Your submission is one of the reasons why I don't bother voting in general elections. I love my country, but truth is, Nigeria will never, ever develop with the current political structure we have. Even if we elect a 'better' President tomorrow, the next one could pretty much destroy everything the past one did by a mere pronouncement the next month. See what's happening at the state level. Good governor today, and tomorrow another one pulls down or simply abandons developmental structures and policies by the immediate past due to silly political expediency.

It was Buhari's second year in office that opened my eyes to the actual problems of this country. I thought to myself, "how is it, that two Presidents (Jonathan - Buhari) of different disposition, different religious beliefs, different ethnic extraction and political parties lead the country in similar, almost identical, ways?" I pondered about it and eventually reached the 'skeleton' of the country. Suddenly, I realised that the country is sick at its core. Nigeria was designed as a colonial substitute. The spirit of the Nigerian Constitution perpetuates colonialism under a semantic facade of federalism.

The Nigerian constitution designates the country as a Federation, yet, it tells her to serve a Lord at the center. It tells states to do whatever they want, yet, it empowers Abuja to nationalize any resource that exists at scale. On top of that, it tells the states to gather in Abuja every month to pick up a paycheck whether or not they contributed anything to the economy. This entire setup is anti-development. It's rotten and it stinks.

No state in Nigeria will ever achieve second-tier development status. Look around you and assess our cities. Billions spent, yet, our cities resemble war terrains. The entire structure was never set up to develop us. If we're ever serious about placing Nigeria on the map, the first question we would ask is the constitution question.

Yes Nigeria will never work with the present structure we have in place. Nigeria needs to be restructured. But Nigeria cannot restructure itself. It is the President that can lead the push for restructuring.
So it is wrong to abstain from voting. You need to vote so we can elect the President that understands the real issues and can effectively mobilize the population and convince the majority of Nigerians on why the country needs to be restructured politically and economically.
At the moment, when you mention restructuring, the vast majority of the elites from the core North suspect that you are encouraging secession. We should all take elections seriously.

Obi keeps trying hard to sell himself as a better person. We need visionaries like Tinubu that can build institutions that outlast them. We saw him do it in Lagos with things like LASTMA and the state IGR model. We've seen him start re-engineering our tax system, electoral process, electricity, oil and gas and do on. The basis of our development has always been selling raw materials for processing abroad, and using the money for sharing, not improving our productive capacity.

That is why we are underdeveloped.

The thing is, we refuse to use our natural resources to develop industrial products for the world to use. We also have some batshit ideas like 'we don't need to pay taxes' and 'we should toolerate corruptuion so long na our guy' and 'clerical job is best job'

As a business man in such line of trade your supplier of the raw material should be your informal partners not a company you once supplied to but the people you buy raw materials from are in the best position to assist you with materials rather than cash but if you don't buy from a particular source steadily then they won't trust you enough to give you the raw materials.

It sounds like he didn't want to help and kept lying to you intentionally that he would. When he lied that he was going to send it on Tuesday and didn't, you could've at least started looking elsewhere then.

This is a lesson to not completely trust one person when it comes to things like this and to always have a backup in case that person is dishonest and doesn't help. Relying and waiting and on him to send you the money was your mistake.

Before accepting money for something like this, it's also good to discuss or work out any terms and agreement, especially because they're not your family and may later ask you to return their money or say it's a loan, or ask for a cut. Who knows if you would have one of these issues with him, so maybe it's a good thing he didn't help.

Seriously, Lagos is smelling terribly right now. My neighborhood in Ayobo is completely filled with garbage. The PSP operators haven't come to collect our waste for months, even though we fully paid our bills.
The entire stretch of Ishefun Road down to Megida is covered in heaps of trash dumped right on the road demarcation. It has never been this bad, and with the rainy season here, the situation is dangerous.
Whenever you walk down the inner streets, you are forced to cover your nose because there is a mounting heap of waste in front of almost every single compound.

To fix this mess permanently, we need workable solutions on the ground:

Integrate local cart pushers: Register local operators with small carts to collect waste from the inner streets where big PSP trucks cannot or will not go.Enforce pay-on-evacuation:

Stop paying PSP operators in advance; residents should only pay through the CDA after the trash has been successfully cleared.

Set up CDA-monitored street hubs: Create gated community collection points inside the streets managed by local CDAs to stop people from walking out to dump on the Ishefun Road demarcation. Applicable to other areas.

Deploy the local LCDA task force: Use local council officials to monitor the Ishefun-Megida road and other areas stretch and penalize night dumpers on the spot.

Truth is no black African leader can do better than the other. I'm not a Tinubu supporter but he is not doing anything different from his predecessors. Yaradua is praised for reducing the price of petrol during his time but the highest corruption in subsidy happened under him.

I agree with you that Peter Obi may not be able to change anything in Nigeria's power situation. Not because he will not be able to do it but because of the reasons you stated. South Africa is battling the same thing; black people feel electricity should be free.
