Zionbel:
Stop lying!!!
The January 15th 1966 coup was led by Majors Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu, Emmanuel Ifeajuna, Timothy Onwuategwu, Chris Anufuro and Wale Ademoyega (the only non Igbo). All them killed except Major Wale Ademoyega.

Virtually everyone killed are from other tribes except Arthur Unegbe (quarter master general in charge of amour) who was killed because he refused to give them access to the amours.

Those killed are Tafawa Balewa, Ladoke Akintola, Ahmadu Bello and his wife Hafsah, Col Ademulegun and his 8th month old pregnant wife by Owuategwu, Chief Okotie Eboh, Brigadier Maimalari, Lt-Col Pam, Lt-Col Kur Mohammed, etc are all none Igbos and their killers are Igbo officers.

Worse still the, these predominant Muslim politicians and officers were killed during Ramadan.

The coup was given an ETHNIC COLOURATION because while the coup was led by Igbo officers, it targeted political leaders of other tribes only and their officers.

For instance, after the coup, Nwafor Orizu an Igbo man who was the Senate President became the acting President while President Nnamdi Azikiwe was abroad.

Nwafor Orizu handed power to another Igbo man Maj-General Aguyi Ironsi who fired virtually all none Igbos in the central government, replaced with IGBOS and was worse still, he refused to sanction the coup plotters. The only two high profile non IGBOS were Brigadier Ogundipe (CGS) and Yakubu Gowon (CAS).

That was what led to the counter coup where he too was killed July 29th, 1966.

Now my question! Was Obafemi Awolowo released? It was General Yakubu Gowon who released him after he became Head of State after the death of Aguyi Ironsi.

The core Igbo officers who led the coup lied that they wanted to free Awolowo who was jailed by Azikiwe/Balewa Government for treason.

They obviously used Awolowo as pawn to gain support from other tribe's soldiers but their execution of the coup proved otherwise.
Read the attached from IBB who knows better and stop regurgitating the fairytale by junk journalists you were fed with. You were not there so stop talking authoritatively.

Go and read accounts of those who played a part from Ademoyega, Gbulie, OBJ, Ojukwu even Awolowo and now IBB and cure your anti Igbo propaganda filled head. You were brain washed to hate Igbos.

Did ever hear of Obienu in your long junk propaganda all these while? Did they ever mention to you that an Igbo man quashed the coup?

Why was Awolowo imprisoned for coups?
How come he was in prison yet knew about the coup (he confirmed in his book that the coup was meant to make him president)
How come those who imprisoned him got killed in the coup?

IBB's book is telling us how he tried to make a non-northerner win but the South-East didn't want it. Nzeribe the rich man started the ABN movement that clamoured for military rule to continue, while the South-East stood behind Northerner Tofa so that Abiola the man with the muslim-muslim ticket would not win. History unfortunately finds a way to sickly repeat itself.
Cowards. Tell us who took over from IBB in the name ofninterim govt, a fellow betrayer, Tell us how.many fellow betrayer from.your region worked with Abacha who MKO languished in jail?

See how all the cowards avoided attacking the North, they said SE made IBB a.military general and head of state annull election, shame on your cowardice

So why was Awolowo jailed for plotting coup in 1963? You should also ask him these question or was he not jailed for 10 whole years for coup plotting?

Did Awolowo even know that bloodthirsty demons?

How will Awolowo leave prison to lead the country when the Ceremonial president, the Senate President, the GOC at all Ibos and they are alive, don't you think he would have them murdered if all you are saying even makes any sense?

You can also ask why was a civilian Awolowo jailed for plotting a coup against Tafawa Balewa? Do civilians carryout coup?

Why didn't MKO that won in 1993 take over from IBB?

Tafawa Balewa, Ahmed Bello and Akintola Imprisoned Awolowo in 1962 for organising a coup against the young govt of Tafawa Balewa

Another coup to save Awolowo from prison was organised in 1966 and Ahmadu Bello, Tafawa Balewa and Akintola were killed. This coup was led by an Igbo man (Nzeogu) but also stopped by another Igbo man (Major Obienu)

Could Awolowo have been angry that an Igbo man foiled the 2nd coup?

But they turned around to call it Igbo coup and this led to Biafran war

Make of this whatever you wish

You questioned the reasonableness of a 25yeard old soldier to give an account of a coup. When Gowon was just 32 at the Head of state so stop twisting it.

He stated his age but you questioned his sense of judgement

MODs will intentionally avoid bringing to the frontpage the news of extracts of IBB's biography which clearly stated that the 1966 coup is not an Igbo coup as narrated by the Lagos Ibadan Parapo press and the idea was to free Awolowo from prison to come and take over governance.
Sometime in January when Reno Omokri (Wendell Simlin),Fani Kayode and all other paid agents where writing on the 1966 coup to score a cheap point and to make sure that Igbos and northerners are kept apart from each other against any anticipated alliances against the government of the day,the nairaland frontpage was constantly been bombarded with events of the 1966 coup and the narratives that it is an Igbo coup.
Now,IBB whom was active in the army at that time and was in the picture of what happened, have spoken out on it but the tribal MODs,just like the Lagos Ibadan Parapo media houses, will avoid the news like a Plague.
As.big as the news is, they will avoid it, that's how tribalistic they are.

Maybe we are expecting the biggest beneficiary ans propagandists of the so called "Igbo coup" to move it to front page.

If IBB had echoed their usual propaganda, you would have 30 different versions of it on front page

Oga ask yourself why IBB's narrative of Kaduna Nzwegu being more Hausa than Igbo couldn't rally a single Hausa Fulani Solider as a fellow coup plotters?!

The picture you are not seeing is the BETRAYAL if truey the North, the Hausas actually accepted him as one of theirs but he still went ahead to shed the blood of their most beloved ones they hold in highest esteem in cold blood without being able to convince a single ORIGINAL Hausa/Fulani Solider to join him in the Coup to murder his own kinsmen while sparing Igbo elders.

If it wasn't an Igbo coup the counter coup would have had Igbos as participants and not mainly a Northern extraction.

It is because it was a Igbo coup that didn't go well at the end that is the reason why we had an aftermath called BIAFRAN WAR. It is simple Logic and very straightforward.

IBB and manipulation. Why do you think he is called MARADONA?!
You highlighted betrayal in bold

But betrayal is when you carried out a coup at the expense of your life to release a man from prison.
The man turns around to strategise starvation of your people and 20 pound policy to annihilate your own people.

Those cowards who hates anything Igbo, who were not born during the coups, had no relative who was among the coup plotters, never lived in the barracks during the era will still argue to high heavens.

The only source of joy in their igbophoc hate is to continue the tales by moonlight their parents and propagandists drummed into their ears.

We are talking about annulment and you are talking about votes. Who were the principal characters in the efforts to see that the election did not hold? Who did the forces against the election use?

Arthur Nzeribe (ABN) and Clement Akpamgbo (Att-Gen) The judge who gave the midnight ruling Justice Ikpeme had worked in Clement Akpamgbo's chambers. These were the troika supported by Abacha that provided the foundation for the annulment of the 1993 election.

This is our history. These are facts. The blood of those that died during this period demands that history should not be twisted.

You can disavow these three people but you cannot say that they did not do what they did.

I am sorry but I won't continue this. IBB's book is there. There are also very useful extracts from the book on NL. Maybe you should read them.

We don't have to like our history, but we shouldn't be revising it. Yes there were noble men from across Nigeria who stood for democracy across all the regions but regarding the troika - history is history. We have to accept and learn it's lessons.
Who are the "we"? Check the title of the thread?

SE gave Abiola 740k votes and gave Tofa 790k votes even though an Igbo was a VP to Tofa but ingrate like you will open your mouth wide to talk trash. You mentioned 3 names supporting the govt but discounted hundreds of thousands of Igbos that supported Abiola, isn't that stupid to say? How about the Yorubas that supported the govt against Abiola? How about those Yoruba that accepted to serve in Abacha's govt, isnt that betrayal? How about Shonekan that shouldnhave handed over to Abiola? Have you ever voted an Igbo man in any election since you were born?

This is not the era of revising history

I think you should simply say which is correct that the SE will usually not vote for a Muslim- Muslim ticket - which is the case. If you want to start naming igbo, yoruba, hausa for and against Abiola - your point will fail. The AG who did not want the election to hold was Igbo, the ABN founder who got the ruling at night was an igbo man and the judge that ruled on the midnight ruling had worked in the chambers of the AG.

Let's not go there.

Just lets sit with the Christian ethos of the SE voter.

Safer ground for everyone.
And those thousands of votes from the Eastern States were by ghosts from your village right? They were not Igbos giving over 40% to Abiola and 57% in Anambra
