Leaders of Dibi Ijaw communities,Ogbinbiri
Egbema clan in Warri North local government
area in Delta State have condemned the incessant
attack on oil facilities in their domain especially
the recent June 1 blowing up of Chevron oil wells
RMP 23 and RMP 24.
This is contained in a statement made available to
newsmen by the Dibi Ijaw communities Ogbinbiri
Egbema clan chairman Mr. Ebi Eyenmi, Mr
Darlington Lelekumor and others. They stated
that the act believed to be perpetuated by the
Nigerian Delta Avengers is totally unacceptable to
the people of the clan.
While condemning the nefarious activities of the
Niger Delta Avengers embarking on destruction
of oil facilities and wreaking havoc on the region's
environment the leaders noted that the RMP 23
and RMP 24 are Chevron's swamp highest
producing wells.
Mr Ebi Eyenmi, Mr Darlington Lelekumor and
others said the actions of the Avengers were not
justifiable as it has resulted in total ecological
devastation of the area.
The leaders disclosed that the people of Dibi Ijaw
communities, Ogbinbiri Egbema clan now live in
fear and also face untold hardship as their only
means of livelihood, which is fishing and farming
have been totally destroyed by oil spills
emanating from the activities of the said Niger
Delta Avengers.
They appealed to the state and federal
government as well as relevant authorities to
come to their aid and help in the clean up of the
area as well as secure lives and property.
They further advised the Niger Delta Avengers to
explore consultation, negotiation and dialogue
during misunderstanding with authorities and
companies rather than resort to violence.
Mr Eyenmi, Mr Lelekumor and others
emphasised that the people of Dibi ijaw
communities, Ogbinbiri Egbema clan are peace
loving and law abiding citizens.
It would be recalled that the Niger Delta Avengers
in the past few weeks have consistently blown up
oil facilities in the Niger Delta region, while the
federal government has also set up security
operatives to the area to checkmate the illegal
bombing of oil facilities in the region. |
ABUJA- PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari said
Friday that his government was resolute in its
commitment and efforts at rescuing all the
missing Chibok Girls, just as he vowed to crush
the Boko Haram terrorists.
According to him, he would ensure that no
Nigerian was put through the brutality of
abduction, violence in whatever form or forced
marriage, even as he challenged all stakeholders
to rise up and take a decisive action to stem what
he termed, the unacceptable cases of violence
and intimidation against Nigeria children.
Speaking in Abuja to mark 2016 National
Children's Day Celebration, President Buhari said,
"Challenges posed by the total breakdown of
societal values and the current unrestricted social
media vices, which therefore, calls for an urgent
need for all stakeholders to put all hands on deck
in making conscious efforts at raising awareness
of parents, family, communities at all levels, on
the critical role of protecting the children against
all forms of violence, abuse and exploitation
including abduction of children, forced and early
marriage.
"As I said when I received Amina Ali Nkeki, the
rescued Chibok girl, our determination and
commitment to the protection of our Children is
unshaken, this Government is resolute in our
efforts at rescuing all the missing Chibok Girls,
the recent rescue of Amina Ali Nkeki and Sarah
Luka by our gallant Soldiers and the Civilian JTF is
a testimony to our unwavering resolve at
defeating Boko Haram terrorists. No Nigerian
should be put through the brutality of abduction,
violence in whatever form or forced marriage.
Every girl has a right to education and their
choice of life.
"Government is committed to promoting and
protecting Rights of every citizen including
Children. This is because it is our primary
responsibility as enshrined in the 1999
Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
and the Child Rights Act 2007. |
Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, Friday, scoffed at the
Nigerian Government for allegedly failing to cater
for children of Niger Delta, promising to provide
the people opportunities that government failed
to offer them.
Its spokesperson, Col Mudoch Agbinibo, in a
statement wishing Niger Delta children a happy
Children’s Day, said: “Childhood is an enchanting
vista, an endless fun a joyful classroom an
experience era of imagination and hope. The
children of the Niger Delta region are missing by
deliberate policies of every successive Nigeria
Government.”
“If you plant honesty, you will reap trust, if you
plant goodness, you will reap friendship, if you
plant humility, you will reap greatness. Childhood
means unlimited opportunities for children.
“This is what the Nigeria government has refused
to give you, the children of the Niger Delta. But,
what they have refused to give to you is what we
(Niger Delta Avengers) are promising you,” the
group asserted. |
