Crime / How MTN Aided In Stealing From My Bank Account by pinkypromise: 2:25am On Apr 28, 2016
Good day all, even though it has been a bad day for me I still feel I should share my experience on the tragedy that befell me. No long stories, I just finished my youth service in Kano State,Gwarzo local government to be precise. About a month ago, my phone was stolen in our lodge. However, I called MTN(my network provider) to report the theft and for them to block the sim until retrieval. Due to my Busy schedule, and the long, endless queues at the Mtn outlets, I was unable to retrieve my lost sim card. What is baffling now is; I went to the bank today to make some withdrawals. After my transaction, I discovered 24 thousand naira was missing. i quickly requested for my statement of account to know how the money take waka. From my statement of account, It showed clearly that the person in possession of my phone has been topping up my MTN line even after i reported it and it was blocked. I later discovered it was unblocked by MTN with the excuse that they can not keep it blocked for long. My argument is, even if you can't keep it blocked, why unblock a stolen sim? Why not create an entire new sim card for the number if your aim is to swindle Nigerians by any means necessary ? I am dejected because that money is part of my saved allawee and I intend using it for a business that will fetch me upkeep at least till I get a tangible source of income. I am sharing this to create awareness so people don't fall victim,if by any chance you lose your phone, please contact your bank immediately to suspend any transaction on the because MTN will leave it open even if you report it stolen. I wish I could sue them!
