The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results for the June/July 2018 Senior Secondary Schools Certificate Examination.

This was contained in a statement signed by the acting Registrar of the Council, Abubakar Gana.

According to Gana, only 742,455 of the candidates got at least five credit passes including Mathematics and the English Language out of the 1,041,536 candidates who sat for the examinations.

A man, Friday Uko has been sentenced to death by the Akwa Ibom State High Court, sitting in Ikot Ekpene Judiciary Division for killing his wife over N1000.

A journalist identified as Harrison Essien, said the accuse who hails from Ikot Ossom in Obot Akara Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, reportedly pushed his three-month-old pregnant wife, Patience, with full force on 14th August, 2014, because she removed N1000 from his pocket and used it to cook food for their seven children (6 girls, 1 boy).

A 37-year-old ex-marketing officer of Addosser Micro-Finance Bank Plc, Aliu Mustapha, on Thursday appeared before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged N1million theft.

The defendant of No. 8, Oremeji St., Lagos, arrested on his wedding day, is facing trial on a charge of stealing preferred against him by the police.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Samuel Mishozunnu, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence between May and June 2017, during working hours, at No. 32, Lewis St., Lagos Island.

He said that the defendant allegedly committed the offence while working with Addosser Micro-Finance Bank PLC.



Mishozunnu said that the defendant collected the N1million from a customer of the micro-finance bank but refused to remit it to the bank.

“One of the customer’s gave the defendant N840, 000 and another customer gave him N160, 000, but the accused absconded with the money.

“Mustapha was arrested on Aug. 11, during his wedding after the police got information that he was getting married.

There have been indications that lawmakers loyal to All Progressives Congress, APC have a plot in the offing to impeach Senate President Bukola Saraki.

Saraki dumped the ruling APC for Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and has continued to face impeachment threats with the peak being from the National Leader of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole who has insisted that he will be impeached.

Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, has said he stands a better chance of becoming Nigeria’s President in 2023 but he only thing that might hamper his quest is Igbo people.

The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has written to the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, seeking permission to search the residence of the sacked Director-General of the Department of State Services, Lawal Daura.

The letter dated 8th August 2018 is titled, “Interim Investigation Report on Criminal Conspiracy to wit trespass, intimidation and unlawful invasion of National Assembly complex with intent likely to cause breach of public peace.”

The Ondo State Government has promised to establish a temporary shelter for women who have been suffering from domestic violence in the state to ameliorate their plight.

The Federal Government has advised Nigerian husbands to stop struggling with their babies over breasts, but rather allow their wives to put the babies on exclusive breast milk.

Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, gave the admonition as he also disclosed that he was advocating with the Ministry of Labour and Employment to extend maternity leave from the current four months to six.

Adewole said this at the ministerial briefing and inauguration of the 2018 World Breastfeeding Week and High-Level Policy Dialogue on Breastfeeding in Abuja on Thursday tagged ‘Breastfeeding: Foundation of Life’.
