After months of speculations, the Ondo State governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko yesterday formally declared his intention to join the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP). In effect, Governor Mimiko has dumped the Labour Party(LP), a platform he has sustained as its only governor and national leader since 2006. The governor has already informed members of his cabinet and close political associates in a chain of meetings which took place yesterday at the government house Akure. Some of his aides were already on their way to their various local government areas to inform their constituents of the governor’s decision as at the time of this report. Before now, Governor Mimiko has had a close working relationship with the ruling PDP at the centre. His relationship with President Goodluck Jonathan has also been chummy even as he has worked to checkmate the influence of the opposition, All Progressives Congress (APC) in the south-west, the party’s major stronghold. This had sparked insinuations that he had dumped his party, a development that prompted denials by the governor and his close aides. Regardless, yesterday’s move by the governor came after series of consultations with the national leadership of both the LP and PDP, just as certain concessions were said to have been reached between Mimiko and top presidency officials. Efforts to reach the governor were not successful. But his commissioner for information, Kayode Akinmade confirmed the move. “We are close to moving to PDP because apart from the various pressures from within and outside the state, you should know that the governor has been in the forefront of Mr President’s re-election project in 2015. “He has demonstrated this severally without any apology to anyone because it is a noble course. However, if Mr Governor, as it were, needs to do more in this regard, the best thing for him to do is simple- he thinks he must be on the same boat with Mr President to actualise the 2015 re-election project if only to sustain the gains of the president’s administration. http://leadership.ng/news/381798/2015-finally-mimiko-dumps-lp-joins-pdp-2

hunter21: The truth is even with the rebase nigerias gdp is still underestimatedI'm with you on this. |
iwonbaoko: No we don't need a prophet to tell us that if we REBASE our economy from 300 to 500 and we were growing at 7% then the new growth index is more like 4% which is indeed abysmal and not likely to take us anywhere the 1000 markI don’t understand you. |
Abagworo: Stop spreading falsehood. It has been unanimously agreed that Aba has been completely neglected under Theodore Orji. One of TA Orji's greatest mistake is his inability to hire IMAGE DRY CLEANER like you. One can mistake a pig to a donkey after your world class dry cleaning. |
Idrismusty97: It is expected. With our population and our GDP growth rate(7.3% annual growth) we don't need a prophet to tell us. This GDP-ish is too stale! There are many countries with lesser GDP than ours but are more wealthy than us. They should find another way to measure the wealth of a Nation. Even when we clock a trillion it would still be reflected only on papers to the common man.The man predicted a possible future size of Nigeria economy in dollars, where you saw GDP in his report, I don't know. |
VOICEOFTHEMASES: Ma pix of the day. Hahhahahah dis guy for channels tv to dey form yakee yakee. HahhahahaNa wa for you. |
berem: Phockphockman, you no dey shame? Why do you keep showing us pictures from a 21inches concave substandard LG telebox?A latest 21inches LG flatron model tv is substandard for your eyes abi? Anyway, I've no immediate plan to upgrade because my already saturated super market Can not accommodate anything bigger. My sister, I'm not ashamed of my thirty thousand naira gadget. |
Longeria: I also pray to God to protect and preserve him on the throne till 2019. Amen.Amen o o. |
Nume Ekeghe with agency report A South African economist, Dr Martyn Davie yesterday predicted that the Nigerian economy will hit N1 trillion by 2025. Davies, who is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Frontier Advisory Limited, was quoted by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to have made the prediction at the opening of the 2014 Africa Hotel Investment Forum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Frontier Advisory is a leading research, strategy and advisory firm that specialised in Global emerging markets. He noted that the Nigeria’s economy being the largest on the African continent in terms of size is currently leading South Africa by 20 per cent. Davies, however, advised Nigeria to take advantage of her demography and invest to diversify its economy, which is largely dependent on oil export. “The political economy of Africa is increasingly becoming complex, making the Africa rising narrative no longer applicable as development needs, when viewed through multiple lenses,’’ he said. According to him, GDP was no longer a measure for growth, saying growth had become complex comprising of diversification and quality not just quantity. Davies insisted that both government and the private sector must invest heavily in basic infrastructure and manufacturing to hasten industrialisation, and sustain its growth among emerging economies. The expert also canvassed for economic friendly legislation to attract investments given the advantage of population of young persons and markets. Besides, he urged African countries to address the security challenges that would attract Direct Foreign Investments (DFI) and speed up growth. Davies also expressed concern over the slow pace of the continent’s economy growth saddled by fragmented markets due to cultural and language barriers among nations. He said Ethiopia and Kenya would also hit 100 billion dollar benchmark between2025 and 2027, given their pace of growth in the East African region. According to NAN, no fewer than 500 hotel operators, managers and developers as well as government officials from 24 countries, including Nigeria, are attending the conference. Nigeria was recently ranked far ahead of its peers on the continent based on the strength of the country’s macroeconomic indicators. A Lagos-based research and financial advisory firm, Renaissance Capital (RenCap) had highlighted the country’s improving external position (9 to 10 months of import cover) and a small fiscal deficit (1 to 2 per cent of GDP), as major factors driving its macroeconomic growth. Nigeria, in April this year, rebased its gross domestic product (GDP), which saw estimates hitting $509.9 billion. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/-nigerian-economy-to-hit-1tn-by-2025-/190312/ |

Who released you? Anyway, go and sin no more. |
Longeria: Apart from Owerri, list other places he has built such schools, last I checked, Imo State has 27 local governments, out of which owerri only boast of 1 or 2 local governments. My brother, see the Okorocha’s pre-cast school building outside owerri city. https://www.nairaland.com/1921479/photo-news-one-newly-refurbished

SLIDEwaxie: stop stalking me. A glance into my posts, u'll knw I dnt support PDP, and I'm a card-carrier APC member, but I dnt support blindly!God bless you for this, Supporters of Imo state APC in nairaland, led by berem and Abagworo / abagoro are passionately blind of the annihilation of Imo State by Okorocha. This man has borrowed more than we can pay in 30 years. The so called free education is being funded by a special deduction from Imo workers, so called new school are federal government projects. We're tired of this grand deception. Okorocha has killed APC in Igboland. |
abagoro: That is why I insist Okorocha is by far the best Governor. Nobody comes close. Apart from free education which when calculated consumes a large chunk from State's allocation, he is constructing so many roads at the same time and bringing innovations to governance like never before. The people on ground in Imo State are ready to fight to death to retain him in 2015 while some paid puppets are busy lying and showing fake pictures as well as sharing false information because they believe what Okorocha has done is a miracle.Intelligent "MUGU", this your OUT OF POINT is unnecessary. Please go to the source and eat the "NKWOBI". Okorocha sold/leased Adapalm for over 3 billion naira. He used his mouth, on several occasions to promise Imolites that he use the money to build school in every electoral wards in the state. When such schools started to sprout out in some parts of the state, especially in Owerri, our capital city, I, along with other Imo citizens was happy. During last GOOD GOVERNANCE TOUR, by Labaran Maku and others, the projects was inspected along with other federal government projects. After then, Okorocha continued to boast with the schools as part of his achievements to the surprise and anger of the Presidency, the original owner of the project. Today, it has been marked with UBE inscriptions without any statement contrary state from Imo State Government despite pressure from Imolites. The question now is, WHERE ARE THE SCHOOLS OKOROCHA BUILT WITH 3 BILLION NAIRA HE GOT FROM THE SALE OF ADAPALM. |
eaglechild: Hmmm!Don't mind her. |

profjustine458: ^^^It's a pity Rochas doesn't have the kind ofYour signature suggest you're not at home, so no need arguing with you. |
dazey: Rochas must go their is no place for him to hideLet him bring out the 3 billion naira first. |
mperoakeem: *in gej tone* no money is missing.,This is not a matter of missing money, but a stolen money. How can a governor take credit for federal government projects just to cover his loot. What a progressive looting. |
ikweremilitant: rochas aaaa, rochas aaa, rochas will kill imo state o,rochas wil kill imo state ooo... Rochas diris God o, diris God o,diris God oooThe situation is terrible, it may interest you to know that only Imo State under Okorocha is the only state banned by Central Bank of nigeria not to take further loan. In fact, it will take Imo people 30 years repay the loans he has already. Even though I hate Sanusi, I hail him for saving stealing hands of Okorocha. |
Majority of Imolites who spoke to Trumpeta especially civil servants at the state secretariat on Port Harcourt road opined that the inscription of UBE on the Roche-type school projects has rubbished Okorocha’s claim of using Adapalm money to finance the projects. The workers demanded for further explanation on how much was realized and how it was spent if the governor deserves moral right to speak to Ndi Imo on his most cherished free education. They however added that Ohakim’s claim of leaving billions of naira in office which Okorocha government inherited is a fact after all. Imo workers expressed regret that while there are deductions from their monthly salaries to prosecute the free education, the governor keeps claiming that the sale of Adapalm to Roche for a number of years yielded dividend used in bankrolling free education including the remnants of the Bond Ohakim said he left in Imo Coffers. http://www.imotrumpeta.com/?p=12848 |
The recent discovery by residents of Imo State that the much acclaimed 365 prototype schools being built across the state by the Owelle Rochas Okorocha government have Universal Basic Education, UBE inscription on them has raised uproar and doubt about the earlier statements of the governor concerning the Rescue Mission project. Governor Okorocha has not ceased to publicly announce and inform Imolites that the privatization of state-owned down stream sector and multi million naira Adapalm oil settlement to an Irish company named Roche has yielded enormous dividends to the state. According to Okorocha who spoke during several addresses to the people especially annual budget presentations reportedly claimed that Imo state government realized the sum of N3bn from concession of Adapalm Further details however from the verbal claims of the governor indicated that the amount was being used for the construction of Roche-type of classroom blocks in each of the 306 INEC wards in Imo state. The fashionable Roche-type of Classroom is a pre-cast building government sited on roads for public eyes. Even as the process of selling Adapalm public firm was shrouded in secrecy with suspected under-the-table-practices, until Gov Okorocha opened up. While Roche undertook the building of the classy city schools on Whetheral Road formerly known as Township Primary School, other school projects started across the state still remain unfinished. However, midway the Roche-type precast school blocks stopped and gave way to normal building handled by private contractors. The change of guard in handling of the projects and differences sent alarming signals about the sincerely of the Okorocha’s Rescue Government. As residents of the state were confused about the change of guard handling the school projects, indications that state governments’ claim of building the school blocks from Roche payment through leasing Adapalm could be a ruse manifested when UBE inscriptions appeared on the walls of the pre-cast buildings scattered across the state. Our correspondents who engaged in monitoring of the projects noted the trademark of UBE on the walls thereby doubting the earlier claims of governor Okorocha who told Imolites that the cost of the building was borne by the money realized from allowing Roche cater for Adapalm. Trumpeta learnt that the UBE trademark has to be stamped by the state government to avoid sanctions from the federal government education body who threatened to withdraw from related fundings the state had enjoyed earlier. It was even gathered that agents of the government responsible for handling the project were at the verge of being arrested by anti-graft bodies over mismanagement of UBEC funds made available to the state since Okorocha came into power. The outgoing Commissioner of Finance of Imo state, Deacon Chike Okafor who has been a regular visitor to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC office, Abuja to explain issues concerning Imo financial situation once told newsman that part of the monies the Ohakim administration left in office was channeled into free education. It would be recalled that Ohakim had publicly disclosed that he left not less than N3bn in the state’s UBEC treasurer. The recent discovery that the acclaimed Roche-type pre cast project is UBEC money from federal government and not proceeds from the privatization has elicited reaction from the general public. A teacher in one of the public primary schools who refused to disclose his identity observed that the latest development is in contrast with the claims of the governor adding that Okorocha should publicly tell Imolites where the money he claimed to have been realized from Adapalm sale went to when UBEC, a federal government agency has claimed ownership. Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) said on Friday that it had collected more than 20 million signatures endorsing the candidacy of President Goodluck Jonathan for 2015 election. TAN’s Director of Communication and Strategy, Dr. Udenta O Udenta, announced this on Friday during a chat with journalists in Abuja. Udenta said that the group was committed to the realisation of President Jonathan’s second term ambition, adding that more signatures would be collected from the North West states. He also announced the postponement of the group’s grand finale rally in Abuja which was scheduled to hold on September 30 to a later date. Udenta, who claimed that the group was being funded by private individuals, insisted that no government funds is linked to the group. According to him, the group has only borrowed from the practices in the Western world, especially the United States of America, where groups to raise funds for their candidates. He stated that the group had not broken any electoral law as it was only sensitising Nigerians at home and abroad to the good works done by Jonathan. He stated that no group had ever done what TAN had done by sensitising Nigerians about the achievements of a president. He also said that TAN had refrained from attacking or antagonising anybody, adding that the group was happy that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has now endorsed the President. According to him, TAN is following the footsteps of the different hierarchies of the PDP to endorse Jonathan. While speaking on the various plans by the group, Udenta said that TAN would soon diversify into waste collection tagged ‘Waste to Wealth’, which he said would ensure that Nigerians are paid for submitting their refuse to a recycling company. He said that the ‘Waste to Wealth’ programme would provide over one million jobs in the next four years. http://www.tribune.com.ng/news/news-headlines/item/17138-2015-we-ve-collected-20-million-signatures-for-jonathan-tan/17138-2015-we-ve-collected-20-million-signatures-for-jonathan-tan |
