A young Nigerian man who went shopping at a supermarket has been caught with ‘stolen’ items shoplifted around his waist. The Facebook user, Segun Availeth, who shared the story, said the young man was pretending to be shopping before the attendant noticed something very unusual around the man’s waist. A well-loaded truck has lost control and crashed into a building situated at Owode-Onirin on Thursday in Lagos State. The Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed that the accident, saying it happened around 4.10 p.m. on Lagos-Ikorodu Expressway. On Wednesday, Lagos State Police Command, arraigned a pastor, Nduka Anyanwu, before the state Magistrates’ Court in Yaba for defiling and impregnating two sisters. Anyanwu was alleged to have slept with the sisters, aged 17 and 13, on several occasions and impregnated them. The suspect was arraigned on two counts bordering on defilement before Chief Magistrate A. Adedayo. He pleaded guilty to the charges. A disturbing number of doctors are set to exit Nigeria once the ban on international flights is lifted this week, TopNaija has uncovered. Data provided by the United Kingdom’s Medical Council that the number of Nigerian doctors migrating to the UK has increased by almost 100 between July and August despite the restriction on international flights. TopNaija had earlier reported how Nigeria Immigration Service had in July prevented 58 Nigerian doctors from migrating to the UK because they didn’t have visas. It was, however, learnt that following the re-opening of the British High Commission a month ago, many of these doctors had obtained visas and had left even though the restriction on international flights had not been lifted. On Monday, the Lagos State Government arraigned a commercial boat helmsman, Happiness Elebiju, for involuntary manslaughter before the state High Court in Ikeja for allegedly causing the death of 12 passengers while conveying them to their destinations. Nigerian Pentecostal church, Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries has announced it will not reopen its churches in Lagos and Ogun states, despite the federal and state governments allowing for worship centres to reopen, TopNaija reports. On Monday, Africa’s largest food retailer, Shoprite announced it is considering selling off its majority share in its Nigerian subsidiary as TopNaija reported. In a trading update filed at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), the retail giant said it has begun the formal process of liquidating its majority share. “Following approaches from various potential investors, and in line with our re-evaluation of the group’s operating model in Nigeria, the board has decided to initiate a formal process to consider the potential sale of all, or a majority stake, in Retail Supermarkets Nigeria Limited, a subsidiary of Shoprite International Limited. Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a commercial driver identified as Habeeb Quadri, for assaulting a passenger, Emmanuel James, in the Surulere area of the state, resulting in his death, TopNaija reports. Quadri was arrested by the Bode Thomas Police Division on Thursday with eyewitnesses claiming that the driver hit James in the chest over an issue bordering on money during which the deceased slumped.
