Good morning all. Please can someone tell me what's going on in the public universities in Nigeria. Our school (Fed University) has been closed since on the 12th of December, 2017 due to the strike embarked upon by the non academic staff union of universities (NASUU). Since then, there's no update as to any negotiations going on between the government and the striking workers. |

The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said Abuja Airport runway would be closed to traffic due to maintenance work scheduled for the weekend. According to Yakubu Dati, FANNs spokeperson "the runway of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja will be closed to traffic for maintenance from Saturday, July 5 to Monday, July 7, 2014". He said that a NOTAM (Notice to all airmen) of the closure at 2300 UTC on Saturday, 5th of July, 2014 and reopening at 0500 UTC on Monday 7th of July, 2014, has already been issued at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, notifying all airlines, sister agencies and critical stakeholders. The facility upgrade, Dati said is in line with ICAO requirements and NCAA approved safety and standard and Recommended Practices (SARPs), will further elevate safety and security to greater heights. |
@ Op, please stop this misleading heading. When I saw goodnews, I thought the strike has been called off. |
Primary school teachers in Benue state under the aegis of the National Union of Teachers(NUT) yesterday suspended their nine month strike. The striking teachers have downed tools since October 2013 to press for the implementation of the 18000 naira minimum wage by the state government. Governor Gabriel Suswam had claimed that the state government lacked adequate funds to commence payment of the wage. The Benue state government had last Monday in Abuja reversed its decision and detailed a delegation led by the deputy Governor, Chief Steven Lawani, who signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National body of the NUT to begin the payment and also attend to other demands of the teachers. The development prompted the chairman of the NUT, Comrade Godwin Anya, to announce the suspension of the prolonged strike. According to Anya, suspension of the strike will take effect from 7th July. He also appealed to teachers to resume classes and urged the state government to abide by the terms of the MOU. Source:- Leadership newspaper. |

Dr Agwu Ukiwe Okali, has called on the delegates at the ongoing national conference to do the country and posterity a favour by initiating a change of name for the country from Nigeria to "Naijiria" in order to spare the country further "setbacks and embarrassment" in the international arena. He said Nigeria is being badly hurt in the international arena by constant and recurring confusion between the countrys name and that of Niger Republic. He also said such confusion manifested again at the ongoing FIFA world cup in Brazil where Niger was mistaking for Nigeria during the opening ceremony where the flag of Niger was displayed in place of that of Nigeria, thereby subjecting us to acute embarrassment. Source:- Leadership newspaper. Whats your take on it? |
