Nairaland GeneralRe: NNAMDI KANU: Simple Legal Clarity For Everyone by popp(m): 5:26pm On Nov 26, 2025
writetopoka:
📅 Key timeline

The Law used by James Omotosho:
The TPPA 2022 repealing the 2011/2013 terrorism law took effect on 22 May 2022.

After that repeal, the legal history for Kanu:

On 13 October 2022, the appellate court acquitted him and discharged the charges.

On 15 December 2023, the Supreme Court reversed that acquittal and remitted the case to trial under a fresh prosecution.

The “new trial” (de novo) resumed after that — meaning the case was being tried after the repeal of the 2013 law.

Legally, a fresh trial cannot rely on a repealed law — only ongoing cases can.
Since Kanu’s final trial restarted after the repeal, using the old law is constitutionally weak.
In my view, the conviction is legally questionable and vulnerable on appeal.
The Law was repealed in 2022, he was rearrested in 2021, therefore the Case was on going before the Law was repealed.

Wike did not lose. Rule of law lost. Civilian lost against military. This shows that Military can do anything they like and nothing will happen. The Nigerian people lost. Democracy lost.
So tomorrow, military can do anything to Nigerians and nothing will happen.
They can bully anybody and it will be in vain.
Military authority won against Democratic Authority even in the face of military illegality.

Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi, was speechless as he drew attention to the poor condition of the team’s hotel in Rabat, Morocco, ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifying playoff against Gabon.

In a video post circulating on social media, Iwobi shared images highlighting the poor state and surroundings of the Super Eagles’ accommodation in Morocco.

His post has prompted concerns about the welfare and preparation standards of the Nigerian national team ahead of the Gabon clash on Thursday.

A user, @dele003, wrote: “CAF/FIFA are utterly useless if this is the best hotel accommodation they can get in all of Morocco for a 4-days competition. It just shows the lack of organisation and uselessness that exists within those organisations. The NFF should have sent a party ahead though, maybe they could have rejected such accommodation.”

Another user, @prolific_eric, added: “Players representing the richest black nation on earth. There are still people defending this selfishness and corruption. Countries that don’t have half of Nigeria’s resources are giving their citizens and national players the best treatment. This is not even a 2-star hotel in Morocco. How selfish and pathetic can you be to treat your national team players below average.‼‼‼”

@MiraculousSound tweeted: “After working on the mentality of the players with this bad hotel you put them. Do you expect them to give you good results? For their career and football achievement they should play to qualify, but for #thenff this is bad publicity for Nigerian football.”

@MntwanaThokoza2 claimed: “NFF decided to book the team in a run down part of Morocco (which every country has). They are going to pocket the money, it’s a money looting scheme for them.”

However, not everyone shared the outrage. User @Ameboibadan defended the situation, writing: “There is nothing bad inside where they are, it is part of the training. If they actually have comfort they may forget their mission and lose, so with this, they will know that they must win or else they won’t even get transport come house. Thanks to NFF and Nigeria for this discipline.”
I don't need to read all these.

If he doesn't like the place, why can't he get a cool plt, pay for the entire team and her crew.

He is paid wages in Pounds, "person dey chop money paper for mouth"

The minister is not a wise man ...

Do you know the hype it will bring to the league thereby increasing marketing in form shirt sales for the club, increase ticket sales at each stadium, advert for companies etc and would have translated to increase revenue not only for the club he joined but the Football Association.

Renewing a rivalry between Ronaldo and messi given the later is in another club far way Asia in the middle east will be another dimension to football in the closing years of their career.

The minister should be relieved of his job he lacks foresight...his decision was borne out off emotions.
Your understanding is shallow.

PoliticsRe: Yahoo Boys Are Geniuses Who Need Redirection – Peter Obi by popp(m):
1Alex:
I have said this before here with my lost moniker.

Let’s be honest, the so-called “Yahoo boys” are not just lazy youth chasing shortcuts. Many of them are brilliant minds with real digital skills, coding, design, marketing, hacking only misdirected by lack of structure, opportunity, and hope. What if the government could flip that energy into something productive?

1. Set Up Government-Backed Tech Hubs and Internet Cafés
Instead of banning them outright, create Innovation Cafés, modern internet centers equipped with fast Wi-Fi, coding tools, design software, and training resources. Each center could double as a learning lab where young people practice ethical hacking, app development, and digital entrepreneurship.

2. Partner With Tech Firms and Mentors
Invite tech companies, cybersecurity firms, and even former “hackers turned experts” to train these youths. Many of them already understand the digital underground, teach them to use those same skills to build protection systems, detect fraud, and develop apps.

3. Create Structured Incentives
Offer small grants or competitions for the best app idea, cybersecurity solution, or online business. Channel their hunger for quick rewards into constructive innovation.

4. Integrate into National Digital Policy
Make these programs part of Nigeria’s broader digital economy agenda. Train, certify, and then employ the reformed talents in government cybersecurity, fintech, or ICT departments.

5. Change the Narrative
Instead of treating them as criminals first, treat them as misguided potential. When you give people purpose, they’ll surprise you with what they can create.

If the Nigerian government builds spaces that nurture digital creativity, today’s Yahoo boy could become tomorrow’s cybersecurity expert, app developer, or tech entrepreneur. The raw energy is already there, it just needs the right channel.
All these things you wrote here is nonsense.

We have Faculties and Departments where ICT, Science in computer, both in Engineering and many more are being taught in Nigerian Universities.

A thief is a thief.

Which old way do you know? Are you not a Gen Z?

You even had the gut to say you don't want to flog her because the School forbids flogging. So, if not you would have been flogging someone that is almost your age mate because you're teaching her.

PoliticsThe Boom In IGR Of Enugu State, Does It Have The Same Effect On The People? by popp(op): 8:48am On Oct 10, 2025
Greetings To You All.

The Boom in IGR in Enugu State, Does it Have An Equal Effect On The People?

I marveled and pondered for a while when the news hit my Palm, the sudden rise of Enugu State internal generated revenue. As the figures state; Enugu State gulped up to one hundred and eighty billion, fifty million naira (180.50bn) in 2024 fiscal year.

Is this a sign of relief? I became nervous and began to ask questions, how could Enugu State, my State rank fifth among the thirty-six States of the federation in terms of IGR. My nervousness led me to a couple of friends, as we were sitting, having a bottle or two while watching with excitement as Manchester United cruised past Sunderland FC of England 2:0 without the Opposing team registering even a single goal, is that the first clean sheet of the Season?

On the course of the discussion, I was told a few things that are ongoing in Enugu State, and the new proposed systemic taxation, pending the approval of the State house of Assembly. Although, Popp has not verified it to confirm it. I then asked, is Governor Peter N Mbah's socioeconomic reforms going to be a blessing or a thorn on the fresh of Enugu people?

It's unequivocally clear that the Governor is learning from his master, President Tinubu, but the question that's begging for an answer is, are these reforms and taxation on our people also have the same effect on the dividend of the democratic government we drive?

We all know the United Kingdom and how they tax their Citizens to the extreme, but it's not arguable that the unemployment rate is abysmally low for the UKs, major or the basic needs of live like food, shelter and clothing poses little or no challenge to these people. Infrastructural advancement is top notch, security is off the hook, Hospitals are well equipped and many more that I cannot be counting.

It is not just to tax and press our necks, the governor needs also to leave no stone unturned in making sure that his administration penetrates all the nooks and crannies of Enugu State. I am expecting a federal line, (33.10) to be stepped down in Enugu Urban, Nsukka, Orji River, Ukehe, Udi, Agwu and many more places. Not just to make some of these places "Urban" with the sole aim of pressing our neck in terms of taxation which I don't even know if I will call it extortion.

Here comes my question, since the sudden rise of internal generated revenue of Enugu State is the off spring of our amiable governor's economic reforms, do they also have the same effect on the daily lives of the people of Enugu State?
