The death was confirmed on Friday by renowned movie director and producer James Abinibi, who announced the development in an official statement shared on the Instagram page of RockBottom Flix.

PoliticsTragedy In Lagos As 103-year-old Woman Dies In Oyingbo Fire Outbreak by phosky(op): 8:30am On Jan 17
A 103-year-old woman has lost her life following a fire outbreak at a residential building in the Oyingbo area of Lagos State on Friday.

The incident occurred at No. 8, Bola Street, off Kadara Street, where a fire reportedly started in one of the rooms before spreading rapidly to other sections of the building. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Confirming the incident, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the agency received a distress call via the 767/112 toll-free emergency lines at about 11:43 a.m.

According to him, the call triggered the immediate activation of the state’s emergency response plan from LASEMA’s Onipanu Base.

Oke-Osanyintolu disclosed that LASEMA’s Response Team arrived at the scene by 12:13 p.m., where they met a residential bungalow with two attached shops already engulfed in flames.

He said the inferno affected eight room-and-parlour apartments, one mini-flat, one self-contained apartment, and six shops, destroying several household items and properties estimated to be worth millions of naira.

“The fire affected multiple residential units and commercial shops before it was brought under control,” he stated.

As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire remains unknown, according to the emergency agency.

Oke-Osanyintolu said emergency responders immediately carried out a risk assessment, cordoned off the affected area, and implemented necessary safety measures to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring buildings.

The fire was eventually extinguished, while the body of the deceased woman was recovered and handed over to her family.

The LASEMA boss commended the swift and coordinated response of all first responders involved in the operation, including officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Nigeria Police Force, the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), and officials of the Lagos Mainland Local Government.

He noted that their collaboration ensured the incident was handled safely and prevented further loss of lives.

CelebritiesSampling Fela Doesn’t Make You Fela – Seun Kuti Warns Afrobeats Artistes by phosky(op): 8:17am On Jan 17
Grammy-nominated singer and activist Seun Kuti has cautioned Afrobeats artistes against likening themselves to his late father, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, the legendary pioneer of Afrobeat music. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Seun expressed displeasure over a growing trend in the Nigerian music industry where some Afrobeats musicians describe themselves as the “new Fela” simply because they sample his father’s songs or draw inspiration from his sound.

While clarifying that he has no objection to artistes sampling Fela’s music, Seun stressed that such creative choices do not place anyone on the same pedestal as the Afrobeat icon.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Hits Don’t Lie podcast, Seun Kuti criticised what he described as misguided comparisons between contemporary Afrobeats stars and his father.

“A few people have done good samples of Fela’s music. But the only critique that I have is that sampling Fela doesn’t make you Fela,” he said.

“People should stop saying that they are my dad. That is crazy. It’s crazy when people say they are the ‘new Fela.’ Where is the ‘new Bob Marley’? It’s only in Nigeria you hear such things. We do wild stuff here. People are wild.”

According to Seun, Fela’s legacy goes far beyond music, noting that his father was a cultural revolutionary, political activist, and fearless critic of injustice, whose impact cannot be

Over the years, several Afrobeats stars, including Wizkid and Burna Boy, have been compared to Fela due to their frequent use of Afrobeat samples and socially conscious themes.

Street-hop artistes such as Bella Shmurda and Portable have also publicly referred to themselves as the “new Fela,” further fuelling debates around legacy, originality, and cultural responsibility.

The conversation gained renewed attention late last year after rapper Olamide described Wizkid as “the greatest Afrobeats artiste after Fela,” a statement that sparked mixed reactions across social media.

Seun Kuti’s remarks have reignited discussions on the importance of respecting musical history and cultural context, while encouraging artistes to build their own identities rather than adopting comparisons tied to legendary figures.

RomanceWomen Cheat More, They Are Just More Discreet” — Toke Makinwa Sparks Debate by phosky(op): 7:09am On Dec 28, 2025
Nigerian media personality and entrepreneur Toke Makinwa has ignited widespread debate on social media after sharing her candid views on infidelity and gender dynamics.

The outspoken broadcaster made the remarks during a recent episode of her podcast, Toke Moments, where she discussed cheating, relationships, and societal double standards surrounding men and women. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

According to Makinwa, cheating is often unfairly framed as a predominantly male behavior, while women are wrongly portrayed as incapable of infidelity. She argued that women may even find it easier to cheat than men but are generally more discreet about it.

While clarifying that she does not promote cheating, the media personality explained that her views are shaped by maturity and real-life observations.

In her words, she said that cheating is not necessarily a dealbreaker for her, but it comes with conditions. She emphasized that infidelity should not be viewed as a male-only trait, stressing that women also have opportunities and the capacity to cheat.

Makinwa further noted that men often invest money, time, and effort to cheat, whereas women are usually on the receiving end of attention, making it comparatively easier for them. However, she added that many women choose not to cheat, not because they cannot, but because of personal discipline and strength.

She also pointed out that workplace relationships and emotional connections often blur boundaries, jokingly referencing the idea of “work boyfriends” as an example of how infidelity can quietly develop.

According to her, women who cheat are often more skilled at hiding it, which is why such cases are less publicly exposed.

As expected, Toke Makinwa’s statements have continued to generate mixed reactions online. While some listeners agreed with her perspective and praised her honesty, others criticized her remarks as controversial and unnecessary.

Regardless of opinion, the discussion has once again placed the spotlight on conversations around trust, fidelity, and gender expectations in modern relationships.

Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr & Omah Lay Dominate 2026 Grammy Nominations — Full List

Nigeria’s Afrobeats superstars, Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, and Omah Lay, have been nominated for the 2026 Grammy Awards, underscoring the continued global rise of the country’s vibrant music industry.

The full list, released by the Recording Academy on Friday evening, places Nigerian acts at the forefront of the international music scene, with multiple nominations across key categories including Best African Music Performance and Best Global Music Album. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

In the Best African Music Performance category, Nigerian artists took four of the five nomination slots, a testament to Afrobeats’ dominance on the world stage. The nominees include “Love” by Burna Boy, “With You” by Davido and Omah Lay, “Hope & Love” by Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin, “Gimme Dat” by Ayra Starr and Wizkid, and “PUSH 2 START” by Tyla.

Davido and Omah Lay’s soulful collaboration, “With You,” earned the pair their first joint Grammy nomination. The track, which blends highlife-inspired percussion with melodic Afro-fusion elements, has been widely praised for its emotional delivery and authentic storytelling. Similarly, Ayra Starr and Wizkid made the list with “Gimme Dat,” a rhythmic anthem that has dominated both local and international airwaves.

Burna Boy, who previously won a Grammy Award, extended his streak with a nomination in the Best Global Music Album category for his project “No Sign of Weakness.” The album will contend against top international entries such as “Sounds of Kumbha” by Siddhant Bhatia, “Éclairer le Monde: Light the World” by Youssou N’Dour, “Mind Explosion (50th Anniversary Tour Live)” by Shakti, “Chapter III: We Return to Light” by Anoushka Shankar featuring Alam Khan and Sarathy Korwar, and “Caetano e Bethânia Ao Vivo” by Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia.

If Burna Boy clinches the award, it would mark his second Grammy win, further consolidating his status as one of Africa’s most accomplished musical exports.

The 2026 nominations highlight Afrobeats’ transformation from a continental sound to a dominant global genre. In the last five years, Nigerian artists have consistently broken barriers, topping international charts and collaborating with A-list global performers. Davido’s “Timeless” album, Wizkid’s “More Love, Less Ego,” and Ayra Starr’s breakout success continue to showcase the genre’s versatility and global appeal.

According to music analysts, the Grammys’ recognition of multiple Nigerian acts reflects a major shift in the global music landscape, positioning Lagos as one of the new capitals of world sound.

Following the announcement, social media platforms erupted in celebration as fans congratulated their favorite stars. On X (formerly Twitter), hashtags such as #DavidoForGrammy, #BurnaBoy, and #AyraStarr trended globally, while fans hailed the moment as a historic win for African music. Many lauded the nominations as a collective victory for Nigeria’s creative industry, with some calling it proof that African sound has truly gone global.

The 2026 Grammy Awards ceremony is scheduled to hold at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, early next year. Industry observers predict a strong outing for Nigerian artists, with potential wins expected in both the Best African Music Performance and Global Music Album categories.

Entertainment journalist and critic Tunde Ogunleye described the nominations as “a clear validation of years of consistent effort and global cultural export by Nigerian artists.” He said: “This year’s nominations show that African music, particularly Nigerian Afrobeats, has crossed the threshold from trend to tradition. It’s now an established pillar of global pop culture.”

With five Nigerian stars earning Grammy nods in major categories, 2026 could mark one of the most defining moments in Africa’s music history. Whether through Burna Boy’s powerful artistry, Davido’s infectious energy, Wizkid’s global appeal, Ayra Starr’s youthful brilliance, or Omah Lay’s soulful voice, Nigeria continues to prove itself as the heartbeat of world music.

CelebritiesRita Daniels Alleges Arrest Warrant Amid Ongoing Family Fallout by phosky(op): 7:42am On Nov 08, 2025
The ongoing family feud between Nollywood actress Regina Daniels and her estranged husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, has taken a new and dramatic twist as the actress’s mother, Rita Daniels, accused the billionaire politician of ordering her arrest. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The controversy erupted on social media after Rita Daniels reportedly sent a direct message alleging that Ned Nwoko had “issued an arrest warrant” against her. The message, shared by Regina on Instagram, suggested that the warrant was expected to be carried out “on or before next Monday.”

The development follows mounting tension within the family, including the recent detention of Regina’s brother, Samuel Ojeogwu, popularly known as Sammy West. The incident has sparked nationwide debate about the intersection of celebrity, power, and justice in Nigeria.
Regina Daniels’ Brother in Detention

According to reports from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, Sammy West was arrested after a formal petition accused him and three others of criminal conspiracy, cyberbullying, trespass, and intimidation. Police sources claimed that he had ignored prior invitations for questioning, leading to a warrant for his arrest.

However, the Daniels family insists that Sammy’s detention is politically motivated — a ploy to pressure Regina into returning to her marriage with Ned Nwoko.

Rita Daniels alleged that her son had been denied bail, food, and access to legal representation. Social media posts from Regina’s elder brother, Sweezzy Daniels, further claimed that Sammy’s welfare in custody had been neglected, intensifying public sympathy for the family.
Regina’s Emotional Breakdown

Regina Daniels, known for her calm social media presence, broke down publicly this week. In a tearful video that has gone viral, the actress lamented feeling “powerless” and “mentally exhausted” amid the unfolding situation.

“I feel like I’m losing my mind… I can’t take it anymore,” she cried in the video, which has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times.

In another emotional statement, Regina appeared to suggest that she might “return” to her estranged marriage to secure her brother’s release.

“If that’s the only way, I’ll go back. Do whatever he says. I just want my brother to be free,” she said.

The post sparked concern among fans and colleagues who urged her to seek legal protection and psychological support instead of yielding to coercion.
Rita Daniels Reacts: ‘He Wants Me Arrested’

In what seems to be a deepening standoff, Rita Daniels claimed that Ned Nwoko had ordered her arrest. Although she did not specify the grounds for the alleged warrant, she expressed fear that the move was intended to silence her.

“Ned has issued an arrest warrant against me. I should be arrested on or before Monday,” she reportedly said in the leaked message.

This latest accusation adds to the growing list of grievances between both families. So far, Ned Nwoko has not issued an official response to the claims, though sources close to him insist that the senator has “remained focused on legal due process.”
Public Reaction and Human Rights Concerns

The incident has prompted responses from human rights advocates, who have called on authorities to avoid being drawn into personal and domestic disputes.

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) released a statement urging the police to ensure that the ongoing investigations are transparent and not politically influenced. The group also called for the immediate release of Sammy West pending proper trial procedures.

“Law enforcement must never become an instrument of personal vendetta,” HURIWA said.

Cultural Implications and Community Response

Beyond the legal drama, cultural undercurrents are also influencing the story. Reports suggest that members of Regina’s hometown community in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, have asked Ned Nwoko to formally accept the return of the bride price, symbolizing the final dissolution of the marriage.

In Igbo culture, refusing to accept the return of a bride price after a marital dispute is often seen as a way of holding on to authority over the woman — a gesture that has stirred outrage among traditional leaders and women’s groups.
What Lies Ahead

As of press time, neither the Nigerian Police Force nor Ned Nwoko’s representatives have confirmed any active warrant against Rita Daniels. Meanwhile, Regina remains visibly distressed online, pleading for her brother’s release and for peace within her family.

The situation underscores the broader issues of power imbalance, family politics, and women’s rights within the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Observers say this saga could either serve as a catalyst for reform in how celebrity disputes are handled or further expose the challenges of justice and gender dynamics in Nigeria’s elite circles.

EducationFrom Cleaner To Top Graduate: Nigerian Lady Stuns Many With 4.94 CGPA by phosky(op): 7:54am On Oct 24, 2025
From Cleaner to Top Graduate: Nigerian Lady Stuns Many with 4.94 CGPA and Inspiring Success Story

In a heartwarming story that has inspired thousands across Nigeria, a young lady who once worked as a cleaner has achieved an extraordinary academic milestone, graduating among the top three students in her department with a remarkable 4.94 CGPA.

Her journey from humble beginnings to academic excellence serves as a powerful reminder that dedication, hard work, and faith can overcome any social or financial barrier. The young woman, who has chosen to remain humble even in her success, took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share her remarkable transformation — one that has since gone viral and earned her widespread admiration. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
From Mockery to Motivation

According to her post, the young woman recounted how she was once mocked by a co-worker for proudly posting pictures of herself in her cleaner’s uniform. At the time, she worked as a cleaner to support herself through school, juggling long hours of labor with late-night study sessions.

Despite the ridicule, she remained determined to prove that no job is too small for someone with a dream. Rather than feel ashamed, she wore her uniform with pride, seeing her job as a stepping stone toward a better life.

In her now-viral tweet, she wrote:

Quoting this again to say a big thank you to all the amazing individuals who supported this post. I truly appreciate you all. I’m grateful to share that I finished with the 3rd best overall CGPA (4.943), just 0.001 behind the 2nd! I hope I made you all proud.
https://x.com/DatGirlAdun/status/1981267161483034877?t=z4RXODS5di4NwNg1Hdz-Fw&s=19

Her words radiated gratitude and humility, capturing the attention of Nigerians who celebrated her perseverance and strong sense of self-worth.
Academic Excellence Against the Odds

Achieving a 4.94 CGPA is no small feat, especially in a country where many students struggle with financial difficulties and limited access to educational resources. What makes her story even more remarkable is that she was able to balance work and study while maintaining excellence throughout her academic journey.

Friends and coursemates described her as disciplined, humble, and hardworking, noting that she often studied late into the night after completing her cleaning shifts. Her resilience paid off when she emerged as the third-best graduating student in her department, missing the second spot by a mere 0.001 points.

Her success stands as a powerful example of the transformative power of education, reminding many that intelligence and ambition are not defined by one’s job, background, or circumstances.
Social Media Reactions and National Inspiration

Shortly after sharing her success story, social media platforms were flooded with messages of congratulations and admiration. Many users on X, Instagram, and Facebook called her “a true definition of grace, grit, and growth.”

One user commented, “From cleaner to top of the class — this is the kind of story that restores faith in hard work.” Another wrote, “She turned mockery into motivation. We need more of this spirit in today’s youth.”

Several online communities have since used her story as a motivational example, encouraging students facing challenges to stay consistent and focused.
A Message of Hope and Resilience

Beyond academic achievement, her journey symbolizes hope for countless young Nigerians facing similar struggles. In a country where unemployment and financial hardship often force young people into menial jobs, her story redefines the narrative — showing that dignity lies not in the kind of job one holds, but in the determination to rise above challenges.

She has also become a voice for educational perseverance, urging others never to give up on their dreams regardless of the obstacles ahead. Her transformation from being mocked for wearing a cleaner’s uniform to being celebrated as a top scholar has become a beacon of inspiration across Nigeria and beyond.
Conclusion

The story of this young lady’s triumph is not just about academic brilliance — it’s about faith, humility, and endurance. Her 4.94 CGPA is more than a number; it represents years of sacrifice, resilience, and unshakable belief in a brighter future.

As she continues her journey, many Nigerians hope that her inspiring story will serve as a blueprint for others who dream of rising beyond their present circumstances. Indeed, she has proven that no background is too humble, and no dream is too big.

CrimeWoman Remanded In Ekiti For Pouring Hot Oil On Man During Dispute by phosky(op): 7:42am On Oct 24, 2025
In a disturbing case that has drawn public attention across Ekiti State, a 27-year-old woman identified as Ajirotutu Bosede has been ordered to be remanded at the Correctional Centre in Ado-Ekiti. The order came from the Chief Magistrate Court, following allegations that she poured hot red oil on a man, causing severe and life-threatening injuries. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

According to the prosecuting officer, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, the incident occurred on October 3, 2025, around 12:00 noon, at Matthew Street, Ado-Ekiti, in Ekiti State. The prosecutor narrated that the defendant, Ajirotutu Bosede, was involved in a heated disagreement with the victim, identified as Mr. Emmanuel Ogunleye, before resorting to a violent act.

Reports presented before the court indicate that Bosede intentionally poured boiling red oil on Ogunleye’s body during the altercation. The scalding oil reportedly caused grievous burns that left the victim in critical condition, prompting immediate medical attention.

Inspector Oriyomi emphasized that the assault was not only a violation of the victim’s bodily integrity but also a criminal act punishable under Ekiti State and Nigerian law.
Court Proceedings

During the court sitting, Inspector Oriyomi explained that the defendant’s behavior also constituted conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, as the violent act caused panic and unrest within the community.

Counsel to the defendant, Barrister Adedayo Awe, however, appealed to the court for bail on behalf of his client, arguing that she was a first-time offender and should be given the opportunity to prepare her defense outside custody.

The presiding Chief Magistrate, Mr. Abayomi Adeosun, after listening to both sides, denied the bail application and ruled that the defendant be remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre in Ado-Ekiti pending further hearing.

Justice Adeosun further ordered that the case be adjourned to November 21, 2025, for continuation of hearing, noting that the nature of the offense required careful review of all evidence presented before the court.
Community Reaction

The case has stirred strong emotions among residents of Ado-Ekiti and social media users, with many calling for justice for the victim. Some community members expressed shock over the incident, describing it as a reminder of the growing rate of domestic and community violence in the region.

Local women’s groups and rights advocates have also urged authorities to ensure a fair and speedy trial, emphasizing the importance of enforcing laws that protect citizens against acts of cruelty and violence.

Meanwhile, Mr. Emmanuel Ogunleye, the victim, is said to be recovering gradually at a medical facility where he is receiving treatment for his burns. Family members of the victim have pleaded for public prayers and support as he undergoes recovery.
Legal Context

Under Nigerian law, causing grievous harm with intent to injure or endanger life is a serious offense that can attract several years of imprisonment upon conviction. Such cases are typically handled under the Criminal Code Act, which condemns any act that deliberately inflicts physical harm on another person.

Legal experts note that cases involving use of hot substances or dangerous items in assault situations often lead to heightened penalties, especially when premeditation can be proven.
Conclusion

The remand order against Ajirotutu Bosede underscores the judiciary’s firm stance against violent crimes in Ekiti State. As the court reconvenes on November 21, 2025, all eyes will be on the proceedings to determine whether justice will be served for both the victim and the accused.

This case serves as a critical reminder of the need for conflict resolution and anger management education, as well as stronger community awareness to curb the rising tide of violent disputes across Nigeria.

PoliticsFayose Predicts Three More PDP Governors Will Soon Defect To APC by phosky(op): 7:35am On Oct 16, 2025
Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has stirred political discussions once again after revealing that three more governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are preparing to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) — a move that could further destabilize Nigeria’s leading opposition party. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Fayose made this revelation on Wednesday, October 15, during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme. His comments followed the recent defection of Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, to the APC, which sparked renewed debate about the PDP’s dwindling unity and influence.

“Let me tell you, there are three more governors that will leave soon. There will be five remaining. The five remaining, one of them will struggle to catch the ticket — and they all know that the ticket is an ordinary tissue paper,” Fayose stated.

‘The PDP Is Destroying Itself’ — Fayose Blames Internal Power Struggles

The outspoken former governor accused some sitting PDP governors of undermining the party from within, claiming that their hunger for control and dominance has weakened the opposition.

According to him, the same internal divisions that plagued the PDP during the 2023 general elections are still festering today, leaving the party vulnerable to collapse.

“They are largely killing the party because they want to control it. This is exactly what happened in 2023,” Fayose said.

He dismissed allegations that President Bola Tinubu or the ruling APC were behind the wave of defections, asserting that the crisis was self-inflicted.

“President Tinubu should not be blamed for PDP’s problems. The PDP is sick — and remains perpetually sick without a cure in view,” Fayose declared.

‘The People Who Killed the PDP Know Themselves’

Fayose didn’t mince words in assigning blame, insisting that those who brought the PDP to its knees are well aware of their roles.

“Those who killed the party know themselves. There is a difference between a former governor and a sitting governor,” he added, suggesting that current officeholders are the main architects of the PDP’s internal collapse.

The former governor, who remains a registered member of the PDP, made it clear that he has distanced himself from the party’s repair efforts, emphasizing that the current leadership must take full responsibility for the crisis.

“I am still in the PDP, but I am not part of those trying to fix it. The leadership must own its failure,” he stated.

Defections Continue to Shake PDP

Fayose’s remarks come amid rising concerns over the PDP’s shrinking political influence, following the defection of several governors — including those from Enugu, Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa States — to the APC.

Political observers say the trend could severely weaken the PDP’s chances ahead of the 2027 general elections, leaving the APC with an even stronger national grip.

Meanwhile, Fayose’s prediction has sparked mixed reactions among party loyalists and analysts. While some view his statement as a wake-up call to fix the opposition’s internal cracks, others believe it signals further disarray within the PDP ranks.

As 2027 draws closer, the once-dominant opposition party appears to be losing more ground, not just to external competition but to its own internal divisions and ambitions.

PoliticsTinubu's Controversial Pardon: A Nation's Trust At Stake by phosky(op): 10:08am On Oct 13, 2025
In a move that has sent shockwaves through Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu recently granted pardons to 175 individuals, including convicted drug offenders and fraudsters. This decision has ignited a fierce debate about the integrity of the nation’s justice system and the government’s commitment to fighting corruption and crime. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
Who Were the Beneficiaries?

Among the 175 individuals pardoned, several were convicted for serious offenses:

Drug Offenders: Nweke Francis Chibueze, serving a life sentence for cocaine trafficking, and Dr. Nwogu Peters, sentenced in 2013 for fraud, were among those granted clemency.

Fraudsters: Individuals such as Mrs. Anastasia Daniel Nwaobia, who had already served a sentence for fraud, and Barrister Hussaini Umar, sentenced in 2023 for a bribery case, were also among those pardoned.

Historical Figures: Posthumous pardons were granted to Nigerian nationalist Herbert Macaulay and Major General Mamman Vatsa, who was executed in 1986 over alleged treason.

Public Reactions: A Nation Divided

The pardons have elicited a range of reactions from various sectors of Nigerian society:

Criticism from Political Parties: The African Democratic Congress (ADC) condemned the pardons, describing them as “pathetic and a national disgrace.” They argued that the pardoning of drug traffickers and fraudsters undermines Nigeria’s anti-crime efforts and tarnishes its international reputation.

Support from the Presidency: Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga defended the pardons, stating that most beneficiaries had shown remorse and good conduct. He emphasized that the clemency was part of the government’s broader justice and human rights reform agenda.

Public Outcry: Social media platforms have been abuzz with discussions, with many Nigerians expressing outrage over the pardons. Critics argue that it sends a wrong message to the public, suggesting that serious crimes can be overlooked if one shows remorse.

The Broader Implications

This decision raises several critical questions about the direction of Nigeria’s justice system:

Erosion of Legal Precedents: Granting pardons to individuals convicted of serious crimes may set a dangerous precedent, potentially encouraging others to commit offenses with the hope of receiving clemency.

Public Trust in the Legal System: Such actions can erode public confidence in the legal system, leading to perceptions of favoritism and injustice.

International Reputation: The pardons could affect Nigeria’s standing on the global stage, especially concerning its commitment to combating drug trafficking and financial crimes.

A Call for Transparency and Accountability

While the intention behind the pardons may be to promote justice and rehabilitation, the lack of transparency in the selection process has raised concerns. For the public to regain trust, there needs to be a clear and open explanation of the criteria used for granting clemency and how these decisions align with the country’s legal and ethical standards.

PoliticsAfenifere Accuses APC Of Deception, Allegedly Using Foreign Fulanis To Destabili by phosky(op): 8:22am On Oct 09, 2025
Afenifere Accuses APC of Deception, Allegedly Using Foreign Fulanis to Destabilize Nigeria

Yoruba socio-cultural organization, Afenifere, has criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of manipulating Nigerians and using foreign elements to destabilize the country for political gain. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The comments were made by Oba Olaitan, leader of Afenifere, during an appearance on Channels TV on Tuesday, where he expressed concerns about national insecurity and the APC’s governance record.
APC Accused of Deception and Manipulation

Oba Olaitan alleged that the APC government has failed to make Nigerians feel safe, claiming that deception has become a core tool for the party to maintain power.

“Well, APC is good at what they know how to do, deceive people, manipulate people, conceal issues. That’s their job; they know how to do it,” he said.

He challenged Nigerians to reflect on their personal safety, asking pointedly:

“Do you feel safe where you are now? Going back home after work, do you feel safe?”

Allegations of Using Foreign Nationals

The Afenifere leader went further to allege that elements within the APC, including those linked to the previous administration, were willing to bring in foreign nationals — specifically Fulanis — to destabilize Nigeria in order to retain political control.

“The last administration before the present government, just because they wanted to rule this nation, had to go to the extent of importing foreign nationals, Fulanis to be precise, to come into the country and destroy the nation,” he stated.
“If they could not get power, they were prepared to destroy the nation. If anybody has that type of mind, what good can come out of it?”

Oba Olaitan’s remarks have reignited public debate about national security, political manipulation, and the role of external actors in Nigerian politics.

Foreign AffairsTunisian Man Sentenced To Death For Criticising President On Facebook by phosky(op): 6:41am On Oct 06, 2025
A Tunisian court has handed down a death sentence to 56-year-old Saber Chouchane for allegedly insulting President Kais Saied and threatening state security through Facebook posts.

The ruling, delivered by a court in Nabeul, has been described by human rights groups and his lawyer as “shocking and unprecedented,” igniting outrage across the country and on social media. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Chouchane, a day labourer with little formal education, was arrested in 2024 after repeatedly criticising President Saied online. His lawyer, Oussama Bouthalja, confirmed the sentence:

“The judge in the Nabeul court sentenced the man to death over Facebook posts. It is a shocking and unprecedented ruling.”

Poverty, oppression, and outrage

Chouchane’s brother, Jamal, said the family was devastated:

“We can’t believe it. We are a family suffering from poverty, and now oppression and injustice have been added to poverty.”

Tunisia has not carried out an execution in over 30 years, though courts occasionally hand down death sentences. An appeal has already been filed on Chouchane’s behalf.
Fear of silencing dissent

The ruling has raised fears of shrinking freedoms in Tunisia, where President Saied dissolved parliament in 2021 and has since ruled by decree. Opposition leaders and activists accuse him of jailing critics under the guise of national security.

Rights groups warn the sentence could escalate political tensions and set a dangerous precedent for freedom of expression in the country.

The case has now drawn international attention, with many urging Tunisia to uphold its moratorium on executions and protect the right to free speech.

FamilyCleric Warns Against DNA Tests For Paternity, Calls It Forbidden In Islam by phosky(op): 7:02am On Oct 02, 2025
Islamic Cleric Warns Against DNA Tests for Paternity, Calls It Forbidden in Islam

A prominent Islamic cleric, Dr. Sharafdeen Gbadebo, has cautioned Muslim couples against using DNA tests to determine paternity, declaring the practice forbidden under Islamic law. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Speaking in a recent lecture delivered in Yoruba, Dr. Gbadebo said Islam provides clear guidance on child paternity, making scientific tests unnecessary and un-Islamic.

“Why would you (Muslims) do DNA tests? Islam does not allow us to doubt the paternity of a child conceived by a legally married wife. Anybody who engages in adultery will be entitled to nothing,” he explained.

Lian: The Islamic Alternative

The cleric highlighted Lian, an Islamic procedure for resolving doubts over paternity. Under this process, both husband and wife take solemn oaths before God. If the husband swears four times that the child is not his, invoking divine punishment if he lies, and the wife swears four times that the child belongs to her husband, the husband permanently loses the right to claim the child and the marriage may be annulled.

Dr. Gbadebo stressed that DNA tests have no place in Islam, even in cases of suspected infidelity:

“Two people engage in sex out of wedlock, and the child is born. Is there any DNA test in Islam that would grant the man paternity? None. It is forbidden. That child is always seen as a product of Zina.”

Scientific Perspective on DNA Testing

Contrasting the religious stance, Miss Aisha Ahmad, a medical scientist at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, emphasized the reliability of DNA testing for biological parentage.

“DNA tests are 99% accurate if conducted correctly. They remain the best way to determine paternity when there is doubt,” she said, clarifying that the cleric’s religious viewpoint does not undermine the scientific accuracy of DNA tests.

The debate highlights the tension between religious teachings and modern science, with Muslim couples being urged to follow Islamic guidance, while acknowledging the technical reliability of DNA testing in paternity disputes.

A Nigerian groom has shocked many after calling off his wedding just weeks before the ceremony, following a heated dispute with his fiancée’s family over an additional ₦1.5 million payment for food. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

According to reports, the groom had already settled the ₦3.5 million bride price and covered other wedding expenses, including event planners and catering services. However, the bride’s family insisted he must pay an extra ₦1.5m, claiming it was part of their “family tradition.”

Groom Tried to Negotiate But Failed

Sources revealed that the groom attempted to negotiate by offering to handle the catering himself, but his proposal was rejected. His disappointment deepened when his fiancée allegedly refused to intervene or support him during the standoff with her family.

In frustration, the groom decided to cancel the wedding entirely, despite still having strong feelings for his would-be bride.
Social Media Reacts

The story gained attention after X (formerly Twitter) user @itzchristunique shared the groom’s ordeal online. The post revealed the man’s frustration, especially over his fiancée’s silence during the disagreement.

“My friend’s brother, whose wedding was supposed to take place in December, just cancelled it. The family of his fiancée demanded he pay ₦1.5m for food to be served that day,” the post read.

It further explained that the groom had already spent millions on bride price and preparations, yet the family remained unyielding in their demand.

The development has sparked mixed reactions across social media. While some users supported the groom’s decision, describing the family’s demand as exploitative, others argued that family traditions should be respected if both partners are serious about marriage.

Politics10 Things Only Lagosians Will Understand On Independence Day by phosky(op): 7:26am On Oct 01, 2025
Independence Day in Lagos isn’t just a public holiday—it’s a full-on city-wide vibe. From street jams to family feasts, here’s what truly makes the day special for Lagosians. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

1. The Jollof Rice Debate Is Real

Every household suddenly becomes a culinary judge: “Who cooked the best jollof this year?” Expect aunties, uncles, and even your neighbour’s kids to argue fiercely over whose rice reigns supreme. Lagosians know this debate is sacred and non-negotiable.

2. Traffic Is Practically a National Sport

Whether you’re going to a street party or visiting family, Lagos traffic ensures that your Independence Day plans are always “fashionably late.” Bonus points if you can take a photo of your stuck car and caption it: “Freedom in Lagos, Naija style.”

3. Lagos Island Becomes a Parade Ground

While Abuja may host official parades, Lagos goes big in its own chaotic way. Streets come alive with flags, local bands, and sometimes surprise performances by street dancers. If you’ve witnessed it, you know: nothing says Independence Day like dodging traffic while watching a marching band.

4. The “Naija Vibes” Street Parties

Pop-up street parties spring up everywhere—from Lekki to Surulere. Lagosians know the drill: music blasting, friends shouting, and everyone trying to claim they were “here before the crowd.”

5. Independence Day Selfies Are Mandatory

From Lekki’s beaches to Ikeja’s parks, Lagosians love to document the day. The hashtags #NaijaAt63 (or whatever the year is) flood social media. Bonus points if your photo captures both your outfit and the chaotic energy of Lagos streets.

6. The Fashion Show Is Real

It’s not just about wearing green and white; Lagosians go all out. Traditional attire gets mixed with streetwear, and suddenly, your Instagram feed becomes a mini Naija fashion week.

7. Lagos Market Adventures

Markets like Balogun and Oshodi become Independence Day hotspots. Expect crowds, bargain wars, and the occasional dramatic family reunion while shopping for celebratory food. Only Lagosians can survive the chaos and still leave with their hands full.

8. Waiting for the National Anthem… Kinda

Some events start with the national anthem, but Lagos time is a thing. You’ll wait, and wait, and maybe clap along randomly while someone figures out the mic. It’s all part of the charm.

9. The Lagos Skyline Is a Celebration

From rooftop hangouts in Victoria Island to the view from Third Mainland Bridge, Lagosians know the city lights look extra magical on Independence Day. It’s a subtle reminder: Lagos is always alive, even when the country’s economy isn’t.

10. The Aftermath Is Real

Once the celebrations are over, Lagosians are left with a mix of satisfaction, exhaustion, and a fridge full of leftover jollof. And yet, everyone secretly starts planning next year’s Independence Day before the current one ends.
