DI MARÍA MOISE KEAN The Blaugrana captain put his side ahead at Camp Nou with a penalty but Ronald Koeman's side capitulated in the second half of a chastening 4-1 defeat There was enthusiasm, there was spirit, but ultimately there was Kylian Mbappe and a brutal reality check for Barcelona. Ronald Koeman’s side suffered a crushing 4-1 defeat by Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night in the Champions League last 16, and they will need another ‘remontada’ to get out of this one. It doesn’t look likely. Their whole season is almost over, in terms of potential trophies, but this campaign never seemed promising on that front after last summer’s 8-2 annihilation by Bayern Munich and Lionel Messi’s foiled attempt to flee. |

*THE MANGO, COCONUT AND BITTER LEAF* Listen my Son, your antagonists will increase at every second of your progress. My entrepreneur father said some few years ago. One day he said, walk with me, I have something to show you. He went to the *mango tree* at the backyard, and requested I pluck a fruit from the tree. Actually the ripe one. I looked carefully and replied; dad, I can't see any ripe one here. He stared at me for few seconds, this time, my heartbeat increased. He had actually warned me to be prudent like King Solomon anytime I come close to him because the race is not for the ignorant anymore. I adjusted my breath for another few seconds, I said again; dad, I can't find any ripe MANGO. Beautiful, he said, with a confident tone. Then he continued...... Nobody will know you when you are not ripped. Nobody will attack you when your glory isn't showing. At this stage, you are like the unripe fruit. Ignored and overlooked because your fruit is not nutritional. *Here is your first lesson Son, don't fight to be seen or noticed, rather work to get your fruit to be ripened.* It's the nature of man to ignore people who are not productive. *To be noticed, work more on your seed.* Come with me, this time, he took me to the coconut tree. Look around here and pluck two fruits for me. I looked critically at *the coconut tree,* it was tall and uneasy to get, so I carefully took a big stick and hit it from afar and it fell loudly to the ground. Then I gave the two fruits to him. Then he said, *Here is it Son, the more productive you become, the more enemies you attract just like the coconut tree.* It's the nature of man to come for you because you are ripe. They attack you just like you attack the coconut tree. *Don't be moved, it is your right to fulfill destiny no matter the attack on you.* Keep growing. You are growing for two purposes. *One, as a shade for those that are helpless to hide and two, as a fruit for those that are hungry to eat from*. Understand this, your *COURSE* is beyond the attacker. Grow your lens of reasoning if you will last long as a fruitful tree. You see that coconut tree, no matter how many you pluck, it won't dry up because of you. It will keep producing more coconut. It is because it produces more that makes it relevant in my compound. If not, I would have uprooted it a long time ago. Just because your partner betrays your love doesn't stop you from loving someone else. You are productive, and you need to show your commitment as a tree that is fruitful, not as a tree that dries up, because of one person that plucks from it. Just because someone defrauds you, is not enough reason not to trust. *Trust is part of what makes your tree productive. Keep trusting till it gets you to your breakthrough.* Just because some people don't like what you do is not enough reason not to like yourself. *Be your first admirer. Treat yourself with so much love and respect*. Nature will command people to take the course of likeness on you. See Son, look at that *bitter leaf* at the other side of the compound, go and taste it. I moved a bit and I said, dad, I don't really like it. He smiled and said, *This shows that, not everyone will like what you are, but you must never allow that to determine how you grow.* That bitter leaf is never scared of growing no matter the hatred you have towards it because it knows, one day, you will come looking for it and it will be your only saviour at that time. You will give it all the attention you thought you couldn't give. Don't stop growing Son. *When your enemies increase for no reason, pay attention, your success is taking another dimension they can't handle, the effect is dimensional*. The bitter leaf will attract enemies because of the kind of projection and growth it takes but sooner, it will be the ultimate search for many. *You can be the ultimate search for someone tomorrow,* so *learn to improve your skills of growth today*. *You are not growing to compete with the next person.* Coconut trees don't compete with the apple tree, their seasons of growth and cycle are different. Learn to apply this in your journey in life. Your competition is not with someone else. It is God who brought you on this journey and he knows when your fruit will ripe, so don't envy others when their fruit ripens. *Seasons of growth is what matters. Move and grow at your own pace*. May the good Lord strengthen us all Amen. *This is a very interesting post and I want everyone to benefit.* |

Olivier Giroud became France’s second top scorer when he netted a double to take his international tally to 42 goals as the world champions crushed an injury and COVID-19-ravaged Ukraine 7-1 in a friendly in a near-empty Stade de France. Giroud, who celebrated winning his 100th cap, found the back of the net twice in the second half to move within nine goals of Thierry Henry’s French scoring record. The Chelsea striker leapfrogged Michel Platini, who scored 41 goals from 72 games between 1976-87. The other goals came from the 17-year-old Eduardo Camavinga, who became the youngest France scorer since 1914, an own goal by Vitaliy Mykolenko, Corentin Tolisso, Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann, while Ukraine reduced the arrears through Viktor Tsygankov. Camavinga put France ahead on nine minutes with a clever overhead kick after Giroud’s header had been parried by Heorhiy Bushchan... https://9jabet.bet/2020/10/08/giroud-moves-to-second-in-france-scorers-list/

Premier League summer spending was only slightly down from recent years but it was much higher than Europe’s other top leagues, as the transfer window closed. Clubs spent £1.218bn, £158m down on last year’s £1.376bn, says investment company Carteret Analytics. There were 12 deadline-day Premier League signings on Monday, 5 October – the fewest total in recent years. Arsenal signed Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey for £45.3m in the biggest deal of the day. The deadline was later than usual as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and the season starting later. The previous two Premier League windows had closed before the more traditional start to the season in August... https://9jabet.bet/2020/10/06/transfer-deadline-day-premier-league-summer-spending-far-above-other-top-leagues/

Plans for fans to return to watch live sport events in England from 1 October will not go ahead, says cabinet office minister Michael Gove. The plans were placed under review earlier this month after a rise in coronavirus cases, with pilot events restricted to 1,000 people. The UK's Covid-19 alert level has moved to 4, meaning transmission is "high or rising exponentially". New measures will be set out by Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Tuesday. Speaking to BBC Breakfast, Gove confirmed plans for a staged return of fans would be "paused". "We were looking at a staged programme of more people returning - it wasn't going to be the case that we were going to have stadiums thronged with fans," he said. "We're looking at how we can, for the moment, pause that programme, but what we do want to do is to make sure that, as and when circumstances allow, get more people back. "The virus is less likely to spread outdoors than indoors but again it's in the nature of major sporting events that there's a lot of mingling." The pilot programme will also be paused. The majority of sports in England have been played behind closed doors since the coronavirus lockdown in March, including Premier League football, the FA Cup final, England's Test cricket matches and two Formula 1 races at Silverstone. Sport events that took place with full crowds in March shortly before all fixtures were postponed and the UK locked down have come under scrutiny. The impact of Liverpool's Champions League fixture with Atletico Madrid on the spread of coronavirus is being investigated by the city's council, while there have also been calls for an investigation into whether the Cheltenham Festival should have gone ahead. The government defended its decision to allow such events to go ahead before restrictions on mass gatherings were introduced... https://9jabet.bet/2020/09/22/plans-for-fans-to-return-to-sport-events-in-october-called-off/

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has topped the Forbes list for highest-earning footballers in 2020. Forbes estimated Messi’s yearly earnings at $126m (£97.2m) with Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo second on $117m (£90.3m). Neymar was in third with Paris St-Germain team-mate Kylian Mbappe fourth. Three Premier League players – Mohamed Salah, Paul Pogba and David de Gea – made the top 10, as did Real Madrid and Wales forward Gareth Bale. Welshman Bale came eighth in the list at $29m (£22.4m) despite a disappointing 2019-20 season, on a personal level, which saw him fall out with Real boss Zinedine Zidane and only feature in two of his club’s last 14 matches of the campaign. Liverpool forward Salah was fifth, ahead of Manchester United midfielder Pogba in sixth, with United goalkeeper De Gea in 10th. Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann was seventh and Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski was ninth. The top three were in the same order as in 2019, although Mbappe rose three places from seventh to fourth. Argentine Messi, 33, tried to leave Barcelona this summer and submitted a transfer request in August, but decided to stay because no club would be able to afford his release clause. A depleted Paris St-Germain side began their Ligue 1 campaign with a surprise loss against newly promoted Lens. The match was in doubt after Champions League finalists PSG had seven players, including star striker Kylian Mbappe, test positive for coronavirus. Lens took full advantage on their return to the top flight as Ignatius Ganago punished goalkeeper Marcin Bulka’s error to net the winning goal. The match was played in front of 5,000 fans at Lens’ Stade Bollaert-Delelis. PSG have won seven of the past eight top-flight titles including last season when the campaign was ended early because of the coronavirus pandemic. Thomas Tuchel’s side finished 12 points clear at the top of the table. Brazil forward Neymar, compatriot Marquinhos and Argentina internationals Angel di Maria and Mauro Icardi were all missing for the visitors. It proved costly as third-choice goalkeeper Bulka presented the ball straight to Ganago to fire home the only goal of the game in the second half. Harry Maguire’s legal team has lodged an appeal against the guilty verdict that led to him receiving a suspended jail sentence of 21 months and 10 days in Greek court, Manchester United say. In accordance with Greek law, the appeal nullifies Maguire’s conviction and there will be a full retrial in a more senior court. The sentence, given on Tuesday, is suspended for three years. The 27-year-old is likely to remain as United captain for the upcoming season. A Manchester United statement said: “An appeal against yesterday’s verdict was lodged this morning by Harry’s legal team. “This means that Harry has no criminal record and is once again presumed innocent until proven guilty. Accordingly, he is not subject to any international travel restrictions.” Tuesday’s trial came after Maguire was arrested following an alleged altercation on the Greek island of Mykonos. The England defender was named United’s permanent captain in January after the departure of Ashley Young to Inter Milan. https://9jabet.bet/2020/08/27/harry-maguire-man-utd-captains-legal-team-lodges-appeal-against-guilty-verdict/

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen signed his African record deal to Napoli from Lille on Friday, and was quarantined by Nigerian health officials thereafter. The deal, worth €70m, which could rise to €80m with bonuses, was completed before the player traveled to Nigeria for holiday, our correspondent gathered from his agent Osita Okolo. “We are hoping they (Napoli and Lille) announce the deal soon as they promised.” “He signed for Napoli last Friday. There was no way Osimhen would have left for Nigeria without completing his deal to Napoli.” Meanwhile, Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze have been quarantined in isolation in Lagos after the duo arrived Nigeria aboard a private aircraft on Monday on holidays. The 21-year-old striker underwent similar self-isolation when he arrived in the country in May for his father’s burial alongside Paul Onuachu and Imoh Ezekiel. It is the third time the player has been isolated since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in March. He was isolated on his return for his father’s burial and was also quarantined when he returned to France to regroup with his club... https://9jabet.bet/2020/07/30/osimhen-quarantined-after-sealing-e80m-napoli-deal/

Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp has been named the League Managers’ Association manager of the year. Klopp’s team won the Premier League – the Reds’ first English top-flight title for 30 years. Emma Hayes recently won the FA Women’s Super League manager of the year award after leading Chelsea to the title. Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa won the Championship award after guiding his side to the title and promotion to the Premier League. In announcing Klopp as the winner on Sky Sports, former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said: “It was thoroughly deserved. “The performance level of your team was outstanding. Your personality runs right through the whole club. “I’ll forgive you for ringing me at half past three in the morning to tell me you had won the league – thank you!” Klopp’s side amassed 99 points as they won the Premier League title by 18 points from second-placed Manchester City. “I’m absolutely delighted to be named the winner of the League Managers Association manager of the year award, for this wonderful Sir Alex Ferguson trophy, named after a man that I admire so much,” said Klopp. “I know it’s not 100% appropriate as a Liverpool manager – but I admire him. He was the first British manager I met and we had breakfast together. It was long ago and I’m not sure if he remembers it still, but I remember it forever because it was for me in this moment like meeting the Pope if you want... https://9jabet.bet/2020/07/28/lma-awards-liverpools-jurgen-klopp-named-manager-of-the-year/

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy became the oldest player to win the Premier League Golden Boot after finishing the season with 23 goals. The 33-year-old ended up a goal clear of Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Southampton striker Danny Ings, both on 22. Vardy is the ninth English player to win or share the Golden Boot. Last season Liverpool duo Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah and Arsenal’s Aubameyang shared it with 22 each. Vardy still finished clear despite failing to score on the final day as Leicester lost 2-0 to Manchester United to miss out on a Champions League place. “It’s a wonderful individual achievement,” said Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers. “We wouldn’t be where we are without his quality and goals. “He’s a joy to work with, has a great mentality and has such quality. It’s a huge accolade and we’re all delighted for him.” Former England striker Vardy scored more in 2015-16, Leicester’s title-winning season, with 24 goals – but missed out that time to Harry Kane’s 25... https://9jabet.bet/2020/07/27/premier-league-golden-boot-leicester-citys-jamie-vardy-wins-with-23-goals/

Juventus missed out on the chance to wrap up the Serie A title as they fell to what boss Maurizio Sarri called a “messy” defeat at struggling Udinese. Juve, who have been Italian champions for exactly 3,000 days, need to win one of their final three games to win their ninth title in a row. They led through Matthijs de Ligt’s powerful drive. But Ilija Nestorovski headed in an equaliser before Seko Fofana’s brilliant winner in injury time. As Juve pushed for a winner, Fofana ran from the halfway line, beat Alex Sandro for pace before cutting inside De Ligt and slotting the ball under Wojciech Szczesny. “We paid for a lack of order after a good first half,” said Sarri, whose future is reportedly in doubt. “We wanted to win at all costs, we were messy and we took the game on a dangerous track and lost it on 93 minutes because we wanted the three points. “At this stage of the season, it is difficult, we are all tired. We have lost aggression. “It’s complicated to stay mentally and physically on the ball for 90 minutes. The games are strange and the momentum changes very easily. The mental fatigue is more than the physical fatigue.” Cristiano Ronaldo has been overtaken by Lazio striker Ciro Immobile in the golden boot race. Immobile scored his 31st goal of the season in Lazio’s 2-1 win over Cagliari to take him one above Ronaldo’s total... https://9jabet.bet/2020/07/24/juventus-misses-chance-to-seal-title-after-shock-defeat-to-udinese/

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson lifted the Premier League trophy on the Kop at a near-empty Anfield to mark the club’s first top-flight triumph for 30 years. Henderson received the trophy from Reds legend Sir Kenny Dalglish, who was manager when Liverpool last won it in 1990, during a spectacular ceremony after the champions beat Chelsea 5-3. Liverpool were confirmed as champions on 25 June with seven games to spare, when nearest rivals Manchester City lost at Chelsea, but they had to wait until their final home game of the season to be presented with the trophy. They did so in front of their families, who were given special permission to attend the trophy presentation. “We’ve been waiting a long time,” said Henderson, who is recovering from a knee injury. “Walking up there was amazing, the lads deserved the moment and thankfully the families were watching. “To crown it off like that was really special.” There were no supporters in their 53,000-capacity Anfield home after the Premier League season resumed on 17 June behind closed doors following a three-month suspension because of the coronavirus pandemic. Merseyside Police had warned fans not to repeat the widespread gatherings that took place on the city’s waterfront after the club’s title win last month – amid fears of a spike in infections – and Reds boss Jurgen Klopp urged them to celebrate at home. A small group of fans, some with red flares, greeted the team coach when it arrived at the ground before kick-off, and fireworks were set off outside Anfield throughout the match... https://9jabet.bet/2020/07/23/liverpool-premier-league-trophy-lift-special-ceremony-to-mark-success/

Mikel Arteta said Arsenal’s season “is not good enough for this club” after defeat at Aston Villa confirmed their worst finish since 1995. The Gunners can now finish no higher than eighth in the Premier League after Trezeguet’s strike gave Villa three massive points. “It has to hurt and we have to suffer, it’s not good enough for this club,” Arteta said. “We need to improve in many areas, the team and individually.” Arsenal qualified for the Champions League every season for 20 years under former manager Arsene Wenger but now must beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final on 1 August to play in the Europa League next year. They last played Champions League football in the 2016-17 season and will go into Sunday’s final league game against Watford at least nine points short of the top four. They last failed to finish in the top six in 1994-95 – when caretaker manager Stewart Houston oversaw a 12th-placed finish after George Graham’s departure in February. A plane flew a banner across Villa Park reading “Back Arteta Kroenke Out” as fans showed their opposition to owner Stan Kroenke during the defeat. https://9jabet.bet/2020/07/22/arsenal-season-not-good-enough-mikel-arteta/

Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, has been handed a six-month medical suspension after he broke the nose of Jorge Masvidal. Masvidal was also suspended for 30 days due to a forehead laceration in his defeat. Alex Volkanovski, Max Holloway and Petr Yan are the other fighters suspended. Usman, who is expected to face Gilbert Burns in his next bout, said he would prefer to face Georges St-Pierre, who retired in 2017. “Honestly I would have to say Georges St-Pierre,” the seventh-ranked pound-for-pound UFC fighter told TMZ Sports. “Right now we’re tied for the record, most consecutive wins in the welterweight division. “Georges is a tough guy, Georges is a legend, Georges is a guy that’s been around for a while. “(He) has put his time in and is considered as one of the best, and that’s where I aim to be. “Georges can still do it, he proved it two years ago when he came back, I feel he’s still able to do it. “I feel he’s still able to come in and be that opponent that people are unsure like you know what, ‘we don’t know if Usman has got this one,’ and I think that Georges St-Pierre can be that guy. “If Georges wants to do it, Georges can get it too.” ... https://9jabet.bet/2020/07/20/usman-gets-six-month-medical-ban/

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez described Zinedine Zidane as a “blessing from heaven” after he delivered the club their 34th La Liga title on Thursday. Perez also said he believes Sergio Ramos will end his career at Madrid, despite uncertainty over the 34-year-old’s future, with his contract due to expire next year. Madrid defeated Villarreal 2-1 at the empty Alfredo di Stefano Stadium to secure the victory they needed to clinch the title from Barcelona with one game left to play. The trophy is Zidane’s 11th after 209 games in charge of Real Madrid. “He has won a trophy every 19 games,” said Perez. “He is a blessing from heaven and hopefully he will be with us for a long time. People can criticise him as much as they want as long as he continues to win titles.” https://9jabet.bet/2020/07/17/real-madrid-president-says-zidane-is-a-blessing-from-heaven/
