Nollywood stars were on parade recently when a galaxy of Nollywood stars stormed Hope For Survival Orphanage’s 11 years celebration of service to humanity at Sheraton Hotel, Abuja.

Vincent Opurum, Nazareth Jesse, Sidney Diala, Dorathy Njemanze and Bruno Iwa were among a host of stars who graced the show which was hosted by Big Brother star, Uti Nwachukwu.

Commenting, founder, Ruth Ibrahim, thanked guests and patrons who had over the past 11 years showered love and care on the lives of children at the Orphanage.

“I want to use this medium to appreciate everyone who has touched the lives of these children and praying that the grace of God will never depart from their lives,” Ibrahim said.

Children of the home sang a song in honour of Ruth Ibrahim and one of the inmates, Jennifer, also performed Foot Print Of Sand. The climax was when another inmate, Monica, performed MJ’s Heal the World and Jeremiah Gyang thrilled guest with his hit track, African Child.

It was indeed a night to be remembered for the kids who shared their inspiring stories to the delight of guests. Top government officials, politicians and high networking individuals also graced the occasion.

Five Nigerian cities have been named as zonal hosts for the Season 4 of the annual Airtel Rising Stars U-17 Tournament.

The cities, Lagos, Abuja, Enugu, Port Harcourt and Ilorin, will play host to the screening camps from which zonal teams are to emerge for the National Finals in July. The zonal camps open on Monday beginning with Abuja and Ilorin

Four of the five cities which include Lagos, Ibadan, Port Harcourt and Enugu served as zonal centres in the last three seasons of the tournament. The fifth centre, Ilorin, earned the spot following the grouping of Oyo State under Lagos zone.

The Nigeria Table Tennis Federation may suspend Edem Offiong following her failure to show up for the first round match at the ongoing International Table Tennis Federation Africa Top 16 Cup on Friday.

Offiong, who is seeded number four in the tournament, was did not show up for her match in the preliminary round against Ghana’s Cynthia Kwabi, which resulted in a walk-over.

The NTTF has decided to query her on her action..

According to the NTTF, a similar thing happened at the last World Championship in Tokyo, Japan when the female team failed to report for the group game against Portugal, leading to a walk-over in favour of the Europeans and prevented the Nigerians from qualifying from the group at the tournament.

To progress to the knockout stage of the competition, Offiong has to win her next two matches against Onyinye Nwachukwu of Congo and South Africa’s Khanyisile Madlala.

Meanwhile, a major upset was recorded in the men’s qualifiers, as number four seed, Congo’s Saheed Idowu, was beaten 3-2 by Tunisia’s Adem Hmam.

The disappointed Nigeria-born Congolese star said he was not in good shape for the encounter having featured in the four-day Lagos World Tour which ended on Thursday.

At least eight persons were confirmed dead while seven others were seriously injured when a truck carrying a container rammed into a Nissan Cabster conveying some construction workers to site along Akute-Matogun area, Ifo local government area, Ogun State.

The accident occurred early on Friday 27 June morning. The Cabster was registered FKJ 279 XB and the truck FST 841 FF.

The cabster was conveying members of the Agege branch of the Concrete Association of Nigeria to their site when the truck ran into it, killing eight persons on the spot, while another seven were severely injured.

The injured, three females and four males have been taken to the General Hospital, Gbagada, Lagos State.

Confirming the incident to our correspondent, the Akute/Ojodu Unit Commander of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, Michael Adetunji revealed that the accident was caused by reckless driving by both drivers.
