Projects often get abandoned because of unfavorable circumstances or when many things are demanding your attention.

In 2020, precisely 2 months after the Covid-19 restriction was lifted, the last batch of our staff resumed for us to operate fully to continuously offer the best services to our customers.

My assumption was that once they resume, the job will be easy and they get back to their job functions. But, I was totally wrong. Just 60days of not being in the office to do their routine / tasks, they have completely forgotten 50% of what they learned prior to the unfortunate event.

Mostly, you will key your mind towards the questions you have practised hoping to get exact in the exams. However, you are thrown off balance by the Examiner. This is simply because you don’t understand the technique, principle, concepts, or combination of topics the Examiner is testing.

Don't Give Up...Don't end up like Rebecca...

PGOLD May 2024 Support Class is getting interesting and I must confess our students are doing everything in their power to study and get ready for the exams.

As you study in this ever-changing world, there are many things demanding your attention. If you are not careful, you will end up procrastinating on your studies.

Rebecca is a classical example. During our conversation in September 2020, In her own words. "I end up procrastinating and spending my entire schedule on my phone when I have to study. I am really scared of myself. I seriously need help. What can I do?"

First of all, like I told Rebecca, let me assure you that this is completely normal if you are experiencing the same thing. Every student has faced this when it comes to studying.

The underlying problem is not the phone, it is the unwillingness to study. If you really don’t want to read or study, like you are forcing your kid who prefers cartoon to study, trust me you’ll find thousands of reasons to procrastinate.

Now, your smartphones are addictive, because they’re filled with millions of things, and you constantly want to know what’s going on. It can be surfing through social media, playing games like candy crush, scrolling down your playlist or photos.

Or, simply just checking the screen for any notifications. It becomes exhausting if you don’t learn to control yourself. Especially that Tiktok of 10sec that will make you spend hours viewing hilarious videos.

Like I told Rebecca, What I’d advise you to do is take just a few minutes from your studies and from your phone.

1. Take a notebook and pen, sit down and remind yourself why you’re studying. I know this will sound trivial a bit, but you gotta do it someday.

2. Ask yourself - what do I want to become in life? And NO, this is NOT the ‘age-old’ question about your career and success. Don’t think about your career, that is the later part. First, think about what you want to become as a person, what purpose you see in yourself.

If you want to earn respect, put your best self in front of everyone, if you want people to see you as a smart, kind and confident person, you have to work hard to achieve all that.

3. Remind yourself that you don’t need to study just for passing the exams, you must study so that you train your brain and make it sharper every day. Challenge yourself - how do I learn this chapter in my own way?

How much do I know that I can find the easiest way to remember things? Work on that, make learning interesting, and you will not only study with passion, but also learn yourself better.

4. Bombard yourself with questions about your future self (again, not with respect to your earnings and social status, but how you want people to perceive you) and your mind will give you the existential crisis that you’ll need in order to put aside your procrastinating traits and really focus on studying.

Make sure you remind yourself how useless you are whenever you waste your time scrolling through social feeds, and you’ll be surprised at how your brain treats it as an insult and pushes you to do something productive.

What is the Feynman Technique of learning?
The Feynman Technique is a simple learning method to understand any topic. It can be used to learn anything faster and to learn effectively. It consists of 4 easy steps that we must repeat until perfection.

Feynman Technique Steps
Step 1: – Identify a topic.

Step 2: Try to explain the topic in the easiest of words to yourself or others. Do not use any fancy or complicated terminology. Instead, use your own words and make it as simple as possible.

Step 3: Read your explanation. Identify the gaps in your understanding and try to review the topic or lecture.

Step 4: Re-write the explanation again in the simplest form possible.

Repeat the process until you can explain this topic to an amateur who has no idea about this topic. That is when you have completed your understanding and knowledge of the topic.

Leaving any project unfinished is not ideal, and neither is it encouraging.

Projects that have a direct impact on your career should always be taken seriously. If you find yourself in the accounting profession, qualifying is a must and it must be done quickly before time gets caught up with you.

Let's say there is a guy called Oyinlola who is an accountant in one of the insurance companies on the island. His elder brother who is an FCA already has the foresight of what might happen if he does not qualify. Failure is a few errors in judgment repeated over a period of time and success is a few disciplines done consistently over a period of time.
