The long strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities may soon be called off after an eight-hour meeting between ASUU leaders and federal government representatives ended on an amicable note.

Briefing journalists after the eight-hour meeting, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, said the dialogue was fruitful.

A fuel-laden tanker has gone up in flames at the Kara end of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the early hours of this morning Saturday, November 7, 2020, TopNaija reports.

Lifeless bodies of two pregnant women and two men killed by flood have been recovered after four days in Omeligboma, Oko community, Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The four bodies were recovered on Thursday by local divers, who had been searching for the victims since the incident occurred.

The victims are believed to be relocating from the community due to the threatening flood before they drowned at Omeligboma, Oko community in the state capital.

Olawale Hassan, UK-based Nigerian rapper also known as Goldie 1, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for raping a young woman.




According to BBC, the 33-year-old singer, who lives at Falcon Avenue, Grays, Essex, attacked his subject in Southend back in 2017 after identifying himself as a music producer.

He had been charged with three counts of rape and one of assault by penetration. He had also denied the charges but was unanimously found guilty by a jury and was sentenced on Tuesday.

Essex police also described Hassan as “manipulative and calculated”.

Kabiru Ismaila, a vandal has been electrocuted while allegedly stealing a transformer cable in the Adamo area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, TopNaija reports.

Oyo North lawmaker, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, says he will support All Progressives Congress stalwart, Bola Tinubu, to be the next president of Nigeria the moment he declares his interest in the nation’s top job.

Buhari said this during an interview with journalist, Edmund Obilo, on Thursday.

When asked if Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State was working against Tinubu’s interest, Buhari said that was not true.

He responded, “No. I am Tinubu. I am not Fayemi and I will not be in a meeting where somebody would be working against Tinubu. I am supporting Tinubu.”

Responding to a question on whether Tinubu was running for president, Buhari said, “If he wants to be President, I will support him. I will campaign for him.”

He, however, said a former Governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala, is the leader of the party in the state.

Godwin Obaseki, Edo State Governor, has vowed to punish his erstwhile godfather Adams Oshiomhole and his “lions and tigers” if they continue to misbehave, TopNaija reports.

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have rescued a trader, Mrs Akpezi Okpidi, who was abducted by gunmen, who waylaid her car at the Otovwodo junction in Ughelli on Saturday.

On Thursday, the pan-northern socio-political organisation, the Arewa Consultative Forum, maintained that its membership was not by force, TopNaija reports.




The ACF’s National Publicity Secretary, Emmanuel Yawe, said this in a recent interview in Abuja, while reacting to the emergence of a breakaway group in the pan-northern organisation.

Yawe said the ACF said was not worried about the emergence of the North-Central Peoples Forum. On Wednesday, prominent leaders from the North-Central announced their exit from the ACF, citing the worsening insecurity in northern Nigeria.

Insecurity: North-Central breaks away from ACF, announces new group

Prominent leaders from the North-Central geopolitical zone have announced their exit from the Arewa Consultative Forum, citing the worsening insecurity in northern Nigeria.

The leaders announced the formation of the North Central Peoples Forum as a platform to fight insecurity and marginalisation.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, the group said in spite of the abundant mineral and human resources in the zone, the North-Central was bedevilled by vices, like kidnapping, banditry and other forms of criminality.

The ACF currently has as its Chairman, the immediate-past Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh, who is from the North Central zone.

The new North-Central group is being led by a former Minister of State for Health, Gabriel Aduku, who is the interim chairman.

A former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Jerry Useni, Ibrahim Mantu, a former Military Administrator of Kwara State, Col. David Bamigboye (retd.), and a former deputy chief of staff to the President, Chief Olusola Akomode, were also listed as members.

The list also included the Publisher of Leadership Newspaper, Sam Nda-Isaiah, a former Nigeria Ambassador to South Africa, Ahmed Ibeto, a media consultant, Alhaji Tajudeen Kareem, a former Deputy Governor of Benue State, Chief Stephen Lawani and Alhaji Alfa Mohammed, among others.

Useni told journalists that the existence of similar groups in other parts of the country had given rise to group affinity and solidarity among the states in a particular geopolitical zone to canvass things of common interest.

He expressed confidence that the forum would unite the people of Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau and the Federal Capital Territory in their quest to ensure that peace and stability was established and sustained within the zone.

He added that the forum would pursue rapid industrialisation across all nooks and crannies of the zone.

He said the group would pursue policies and process that would ensure that the massive solid mineral and agricultural endowments were adequately harnessed.

He said, “The forum is also aimed at ensuring cooperation and support for the good policies and administration of the six governors of the zone, irrespective of our political, religious and ethnic differences.

“We will support and cooperate fully with the Federal Government for full and complete implementation of infrastructures, development projects situated in the zone and the involvement of the people of the zone in the national affairs of the country.

“We will promote, defend and strengthen North Central unity and the interest of its people in the context of one indivisible Nigeria and to contribute to the safeguarding of her territorial integrity.

“Consequently, every zone now has a common socio-political platform where they meet to discuss their strength and weakness with the view to propounding and promoting progress and development of the zone.”

On Tuesday, Governor Samuel Ortom confirmed the arrest of Benue’s most wanted criminal, Terwase Akwaza, alias Gana, by soldiers of Operation Whirl Stroke on the outskirts of Gboko, TopNaija reports.
