All cars that ply Nigerian roads have number plates. Just as car registration is important because government officials who manage and regulate traffic can impound motorists’ cars when they notice it has no covering papers. The renewal of vehicle papers such as 1. Third-party insurance policy 2. Road-worthiness certificate 3. Vehicle licence Is also significant for motorist to avoid government officials who manage and regulate traffic to impounding their cars for expired vehicle papers. The following are preventive measures or steps to be taken for renewing expired or outdated vehicle papers. • Be conscious of the expiry date of the present vehicle papers to avoid impounding of cars. • Try to renew your vehicle papers a week or days before the stipulated expiry date of the present papers. • Patronize a corporate organisation for vehicle paper renewal such as MVAA, FRSC, VIO or newly established online delivery organisation such as http://carreg.com.ng/product-list.php?pg1-cid48.html or Regexpress. There are two ways of gettting these papers, either in split such as: • Buying the insurance policy off of the website of a couple of Nigerian companies • Getting the vehicle licence renewed at any branch of any commercial bank in Lagos • Visiting the FRSC office to get road-worthiness certificate renewed OR • Applying for all three documents together from government agencies or corporate organizations. • The internet will be of huge help either in searching for locations of the above mentioned organizations near you, or showing headway in getting the papers online. An example is a link on the internet that indicates a service that catered for the renewal of all three papers at a very affordable price of 10000 Naira - inclusive of delivery with just a screenshot of an expiring vehicle licence. Without moving from the comfort of your home or office and also without the stressful experience of delays and long queues in most government agencies. • Cost of renewing vehicle papers at different corporate organisation may vary due to a reason or the other. However, it should not be less or more than #12,000. • Requirement for renewing vehicle papers is the expired or about to expire documents. The car wash will forever be happy to eat from you. They know you will always bring your car for a clean and that is the only way to give them the unavailable cash. But don't worry, we have five quick tips on how to clean your car without having to spend much at all. 1. Use olive oil: There is nothing better than applying olive oil to your leather dashboard. It gives the dashboard a clean sparkling colour that your car didn't have when you bought it. Most people have olive oil in their homes. Especially, the religious and those who have new born babies. Why don't you just try it out. 2. Make your tires sparkling clean: Make your tires shine and sparkle with this quick homemade cleaning paste. All you need is baking soda, dish soap, and warm water. Rub this mixture over your tires and you are sitting pretty. 3. Your cotton boards can be useful: If you have cotton boards or brush that you are no more making use of then you can do this. There are some parts of the car that your hands can't reach. You can easily use cotton boards or brush to reach those parts. Those parts are mostly around the steering and dashboard 4. You got bad smells in your car? This is a local way of doing it. You don't need to buy air fresheners and all because sometimes they can be irritating. All you need is a small bag of charcoal placed underneath your seat. Yes, you read that right. Place a small bag of charcoal underneath your seat and voila! You are genius. 5. Ask your wife: If you really hate the way your car looks even after washing, your wife may have the final answer for you. You may need to ask for her hair conditioner. Hair conditioners are said to wash the car cleaner than traditional car washing soap. Most hair conditioners contain Lanolin which is a form of wax that will make your car shine like new. http://motorfixer.com/five-car-cleaning-tips/

Fuel Consumption Tips and Tricks 101: A guide to Save Fuel (I used fuel because your car can be powered by petrol or diesel) Just before I go into this, I would just like us all, especially Nigerians to reminisce that blissful period before the fuel price hike when petrol was once as low as 40 naira per litre. Oh how we lived like kings and queens as our tanks never went below half, we would drive cross-country just because we forgot our biro in school. That’s how cheap it was. Remember 2012, the announcement of the fuel subsidy removal. For once, Nigeria embraced togetherness and unity fighting for a cause: Cheaper Petrol Price. We fought, went on strike, and most importantly enjoyed being away from the office or school, and it eventually fell to 97 naira from 140 naira. Now fast forward to 2016, in the era of CHANGE. Where the price of fuel has gone all the way up to N145 and simply having an "island-mainland" affair is now termed a long distance relationship, some fuel tanks have not seen 'F' for months, relationships broken, number of bicycles have risen etc. This is why I’m writing this piece today, because we don't for-see the fuel price dropping in the near future but I can surely show you how to get the best out of your hard-earned 145naira per litre. "HOW?" Would be one of the first words that come to mind. When you look up the specifications of any car, you would usually come across "gibberish" like 30mpg city/ 40mpg highway/35mpg combined. Thankfully, I speak the language of automobiles and I shall translate… All that seemingly foreign language simply tells you how many miles you can cover with a gallon of petrol (or kilometres you can cover with a litre of petrol) Actually, a lot of other factors come into play in determining fuel consumption. Factors such as the number of cylinders, the capacity of each cylinder, the type of vehicle and, not forgetting, how the vehicle is actually driven on a daily basis. Luckily, Ayorinde AKA "Vader" is here for YOU NOW TO THE TIPS * Drive at the right tyre pressure: Most of us don't drive with our tyres at the right pressure and this increases rolling resistance, leading to more power being needed to counter the resistance, at the cost of more fuel being used. * Avoid rapid acceleration and braking unnecessarily: Stamping hard on the accelerator results in excess fuel being pumped into the cylinders. Passengers do not need to get sucked into their seats every time you accelerate… Simply accelerate smoothly, “let her roll and gradually pick up pace”. The energy gathered from accelerating wastes when we brake unnecessarily. * Avoid unnecessary weight: Get all that JUNK, outta ya or your TRUNK! Things like Shoes, Bags and irrelevant things left in the car and trunk weigh us down. The lighter the car, the less load on the engine, resulting in less fuel being used. A lot of our boots are an extension of our house. I have seen spoons, plates, HECK, even a microwave in someone's boot and the person said it had been there for almost a month,WHAT'S IT DOING THERE? * Maintain a good engine: Are the “oils”, “spark plugs”, “air filter”, “fuel filter” etc in good state? I always say “a healthy car engine spares you headache". * Petrol is made of volatile organic compounds: Meaning it can evaporate while in the tank… Ensure that your fuel filler cap is tightly screwed or bolted and avoid parking under direct sunlight as much as you can. * Utilize your cruise control as often as you can (when the time is right): Here, a system takes over the throttling of air, pumping in the exact amount of fuel required to maintain a set speed (without support from your foot on the accelerator pedal). Weird Fact: Driving with a quarter full fuel tank saves more fuel than driving with a full tank. And THOSE folks, are ways I just helped you save some naira. steering. No busy hands. No painful feet. Just a car moving on its own programmed-accord. That is fun if you look at it. A self-driving car is the next big technology the world seems to be gradually noticing. Car manufacturers and major tech companies like Google, Uber, Tesla, and, most recently, Apple are competing to stay on the cutting edge of this technology. But are humans really ready to give up the wheel? Have you ever thought about the power that’s in your hands when you drive a car? You driving past thousands of other cars: overtaking; cursing and spitting at other drivers; showing off your ability to drift; telling other drivers they have to wait for you when you try to get in their lane; braking simultaneously with your heart when a pedestrian wants you to end their life; just sitting behind the wheel moving your hands as you wish. Those things are what driving yourself gives. It's quite remarkable when we entrust all these powers to a driver. Although, the human factor still proves itself when a personal driver gets behind the wheel. But what would be the fate of these powers when we give it to programmed cars? In 2013 for instance, 6450 Nigerians lost their lives on our roads, which includes 4552 men, 1398 women, 299 boys and 201 girls. Between 2009 and 2013, 30435 people were killed in road accidents in Nigeria (This is about the size of a European city, e.g. Gyula, Hungary). Also, 28480 men, 9198 women, 1520 boys and 859 girls, a total of 40057 people were injured in road accidents in 2013 while 183531 people were injured in road accidents between 2009 and 2013. 1.3 million people globally die every year in automobile accidents. Those are staggering numbers. It’s the ninth leading cause of death globally (just ahead of HIV/AIDS), and it’s the only non-disease entry on the top ten list. From the causes of these accidents ranging from drunk drivers to texting while driving, do we have the power to reduce accidents on our roads while remaining behind the wheel? In United State of America, The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that 80% of traffic accidents and 16% of traffic fatalities are related to distracted driving. This proves that self-driving cars can reduce traffic accidents. When a car can easily detect and control the possibility of an accident, the probability of the accident happening is reduced. This indirectly means that self-driving cars can reduce the finances spent on maintenance, repairs, and medical bills. Fuel efficiency could be increased, saving a few naira at the gas station as well. Professor Engin Kirda, a systems, software, and network security expert, of the Northeastern University, was recently asked if he would feel safe being in a self-driving car. He said: "In 2017: Absolutely not if the car is completely autonomous. In 2027: Possibly. I think a lot will depend on how mature the technology will become." Recently, an engineer from Tesla died in a self-driving car. It was noted that he trusted the technology so much not to make mistake. However, with each passing day, it becomes more and more glaring that a self-driving car does not guarantee safety. A self-driving driving car can be hacked. If a self-driving car has significant computations connecting to the outside world via the cloud, needs some sort of internet-connectivity for its functionality, or completely relies on outside sensors for making all decisions, then yes, it might be susceptible to hackers. In principle, any computerised system that has an interface connecting it to the outside world can be hacked. This means your directions can be changed, a car can be used to do things that are considered dangerous, it can be used to kill intentionally, and you are more vulnerable at every point. Although, human error might have contributed to road accidents, it seems self-driving cars are, infact, more dangerous. How will we program self-driving vehicles to confront situations where an accident is inevitable? What if the outcome varies based on different maneuvers? There are times when you need to increase your speed instead of breaking to avoid an obstacle. What if the car was programmed to brake? A self-driving car does not possess emotions and instincts. All it has is the programmed ability to make calculations in fractions of milliseconds. Imagine if a self-driving car is confronted with the possibility of killing a child and hitting another car. Its calculations responds that there is a 80% possibility of survival for the child and 20% for the car. The self-driving car, responding to these calculations will run into the child. A self-driving car lacks the ability to feel and react reflexively when in different situations and this makes humans more vulnerable. Fear and indifference remains a reason not to trust self-driving cars. In a 2014 survey, more than 20 percent of respondents in the U.S., U.K., Australia, and Japan said they just wouldn’t ride in a self-driving vehicle, period. But even those who aren’t backing off in fear don’t necessarily trust cars to drive themselves. In 2014, just over one-third of those in the U.S., given the chance to ride in an autonomous car, said they’d watch the road the whole time. This helps to prove that the willingness to leave ourselves to an autonomous vehicle is considered, generally, as dangerous. Even in airplanes, people don't trust an invisible pilot just making announcements out of the blues. Self-driving cars may be an important move in our history. Truly, it is. It has a good potential to reduce accidents. It also reduces a cost on maintenance and repairs. However, the human factor is a very important factor that defeats the superiority of any machine. A self-driving car can be hacked by an unknown hacker sitting in a room, probably in Yaba. The car lacks the ability to make instinctive decisions at different situations. It may consider a gabbage bin before considering a crossing pedestrian, depending on its calculations. Everyone is simply concerned about the Fate of The Furious in a self-driving car. We know how Nigerians love gazing at the Range Rover brands. The speedy Land Cruiser Prado and the never-ending Honda and Toyota brands. They are all nice cars but do the prices really match the benefits. I doubt it Sedan : The most common car body type in Nigeria and around the world is Sedan(American, Australian, Canada) or Saloon (British, Irish) and they mostly have an Engine, Passenger and Cargo (EPC) compartment. In fact the basic reason of Sedan cars is to transport passenger (P) and their luggages (C) on ordinary road. Sedans are generally 4-door cars with separate space for luggage, engine and seating with a structure to accommodate at least 4 people with a fixed roof. Sedan cars have stretched boot. For example Honda Accord, Toyota Corrolla, Nissan Altima etc. If you think you have stuffs to load in your car e.g extra tyres, wheels, bags, any stuff and you still don’t want to inconvenient your passengers or lose proper view of the front mirror. I think a Sedan car is the answer Hatchback : You see this type very well and many even confuse them to SUVs. Although many car manufacturers over the years are trying to make the difference insignificance but there are some examples and benefits of an Hatchback car body type. An Hatchback car has a rear door that swings upward to provide entry to the cargo area. Remember how you open your Hyundai IX35, Nissan Rogue, You realized these cars don’t have a stretched boot or cargo area ( x < 5m) in length. Some hatchbacks usually have low ground clearance like I10 brands, Picanto, and they also look very compact. A box shape like. IX35 is a perfect example. Many people don’t like this configuration because it rear door can provide an access for intruders, thieves to break into the car from the back, although car manufacturers have improved on this setback over the years but it is still a tag we can’t overlook. Others love the fact that it rear door can swing upward and luggage can pile up as the cargo area may take.| MPV : it stands for Multi Purpose Vehicles. These ones are your Toyota Quest, Mazda minivan, Sienna etc. People love these cars not only because of the size but the flexibility it brings. You can fold the last passenger seat to extend the space of the cargo area and if you have a family, this makes a lot of sense with it accommodating comfortable seating of 6 to 8 people. They also have a better ground clearance than the hatchback category. SUV : It stands for a Sport Utility Vehicle. One of it basic features is the ability to give a better driving experience on rough or bumpy terrain than all other car body types. They can also be called off-road vehicles . It has a high ground clearance which makes it possible to withstand rough terrain with little or no damage. On rough terrain, SUVs tops it all. No wonder many Nigerians prefers this body type on holidays to developing or underdeveloped areas, rock or mountain communities, swamplands and it is a 5 to 7 seater depending on the length of the car. When you see a Land Rover, Range Rover or a Land Cruiser prado then you’ve just seen an SUV. Coupe : Coupe is the name given to sedan cars with two doors only. The two doors are bit larger and though rear seat is available in some models, passengers can go inside through sliding of the front seats. Given it two doors structure, it is more elegant and stylish which makes many dudes prefers it. Coupe design is used mostly in countries like England, Canada, the UK, France and other European countries. Examples for Coupe are Aston Martin V8 Vantage Coupe,Audi RS 5 Convertible cars : Convertible cars are the cars whose roof line can be removed or refitted as required. Generally it’s available in high end luxury vehicles. Electro mechanical devices are used for step by step folding of the roof lines. In earlier vehicles leather material were used. In modern vehicles the metal roof lines with design of folding part by part and eventually rest on/in trunk part of the vehicle. Operating of a button is good enough for folding or putting back the roof linings. Convertibles are more frequently used in cold countries wherein weather temperature is quite less and also roads have lesser dusty conditions. It’s purely a preferred choice for persons with passion of using stylish cars and the feel of air in hair when driving vehicle. So id you feel any need to get a car to for summer holidays in the beach, resorts like Obudu cattle ranch then a convertible car is flexible enough to give you maximum comfort. A popular example is the Toyota Solara. Source : http://motorfixer.com/knowing-the-perfect-car/ |
You guys are absolutely right. When i saw the post on that website. I thought i should share you. |
As driving involves cars, cars also involve either driving to a short or long distance. In this piece, the journey is known but the destination is unknown. Let's use Lagos as a case study, it could be the driver intends to visit an old friend he lost contact with before meeting him again a couple of weeks back at a fuel station. On realizing they both stay in Lagos, he decides to pay him a visit, but problems may evolve because he stays on the island part of Lagos while his friend stays on the mainland part of Lagos, an area he fairly has knowledge of. Similarly, it could be a first time visit of the driver to his in-law's place, an interstate journey. Here are ten ways to getting to his destination in safe mode. 1. Before setting off on a trip, either short or long trip (especially long car trip), be sure your vehicle is in prime condition such as the tires being properly inflated, brakes, the belt(s) not worn etc. Also, all fluids such as coolant, brake fluid, engine oil etc. should be at their proper levels and you should have enough fuel and make sure your fuel gauge works For particularly long road trips, you may want to have your mechanic do a more thorough check. 2. Make sure your phone is fully charged or own a car charger. As they say, communication is key, you do not want to get to your destination very stressed already as a result of wrong description from a random passer-by who gave you wrong directions. So, your phone is needed to communicate with the person you are meeting for direction sake. 3.Know the laws along your route concerning cell phone use while driving. While it may be legal in one place, it may be illegal in another, and ignorance is not typically an acceptable excuse for a violation. According to the Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria: "Section 10 (Sub 4)of the FRSC Establishment Act 2007 prescribes “making or receiving phone call while driving vehicles an offence and the punishment is N4000 and or 6months imprisonment." The law doesn’t allow the use of hands-free for phoning while driving, unlike in some other countries. This is to avoid distractions; some news either positive or negative can lead to excitement and loss of concentration which could result into Road Traffic Crash (RTC). As a result of the above mentioned caution, this leads to tip number four. 4. You should pull over when you need to make calls, either for direction or other calls. If you do have to pull over, move your car off the road. Never park on the shoulder or in the breakdown lane for any reason except an emergency. 5. Familiarize yourself with local traffic laws, which vary from state to state. Is it legal to make a right turn at a red light? What are the rules on yielding to pedestrians? And so on. 6. Apps such as Google Maps and others ( that have same functions as Google maps)on the driver's smartphone help to guide you around traffic jams as well as navigate you to your destination. 7. The driver should be conscious of the fuel in the car and not wait until the fuel gauge is sitting on E to refuel. On an unfamiliar road, you never know when the next petrol station will appear. As soon as you hit a quarter of a tank, start looking for a place to fill up. 8. This tip is for a more longer journey. Lock all of your valuables (especially items that are clearly gifts) in the boot or glove compartment and stow all luggage in the boot. This will ensure safety of properties till one gets to his destination and you know that when your properties are safe, the mind is at rest which indirectly signifies your safety as well. 9. DO NOT DRINK WHILE DRIVING OR BEFORE DRIVING, AND IF IT IS COMPULSORY FOR YOU TO DRINK, DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH THE STEERING OR THE CAR KEYS (only if you want to hand it over to another driver). #KeyRoad2Safety. 10. It is important to say this again, the seat belts are not only meant to make you look cool in selfies and wefies you take in your cars. Make sure everyone in the car buckles his or her seatbelt. Not only will it keep you safe, but in most places it's also the law. Source : http://motorfixer.com/10-tips-on-how-to-drive-safe-to-an-unknown-destination/ |

how will i handle this that it wont bite me?? |
osesology:Brother, why do you take this CNN so seriously. They are entitled to their opinion, who cares. Just creating nothing out of nothing. I also felt that she is pained that shes not familiar with the faces around and not because of performance. What happens to the effect of her husbands policies on Nigerians? Now people will start talking about the role of Michelle Obama, well that's America and this is Nigeria. Why do we Nigerians take this distraction as an issue. Who knows the First lady of Russia, France, Hong Kong, China, India, Belgium or are they not developed countries? I think the problem is her husband is not carrying her along with governance which reduces her contributions unlike previous first ladies |
Doctorfitz:You are so on point brother. I do not know why Nigerians just love making issues out of no where. Who did you vote for? Buhari or Aisha. The way he runs his marriage should not be a concern to Angela Merkel or you, they didnt contribute money for him to pay her dowry. And also it is not so important for the wife of an office holder to get too involved in the way he runs his affairs because she may be politically inaccurate all the times which can have more negatives. We can ask about Patience Jonathan. |
I am very disappointed by some peoples low level of understanding politics. The question is what do you expect from the wife of the president in this difficult times. If she had backed her husband and gave him a positive score about the whole situation facing his government, many politicians and ignorant people will take her opinion as inaccurate and partial. So she acted best by trying to echo the inner voice of average Nigerians and try to be on their side. Also the president statement is 100% valid, who did Nigerians vote for? The president or the president's family. The last time I checked Aisha Buhari does not belong to any political party and was not elected by anybody so some ignorant saying equality trash should think outside of opposition box. This does not correlate with that. Also if the president had not replied, many ignorant will lay claims of disregarding the first lady's input which they will say is a bad omen for outsiders. The harsh truth is this, the Buharis are aware of everything you guys are trying to create something with, so you think the presidency is not aware of the so called interview before it was made or that the first lady is not aware of her husband reply before you hear about it. It is just POLITICS. |
