Career › Today, I Finally Took The Decision To Quit My Job by Pexta(op):
I informed my boss that I would be leaving by the end of last month. Ordinarily, he doesn't deserve to be notified based on how bad he treated me, but I didn't want a situation where I would leave without informing him, then, they will accuse me of stealing the company's property. I wouldn't want that.
When I assumed my role, the salary we agreed on was 100k for the first month, since the first month is a month of Training and Induction. Then the second and subsequent months would be 120k salary. But to shock you, he never honored his words, not even an appointment letter.
I worked 24hrs, no off days. No rest or sleep. Did you know that this man only paid me 79k as my July salary? All the Bookings amounted to 41k. So despite my humility, hardwork and 24hrs availability, he never considered that I worked overtime?
He brought in two new supervisors from another branch and asked that I put them through. I've spent over six days training them on all they need to know. Finally, he told me he will be transferring me to his Lagos branch to hear the place as Manager.
All my life, I've never seen such a boss. But it's well. Sometimes, diligence, commitment and dedication to work and honesty do not Pay after all. It's well.

There are No Labor Laws in this country and employers are ripping us off. It's really sad. 😢

If I didn't quit, my self-esteem would be seriously affected by his insults and continuous yelling. At the moment, I'm even scared of working for people since efforts are never appreciated. Everywhere I have worked, I have done so to the best of my Ability, and God bears me witness. All employers are compelled to admit that I'm Hardworking and committed. And I will never steal your penny. As a supervisor, all cash transactions were in my custody. But I never touched a dime even when I'm hungry and without hope of food. All monies were accurately accounted for, and there were never reports of theft .

The truth is your boss is sick of you, for him to call you ugly says everything. He's tired of your guts. A friend in Porth Harcourt was like you. He dropped dead at home, from faint to coma to pass on. Keep suffering yourself bro. It's up to you to be free.
Oga, try to read and comprehend before replying.
You said my boss is tired of ME. Didn't u read where I said he did same to my three predecessors who are now former staff?.

I'm a management staff and mine is too pronounced and obvious.

No staff is exempted from this, so I don't understand your response

Lols, how I want take survive if I leave this job,

This phrase has left people in perpetual suffering and humiliation, life goes better to those that question situations and does something about it , that same phrase was exactly why I left my parent house at 17 immediately I fininshed my junior high, I hustled, learned skills, worked and saw my self through the university , I saw people suffering in perpetually because they are afraid to leave their comfort zone

Now ask your self this question, if your boss dies or that hotel gets demolished or the hotel get hit by an earthquake and sinks underground , would your life end as well?

Ask your self again, if your boss decides to sack you even with all your faithfulness and dedication to duties will your life end?
Won’t you go out there and hustle for another opportunity?

Guy, procrastination and indecisiveness is what is keeping you in this ugly and unhealthy situation, make a move and see God bless your effort, continue staying there and see yourself get depressed in perpetually, the choice is yours, tackle life by the horn or continue to throw yourself a pity party 🤝
You've said it all bro. Thanks so much

The good about being micromanaged is you can just push the blame. "This is not allowed, if you have problem with it, when oga comes, you can tell him, but for now, it's not allowed".

You need to find alternative as if your life depends on it. But must manage what you have for now.
It's ok sir.
Thanks so much, I appreciate you deeply. 🙏🙏

Delegate some of those tasks to your subordinates. For example, why didn't the security move the chair at the gate? Tell him that is not allowed and he should send it back if a guest/staff takes it there.

Make a checklist of what to inspect. (I have morning afternoon and night checklist on my note app).

Get mobility, make it normal for you to leave and come back (especially during the afternoon).

You must know how to be stoic... May be have motivational MP3 or affirmations that you play after being exposed to the toxic criticism from your boss.

Manage the job until you have a better alternative. Who is the person discovering all these faults? You should be the one finding the faults and correcting them.

Remember, it's honest-MONEY you looking for. If anything happens to you (God forbid), but that business would not close.
My blood pressure is already high due to lack of sleep, restlessness, unnecessary pressure and tension

If they pay you less than you salary because you forgot a chair at gate for one day and so on... Just walk away.

You would help the next guy. He might be afraid of training someone and they walking away. A new person would have to learn all those rules and protocol.
I didn't even forget a chair.

We have two security guards at the gate. They are not our internal staff but hired from a security firm. These guards took two plastic chairs to sit. They have a long bench to sit on, but the bench is bad and painful to their nyash. They complained about it to me and I said I would discuss with the Boss before they would be able to take them from the store. These are very old chairs. When the Boss drove in and saw the chairs, he began to yell at me, and almost slapped me. Then booked me.

Three of my predecessors left angrily without notifying him, all due to similar maltreatment. We once hired staff and she got angry and left three days after. It's being similar trend all along

Kindly ensure you give someone access to your nairaland account so he or she can announce your glorious exit after you've worked yourself to exhaustion for a brutal capitalist who only sees the dollar sign on your forehead.

All because you're afraid to quit because there's no job out there.

The time you've spent seeking sympathy here, you would have send a CV just as someone has said up there.

Better still, you can leave there today, send a message to your ex colleagues asking them to connect you and if you were true to your words about being hardworking, I'm sure someone will be willing to put you on.

Worst case scenario, you quit today, enter construction site tomorrow, you get your daily pay and a peace of mind as bonus.
I'm just tired, frustrated and depressed.
My mental health is in jeopardy

Oga, your boss is not really your problem because, regardless of your experience, commitment, or how indispensable you think you are, you're still replaceable.
The reasons you're still there may include:
*The allowance and other stipend you're getting, even though the job is draining you physically and mentally.
* You believe you're irreplaceable because of the many responsibilities you handle in the company.

If your boss is nice, I'm sure you probably wouldn't even be thinking about leaving.

The consequences you should consider:
* You may spend most of your youthful years in that job without achieving your personal goals.
* The constant stress and sleepless nights will likely take a toll on your health in the future.
*You're getting exhausted day by day, and your boss has noticed the decline, he's already prepared your replacement. In some workplaces, employees are gradually frustrated until they resign or are eventually dismissed.

Think about your future, Oga. No job is worth sacrificing your health, peace of mind, and personal growth. Plan your exit wisely before circumstances force the decision for you.
Thanks so much Bro. Thanks 👍

So, you "have no time to even go out and submit CVs" that you can very easily send by email or when you network, but you have the time to come on Nairaland to moan about your boss?

Please know that your post reads like your cv would, with some thought and editing, and what you are saying, or rather, what I am understanding from what you wrote, is that you don't have the time to put the effort in to work towards your own improvement of your own situation and would rather moan about it instead, because "It's a complex situation" indeed.

To wit I brutally suggest the below.
Thank you for your brutal response.

I don't have an alternative. I don't have anybody to lean on if I leave here. How do I get another job when I have no time to even go out and submit CVs. ?

Don't you have an appointment letter wherein your work schedule and off days are spelt out? You obviously do not have a house to go to or why would someone keep himself at work beyond his written commitments and to still gets ridiculed instead of being praised angry angry angry
As meticulous as the Boss is, he ought to have understood the importance of Appointment letters, but sadly, he doesn't give appointment letters to his staff.
This is a man who is interested in anything and everything about the Hotel even down to the kitchen utensils. There's nothing that happens that I don't have to write a formal report on it. Every penny that must be spent, is subject to his approval first. How the money is spent must be accounted for, and backed up with proofs. Towels are accounted for, spoons too. Everything u know.
Imagine that it never occurred to such a person to give appointment letters to his staff. Isn't that deliberate?
Is there no sinister motive behind this?
Career › My Job Is Draining Me, My Boss Is Frustrating Me. (Photo) by Pexta(op):
Seriously, I'm tired. I'm fed up. I know what to do, but if I do so, I would be stranded.

I have hussled and worked so hard all my life. As a young boy who lost his dad very early in life, I have done all sorts of menial jobs right from Junior High sch to University ensuring that I see myself through. As a result, it is absolutely out of place for anyone to say I'm Lazy.
I have a Boss who is NEVER satisfied and can never be. Even if you work, sweat and your sweat turns to Blood, he will never see anything positive to say about you. I have seen staff left in anger and frustration after just a week or two of assumption of duty. Artisans and workmen have also left angrily, vowing never to come work here again, because after work, payment becomes an issue.
As a supervisor, I am in charge of all the Hotel's facilities— I perform administrative tasks, run errands, fix technical issues and escalate the ones beyond my capability. I don't have time to rest or off days. Even at night, I don't sleep because I'm constantly monitoring our energy Consumption and sending daily reports. From inverter to Gen to public light, I'm documenting everything as I switch over from time to time. Whatever happens in the hotel, I write reports. I keep stock of the Hotel's in-house consumables and send timely requisitions for procurement of almost-exhausted items. Any delay in all these will make me get Surcharged/booked by my boss. I run errands and do official calls from my own little money. I liase with the police, courts and NEPA when the need arises. I'm in charge of vacuuming and maintaining the swimming pool. I supervise the housekeepers and sometimes assist in cleaning the rooms/toilets. I have consistently remained humble which he had attested to, sometime ago. I remain dedicated and Committed. He admitted to this .
But this man keeps insulting and embarrassing me at any given point. As a management staff, whatever I have to discuss with him must be on the WhatsApp general group, I can't have any private discussions with him. He will ensure he takes you to the public group where he can ridicule you. You can't suggest anything to him. In fact, during every staff meeting, he alone does the whole talking, then ends the meeting without bothering to get inputs from his staff.
Since I started working here, No staff has spent more time at work than me. Everyone goes off, but I'm always on duty. Other close, but I don't. I have a colleague who is also a supervisor, she does 1 day off and 1 day On, our salaries are same.
What do I get from all these ? INSULTS.
— How did you even become a graduate?
Your professors who awarded you that degree did a terrible job.
You're lazy.
You're an Idi**t.
You're even too tiny to challenge me.
Close that your dirty mouth.
You're not smart.
Stop frowning those your ugly faces.

This man torments us physically, mentally, emotionally and psychologically.

Three of my predecessors left because of the way he was maltreating them. He makes life difficult for every staff. With him, life can never be easy. No employer has every insulted me. Rather, I get rewarded for my diligence, devotion and commitment to duty. My former employers openly praise me. I have won several awards. I have never been sacked anywhere and no boss of mine has ever talked down on me. I've always being labelled a "Hard worker" throughout. Employers say I'm "Humble" , extremely humble.
The issue now is, all the abuses are beginning to get to me. My self-esteem is ebbing away. I feel useless. I have never imagined an employer saying all these to me because right from time, I've always gotten positive reviews from people. Humility and hardwork have always being characteristics of me any day anytime.
My challenge is, if I leave here now, how do I get a new job to survive? I don't have who I can lean on in time of despair. I have lots of bills to pay. And if I choose to stay, how do I cope? Everyday I'm buying food, spending every dime on food because we are not fed here. My health. I don't sleep. I've emaciated so badly due to lack of rest and sleep. All my life, I spend it here. I'm trapped. I don't mind earlier 40% of what I currently earn here elsewhere as long as my sanity and peace can be guaranteed

Pls note that before I assumed duty, our agreement was that I would resume work at 5pm and close the next morning. Off day was Tuesdays as agreed. But upon assumption of Duty, this man instantly started bombarding me with tasks such that I couldn't leave. He has honored that agreement. Every time, my attention was always needed. One day, I quickly rushed home to get something, immediately I got home, he began to call me to return to the hotel. He has no manager and has never had. I'm the one who does the job of a manager and supervisor, yet I'm never appreciated. I'm the only staff who never goes OFF for one day. This man yells at me . Insults me even in the presence of my subordinates.

IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO ME, KNOW THAT LIFE ROBBED ME. I'M NOT COMPELLED TO WORK HERE. I AM NOT CHAINED TO CONTINUE TO WORK HERE. BUT I AM LIMITED.

Below is a photo evidence of the Bookings I've received this month. If there's no further Booking till month end, 16k will be deducted from my salary. It's really pathetic

Going by your ordeal, can you squeeze out time to look for jobs elsewhere and attend to interviews when called? Because that’s what is paramount now.
I understand your plight but you need to find a way out of that place.
I pray you get something better soon.
Thanks so much for your kind words Sir.
Staying here can NEVER afford me time to look for a new job or even attend interviews if I'm called upon. I don't have off days, and I don't close. I even have to squeeze out time to have my bathe and even eat. It's that bad. I can't remember the last time I visited my own house which I'm paying rent for. I'm so engrossed in the job that I hardly think about myself or my family. Sometimes I forget I even have siblings

It is always the fear of the unknown that makes us not to take that leap of faith. You fear getting broke if you resign from that job, but then you are no better than a jobless fellow who has his mental health intact.

You are not the problem if 5 persons have come and gone. You sef will go as you don come. A time will come that if you continue to work in such a toxic environment, you will lose your sanity, your self worth and when he eventually sacks you, which is a matter of time, you cannot get another job elsewhere because he has already messed up your psyche.

Before you started working there, you’ve always had food to eat, even if it was once a day. What makes you think you cannot put food on your table if you quit that slavery you call a job? It is the jobs that we look down on that actually pays us more. Somebody working in a a car wash, or a POS operator has more time and money to himself than you working for that slave master.

Gather whatever he pays you by month end and leave that place ASAP. The earlier you start planning your exit, the better for you.

Making you do all of those things you listed is a deliberate attempt by your boss to keep you stuck there, without any time for you to look for opportunities elsewhere. It will be extremely difficult to get another job while you are still there. When will you submit your CV, what time will you squeeze out and go for interviews when called for one? Don’t wait for when you will get another job before you quit, it won’t happen.
If you are in the midst of a chore and you get an alert confirming salary payment, just leave whatever you are doing and leave ASAP.
Even if you are mixing flour, or tying chin chin, or a pot of rice is on fire, and the alert enters, don’t spend any minute longer there.
Pack your kaya and disengage.

You should have at least a relative or a friend that you can put up with for at least a month before you get something else, even if it’s an informal one.

On the other hand, I wonder why you didn’t want to mention the name of this company. Why are you protecting the image of the man and company that wants to take your life?
Maybe you are waiting for when you exit the company before you do the needful. I understand
You people should stop hiding their identity, with all the things they make you go through.
Go to X, call them out. Let the online community talk about them.
If I quit now without getting a new job, how am I going to survive?
That's my greatest worry
