadership in his country. There is a HUGE PROTEST going on now in Burkina Faso asking the military leader to cancel his plans for a democratic election that will usher in civilian leadership. The people want him to remain in power for now because of how much development they have witnessed in less than one year of his coming to power. But in Nigeria, BATists are now saying there is nothing Tinubu can do to help Nigeria because Nigeria is like a car with a bad engine, there is nothing the driver can do to make it work. Car wey everybody de manage drive, e reach Bulaba turn, e knock am engine and they call those asking questions HATERS. Make we no talk because na una popsy eeeeh fine boys? -Onyeoma CY (From Facebook)

Righteousness2:What is wrong with correcting Brother K among the elders in the church in the pastor's office? Must it be in front of the whole congregation? Can a pastor child commit that same sin and make his son pass through the same process like Brother K? He without blemish should cast the first stone. Do not judge so that you won't be judge. Correcter will do the worse. I pray God open the eyes of your understanding. |

The grandmother Davido (late) is an Igbo woman from Akwuete, Azumini in Abia State. She is the mother of Late Governor Isiaka Adeleke, present Governor Ademola Adeleke and Dr. Deji Adeleke (Davido's dad) and their sister. She married and Ede man and gave birth to successful children. I've waited since yesterday to see one Yoruba ronu epistle on Davido marrying an Igbo babe. Because GRV's crime last year was that he married an Igbo woman....and he is suddenly and omo ale that's unfit to be governor. I've always said that the so called Igbo vs Yoruba fight is purely instigated by shameless politicians who can't win elections on merit. The intensity of the animosity is always linked to Lagos elections particularly governorship elections. Their strategy is deployed using idi**ots like you who are willing tools of propagating hate because you heart is extremely attached to bigotry. You can see how Cubana Chief priest, another Igbo guy is all over the place for his brother. You can see how nobody remembers who is from where. You can also see the seeming blend of Igbo Yoruba ties with so much joy all over the place. But your sick mind will come to sm promoting hate. I can excuse the illiterates but those of you who went to UNIBEN, UI, OAU and other higher institutions and some of you who travel to make money in foreign countries where nobody knows your mother and father are big time f**ls. You may need to consider some psychiatrist help if you continue on this path. -Yinka Festus Adb Mynd44 fergie001

Lukgaf:Nigerians and religion. Superstition thrives where there is no knowledge. This is really uncalled for. Nigerians are just mirror of their leaders. Most Nigerians blaming our politicians will do worse if they have the opportunity to be in power. Imagine a pastor doing this to the extent of using soldiers to brutalise his perceived enemies, yet you will see him every Sunday preaching to his congregation that they should leave fight for God. Hypocrites everywhere. |
blacknp:Well, I leave you to your own opinion. |
LocalFARMERS:Do you know the reason why such action was outlawed? Can you help us to dig more about this for more clarifications? |
flokii:When the president know he can't handle the job why did he go for it in the first place? Stop being bias. |
Chickenandchips:Very wrong mentality. You can never have the balanced view about life. We even learn from our enemies. But wait, why is this thing blocking common among Nigeria cos to me, it always sounds like achievement foe those who engaged in it. |
blacknp:Eedris a wasted vet? Well, I can't trade words with you. You have really chosen your path. Deal with it. |
Dapromzy333:These thieves are just squandering Nigeria resources on frivolities. Well, like Eedris said the "happy slav.es" will not do anything. |

Bitterkola100:Adeboye was supporting GEJ because his friend Tinubu was supporting GEJ. Many didn't realised that Tinubu supported GEJ during his first election in 2011. It was reported that GEJ gave Tinubu billions of naira to make the ground running for him and that is why Tinubu only fielded Nuhu Ribadu as AC presidential candidate then but they didn't really pursue their presidential agenda because Tinubu was codedly working for GEJ. The Nuhu Ribadu candidacy was just a window dressing. It was 2015 that everything changed, the South West felt they were being sidelined as per appointment from GEJ led FG. That made the merger between ACN, and some other parties to birth a new party known as APC. Osibanjo, Adeboye spiritual son and Tinubu political boy was fielded as Buhari vice, so in this case what do you expect Adeboye to do? Moreover, do you think that Redemption Camp of RCCG just come in handy like that? If you know the backhand deals and what transpire between these politicians and people you revered as your Daddy GO, you will be sorry for yourself. Peace |
