Then they might attack whichever of the towns they deem weak. Or another town entirely. Either way it follows the strategy of trying to force the military to revert to defensive stance.

These guys leave from somewhere and return to somewhere after every attack.

These attacks on military positions have occurred too frequently for any right thinking planner of military operations not to have worked out an effective defensive, offensive or counter offensive plan by now.

This is what someone is collecting salary to do but...... Nada!.... we wait for an attack, shoot back, wait for airforce jets, bomb them, they run away, we celebrate and....... Repeat cycle.

i am not a fulani. those guy that attack the governor where gana boys, have you ever seen a fulani millita dress in black on black and green and red berate . the gboko junction i know never had a fulani case attack. even my guy in the escort said those guy were between gana boy or fulani because they speak tiv and idoma. oga governor have said he own, let watch for primary investigation. investigate thing before you open your mouth and said rubbish. gana boy have being working with fulani to attack taraba. beune, nassarawa and other, so i dont see any new thing in giving gana boy contract to attack the gvernor. after gana boys killed the brother of the former governor they said they will attack those who have hand in the death of the leader.

Mozambique conflict: Why are US forces there?

A sharp increase in militant attacks in Mozambique's northern province of Cabo Delgado has forced the government to reassess its strategy against the Islamist insurgency.

It has invited in US military advisers to support its own armed forces in the conflict.
What is the role of US forces?

The agreement between the Mozambican and US governments is for American soldiers to train local forces fighting the al-Shabaab militia - believed to have links to the wider Islamic state group (IS).

"US special operations forces... will support Mozambique's efforts to prevent the spread of terrorism and violent extremism," the US embassy in Mozambique said on 15 March.

"Clearly, the US is trying to extend its influence," says Jasmine Opperman, an analyst for the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (Acled), which monitors political violence globally.

But she adds that it's a complex local conflict, and that "the US is framing the insurgency in a very over-simplified manner by referring to [the militants] as an extension of the Islamic State".

On March 10, the US government designated al-Shabaab in Mozambique as a "foreign terrorist organisation", describing it as an IS-affiliate.

Portugal, the former colonial power in Mozambique, has also committed to training the military.

"We will send a staff of approximately 60 trainers to Mozambique to train marines and commandos," said a Portuguese official.

Mercenary forces

Although the Mozambican government is reticent about acknowledging their presence, private military contractors have been operating in the region alongside its security forces.

Initially in 2019, Russian mercenaries from the Wagner group were involved in the region.

What are Russia's intentions in Africa?

More recently, the South Africa-based Dyck Advisory Group (DAG) was believed to have been invited by the Mozambican government to help it fight insurgents.

A recent Amnesty International report on human rights abuses committed in Cabo Delgado implicated this group as well as government forces, and the militants in the unlawful killings of civilians.

The DAG says it's investigating the allegations made against it.

"When you hear these accusations of civilian casualties involving private military contractors, it reflects badly on the government," says Emilia Columbo, a senior associate at the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies.

There are also concerns over the effectiveness of these private contractors.

Acting US counterterrorism co-ordinator John Godfrey has said the involvement of mercenaries "has not demonstrably helped" the government of Mozambique in countering the threat it faces from militants.

Most of the insecurity issue we have in Nigeria is caused by the armed forces and our para military forces.

There was a time nah normal thing for IPOB members to be shot dead.

I don't believe in IPOB ways, but why should their members be killed huh

Now we don dey see the results. No be everything in life you go dey use force... Negotiation would have really help.

When GEJ was still the president of Nigeria, he was stoned in Gombe state. Can you imagine such nonsense huh Make GMB go Bayelsa state, make people unleash stone on am, only God knows the number of people that will be gunned down by our gallant troops on such a day.

We saw how hundreds of people were killed in Kaduna just because people were stoning a GOC convoy.

We can run Nigeria the way the UK is been run. A lot of self independence shout go seriously go down... Is not compulsory we have just 774 LGA or 36 states.

But he has a point, you cannot solve every problem using force. IPOB was once a relatively peaceful organization but the Nigerian State was using excessive force to shut them down. Now they are becoming more violent and things could start spiraling out of control.

The Lekki Toll gate incident has made many Nigerians to believe that violence is the only way to achieve any meaningful change in Nigeria now.

I believe that violence should only be used on a group or organization that was violent from the beginning, you should not use violence to crush peaceful organizations.

NOTE: I am not from the South East or even the South South, I am just looking at this issue as an officious bystander.

In respect to boko haram, the police made them go militant.

These people have been peaceful until the police started killing their members.

Aljazera showed a documentary on how bokoharam went militant.

Our police are very unprofessional

Don't put the blame on the police alone, BH would have gone violence with or without the police action. The desire to go violent has been a cardinal principle of any Jihadists.

You can enlighten us by giving us instances of IPOB violent acts BEFORE the military started taking actions against them.
