emmanuelewumi: People own shares through proxies, the best bet is to grow organically although it is very slow and then maintain 51% ownership of the company.
Will you rather own 7% of a $1 billion Company or 65% of a $100 million company.
The $1 billion achieved the feat in 5 years, while the $100 million company achieved the feat in 10 years.
If founders of GTB and Zenith Bank wanted to have 51% ownership of the banks, the banks won't be make profit of N200 billion in 2020, probably they will be making N10 billion or thereabout 65% of 100m and I go grow am over time |

That's the disadvantage of going public. That's the major mistake someone who is trying to prevent this can make. You don't need to go public to grow your business. |

jimcaddy: He might be fired from the Board, but not totally from the company, especially if he has a controlling stake in the business. Depends on what was agreed when the investors came to invest. Controlling stake and voting shares is the key. Once you're in control of this, na you go still dey call the shots even in an unofficial capacity |

ThierryJay: What if no individual shareholder owns more than 20% equity? In such case, the highest shareholder will not have controlling votes and can be voted out by other shareholders or the BOD if he holds an executive function in the company. This is another clause that is making sense No single investor can own more thAn 15-20 percent equity |

Kandeed: our main focus was to Endsars which it did ended so would you say the last protest wasn't a success?? It was a success as unto endsars As unto other things, it wasn't. And then, there was the breakdown of law and order. If you ask me, are the youths and Nigerians I'm general really ready to brace up for good governance and good citizenship? The question is no Not to mention the psychopathic elites holding the country with iron fist Then you have a horrible Constitution, electoral and political process Well, The first step is youths uniting against 2023 (if there'll be election sef) And hopefully, work things out from there (that's if the devil's oppressing the country can somehow die on or before then) |

HallaDaTruth: its not always the case. Read about the rothchilds, all their companies have been in their bloodlines for years. It all started with one man. Never sell shares. How will i hustle and finally blow. Then one employee that came one day to my office to beg for a job with his cv in hand now fire me one day. I won't be stupid enough to make that mistake. I don't mind growing the company into a big one with time. The story of arik air today is a reason i will never sell even 1% of my shares. Leave bros. As if Glo is on stock exchange. Some of the largest companies in Nigeria arent even listed on the stock exchange. |

Nellsworld: What i learnt in company organization is when going public, try to buy ur shares back using either ur wife and kids, so that you can have a controlling power, cos family will always back you, or if you want to step aside, you can give ur shares to ur son or daughter or wife to have the controlling shares If I decide to start a company, I'm not going public. At least 60% controlling shares in all categories. No less. Hold majority (if not all) of the voting shares (I must find out how to do this one) buy back as many shares as possible. Put your trusted boys as Md and on the board of directors hold more shares than the investors/shareholders Make I see the good for nothing shareholder Wey wan talk rubbish I go sack am join |
Investment › Re: Can The Board Of Directors Fire The Owner Of A Company? by phazotron(m): 8:39pm On Jun 06, 2021 |
bet9ja: It is possible if you own 49.9% of the company shares. However, sometimes, you may loose more shares due to the tension or zeal to attract infectors during the first round seeding stage.
For instance, imagine a group of people offering your company a million dollars for a share of 50% due to the company potentials. Meanwhile, you have already sold 30% to a friend for N500,000 at the early stage of the company. Now you are left with 70%.
This mean, you own 70%, your friend own 30% before the angel investors came in, hence the angel investors will own 35% while you also own 35% after the million dollar. When it is time for decision making, the investors and your friend can cooperate to unseat you. Hence, it's not a matter of owning a company and making the decision, it's a matter of accountability and responsibility.
Do you know that Jack -The owner of Alibaba currently own less than 5% of alibaba share which is valued in billion dollars. Best strategy na to buy back the shares from the investors Buy them out of the company or buy most of their shares back |

Havertz10: If you want full ownership then don't seek outside investment
These days, you can't build a company without outside investment You can limit the amount of ownership the investors have. You can take control of the company by buying back their shares Although that one na big money u go need do am Just make sure you hold majority shareholding to surpass those of the investors. That way, you're always in control, even if you're not the ceo and them no go fit make decisions without you |

beautyhd: It's possible if the collective shares of the directors are up to 60 percent.
In this case he is removed from the position and decision making powers taken from him but somehow still retained as the founder of the company. Best strategy is to retain majority voting shares and other type of shares. Any share adjustment will come from the remaining 40% Na voting shares dem dey use make decisions That way, even if one sacked as CEO, you're still the owner of the company and still have mouth In decision making. Something similar happened to Uber founder. Was ceo but got sacked by the board Baba now sits on board of directors. |
