PoliticsDelta State Is The Most Polluted Environment In The Country – Idodo-umeh by pmonni(op): 5:36am On Jul 24, 2014
—-DELTA–Dr. Idodo-Umeh praying for Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege Omonigho Oniovosa

An educationist and a former Commissioner in the defunct Bendel State, Dr. George Idodo-Umeh has described Delta State as the State with the highest concentration of pollution in the country.

Dr. Idodo-Umeh while playing host to a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in the 2015 General Election, Obaisi Ovie Omo-Agege who had paid him a consultative visit ahead of the election, charged Omo-Agege that aside from unemployment and security in the State, he should ensure that environmental safety should be his priority.

According to him, “Crime is fallout of the level of unemployment in the country today. The rich seems to be sleeping, but they actually are not due to the high level of crime as a result of the unemployment.”

Liking Omo-Agege to the Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the former Commissioner applauded commended him for his passion and desire to continue on the developmental programs of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.

Speaking earlier, Omo-Agege while extolling the educational contribution of Idodo-Umeh said, “I grew up reading your books and it is based on this that I told myself that, you being an educationist and a political leader, I must consult you on my political aspirations for our State.”

PoliticsThe Peoples’ Will As Expressed, Portends Danger For Nigeria Future – ADELABU by pmonni(op): 7:49pm On Jul 19, 2014
Chief Adelabu Ejiroghene Bodjor, is a Delta State-born astute politician who believes in playing the game of politics with fairness and objectivity. He is the chairman of the All Progressive Party (APC) in Delta Central and the Vice chairman of the party at the State level. In this interview with newsmen, he spoke on the preparation of the party towards the October 25, 2014 Local Government Election and the just-concluded governorship election in Ekiti State. Excerpts:

A few months ago, the APC concluded its congress in the state. What position accrued to you from that congress?

By way of introduction, I’m Adelabu Ejiroghene Bodjor. I’m the Vice Chairman of the APC, Delta State and the Chairman of the party in Delta Central Senatorial district.

From what we can see on ground, the ruling party in the state, the PDP, has been organizing rallies across the state of recent, sensitizing its members and the electorate towards the October 25, Local Government Election and by extension, the 2015 election. But we are not seeing any presence of the APC anywhere in the state. Is it that your party is not ready for the election or you have already conceded defeat to the PDP?

The APC will surely take part. If you recall, we just concluded our national convention and the APC is a party that believes in taking its time to do things and doing them well. We don’t belong to the group of people who feel that jumping all over the place, making noise all over the place without delivering the necessary dividends of democracy is worth all the trouble. We are making our plans, the blueprints are there, any moment from now we are going to roll out the plans and everybody will be aware that APC have come, as they have always said, they are poised to take over the reins of power in Delta State.

During the PDP rallies across the state we witnessed a lot of APC members cross-carpeting to the PDP especially in Delta Central. Are you concerned about this development?

It is a criss-cross affair. Just as they are crossing to PDP, so also are PDP members crossing to APC. We are all Nigerians. For anyone who feels he is tired of staying in the dark, he pulls out. For those who want to go back to Egypt, you allow them to go back to Egypt. If they want to continue to wallow in dubious ways of doing things and rendering the masses of Nigeria useless, leave them hungry, no jobs and if that is what they want, let them go back. It is their business. But for those who have seen the light, they are still coming back from the PDP in droves into the APC. We don’t believe in noise-making. And there are very many of them underground pretending they are in PDP, whereas they are with us. I can assure you of that.

For the first time in this political dispensation, Nigerians saw an opposition party, APC, that emerged seemingly prepared to give the PDP a fight for its money. But what happened in the just-concluded governorship election in Ekiti State, a State hitherto reputed to be a strong-hold of the APC, where the PDP turned the table round with a resounding victory must be a source of concern to you I think. This is more so, when the defeated former governor, Mr. Fayemi has conceded, describing the election to be free and fair. What is your take on this?

The development in Ekiti State is a welcome development in Nigeria. Free and fair election is gradually taking its roots. The only thing we need to correct here is the parameters of judging who wins and who loses. The problem we have discovered in Ekiti State is that the former governor, Fayemi was busy building roads and putting infrastructure in place for posterity. But what the electorate wanted was somebody who would give them a bag of rice to eat, five hundred naira to take home, and that is what the PDP saw as a catcher. For now it has worked, but let me tell you, we need a re-orientation, we need to teach our people. The good thing about that Ekiti election is that, yes, the people said this is what they want, so let it be. But let that thing be replicated in Delta State where the PDP has always been rejected but they go through the back door to always claim victory.

But what transpired in Ekiti State appears to be similar to what has been happening in Delta State over the years. Opposition claims the government has done nothing tangible except dolling out bags of rice and salt to the electorate during elections and at the end the party, declares victory. Does it confirm that, that is what the electorate actually want?

The scenario in Delta State has been so far different from what has taken place in Ekiti State. In Delta State it has been sheer open display of brigandage, looting and snatching of ballot boxes and stuffing. That was not the lot of Ekiti State. We must be fair to say, yes, for once, INEC has done a good job. They should replicate the same thing over the nation. And if that is done, Delta State will definitely never remain in the hands of the PDP again.

A few years ago, the incumbent chairman of the PDP in the state, Chief Barr Peter Nwaoboshi made a statement in Ogwashi-Uku telling the Local Government chairman of the Council then that if he likes, he should nylon-tar all the roads in Council area and possibly put air conditioners in them, if the people don’t have food to eat and no money in their pockets, then he (the chairman) has failed. Does this ally with the will of the people of Ekiti state which they expressed in the election? And if so, what does it portend for the future of democracy and the electorate?

Danger! It portends a whole lot of danger for the Nigerian nation. Earlier on, I told you that, yes, we got it right in Ekiti. But certain things were wrong. And those basic things that were wrong must be corrected if we must enjoy the dividends of democracy the way it is done all over the world. Now, a situation where you make people believe that giving fish to people is the in-thing in this 21st century is most appalling. Most appalling, it is shameful and it is unacceptable. We should teach our people how to fish, not allow them to come cap-in-hand to beg for fish and they vote for you. So, we need to teach them that we have a future, and we need to plan for our future and the only way we can plan for our future and lay legacies for our children is to conscientiously vote for those that are working for the betterment of tomorrow, not for the bread and butter of today that cannot stand the test of time.

Let’s talk about your party’s convention which you said has just been held. At the national level, there seems to be some bickering here and there with the youth wing of the party kicking against the party’s choice of a 53 years old man as a national youth leader, etc. At the state level here, your congress was also marred with protests which are yet to be resolved. With all these happening few months to the elections, do you foresee the APC mobilizing strong enough to wrestle power from the PDP?

You will agree with me that there is no house where there are no skirmishes and no quarrels. Even in the PDP, there are quarrels, there are disgruntled people. It is politics. Somebody must get injured because everybody wants to get it. Two persons cannot get just one thing that is there. So, the tendency is for the person who could not get it to protest that he has been shortchanged and all that. It is normal. And that will definitely calm down. It is not a new thing; it is not peculiar to APC. It is all over the world. And even if we have to limit ourselves to Nigeria, PDP is engrossed in such problem, you go to Adamawa and see what is happening there, you go to Oyo, you go to Ogun State, you go to Kwara, anywhere you go to, there are issues here and there. But it is the ability of the leadership of the party to manage them that matters and APC is blessed with an array of hands and brains that can perfectly handle all the issues and at the end of the day, we will create a win-win situation and everybody will be happy, both at the state and at the national level.

Nairaland GeneralIjaw Rejects Confab Recommendation On Creation Of Additional 18 States by pmonni(op): 4:01am On Jul 18, 2014
The Ijaw ethnic nationality on Friday, rejected the recommendation of the National Confab on the creation of eighteen additional states, saying it was skewed in favour of some ethnic nationalities.
Spokesman of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) worldwide, Comrade Eric Omare, in a statement issued in Yenagoa said the Ijaw being the fourth largest ethnic nationality was deliberately left out in the proposed state creation exercise in furtherance of its marginalization by the Nigerian state.
The IYC said, though the Ijaw ethnic nationality made a request for the creation of two additional states to wit: Toru-Ebe State from the present Delta, Edo and Ondo States and Oil Rivers State from the present Rivers and Akwa Ibom States, the conference committee on Political Restructuring and Forms of Government recommended creation of additional 18 states across the country without considering the Ijaw requests.
Omare said, “It is totally unacceptable for the Conference to recommend the creation of additional 18 states without considering the requests of the Ijaw Ethnic Nationality, which is Nigeria’s 4th largest tribe.
“The conference recommendations are geared towards empowering some ethnic nationalities to have more political control to the detriment of other ethnic nationalities in Nigeria and in total disregard to the political marginalisation and oppression of the Ijaws of Delta, Edo and Ondo states who requested for the creation of Toru-Ebe State and the Ijaw of Rivers and Akwa Ibom states who requested for the creation of Oil Rivers State.
“It is on record that the Ijaw were the first to demand for a region of their own, even before the Nigerian independence in 1960.
“At that time, there were only three regions in Nigeria which today has increased to 36 states and if Confab recommendations are implemented, they would now be 54 to 55 states out of which the North would have 28 states; Yoruba: 9 states; Ibos: 9 states, with additional two to three in south-south, but Ijaw that is the fourth largest tribe that requested for a region of their own even before independence and their leader Major Isaac Boro declared a 12 Day Republic partly because of state creation, would have only one state: Bayelsa State.
The IYC would not and will never allow Ijaw resources to be exploited to fund and develop other states to the detriment of the Ijaws. And without creation of Toru-Ebe and Oil Rivers States to liberate the politically oppressed Ijaw, the Ijaw people would have no other option than to reconsider their position in Nigeria.
“In the coming days, Ijaw Youth leaders would meet to take a position, especially to consider the role of Ijaw delegates at the ongoing National Confab, who have been docile without an agenda.”

Nairaland GeneralBayelsa Residents Lament Doctors’ Strike by pmonni(op): 12:44am On Jul 18, 2014
Tamuno Briggs
The patients who tried to access health care services at the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, and other public hospitals in Yenagoa are lamenting the impact of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), strike.
The NMA embarked on a nationwide strike over disagreements with the government on the running of the health sector, as well as other labour issues.

The Bayelsa State Chairman of NMA, James Omietimi, confirmed on Monday that doctors at the Federal Medical Centre and the Bayelsa State government owned hospitals have downed tools.
He said that the association had put in place a mechanism to monitor the compliance of its members with the strike.
According to him, the monitoring team was scheduled to meet in the evening to review the success of the strike action and the strategy adopted.
The out patients services have been the worst hit by the strike in most of the hospitals. At the hospitals visited by Advocate, hundreds of patients were dismissed at the General Out Patients Departments, where few consultants rendered skeletal services, while the patients gathered in groups discussing the strike outside the waiting hall.
Some of the patients lamented the negative effect of the strike, saying it was taking a toll on public health, as patients were bearing the brunt of it.
“It has been very painful waiting endlessly for several hours to see just two consultants on duty here, remember some of the cases are chronic and cannot wait.,” James Ekio, a patient, said.
“It is regrettable that government is so insensitive to allow this strike to degenerate to this level, it should be noted that they had gone on warning strike in January which is more than six months ago.
“The people suffering are the poor masses who cannot afford medical service at private hospitals, see the crowd here waiting, those who can afford to have gone to private clinics,” Mr. Ekio said.
Sylvia Douglas, who was seen leaving the hospital, said she resolved to go to a private clinic to treat her baby when she heard that doctors were going on strike.
“I used to go to Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital in Okolobiri but on hearing that there is strike I changed my mind to take my daughter to a private clinic,” she said.
Another Patient, Johnson Tari, urged the government to save millions of Nigerians who can neither afford foreign medical trips nor private clinics.
“For those of them in government, they can always travel abroad for medicare but what about the majority of the impoverished people? There is God ooo,” Mr. Tari said‎.

FamilyCourt Dissolves 13years Marriage Over Childlessness by pmonni(op): 12:21am On Jul 18, 2014
Patrick Nkem
An Asaba customary court in Delta State, recently dissolved a 13-year-old marriage between Ogbueshi Henry Oduke and Roseline Oduke over childlessness.
Oduke, 52, a resident of Ogbe-Ilo, Asaba had earlier prayed the court to dissolve his marriage to Roseline over childlessness.
He told the court that his wife confessed, during sexual intercourse, that she cannot bear children, as her womb was removed following series of abortion while she was unmarried, adding that all efforts via different native doctors and orthodox doctors to bring back her womb proved abortive.
According to the petitioner, “my lord, my wife confessed to me during sexual intercourse that she cannot have a child because her womb was removed while she was 21, following series of abortions. My lord I want an end to this marriage because I cannot continue to suffer and endure an unproductive marriage with a woman who is not fruitful.”
During cross-examination by the counsel to the petitioner, Barr Emeka Odili, the woman admitted that she reached an agreement reached with the husband before they got married.

PoliticsOshiomole Is A Shoe Shiner– Ogboru by pmonni(op): 3:57pm On Jul 10, 2014
Oshiomole can’t match Uduaghan on Development– Ogboru
…Says Oshiomole is shoe shiner

Oghenevwarho Ogbemudia

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan on Community Affairs, Chief Julius Ogboru has stated that the Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomole can’t match; Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan in the area of developmental projects across the state.

Ogboru made this statement while commenting on the finishing strong slogan of the administration and noted that the Governor has done well in his three point agenda, in many areas, such as completed and ongoing infrastructures projects, free health care service for Children from 0-5 years and his micro credit scheme that is still on till date are evidences of his good administration.

While noting that among the 36 states of the federation, Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan is the only Governor that has come up with a peculiar programme of “Delta Beyond Oil”, describing the Governor as a man with high innovation and good intention for the people of Delta state. He therefore called on Deltans to continue to support his administration to experience more dividends of democracy across the state.

According to Chief Ogboru, “When you are far from the government, you feel the government is not doing anything but having started working with the state government, I now see that sometimes we stayed at a distance and start criticizing the government over things we know nothing about. A close look at what the administration of Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has done and that of our sister state, Edo, you will agree with me that Governor Comrade Adams Oshiomole is shoe shiner as against the impression the people are having.”

“Take a drive around Edo state and do same in Delta state, that will convince you that truly, Oshiomole is a shoe shiner compared to the rapid development and the wonders the state Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan is performing in the state, more practical things that are on ground if you have visited Warri, Effurun, Sapele, Ughelli and Asaba area, you will be left with no other statement, but conclude that Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan is a performing Governor.”

Ogboru had advised all Deltans to support the administration of Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan in order to actualize the three point agenda and to finish stronger than ever, adding that Deltans should learn how to appreciate the good work of the incumbent Governor, saying that governance is not an easy task as a lot of people feel.

PoliticsRivers Crisis Is About 2015 - Amaechi by pmonni(op): 7:35am On Jul 28, 2013
Embattled governor of Rivers State, Chubike Amaechi has maintained that the crisis rocking his state is as a result of belief by some interest groups that he was preparing to contest the 2015 general elections.

There has been growing insinuations across the country that the Rivers governor will contest the 2015 Presidential election as running mate to Jigawa state governor, Sule Lamido.

Speaking on the Hausa service of thje British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) monitoresd in Kaduna, Amaechi said his primary concern was to govern and deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Rivers state.

He noted that it was rather too early for anyone to be talking about contesting the 2015 elections and dismissed insinuations that he was teaming up with those opposed to President Goodluck Jonathan because of his (Amaechi’s) 2015 ambition.

According to him, those who are supporting him were not supporting him because they want him to be president, but because of they think governors are the ones to decidewho should lead them in the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF).

Amaechi whose response in English to the questions was interpreted in Hausa language stressed that it will be wrong for anybody to say he would want to run for 2015 elections now although he admitted that the political crisis in his state was tight to a lot of assumption by some people about what is going to happen in 2015.

PoliticsDame Patience, Our President’s Darling Wife’ – An Opinion By Reuben Abati In 2 by pmonni(op): 6:16am On Jul 22, 2013
Reuben Abati became President Jonathan’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity in 2011, he was a newspaper columnist and the chairman of the editorial board of the Guardian Newspaper (2001 to 2011). here’s a 2010 article he wrote about the wife of his current boss…Dame Patience Jonathan, before his appointment. Very interesting read…enjoy :-)

Democracy is readily associated with freedom: the freedom to be free in many respects and increasingly in Nigeria, many of our compatriots, particularly persons in positions of privilege and authority confuse this with the right to be disagreeable. The sober truth is that democracy is about rights and responsibilities, a democratic dispensation therefore cannot be a licence for disagreeable conduct as a norm; just as the possession of power in any form does not guarantee the right to be reckless or to ignore the etiquette required of office holders. Anyone in the corridors of power, either by chance or right, or appointment, is expected to behave decorously.

Dame Patience Jonathan, as she is now referred to, our President’s wife, failed the test this week in Okrika, Rivers State.

It is trite knowledge that there is a critical difference between Yenagoa and Abuja, and a world of difference between being the wife of a Deputy Governor/Governor/Vice president and being the wife of Nigeria’s No 1 citizen. When people suddenly find themselves in such latter position, prepared or unprepared, anywhere in the world, they are taken through a crash programme in finishing and poise and made to realize that being the wife of an important man comes with serious responsibilities lest they sabotage the same person that they should be supporting.

If Dame Patience went through such re-orientation, the course was incomplete. This week, we got a feedback drawn from her visit to Rivers state to launch her NGO – the Women for Change Initiative, when she ended up in Okrika, her home town. This homecoming became an egoistic show-off as she openly contradicted the state Governor, offering him unsolicited lessons on how to develop the Okrika water front and school system, in addition to pointed comments on the use of the English language. The Governor had reportedly insisted that his administration must demolish some houses which adjoin the schools in Okrika in order to create a proper learning environment. Dame Patience disagreed.

She then gave an unsolicited lecture on the land tenure system telling the Governor: “I want you to get me clear. I am from here. I know the problems of my people so I know what I am talking…” The Governor tried to explain his administration’s policy and the larger public interest. The Dame reportedly cut him short: “But what I am telling you is that you always say you must demolish; that word must you use is not good. It is by pleading. You appeal to the owners of the compound because they will not go into exile. Land is a serious issue.” Wao! “that word must..is not good.” We must all commit that to memory as we re-learn Practical English according to Patience Jonathan!

If it is in the place of the President’s wife to teach a state Governor how to run his state, it is definitely not in her place to veto a state policy (the reason the governor used the word “must”), not even her husband has such powers. It seemed as if Dame Patience Jonathan was determined to impress her kith and kin. She told them she had directed the governor not to demolish their houses. Then, she left straight for the airport obviously having overstayed her welcome and having behaved like a bad guest. She was scheduled to visit the prisons to grant amnesty to some inmates (is that really her duty or something that should be in her itinerary? ); she was also meant to commission some projects. The face-off between her and the governor put paid to all that.

On the eve of her arrival, a group which calls itself “the Okrika Political Stakeholders Forum” and “the people of Kirikese” had actually placed an advert in the papers welcoming “our amiable daughter and sister…to Rivers state and your home town Okrika.” They also brought up the issue of “the land reclamation and shore protection project at Oba Ama, Okrika being undertaken by the Rivers state government.” (Daily Sun, August 23, 2010, p. 2). Either on the strength of this advertorial or private consultations, Dame Patience must have felt compelled to be a partisan stakeholder and intercessor. She needed to put Rotimi Amaechi, the state Governor in his place and that was what did. She recommended “pleading,” – that advice is actually meant for her. A state Governor is a duly elected official; and in a Federal system, he is not answerable to the President, and nowhere is the president granted the powers of a Headmaster over state governors. In Okrika, Dame Patience behaved so impatiently and spoke to Governor Amaechi as if he is on the staff of the Presidency. It may not be her fault though. Amaechi caused it all by bringing himself to such level by undertaking to debrief Dame Patience about his administration’s programmes and activities in the misguided hope of getting cheap political endorsement. He should have asked his wife to attend to her. On the issue of land, Dame Patience should be reminded that the Land Use Act, Section 1 thereof, says the state Governor holds the land in trust for the people. Land matters in the state are beyond the ken of the wife of the President!

The wife of the President of Nigeria, or a state Governor, or a local council chairman, is not a state official. The same applies to husbands if the gender is reversed. He or she is unknown to the constitution or the governance structure. Recent history has however made it a convention to have the spouses of persons in such positions under the guise of providing support, play some ceremonial roles. This has been routinely abused. Under the Jonathan presidency, Dame Patience Jonathan even got a special allocation in the original budget for the 2010 Golden jubilee anniversary whereas she has no official, financial reporting responsibilities! The international standard is that spouses in these circumstances must not only appear but be seen to be above board like Caesar’s wife. They must not misbehave like Marie Antoinette.

When Cherie Blair, wife of former British PM, Tony Blair started buying up houses, apartments and antique furniture, the public raised questions. It didn’t matter that she was a professional in her own right, a Queen’s Counsel with a traceable source of income. There were also questions about the scope of Hillary Clinton’s influence during her husband’s Presidency: Americans wanted to be sure that it was the man they elected that was in charge, not his wife. A couple of weeks ago, the American public was up in arms against Michelle Obama and her poll rating dropped drastically after a visit to Spain where she and her daughter reportedly stayed in a $ 7, 000 a night hotel.

Much earlier, Nancy Reagan was also the butt of public criticism, with people asking: who is she? And this is not a female thing. In Britain, Prince Phillip, the Queen’s husband, is constantly criticized for putting his foot in his mouth. He once said for example that “British women can’t cook.” He told a visiting Nigerian President, all dressed up in babariga (name withheld): “you look like you’re ready for bed.” During a state visit to China, he told British students: “if you stay much longer, you’all be slitty-eyed.” Prince Phillip’s supporters insist that he is honest, but the majority ask: how is the Queen coping with such a man who is perpetually saying something offensive? There may be persons who defend Dame Patience’s aggressive style, but some of us ask: how is the President coping?
Since Dr Jonathan assumed office, he and his wife have been practically on the road. The Dame has travelled from one state to the other, under the auspices of the Women for Change Initiative. In every state she tells the women to vote and “make sure your vote counts if you like my husband.” Is she now a partisan politician? The Jonathans must be told that Nigeria does not have a co-Presidency. We have only one president and his name is Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. And by the way, what does Dame Patience Jonathan do for a living? She obviously does not have to deal with the challenges of rotation and zoning in her home, unlike the three wives of the Adamawa Governor, Murtala Nyako for whom zoning and rotation have become topical subjects or the wives of South African President Jacob Zuma – that is why she can afford to be so meddlesome!

When she misbehaves as she did in Okrika, she creates the impression that her husband is not in control of his own home. First ladies are prominent figures but their conduct is an eternal subject of public interest. In Nigeria, there was Victoria Gowon, there was also Ajoke Muhammed: dignified and restrained. There was Maryam Babangida – she was influential but no one could accuse her of verbal recklessness; Mrs Abdusalami Abubakar was a court judge, totally self-effacing, No major social party was complete without Mrs Stella Obasanjo, yet she controlled her tongue. Mrs Turai Yar’Adua was described as the power behind the throne and she proved that during the period of her husband’s illness but she was carefully reticent. At the state level, there was Remi Tinubu in Lagos state and Onari Duke in Cross River state who have both conducted themselves responsibly in and out of office. The new First Lady likes to travel, party, and talk outside the script. People are beginning to learn to read her lips in order to understand her husband. Dame Patience must not push her Goodluck.

Nairaland GeneralBoiled Quailed Egg With Text Found In Delta State Egg by pmonni(op): 7:21pm On Jul 16, 2013
A mysterious bizarre scenario in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
A legal practitioner residing in Ughelli bought a quail egg only to discover a writings text inside the white area of the egg.
According to the lawyer, the incident occurred on Tuesday at his office located at the Otor-Iwhereko community.

“I had sent my office girl to go and buy me boiled egg. On her buying the egg, I cracked the shell to consume the content only to find what I thought was a stain, on trying to clean of the said stain, I discovered the supposedly stain was an inscription, so I decided to call others to witness the episode and they all confirmed it.
Though not too certain the writings in the egg, we were able to make out words like, “He said man stories there,” he said.

On a close view of the said egg, it was discovered that the inscriptions where written in mirror format which reflects the writings being written from inside.
Of late, there have been numerous occurrences of strange happens with a recent report in the Nigeria dailies of a child born with a Muslim praying bead and Koran.

HealthNew Discovery: Scientists Discovered Mole Rat A Clue To Cancer Prevention by pmonni(op): 4:52pm On Jun 30, 2013
One of nature's oddest creatures has given up the secret of its incredible cancer immunity.

The naked mole rat, a hairless rodent that lives in ant-like colonies underground, appears to enjoy complete protection against the disease, despite its unusually long 30-year lifespan.

Now for the first time scientists believe they know why. The discovery could lead to exciting new cancer treatments for human patients.

The key to the mole rat's freedom from cancer is a gooey substance in its body tissue that stops normal cells turning cancerous.

Known as "high molecular weight hyaluronan", or HMW-HA, it surrounds mole rat cells and in the laboratory clogged up vacuum pumps and tubing. When the "goo" was taken away, cells became vulnerable to cancer triggers and started forming tumours.

In the mole rat, HMW-HA's primary function is generating a very flexible, elastic skin that allows it to squeeze through narrow underground tunnels.

Its rejuvenating effect on skin is already well known to the cosmetics industry, which uses it in anti-wrinkle creams and injections. This suggests HMW-HA could safely be used to treat cancer.

Lead scientist Dr Andrei Seluanov, from the University of Rochester, US, said: "There's indirect evidence that HMW-HA would work in people. It's used in anti-wrinkle injections and to relieve pain from arthritis in knee joints, without any adverse effects. Our hope is that it can also induce an anti-cancer response."

The naked mole rat's unique form of hyaluronan - part of the connective material between cells, or extracellular matrix - is absent from cell cultures from other mammals, including humans, mice and guinea pigs. It has giant molecules, more than five times larger than those of mouse or human hyaluronan.

The research, published in the journal Nature, showed that mole rat hyaluronan activates a powerful anti-cancer gene called p16 which prevents cells proliferating when too many of them crowd together. Next the scientists plan to test the anti-cancer effectiveness of HMW-HA on mice, after which they will focus on human cells.

Nairaland GeneralOjukwu’s ‘son’ Drags Family To Court, Demands N100m by pmonni(op): 9:54pm On Jun 27, 2013
The late Biafran leader died in November 2011.

The legal tussle within the family of the late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu shows no sign of abating with Debe Odumegwu-Ojukwu suing the family for N100 million for refusing to allow him perform the funeral rites of the Biafran war lord.

Debe, a former police officer, is urging the Federal High Court, Lagos, to stop the family’s “serial and sustained threats to maim or kill him.”

The Igbo leader died in November 2011.

Mr. Debe said that the refusal to allow him perform the dust-to-dust funeral rites of the late Odumegwu-Ojukwu is ‘illegal and unlawful” and amounts to a violation of his rights.

“The discrimination against the applicant in performing the dust-to-dust funeral rites in honour of his deceased father during his burial obsequies…. being his first and eldest son, and the consequent loss of self esteem and good standing before his immediate family, peers and the whole world,” Mr. Debe said in his court papers.

He added that the family’s exclusion exposed him to “public derision, great distress, mental torture, psychological disorientation, public odium, ridicule, and obloquy.”

Joined in the suit are Ojukwu Transport Limited; Joseph Ojukwu; Emmanuel Ojukwu; Lotanna Ojukwu; and Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu.

Others are Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu (Junior); Patricia Ojukwu; Margaret Mogbo (nee Ojukwu); Inspector General of Police; Ibrahim Muktar, former Anambra State Commissioner of Police; and Mike Okoli, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anambra State.

Mr. Debe, who is also a lawyer, is representing himself in the suit.

In his response, Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu (Junior) insisted that Mr. Debe is not the son of his late father.

“The applicant, to the best of my knowledge, as well as to the Ojukwu family, is not and has never been a grand-child of the late Sir L.P.O Ojukwu.

“The applicant is not the son or the first son of my father, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

“The last Will and Testament of my late father, dated the 9th day of July 2005, duly certified by the Probate Registry Enugu, did not include the name of the claimant in the list of his eight children.

“I was listed as No. 2 and the eldest male child. He (late Ikemba Nnewi) specifically named me as his ‘first son’,” Mr. Emeka said.

Mr. Emeka referred to a paragraph in the will of the late leader where he listed his eight children with a preceding statement which read: “the following and no others….”

“The issue of the applicant (Mr. Debe) being a son of the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu and therefore entitled to perform any of the traditional rites he alleges as being denied, is the subject of Suit No. LD/1528/2012 between him and some respondents,” Mr. Emeka stated in his response.

“The applicant was not prevented from performing the traditional funeral rites for a man he claims to be his father.

“Nnewi community has its customs and these are respected by all indigenes of Nnewi community. A son cannot be prevented from doing what the custom permits him to do,” he added.

Justice Okon Abang has fixed October 7 for the hearing of the case.
