Politics › Re: Eko Disco Plans To End Estimated Billing by PlasmaTV: 8:40pm On Jun 27, 2025 |
armadeo: Clowns.
I will never forget the day I went to argue my case at eko disco.
I took evidence of video recordings of my meter as well as the last bill I received.
My meter reading on the bill was far ahead of my physical meter. After turning me up and down, I'd lost my temper and screamed
A staff there told me that someone has used the electricity and someone has to pay. I refused
They cut my light the next week. After back and forth I had to pay the bill. Prior to that I had started making moves for prepaid meter
Imagine when they installed the meter they put 100k + bill on it.
I got all the way to nerc on the matter. Back and forth. Once you load units they'll collect part of it first and leave the rest. Till they collected almost 70k.
Nerc then resolved and said they should remove the 30k + left
Since I've got prepaid I have peace now. Sorry about your experience, boss. Those guys are wickedly heartless. I know someone that bought a new prepaid meter and 300k was owing. He went to plead his case, but no answer. He had to pay it off. |
Politics › Re: Eko Disco Plans To End Estimated Billing by PlasmaTV: 2:49pm On Jun 27, 2025 |
Nazgul: Believe me when I tell you that I'll happily embrace band A to estimated billing. In estimated billing even if you don't have light for 2weeks nepa would give you outrageous bill. In Band A you can move your change over to neutral if you're going out to preserve your units. You can determine how long you want it to last.
The highest you can spend as a band A user if you're living in a flat with 2 inverter ACs, deep freezer, TV and other smaller electronics is 50k per month. That's about 200 units (or more if you're given bonus)
What you should know about band A is that the consumption rate is the same as other bands. The only difference is the cost of units.
Estimated billing on the other hand is crazy. I've see an estimated bill of 387k on Twitter. For a flat. And one crazy fact about estimated billing is that your bill keeps increasing every month. It never goes down. 50k? For those appliances that you mentioned? I doubt it, boss. More like 100k. |

Business › Re: Naira Continues Depreciation Against Dollar At Official FOREX Market by PlasmaTV: 9:12pm On Jun 26, 2025 |
nairalanda1: Yeah, and at one time one naira was one dollar. That means whoever came before Buhari must have been a failure like Buhari.
The problem with you and the guy you are responding to is that, no offence...both of you don't get it. The naira has been falling since 1973...and we have been using tons of forex to keep it from falling. The result is part of the huge debt that we have today. It costs money to keep the naira up.
I am not defending tinubu...and his float the naira was not something he wanted to do, but was due to the fact that there was no more dollars. Even Buhari...when he took over, the good old days of 2008-14 when a barrel of crude was at least 100 dollars per barrel most of the time was gone. He had to reduce the dollars he was spending to buffer the naira over time.
But as I said, I am not defending buhari or tinubu.
Every Nigerian leader , including tinubu, has spent billions of forex defending the naira, and what we have here is that our forex needs have also grown to a point where it was difficult to keep up the defence. In 1991, one dollar was eight naira...good eh? Well, we did not have gsm phones, laptops, tablets, most cars were still made in nigeria, the second hand ones were made in nigeria, and most tyres were made in nigeria. TOday, we import far more than we did in 1991, and it competes with the dollars we use....which is why the government can no longer give you N1 to N40 or something.
Yes, our government runs a bad economy, but the reason why is simple. The thing is, countries with strong economies (and don't mention Ghana because their currency hides a lot of bad things)....are countries which export manufactured goods and services. It is why the Swiss have a powerful currency, while we do not.
And that is why all of our leaders have run bad economies since the 1960. They run economies based on selling oil cocoa, cotton, etc tec...which prices we do not control. That leaves us with limited dollars to buffer our currency. When our forex needs were low, it was easy to pull off. When 1992 and the opening up of the global economy came around, that's when problems started.
I want us to vote out tinubu , but we need a government that would lead us to manufactured goods and services...otherwise, any good government of the kind you want is going to end up taking more loans to keep naira at N1 to N20 so that you can be happy, while we pile up debt for our kids. Like tinubu and buhari and gej and company did, until we could no longer sustain it by August 2022. I like you. A lot. Thanks for your civility. I agree with your points (not all though). |

Terrible people.
Why did nairaland moderators move this totally deceptive thread to front page
A currency barely changes, and you report it as losing value.
In reality, Naira has been one of the most stable currencies in Africa this year.
You can't build a successful country when virtually everyone is intent on undermining anything good. Buhari met it at $1/N220. He left it at $1/N800. Tinubu took it from N800 to N1,600. Before APC, I used to convert $100 for roughly 20k. After APC, $100 is now N160,000. Make it make sense. Have you thought about the impact this is having on the cost of goods? Importation? You can't "out-propaganda" a failing and falling economy, bro. |

Propaganda doesn't fix an economy. Lies do not fix an economy. Incompetence doesn't fix an economy. Sycophants don't fix an economy.
Only people with vision, brains, and intelligence can fix an economy. Obviously, the current crop of rulers that have been forced and foisted upon the country lack all three.
But as usual, stooges and praise singers will come and promote the government for making the standard of living low, and the cost of living high.
Reno, unfortunately, will drag Obi's name into this conundrum, while ignoring the parties directly responsible for this.
Helinus, yyba, coronapro, yarimo, timemanager...food is ready. Come and defend incompetence.
