Sports › Ronaldo Comes To Man Utd's Rescue Again Versus Atalanta by plethora007(op): 10:26am On Nov 03, 2021
The competition's all-time top scorer struck a sweet volley from outside the box in the 91st minute to keep United on top of Group F. However, another disjointed display bailed out by Ronaldo's brilliant finishing will do little to ease the pressure on coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian bought himself some time from the calls for him to be sacked with a 3-0 win at Tottenham on Saturday. Solskjaer's switch to a back three at the weekend resulted in some much-needed defensive solidity.

However, that was just the Red Devils second clean sheet in 22 games and their problems at the back were again easily exposed in Bergamo. The visitors could have taken an early lead when Scott McTominay's deflected shot came back off the post. But the majority of the chances were coming Atalanta's way and they made the breakthrough on 12 minutes thanks to an error from David de Gea.

The Spaniard has been one of United's best performers of a desperately disappointing season so far, but he let Josip Ilicic's shot squirm under his body. Duvan Zapata had two glorious chances to double the Italians' lead, but the Colombian firstly fired high and wide before being denied by a brilliant block by Eric Bailly.

United suffered another blow when Raphael Varane was forced off midway through the first-half with what appeared the recurrence of a groin injury. However, the individual quality in the United squad was in evidence for a brilliant equaliser in first-half stoppage time. Mason Greenwood played in Bruno Fernandes, who picked out Ronaldo with a backheel for the Portuguese to blast home his eighth goal in 12 games since returning to Old Trafford in August. But United have only won five of those games as Solskjaer continues to struggle to find the right balance goes on.

Sports › Alert At PSG: Pochettino Replaced Messi Due To Discomfort by plethora007(op): 8:30pm On Oct 30, 2021
PSG had a very difficult match against Lille. Messi was not comfortable at any time and, to make matters worse, the Argentinian was substituted at half-time.

Icardi came on in place of Messi, who, according to 'L'Équipe', was suffering from "muscular problems" after the match against Lille, the reigning Ligue 1 champions.

The alarm was raised at half-time, when Pochettino decided to change a key player in his attack, as he was being the most active alongside Neymar and Di Maria.

Sports › Laporta On Xavi: 'I Know Very Well What He Thinks Of Barca' by plethora007(op): 3:45pm On Oct 29, 2021
Laporta's enthusiastic assessment of Barcelona's legendary former midfielder will be taken as a strong indication he is their preferred successor to Koeman, who was sacked on Wednesday night.

"He is in a very interesting process," said Laporta of Xavi, who has been in charge of Al Sadd in Qatar since 2019. "He is developing very well and I have very good references about him, from people close to him and from people that know him better than me. I speak to him often. I know very well what he thinks of the team, his opinions and what he thinks should be done."

Barcelona's B team coach Sergi Barjuan has been put in temporary charge and Laporta said the expectation is he will be in the dugout for the games against Alaves in La Liga on Saturday and Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League on Tuesday. Laporta said they sacked Koeman because "the situation was not sustainable" and the team "were not on course to achieve the objectives of the season which is to win titles". He also admitted he should have dismissed the Dutchman sooner.

"Possibly we should have dismissed Koeman earlier and I take responsibility for that," said Laporta. "We thought he needed backing but we were obviously drifting."

Sports › "It's Easy To Blame Solskjaer While The Squad Earn A Fortune" by plethora007(op): 12:36pm On Oct 29, 2021
Man Utd's 0-5 defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford still hurts. The latest to give his opinion on the thrashing is Wayne Rooney.

Despite everyone singling out Solskjaer and many saying he is about to be sacked, the former footballer and now Derby County boss claimed the players are to blame.

"Are you telling me that’s the manager’s fault or the players’ fault? I don’t know, but the players have to question themselves. It’s too easy for the manager to take all the stick when those players are being paid a lot of money to do the job and I don’t think they’re doing it well enough," he said......https://9jabet.bet/2021/10/29/its-easy-to-blame-solskjaer-while-the-squad-earn-a-fortune/

Sports › Barca Begin Life Without Koeman At Home To Struggling Alaves by plethora007(op): 9:56am On Oct 29, 2021
Barca B coach Sergi Barjuan will be in charge at Camp Nou after Koeman's sacking was confirmed on Wednesday night following a 1-0 defeat by Rayo Vallecano at Vallecas.

Xavi Hernandez is reportedly close to being appointed as Koeman's replacement but the return of the club's legendary midfielder is not expected to come before the weekend.

There should be a buzz of excitement nonetheless, with the prospect of Xavi coming back to the club he joined as an 11-year-old and left in 2015 enough to stir the players and fans.

Barjuan oversaw training on Thursday afternoon, when Barcelona president Joan Laporta also addressed the squad, explaining the decision to dimiss Koeman and emphasising the onus is now on them to spark a revival.

"We're all in the same boat here," Sergio Busquets said on Wednesday night. "It's everyone's fault. For good and bad, we're a team and we have to show it on the pitch."

Two wins in seven league games have left Barca languishing in ninth, six points adrift of Real Betis in fourth.

The increasingly real possibility of failing to qualify for next season's Champions League was likely a key factor in Koeman's removal.

Finishing in the top four will be the top priority for Koeman's replacement but the other immediate objective will be to reach the Champions League knock-out stage this season, after consecutive 3-0 losses to Bayern Munich and Benfica left the team on the brink of an early exit.

Beating Dynamo 1-0 last week has given Barca hope but they will need another victory in Kiev on Tuesday against the bottom team in Group B to have any realistic chance of overhauling Benfica.

Sports › 'sport': Agreement Reached Between Xavi And Barca by plethora007(op): 11:42am On Oct 28, 2021
It is almost an open secret. Barcelona are working quickly to bring a new coach to the club and if there are no last minute changes, that will be Xavi Hernandez.

The former player feels prepared to accept the complicated roile of changing the course of the team and Joan Laporta feels there is nobody better to take over the reigns and to occupy the post of the now sacked Ronald Koeman.

Talks have been going on for days and they have accelerated in the last few hours. 'Sport' reports that there is no an agreement between the Barcelona board and Xavi Hernandez.

It is not all surprising because Xavi's desire to return to the Camp Nou is well known and he has already made history at Al Sadd with seven titles in just over two years. His time in Qatari football is more than justified.

The former player is now making the necessary steps to complete his departure from Al Sadd. He has a buyout clause of just one million euros so that will not stop him joining Barcelona...... https://9jabet.bet/2021/10/28/sport-agreement-reached-between-xavi-and-barca/

Sports › Falcao Rolls Back The Years To Increase Barcelona's Misery by plethora007(op): 10:37pm On Oct 27, 2021
Memphis Depay missed a penalty in the second half at a bouncing Vallecas as Barca's miserable start to the season under Ronald Koeman took another turn for the worse. Falcao continues to roll back the years at Rayo, this his fourth goal in six games for his new club and surely the sweetest, coming against Barca, whom he last scored against in 2013.

After losing the Clasico at home to Real Madrid on Sunday, Barcelona now sit ninth in La Liga, six points off the top and, most concerningly for the board, the gap growing between them and the top four. Barca president Joan Laporta was squeezed in amongst the home crowd and cannot have been impressed by another limp display that hardly suggested this team's form is about to improve.

Rayo stay above Barca, and only two points off fourth, maintaining their perfect record at home this term with a fifth win out of five. Falcao joined on a free transfer in the summer and after shirts with his name on the back sold out, he has so far lived up to the hype.

Only Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have better goals per game ratios in La Liga than Falcao, who replaced Sergio Aguero at Atletico Madrid in 2011 after the Argentinian left for Manchester City and now faced him again. The last time Aguero and Falcao were on the same pitch together they scored two goals each in a 5-3 win for Manchester City against Monaco, but this was Falcao's night. At 35 years and 220 days, he is the oldest player to score four or more goals in his first six games for the same club in La Liga this century.

Sports › UEFA Hope For Record-breaking Women's Euro 2022 After 12-month Delay by plethora007(op): 2:20pm On Oct 27, 2021
England will play host to the tournament from July 6-31, which hopes to smash attendance records for women's football with Manchester United's Old Trafford the setting for the opening game before a Wembley final.

The hosts are hoping home advantage will help them win a major women's international tournament for the first time.

The Lionesses have fallen at the semi-final stage in each of the last two World Cups and Euro 2017.

England are guaranteed to kick the tournament off at Old Trafford with organisers hoping for an attendance that will break the 41,300 record for a women's European Championship match.

Holders the Netherlands, France and Germany are the other top seeds and contenders for the tournament, along with Olympic silver medallists Sweden and a rapidly improving Spain side filled with Champions League winners who play their club football for Barcelona.

Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Italy, Northern Ireland, Norway, Russia and Switzerland are the other qualifiers for a tournament UEFA hopes to be the biggest European women’s sports event ever in terms of attendance.

Premier League stadiums in Brentford, Brighton and Southampton will play host to games, along with more modest venues in Leigh, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Rotherham and Sheffield.

"This was coupled with the need to strike the right balance for the tournament. Sports › France Footballer Hernandez Avoids Jail As Madrid Court Accepts Appeal by plethora007(op): 2:09pm On Oct 27, 2021
"We consider that the appeal should be upheld and the order to enter prison suspended," the court said in a statement.

The suspension of the sentence will be for a period of four years as long as Hernandez does not commit any further crime and the payment of a fine of 96,000 euros ($111,000), the court said.

Hernandez, a World Cup winner with France in 2018, was arrested four years ago in Spain for violating a court order banning him from contacting his partner after a violent altercation between the pair.

He and his partner, Amelia Lorente, were both convicted of domestic violence in February 2017.

Sports › Ancelotti On Hazard: 'I Prefer Other Players' by plethora007(op): 10:32am On Oct 27, 2021
Hazard has endured a nightmare two years riddled with injuries since joining from Chelsea for 100 million euros and he stayed on the bench during Madrid's 2-1 win over Barcelona at Camp Nou on Sunday.

The 30-year-old has only started four La Liga games this season under Ancelotti, with an unknown muscle injury the latest fitness issue to rule him out of action earlier this month.

Ancelotti says Hazard is now available again but the likes of Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo are being picked on merit.

"He has absolutely everything," said Ancelotti, ahead of Madrid's game against Osasuna on Wednesday.

"But he has to put up with it. He's not playing but he has all the characteristics of a Real Madrid player - quality and motivation - but there are times when the coach prefers other players.

"He can play. But the coach in this moment prefers other players. The important thing is he is motivated to work and to play. He is doing that and his time will come."

Sports › Legendary Former Rangers Manager Walter Smith Dies, Aged 73 by plethora007(op): 3:06pm On Oct 26, 2021
"It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our former manager, chairman and club legend, Walter Smith," Rangers said in a statement.

Smith is Rangers second-most successful ever manager, winning 21 trophies across two spells in charge.

Already at the club as assistant to Graeme Souness, Smith was appointed full-time manager at Ibrox in 1991 and won seven league titles in eight years to lead the club to a record-equalling nine consecutive Scottish league titles.

After a four-year stint at Everton and a brief spell as Alex Ferguson's assistant at Manchester United, he was appointed manager of Scotland in 2004.

In 2007, he returned to Ibrox, winning three more league titles and guiding Rangers to the UEFA Cup final in 2008 before retiring in 2011.

"It is almost impossible to encapsulate what Walter meant to every one of us at Rangers," said Rangers chairman Douglas Park.

"He embodied everything that a Ranger should be. His character and leadership was second to none, and will live long in the memory of everyone he worked with during his two terms as first team manager.

Winning 10 top-flight titles as manager, five Scottish Cups and six League Cups, as well as leading his club to the UEFA Cup Final in 2008, he will be remembered by the football community across the world.

"His spells as Scotland manager as well as managing in the English Premier League underlined his credentials as one of the great modern day football managers.

"However, for Rangers supporters, he was much more than just a football manager. Walter was a friend to many, a leader, an ambassador and most of all-a legend."

Sports › Manchester United Players Losing Faith In Solskjaer After Liverpool Defeat by plethora007(op): 9:48am On Oct 26, 2021
Some of the Manchester United players are losing faith with the club’s management and coaching staff as their run of poor results continues, Goal understands.

The 5-0 hammering from Liverpool on Sunday has piled even more pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with the team sitting seventh in the Premier League, eight points off the league leaders and with just one point from their last four league games.

What is the current situation?
United have remained staunch in their defence of Solskjaer every time his position has been questioned over his near three-year tenure, but the pressure is mounting on the Norwegian as they continue with this poor run of results.

Sources said the dressing room was flat after the defeat to Leicester at King Power Stadium 10 days ago, and despite the comeback against Atalanta in midweek the belief among some of the players is beginning to dwindle.

Following the hammering at the hands of Jurgen Klopp’s side on Sunday, it is understood that lack of faith over Solskjaer’s tactical ability has increased.

What has been said?
After the defeat a number of players were left to explain the performance in post match media interviews and they all admitted the display was not acceptable.

Luke Shaw said : “Not good enough. I know of course this game is a team sport, a team game, but I think as individuals we need to be accountable of some of the performances today. That’s why I’m here now. I’m not hiding in there [the dressing room], not speaking.

“I come out, I say wasn’t good enough and I speak on behalf of myself, not the team. I’m accountable for my performance and it wasn’t good enough. Like I said, I’m not here to speak about the team. We know we can be better but for me also I need to be better than I was today. That’s why I come here now, not hide, speak to you, and tell it how it is.”

What happens next?
Antonio Conte would be interested in the manager’s role should it become available, but Goal understands no approach has been made for the former Chelsea boss who is a free agent.

Goal understands while Solskjaer remains well liked by the squad, a number of them are concerned the manager and his coaching staff do not have what it takes to get them out of this current slump and propel them up the table.

Sports › Cristiano Mocked Solskjaer by plethora007(op): 8:53am On Oct 26, 2021
Liverpool beating 5-0 Manchester United at Old Trafford is now a historic match in the Premier League. Jurgen Klopp's men rolled over the 'Red Devils' in their own pitch as Mohamed Salah scored a hat-trick. One of the angriest and more frustrated players on the pitch was Cristiano Ronaldo.

Everyone knows about Ronaldo's desire to win and competitiveness. The word 'defeat' is not in his dictionary but on Sunday he learned a new meaning to it. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner semed mad and frustrated and had a very rude gesture towards his manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

After Liverpool scored one of the five goals, the cameras caught Ronaldo mocking Solskjaer's instructions. Later on, when the VAR ruled out Ronaldo's goal, he didn't even complain.

Ole's future at the club is being discussed for many. After the game reports claim that United would be considering the appointment of former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane.

Sports › Pedri Will Be Out For A Further Three Weeks by plethora007(op): 9:25pm On Oct 25, 2021
A setback for Pedri's recovery at Barcelona. Both 'AS' and 'Sport' confirmed that the Tenerife midfielder's injury has not healed properly and that he will therefore be out of action for a longer period of time.

Specifically, Pedri will be out of action for three more weeks. A tough blow for Barcelona, who also lost Frenkie de Jong on Sunday.

It won't be until after the November international break that Pedri will start training again with his teammates. He has gone from playing absolutely everything in a year to not being able to do so because of physical problems.

It was last Sunday when Pedri had a bad feeling in training, according to 'AS', and had to withdraw early. This Monday he underwent an MRI scan which confirmed that the injury is still there.

The source clarified that it is not a relapse as such, but that they do not want to take any kind of risk and that is why they are going to reduce the workload of the player.

The objective now is for Pedri to be fit for the derby against Espanyol in mid-November. He will therefore miss the games against Rayo Vallecano, Alaves, Dynamo Kiev and Celta, as well as the international commitments with Spain.

The intention is for Pedri to be fully recovered for Barcelona's crucial game at Camp Nou against Benfica, which will determine whether or not they qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League.

Pedri will now have to slow down the pace he had been at until Sunday. Despite his youth, the fact that he has played practically all the games last season has taken its toll on him now......https://9jabet.bet/2021/10/25/pedri-will-be-out-for-a-further-three-weeks/

Sports › Man City Blow Away Brighton After Stunning First Half Display by plethora007(op): 8:54pm On Oct 23, 2021
Pep Guardiola's men had the points sealed by half-time as Ilkay Gundogan tapped into an empty net on 13 minutes before Foden finished off two fine team moves. Alexis Mc Allister's penalty pulled a goal back for Brighton, before Riyad Mahrez put the seal on a slick City display.

Brighton remain in fourth after an impressive start to the season, but were given a lesson by the champions as they closed the gap on league leaders Chelsea back to two points. Guardiola made just two changes to the side that smashed Club Brugge 5-1 in the Champions League in midweek as Gundogan and Gabriel Jesus replaced Kevin De Bruyne and Mahrez. And Brighton were on the same end of a similar hiding.

Joao Cancelo forced a smart save from Robert Sanchez and Lewis Dunk cleared an effort from Jesus off the line early on. But the Seagulls did not help themselves with some disastrous defending for the opening goal as Sanchez dropped the ball under minimal pressure from Jesus. The Brazilian hooked the ball back across goal and Gundogan turned into an unguarded net.

Bernardo Silva's scintillating form has made the Portugal midfielder almost undroppable despite the wealth of midfield talent on offer to Guardiola. Silva was the instigator for the second goal as his defence splitting pass played Jack Grealish in behind and he unselfishly squared for his England teammate Foden to force the ball in.

There was plenty of fortune about Foden's second as he got in the way of Jesus' shot and got enough of a deflection to bamboozle Sanchez, who let the ball through his grasp.

Sports › Ronaldo's Duel With Salah Takes Centre Stage As Man Utd Face Liverpool by plethora007(op): 11:20am On Oct 23, 2021
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp risked irking United striker Ronaldo ahead of the crunch clash when he hailed Salah as the best player in the world last weekend.

The Egypt forward has been in superb form, with his sublime strikes against Manchester City and Watford already goal of the season contenders.

But Ronaldo hasn't been far behind with a series of crucial goals underlining his superstar status.

While Paris Saint-Germain duo Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe can also stake their claim to be the world's best, in the Premier League there is little doubt that Ronaldo and Salah are the main men.

So who will be this season's preeminent force?

Sunday's crucial showdown at Old Trafford will go some way to deciding that question.

Without a win in their last three league games, United are four points behind second-placed Liverpool.

United need Ronaldo to continue his knack of rising to the big occasion, while unbeaten Liverpool hope Salah can continue his blistering streak.

Salah has scored 12 times in 11 games this season, with Ronaldo netting six times in eight matches since returning to United from Juventus in August.

Salah became the first Liverpool player to score in nine consecutive games after striking twice in the Champions League win at Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

Just 24 hours later, Ronaldo stole the European spotlight with the late headed winner that completed United's fightback from two goals down to beat Atalanta 3-2.

Pogba hails Man Utd's character

On the brink of a disastrous Champions League defeat against Atalanta on Wednesday, Manchester United staged a rousing fightback to ease the pressure on boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United's recovery from two goals down was capped by Cristiano Ronaldo's winner, ensuring they avoided a fifth defeat in eight matches.

But the joy and relief that poured from the Old Trafford stands after that 3-2 victory will turn back to the jeers and angst of earlier in the match if United crash against old foes Liverpool on Sunday.

United are already four points behind second-placed Liverpool after failing to win their last three league games and another slip against Jurgen Klopp's in-form side would be a major blow to their bid for a first English title since 2013.

Days after admitting United were shooting themselves in the foot by conceding "stupid" goals, France midfielder Paul Pogba believes his team's stirring revival against Atalanta bodes well for the rest of the season.

"We showed big character, the character of this team, of this club," Pogba said.

"It was a very good result even if we didn't start well. At the end we got the result that we wanted. You could feel the belief and the positive energy just on the pitch."

Sports › Erling Haaland: From Bryne To Borussia Dortmund Star And Most Wanted Man In Foot by plethora007(op): 9:59am On Oct 22, 2021
Erling Haaland is the name on everyone's lips as Europe's elite try to get their hands on the Borussia Dortmund and Norway sensation.

Haaland is already on the cusp of half a century of Bundesliga goals, having scored 49 in 49 league appearances since swapping Salzburg for Dortmund in January 2020.

It is a remarkable return – the 21-year-old has 70 goals in 69 games for the German club overall, only Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski (89 goals in 74 games) has a better return among players from Europe's top-five leagues.

Haaland has always been a goalscorer.

Alf Ingve Berntsen spent more than eight years coaching Haaland, including several matches for Byrne's first team in 2016 following the sudden departure of Gaute Larsen.

"He was the best from the first day. Scoring a lot, smiling a lot, training a lot," Berntsen told Stats Perform as he recalled Haaland's time at Byrne, where the pair worked together between the ages of eight to 16.

Haaland was part of a group of 40 talented youngsters coached by Berntsen at Bryne.

But Haaland – even playing with older kids – always stood out in a city with a population of just over 12,200 people on the southern shores of the lake Froylandsvatnet.

"A player of that level, you can spot the class from the first day… the first day you spot something special like Erling, one way or another. You can see it from the beginning," Berntsen said.

The 18-year-old Fati committing himself for another six years carried special significance for Barcelona.

Despite all the problems they face, one of the most exciting talents in the world had pledged his future, raising hopes he can be the leader of a new generation for many years to come.

More immediately, there was the desire for camaraderie ahead of the visit of Real Madrid at Camp Nou.

It will be a chance for Barca to regain lost ground in La Liga and to round off an encouraging week that has already seen them beat Valencia and scrape a much-needed Champions League win over Dynamo Kiev.

Those two intertwining threads navigating the present while nurturing the future feel like the defining feature of this Clasico, a meeting of two historic clubs, each of them trying to strategise, fix and rebuild while simultaneously flapping their arms just to keep heads above water.

Last summer, in the same restaurant, Barcelona president Joan Laporta met Ronald Koeman to discuss the season ahead.

Laporta told Koeman he needed two weeks to assess his position as coach, which was taken to mean he would try to find a successor.

But nobody could be found, or at least persuaded, and consequently an awkward, unhappy marriage has continued.

Across from Koeman on Sunday will be Carlo Ancelotti whose appointment by Real Madrid in the summer came as a surprise.

Peter Crouch and Joleon Lescott, former Premier League players, criticized Simeone's attitude for 'BT Sports'.

"You should respect Klopp. Not saluting the rival after the game just makes you look rude", said Peter Crouch. Joleon Lescott was a little bit harsher about Simeone's manners: "It was mean. Not handshaking the rival after the game bacause you ran off, in my opinion, that's just being a coward".

Crouch understands Simeone's behavior during the game but believes he was wrong for how he left the pitch. "During the game, he was asking the supporters to support the team, he was supporting and motivating his players,...I understand all that. Leaving like that, I don't understand it", he explained.

Lescott, does not understand why he behaved like that: "He didn't seem mad about Klopp's comments before the game"......https://9jabet.bet/2021/10/20/leaving-the-pitch-without-handshaking-the-rival-is-what-cowards-do/

Sports › Fuelled By Anti-immigrant Rhetoric, Racism Still Serious Issue In Czech Stands by plethora007(op): 10:43am On Oct 20, 2021
During a Champions League qualifier in August, Sparta fans aimed monkey chants at Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni when he scored.

UEFA then banned supporters for Sparta's stadium for a Europa League game against Rangers, although it allowed some 10,000 children to attend.

However, the schoolchildren booed Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara, who was allegedly the victim of racist abuse from Slavia Prague defender Ondrej Kudela a few months earlier.

Rangers asked UEFA to act, claiming the booing was racially motivated, but UEFA dropped the investigation over "insufficient evidence" last week.

However, questions about the Czech approach to racism from football supporters persist.

Sparta spokesman Ondrej Kasik told AFP the club "took certain repressive measures aimed at specific people... including a criminal complaint" after the Monaco game.

Sparta also sent an open letter to Tchouameni to apologise, but its fans were unimpressed -- a month later, they poured racist chants onto Viktoria Plzen's black players, earning their club a fine from the Czech Football Association.

While Czech football authorities did not comment on the issue, football pundit Ludek Madl from the Seznam Zpravy news website said they took a lukewarm approach to racism.

"Every time there is a remarkable problem with racism, everyone stands up to formally condemn it and some fines are imposed, though not really substantial," he told AFP............https://9jabet.bet/2021/10/20/fuelled-by-anti-immigrant-rhetoric-racism-still-serious-issue-in-czech-stands/

Sports › Messi And Mbappe Lead PSG To Victory Against Leipzig by plethora007(op): 10:08am On Oct 20, 2021
Mbappe had given PSG the lead at the Parc des Princes but a Leipzig side beaten 6-3 at Manchester City earlier in the competition did not crumble in the French capital.

Instead goals from Andre Silva and Nordi Mukiele had them in front, and at that point PSG looked as if they might pay the price for another occasionally disjointed display.

However, they were rescued by Mbappe and Messi. The Argentinian was set up by the France star for the equaliser and then coolly chipped in a 74th-minute penalty awarded for a foul on Mbappe.

Mauricio Pochettino's team, who also saw Mbappe miss from the spot in injury time, are now top of Group A at the halfway stage, a point above City, who won 5-1 at Club Brugge earlier.

Leipzig, beaten by PSG in the semi-finals in 2020, are bottom without a point to their name.

For PSG the win was achieved without Neymar, sidelined by an adductor muscle injury.

In any case, the world's most expensive player has not really been himself this season, his one goal so far coming from the penalty spot.

While Messi has been settling in to his new surroundings, Mbappe has been the main man for PSG.

Sports › Salah Penalty Sees Liverpool Defeat 10-man Atletico In Five-goal Thriller by plethora007(op): 8:45am On Oct 20, 2021
Salah gave Liverpool the lead with another splendid goal at the Wanda Metropolitano after dancing past three Atletico defenders and firing in to make it nine consecutive games the Egyptian has scored in. But a wild contest in Madrid had several twists and turns still to come as Naby Keita doubled the advantage only for Atletico to strike twice before half-time, Antoine Griezmann pulling his team back into the match and leaving Liverpool looking temporarily dishevelled.

Yet Griezmann was sent off in the 52nd minute for a high foot into the face of Roberto Firmino and Liverpool made Atleti pay, a clumsy challenge by Mario Hermoso on Diogo Jota giving Salah the chance to win the game from the spot. Even with 10 men, Atletico thought they might have snatched a draw late on as Luis Suarez, on off the bench, prepared to take a penalty against his former club with his first touch. Instead, referee Daniel Siebert infuriated the home crowd by cancelling his decision after consulting the replay.

Liverpool move five points clear at the top of the group, with Atletico seemingly left to scrap it out with Porto for second place. They have four points each. Between his two goals, Salah was often on the fringes of a game that was high on adrenaline but low on craft and creativity. Yet the 29-year-old proved the difference again, adding his 11th and 12 goals of the season and showing why many now have him as favourite for the Ballon d'Or.

Diego Simeone's plan seemed to be to have Thomas Lemar doubling up with Yannick Carrasco when Salah moved into threatening positions but in the eighth minute, Salah just nipped past both of them. He collected the ball far out on the right towards the corner flag, danced inside Carrasco, Lemar and then finally Koke before unleashing from the edge of the box, his shot deflecting off James Milner.

Atleti had barely paused for breath when Liverpool made it two, this time Felipe with some uncharacteristically limp defending, his wild clearance plopping up to Keita, who whacked it first time on the volley into the net.

Barcelona is interested in signing a new forward in January. Barcelona's board believes Sterling is the best option available, however signing the English player seems like a tough job.

'Sport' reports that the first step Barcelona took was getting sure that Sterling would like to play for the Spanish side. Sterling said yes as he wants more playing time.

The next step for the Catalan giants is to negotiate with Manchester City, which seems a little bit more complex. The 'Citizens' have set an 80 million euros pricetag, a price that Barcelona can't pay due to their finantial crisis.

According to 'Sport', Barcelona believes that the best option to get the English international is to get him on loan in January.

Barça's intends to end up buying the footballer at the end of the season, so an the lo option to buy would be included inan deal.

'Sport' also reports that Barcelona isn't just looking to sign Sterling in January. According to the media outlet, Laporta has an agreement for a strong midfielder with international experience, which remains unknown.

Argentina captain Lionel Messi hit out at the referee, despite the in-form Copa America champions' 1-0 win against Peru in World Cup qualifying.

Lautaro Martinez's header two minutes before half-time settled Thursday's contest in Buenos Aires, where 'Albiceleste' extended their unbeaten streak to 25 matches across all competitions.

Peru wasted a chance to salvage a point when Yoshimar Yotun's penalty cannoned off the crossbar with 25 minutes remaining.

Messi reacted to Argentina remaining undefeated on the road to Qatar 2022 through eleven CONMEBOL fixtures, though it remains to be seen what he was referring to when mentioning the referee after Martinez had also gone down inside the area in the first half.

"Difficult match, difficult to play. A lot of wind, they were playing deep, leaving little space for us," Messi wrote via Instagram.

"The referee always does this when he referee's us, as if he does it on purpose. But well, three important points and we're close to our objective."

Sports › El Salvador 0-2 Mexico: Moreno And Jimenez Strike As El Tri Remain Top On Road T by plethora007(op): 8:42am On Oct 14, 2021
Hector Moreno and Raul Jimenez helped Mexico re-claim their three-point lead in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying with a 2-0 win away to El Salvador on Wednesday.

Moreno headed in Jesus Corona's 30th-minute corner before Mexico star Jimenez rounded out the win with a penalty in the third minute of stoppage time.

Hirving Lozano put an early chance wide, while Osvaldo Rodriguez also pushed a header off target before Moreno broke the deadlock with a glancing effort which crept in at the back post.

Sports › Weah, Dest Spark US World Cup Hopes As Costa Rica Beaten by plethora007(op): 7:14am On Oct 14, 2021
Weah, who plays for French champions Lille, was drafted into the US starting line-up shortly before kick-off after D.C. United's Chris Arriola suffered an injury in the warm-up.

The 21-year-old son of Liberian football icon George Weah was instrumental in the winning US goal, picking up a pass from Barcelona wingback Sergino Dest and rifling a shot towards Costa Rica goalkeeper Leonel Moreira's near-post.

Weah's effort cannoned off the woodwork and ricocheted off Moreira and into the net for an own goal by the Costa Rica goalkeeper on 66 minutes.

It completed a well-earned comeback for US coach Gregg Berhalter's young side, who recovered after falling behind to a Costa Rica goal inside the first minute from Keysher Fuller before Dest's 25th-minute equaliser.

The win in Columbus, Ohio, put the USA on top of the eight-team CONCACAF qualifying standings with 11 points from six games, although Mexico could reclaim top spot with a point or more against El Salvador later Wednesday.

"The team dug in and stuck together and I was really happy with the performance after conceding the first minute goal," US captain Tyler Adams said.

The US had suffered an upset 1-0 away defeat to Panama on Sunday, when Berhalter was criticised for making seven changes from the team that beat Jamaica last week.

Against Costa Rica on Wednesday, Berhalter returned to the nucleus of the team that had brushed aside Jamaica, making 10 changes, and his team looked a more threatening and dynamic unit as a result.

Sports › Haaland Is Already City's Number One Target And They Will Go For Him In January by plethora007(op): 12:11am On Oct 14, 2021
According to English media outlets, City will go for Haaland in January. AFP
Erling Haaland already has his first serious suitor. According to 'The Times', Manchester City will push for a deal in January to sign him in the summer.
The future of Erling Haaland will be one of the topics of conversation throughout 2022. The Norwegian is clearly aiming to leave Borussia Dortmund and in England Manchester City are already favourites to sign him.

According to 'The Times', the Sky Blue team will begin contacts in January and, therefore, Harry Kane will take a back seat after refusing to sign in 2021.

According to the aforementioned source, Manchester City will ask to meet with Mino Raiola, Haaland's agent, while Borussia Dortmund are getting used to the idea that they will lose the star and have already looked for a possible replacement.

In the Sky Blues' favour is the fact that Haaland's father, Alf-Inge, was a Manchester City player at the turn of the century, which could play an important role for Erling, a child at the time.

Although it was expected that Erling Haaland could leave for 75 million euros from Borussia Dortmund, the latest figures speak of 90 million euros as a more realistic figure. In addition, Raiola's commissions and the transfer fee will have to be included, which will push the price up to a figure that only football's new billionaires could afford.

In addition to Manchester City, other Premier League giants such as Manchester United and Liverpool, and teams such as PSG, Real Madrid and to a lesser extent Barcelona, are all tracking the young talent.

Sports › "Cavani Has Been Unlucky, Without Cristiano He Would Be In The Starting XI" by plethora007(op): 8:23pm On Oct 13, 2021
Edinson Cavani has gone from being a starter at United to having played just 117 minutes so far this season. Poyet believes that Cristiano's return has condemned him at his club, and that the best thing for him would be to leave as soon as possible.

This is how Gustavo Poyet explained it, interviewed by 'TalkSport'. "He was unlucky, because without Ronaldo coming in, he was playing as the main striker," he explained.

"The decision of Juventus, Man City getting involved, incredibly went against one person especially – and that was Cavani," Poyet added.
The Uruguayan coach felt that the best thing for his compatriot is to leave United as soon as possible. "Maybe he should move in January. From the outside, I don’t know him, but if I was him, seeing how things are now, and seeing him not getting to 90 minutes for the national team because he’s not playing – maybe," he said.
