Crime / BVN Exposes 23,306 ‘ghost Workers’ On Fed Govt Payroll by Possible4you(m): 5:52am On Feb 05, 2016
No fewer than 23,306 names are to be deleted from the Federal Government’s payroll.

A team probing multiple salary payments recommended 23,306 civil servants and some banks for thorough investigations.

The government has started deleting the indicted civil servants from its payroll, The Nation learnt yesterday.

It was also learnt that some of those affected have tendered their resignation letters to pre-empt dismissal from service and prosecution.

According to a source, of 312,306 civil servants, whose bank accounts have so far been checked through the Bank Verification Number (BVN) platform, 23,306 have issues with their accounts.

The source claimed that with the adoption of the BVN for salary payment, the Federal Ministry of Finance has so far checked the details of about 312,000 civil servants— a development said to have led to the discovery of many irregularities in salary payment.

“Out of the accounts of about 312,000 civil servants processed so far, the ministry was said to have uncovered irregularities in the account of about 23,306 of them, who were suspected to have been collecting double salary.

“These indicted individuals are in two categories. In the first group, we found out that the names of some civil servants, whose salaries are being processed, are different from the names on the accounts where their salaries are paid. What this means is either those in this category are drawing salary from two sources (which could be different agencies), or they are ghost workers,” the source said.

The source added that the probe also showed that salaries were being paid to some inactive accounts, thus raising the suspicion that government was merely making payment to ghost workers.

But it was gathered yesterday that the Federal Government has placed some banks under watch for their roles in the salary scam.

The probe panel was said to have discovered that some of the inactive accounts were domiciled in a particular branch of a bank.

It was learnt that over 300 accounts of some civil servants were opened on the same day and all of them have become dormant.

The Special Adviser to the Minister of Finance on Media Matters, Mr. Festus Akanbi, said last night, “The public will be appropriately briefed when the full report is ready.”

The adoption of the BVN became inevitable due to the failure of the Integrated Payroll Personnel Information System (IPPIS) to effectively deal with the issue of ghost workers in the federal civil service.

A source in the ministry explained that the strategy of using BVN rather than requiring the physical presence of each worker “significantly simplified and accelerated the progress of the project and at a lower cost than previously incurred”.

Education / What It Takes To Graduate With A Good Grade by Possible4you(m): 6:28pm On Feb 04, 2016
As students, we all want our cumulative grade point average (CGPA) to be high so as to graduate with either first class or second class upper.

There actually might be, but am not sure there is any student that wants to graduate with a second class lower not to talk more of a third class.

Here are some principles I have listed that would be of good help to you in achieving your aim of graduating with a very high CGPA.

Make Up Your Mind

If you really want to make a good CGPA, the first thing you would have to do is to make up your mind. In making up your mind, I mean that you should know within yourself that what you are about to undertake won’t be so easy. There are some things you would have to drop in order to achieve your aim. Things like playing a lot, watching movies and some other things apart from reading that takes your time. I am not saying that you should stop playing neither did I say you should stop watching movies but you should minimize the rate at which you do all those things.

Time Management

This aspect is very important as it is a priority of every student. For you to be able to excel, you have to be time conscious. Some students neglect the use of reading time table but I would like to advise that reading time table is very necessary for a every student. It would help you to carry all your courses along and not to focus on only one course.
Make a time table of what you want to do each day and at the end of the day, check out whether you were able to accomplish them.

For you to make a good reading time table you need your lecture time table. This would enable you to know the particular course you are meant to read each day so that you may not read the right thing at the wrong time. Also make a time table of the activities you want to do each day apart from reading and don’t allow those activities to encroach into your reading time table.

Accept The Fact That You Know Nothing

According to a very known philosopher, Socrates, “All I Know Is That I Know Nothing”. With this I don’t mean you should start calling yourself an OLODO but you should not say that you know a particular course very well so as not to read or focus on that course. When I was in my 100 level, I use to say that I know mathematics very well and that made me not to read my mathematics book.

The day of test came and after the test, I knew within me that I did not do well in the test but I still maintained the fact that I knew mathematics very well not until a night before maths exam that I decided to read mathematics. I opened the book to read and found out that those things I thought that I knew, I knew them no more. I had to read till daybreak and went for the exam. When the result was out, I got a C grade instead of the A grade that I thought I would get.

People would say “experience is the best teacher” but I am telling you to learn from other people’s mistakes that you may not experience that same mistake.
Never you for anything downgrade any course unless you might experience my mistake or even worst than that.

Focus

This aspect is also as important as the others. Some students would always focus only on one course because the course is too simple for them or maybe the course is too hard for them paying little or no attention to other courses. This is very wrong, for no matter how good you are as a student, you must still have the tendency of forgetting and you can only remember if you read. Remember, when making a reading time table, focus more on those courses that have a higher credit unit for those courses would help boost your CGPA than the lower credit unit courses.

In some higher institutions e.g FUTO,one credit unit courses are more stressful than even the 4 credit unit courses due to the assignments that is been bombarded by the lecturers to the students. This tend to make some students to concentrate mostly on those one unit courses forgetting about their higher credit unit courses.
If you are in this category of students, I would advise you to rather do the assignments that same day it was given so as to avoid it been piled up for you or you do as many as you can another day if you can’t do it that day and endeavor not to loose concentration on your higher credit unit courses.

Read

We all know that as students we are meant to read but there are some things we don’t understand about reading. Some students do read at night simply because their friends read at night not taking into consideration whether they are understanding what the read or not and may end up damaging their reading tables with their head when sleeping.

Before you read, first of all understand yourself and know the right time when you understand what you read. Some understand what they read when they read at at night, some in the day, some very early in the morning.

Some others do read a day before an exam thinking that they can get everything in their brain overnight. I did this when I wrote my maths exam as narrated above but I ended up getting a lower grade than expected. Learn to prepare and read on time so as to prevent the 11th hour rush.

One other thing, as Human beings, our brains need rest so read moderately and also rest your brain (siesta). Don’t also forget to play for it helps develop your brain but don’t overplay.

Pray

For you to be able to be able you make a very high CGPA, you have to prepare yourself both physically and spiritually. Before and after you finish reading, you should pray so as to ask for God’s favour so that you might not easily forget what you read.

I would like to round up with this “Work As If Everything Depends On You And Pray As If Everything Depends On God.”

God bless you.

Education / JAMB 2016 Candidates Protest Lack Of Exam Centres In Ibadan by Possible4you(m): 6:13pm On Feb 04, 2016
Report has it that some UTME candidates on Tuesday in Ibadan protested the unavailability of centres to write the examination.

It was gathered that the candidates numbering about 100 marched to media houses in Ibadan calling on the government to intervene so they wouldn’t be denied the right to participate in the examination.

One of the candidates who spoke said that there were no centres for them to write the exams in the region.

“Can you imagine a candidate travelling as far as Enugu to write examination just because there is no centre here? Some candidates will go to Abuja, Nasarawa, Edo from the South West?”

“… all of us who registered sometime in January have no centres. We have gone to them in JAMB to complain but they did not address our problems. The deadline was last Friday but it was extended to this Friday.” He lamented.

Education / Virgin Scholarship Is Introduced In South Africa by Possible4you(m): 8:24am On Feb 03, 2016
Maiden’s Bursary Award, a bizarre scholarship program targeted at female virgin students has been introduced in South Africa where beneficiaries are expected to undergo virginity testing every vacation.

The scholarship, which has attracted condemnation from women and other rights groups, was introduced this year in the Uthukela district of South Africa and has provided 16 women with college funding for retaining their virginity.

The young women who applied for the scholarships voluntarily stayed virgins and agreed to have regular virginity tests to keep their funding, said Uthukela Mayor Dudu Mazibuko.

The mayor stated that the scheme was intended to “reduce HIV, Aids and unwanted pregnancy” among young girls in the Uthukela district of eastern KwaZulu-Natal province.

“To us, it’s just to say thank you for keeping yourself and you can still keep yourself for the next three years until you get your degree or certificate,” Mazibuko said.

Certain rights groups have described the scholarship arrangement as invasive and sexist. Javu Baloyi of the Commission on Gender and Equality said “The scholarship promotes stereotypes – that you only get a bursary because you are a virgin, not based on your capabilities”.

People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA) said they were shocked because the move was unconstitutional. The use of taxpayers money to violate the rights of girls, added insult to injury, they claimed. By giving scholarships to girls who are virgins, South Africa is trying to control women’s bodies while ignoring the role of men and sexual violence in spreading HIV/AIDS, another rights campaigner said.

However, the Mayor behind the scholarships is standing her ground.

“What I have noticed about all the critics is that they are not bringing solutions,” says uThukela Mayor Dudu Mazibuko, who says she got pregnant in high school as a teenager and doesn’t want girls to go through the same struggle.

Mazibuko says they have tried different ways to stop teenage pregnancies in the schools of her district, but nothing has worked.

Asked whether she would be comfortable submitting her own daughters to the practice, Ms Mazibuko said that she would be, and that her own granddaughter was hoping to take part in this year’s ceremony.

Education / Why Do Institutions Wait So Long To Release Their Admission Lists? by Possible4you(m): 11:15pm On Feb 02, 2016
The reason for this write-up is the funny incident that happened yesterday when I suddenly receive a text message from Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE) telling me that I have been provisionally admitted on Friday, 29th January 2016.

My reaction was to burst into laughter because of the fact that I received an admission text from an institution that I have forgotten I even wrote post utme for.

Previously, I was admitted into the University of Benin (UNIBEN) on Saturday 17th, October 2015 which was a joyful admission for me despite the fact that I wasn’t given my preferred course.

And now when I have been matriculated and about preparing for my first semester examination in the University of Benin (UNIBEN) which is just two weeks away.

So FUPRE expected me to wait that long for their admission when their matriculation ceremony is just next week Wednesday, 3rd February 2016 and lectures have begun long time ago.

I know a lot of students who are still expecting their admission for 2015/2016 are frustrated with the fact that a lot of institutions are still releasing admission list up still this moment when this year jamb is just next month which is not fair and am sure I am speaking the minds of many Nigeria Students experiencing or had experienced this kind of situation.

I therefore use this medium to appeal the admission boards of higher institutions to do well in releasing their admission lists on time. So that candidates will know their fate on time to avoid prolonged tension, anxiety and heart breaks.

NYSC / NYSC Bans Attending Law School During Service Year by Possible4you(m): 10:57pm On Feb 02, 2016
The National Youth Service Corps has warned that the idea of participating in National service an attending Law School at the same time is no longer acceptable.

This was part of the resolutions reached at the 2016 Annual management conference of the scheme.

It was noted that the NYSC act demands uninterrupted service year. Therefore, prospective corps members have to choose between going to law school or participating in the Scheme instead of combining the two.

Education / JAMB 2015 UTME Guide To Success by Possible4you(m): 6:09pm On Dec 22, 2015
The JAMB 2015/2016 UTME examination registration has commenced and am sure you must have read it already in our previous post… (Jamb 2014 Form now out). Although, the form will be on sale still 15th of January 2016.

How to be successful in Jamb 2014 Examination and Score 270 and Above

Tips 1. Following the words of the JAMB Registrar after the 2013 exercise, Prof Dibu Ojerinde said: “We have gone digital in JAMB.” What he meant by ‘going digital’ is that the Jamb 2014/2015 UTME examination is likely to be a computer Based Test. to avoid surprises in the exam hall, we encourage participants to learn how to operate a computer system which is as simple as ABC. In the examination hall, your computer will be “timed” when it reached the allotted time, it will switch off, even if you have not answer any question! So the call to be fast is needed.

Tips 2. All admission seeking candidates in the Jamb 2014, mostly candidates within the South-Eastern environs are advice to make early registrations for the JAMB 2014/2015 UTME to avoid missing out on available centers. Last session (Jamb 2013), with the record number of 1.8 Million candidates who participated in the examination, Centres were exhausted in the within three months of registrations, and late registrants were pushed to the North, north east and north central zones of the country to take their examinations. (if you are not in the north, i know you don’t want to risk going to the North to write your jamb exam, due to the Boko Haram animals) A lot of candidates miss the last year jamb exercise due to this problem, so we encourage you to purchase the form as soon as possible.

Tips 3. Applicants who wrote the JAMB 2013/2014 UTME examination and selected the Paper and Pencil Type (PPT) were basically Victims of inefficiency of marking by the board, with majority of them, being forced to settle with scores that are not theirs, we therefore advice candidates applying for the JAMB 2014/2015 UTME to thread carefully, on what to type of exam to select, we recommend the Computer Based Test (CBT)and if you are good with computer, then there is no need to be scared of it. From last year experience, a lot of candidates who wrote last year jamb and choose CBT came out with flying colours. it is up to you which one you want to go for. But thread carefully…

Tips 4. From statistic, over 1.8 Million Nigerian Students registered and participated in the JAMB 2013/2014 UTME exercise, and not more than450,000 of these students were admitted, together with over 1.2 million students leaving our various high schools, due to the low amount to candidates who are offered admission last year, we are very sure more than2 million candidates will participate in the JAMB 2014-2015 UTME exams. We therefore advice candidates to prepare for the competitions. One way to beat it is to Jack your book (read your book).

Tips 5. The JAMB 2014 candidates are advised to stay away from the Most Selected Institutions as outlined below;
• University Of Lagos (Unilag)
• University Of Benin (Uniben)
• University Of Nigeria (UNN)
• University Of Ilorin (Unilorin)
• Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. (Unizik)
• Federal University of Technology, Owerri (Futo)
• University of Ibadan (UI)
• University of Port Harcourt (Uniport)

This are popular-one of the popular- institutions in Nigeria. The reason why we advice that you stay away from this universities is to boost your chances of admission, not because you are not intelligent, but because admission slots are very limited, the competition in these institutions is higher and if it is not your catchment area, then your chance of getting admitted is equal to zero. But still, if you must choose any of the above institutions, please also look for Universities that accept 2nd choice and that are not too competitive. Take note of this as you will remember it when Admission commence. Nowsuccess tips 6 will show us courses that are very competitive and why you have to ignore them…

Tips 6. All candidates seeking Admission into Tertiary Institutions via the JAMB 2014/2015 UTME exercise are advice to be very careful in their selection of courses, it is no news that the following courses have the highest number of applicants.
• Medicine And Surgery
• Economics
• Accounting
• Law/Civil Law
• Pharmacy etc.
• Mechanical Engr/civil/elect elect etc.

Selecting one of the above means you will be competing with thousands of candidates for the space, which is likely not up to hundreds in all the Institutions. But if you are however interested in any of the above courses, you must learn how to balance your selections appropriately to increase your chances of getting admitted. Ensure you also select courses that has few number of candidates, and by so ding, you can be sure of your Admission and if you so please, you can apply for change of course after been admitted. This is as to boost your chances of admission, not because you are not intelligent, but because slots are limited, competition is higher and you are getting older, plus, ASUU would make you age before time, hence, make hay while the sun shine.

Tips 7. It is important also that you know the accreditation status of the course(s) you want to apply for in the choice Institutions before submitting your application.

What is Accreditation of course?
Some university offer courses that has not been approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC), and if you end up in one of those departments, you would have wasted your years for nothing! Because you won’t be given any original certificate! For example; Medicine and Surgery has NOT been accredited in the Benue State University, BSUM and many others Universities, and candidates who is admitted into BSUM will end up spending 8+ years in vain.

How will you know if your course has been accredited in your choice institution?
You can know this from the Jamb 2014 Brochure that will be given to you when you purchase the Jamb 2014-2015 UTME Form. Also you can drop your comment and we will let you know if you are good to go.

Tips 8. Most Institutions requires a cut-off of 240 in the JAMB-UTME. (example of such institution is University of Ilorin) the minimum cut off for Medicine in Unilorin is 240 and 220+ for major courses, while admission at the University of Ibadan and Unilag begins with your O-Level results, therefore, its very important that you have the basic requirements of the Institution before applying for admission. In fact, this apply to almost all the Institutions in Nigeria. Ensure you have your COMPLETE O’LEVEL RESULTS for your chosen courses before buying Jamb, if you don’t have… you are only going to frustrate yourself. Even when you are admitted, you will be screen out after they collect your acceptance fee and school fee.

Tips 9. DO NOT apply for admission into Institutions outside your catchment areas, else, you risk your chance of being admitted. what are catchment areas? more on this;

Tips 10. Take note: Once you have submitted your application form for the JAMB 2014/2015 UTME, there is no more opportunity to initial any change, therefore, we advice candidates to check all the fields properly, including passport, names, first and second institutions, finger prints before submission, because all would be verified before you are admitted for the JAMB 2014 Examination.

We wish you all the best!

Education / How To Write And Pass 2015 JAMB CBT UTME Examination (an Indispensable Guide) by Possible4you(m): 5:36pm On Dec 22, 2015
THE Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) 2015 examination is fast approaching and many candidates are super agitated and going on anxiety trips over the examination what has been designed to be fully Computer based. This is especially the case with candidates who are attempting the JAMB CBT Examination for the first. Many fear that they have never used a computer before in their lives, talkmore of being computer literates.

The good news is that JAMB knows your fears. They anticipated them and designed their CBT software to take adequate care of the possible challenges candidates may face stemming from little or no experience in the use of computers.

Below is a veritable guide from someone who has a first hand experience. The tips will surely help you to pass the examination in flying colours.

How To Write and Pass 2015 JAMB UTME CBT Examination
As pointed out above, you don’t need to be a computer expert before you can write a Computer Based Test. In the case of JAMB, the computer you will use will be ON, meaning that you’re not required to switch it ON.

The JAMB software will be open in all the computers for the halls for the examination, so you don’t also need to start searching the computer programs or archives for the software.

Note today that the only thing you will be required to type or key into the computer is Your JAMB Registration Number. Every other thing will have to do with just clicking the mouse.

A computer mouse has two two buttons: the left button and the right button. The left button is the one you will use mostly for the exam, because it’s like the MARK button. Once you are assigned a computer, check and ensure that the mouse is working before you input your JAMB Reg No.

Just move it and know whether the mouse pointer is responding. This is very important because if the mouse is not working, you won’t be able to answer a single question.

THE EXAM:
The login page is a white and green page where you will input your JAMB registration number and click at submit.

ALL the computers are timed as follows:
THREE (3) hours,
Forty five (45) minutes,
Thirteen (13) seconds.

The first page you will see is where the instruction is. Just proceed and read the instructions carefully before clicking on “Start”. Once you click “Start”, the timer will commence and run till the time allotted for the exam elapses. The subjects which you chose during your JAMB online registration will appear. It is now left for you to click on any of the subjects you want to start with.

Please note that there are 3 buttons which are the following: Previous, Next, Finish.

There’s also an option that allows you to skip a question and come back to it later. If you skip a question, a red indication will be blinking on the number you have not answered. This notification is designed to remind you and to ensure that you don’t leave any questions unanswered.

The comprehension passage will appear fully on each question from the passage. So there is no need writing down or cramming the comprehension passage. When you are through with answering all the questions or when you see the timer is approaching, say, 10 seconds, quickly click on SUBMIT and then logout or better still, call the attention of the supervision on instructions to conclude the exam. This is very important.

Please note that there is no law that says you must answer the number 1 question before the number 2 or that you must answer Chemistry before physics. The exam is designed in such a way that you are allowed to choose which subject or questions to start with. Ensure that you answer the “simpler ones” that you are sure of first before attempting others.

In all, trust in God and do remember to to say your prayers BEFORE you input your JAMB Reg No to start the examination..

Wishing you the very BEST and success in the forthcoming JAMB CBT 2015 exam.

Education / Experience: Why I Failed My Year 2014 Jamb Cbt by Possible4you(m): 5:01pm On Dec 22, 2015
If you will be sitting for JAMB UTME 2016 Kindly read this.

Via experience.. It is not an unknown fact that some Nigerian students after their jamb examination will end up scoring zero over 400 ( 0.00/400.00). Last two years when i wrote my first Jamb examination, i had this feeling that i am going to smash the exam with a high grade like at least 350 over 400 but finally i found myself scoring 179 over 400, poor me right i guess

But i thank Baba God for even making me see my score. Some of my colleagues didn,t even see any thing called grade talk more of scoring 0 over 400, i will share some tipz and reason why i failed my examination and also from survey why many students also failed ,

Here are the 10 Reasons why Nigerian students fail Jamb:

1: Fear

According to H.P. Lovecraft, Supernatural Horror in Literature , He said that “The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown” , Seriously speaking, i was afraid then , the fear of Jamb made me to think if i was going into Do or Die Affair. i could also remember vividly that very day of the examination it took me about 10 minutes before i could even start shading some answer all because i was afraid to even start somewhere. Fear contributed to my failure .So my fellow students, Be bold , courageous and never you think of failure in your jamb examination. Jamb is just like a normal examination but very tricky….

2: Jamb Syllabus

It might sound funny but i bet you, Jamb follow some syllabus topics in setting up their examination questions, Then i was busy going to extra moral class , thinking i will grab everything within 3 months. but i was disappointed when i got into the examination hall . So i advice all students that will be sitting for Jamb 2014 to at least get tips about all the topics jamb listed in their syllabus.To get the jamb syllabus Visit here;

3: Power of Jamb Past-Quetions

My dear never neglect the power of past question papers. They reveal some tips and sample questions on what you will be facing in your examination. After the examination that day, some of my friends that finished about 4 years jamb past questions papers told me that about 20 questions each came out from jamb past questions. i was shocked but No second chance for an amendment.. So start now to practice some jamb past question.

4: Miracle Centre

Believe it or Not, This is an OPEN Confession, the fear of failing made me to get some A,B,C,D,E from a lady sitting beside me that very day. She registered in Miracle Enter(RUNS THINGS). i am very sure my score would have been more better that it was if i had focus without getting some data from that girl. After the examination , she showed me the Answer her boyfriend sent to her but to my greatest surprised the my English language paper TYPE was A but the one her boyfriend sent her was TYPE C. unfortunately to me i carried my USE of English Over… So. BE CAREFUL…..

5: Invigilators

Nowadays.. invigilators can frustrate students to the extend of asking them to pay or there will be NO communication inside the examination hall. For instance i could remember that day, one invigilator asked us to pay #2,500 each to allow us share and communicate with each other BUT if you fail to pay automatically you will become NO 1 Suspect in the hall. They will try anything humanly possible to make you fail unless you know your Creator.

6: Coming Late

Yes, I will advice you all that will sitting for the 2014 Jamb to be in your Centre 1 hour before the examination start. Try as much as you can to be first student to be in your centre. Coming late to any examination will make you feel that you have lost it all. you will automatically dis-organize yourself .

7: Breakfast

Yes , we know that a hungry man is an Angry man.. Do not use because you are going to write Jamb examination you will starve yourself . Before leaving in the morning please take something atleast one cup of coffee or tea with bread will be nice to hold you. Sometimes , your exam will even start late then planned.before organizing hall and all that your will be hungry unless some hawkers enter into your centre…

8: Long Distance

The possibility of a student living in Enugu to meet up with an examination that will start around 9.00am in Ebonyi state is just 40/100 because anything can happen. Some student will tell you i will meet up but along the line , they will be hooked up on the way. The question is:

What if the Car break on the way( Which we don,t pray for such)What if you don,t locate your centre before the exam starts?

The only possible solution for this is just to be in the state/local/town/village where your centre is located a day before the examination date.it will help you alot because if you fail to meet it automatically it will collaborate the reason NO 6:

9: Jamb Paper type:

Many students choose to change their Jamb paper during the examination. Let say your Jamb use of english paper type is TYPE A. Some student will quickly get EXPO from their colleagues without checking the expo Type. Be careful.

10: Lack of Information:

Information is power. Learn how to follow educational website like ours and other for latest updates and advice about your career. We at Examrelief serves as a guide to all Nigeria students, We are here to help. Always feel free to contact us for any question regarding your academics, but sometimes we normally do not reply some students without a tangible question or Query.
