Solarrookie: Epever isn't so premium but it's fine. I haven't used the others but have read somewhat good reviews about the one you mentioned. |

I am looking to purchase/upgrade to a Lithium battery pack preferably Pylontech or Weco. BYD is preferred actually but it's a bit more expensive. Between 7.5 to 12.5 kwh depending on price The battery will go with a Victron multiplex(already owned) Will also need a good MPPT charge controller 60 A and Victron colour control GX Can anyone supply this? Need this asap I am based in Amuwo , Lagos |

Good day Gurus in the house, I would like to know how I can best protect my solar system from thunder and lightning. I told the installer to earth the solar panels and the inverter but be refused telling me it's very wrong to "connect AC to DC" I really don't understand his point and he wouldn't explain himself. He said the '3rd' wire in the solar cable must be connected to a thunder arresting device which he would install for me for 250k. Please, is he right? Can the copper earth rod device be used instead because I can't afford 250k, besides the building is a bungalow? Can he connect the earth wire in the solar cable and inverter to the copper earth rod? Kindly advise. Thanks in anticipation. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by eleojo23: 6:43am On Mar 23, 2021 |
Sequel to the question above, can thunder affect a setup with a separate wiring that is not connected to the grid (NEPA) wiring? That is, the setup has just a few points for powering appliances, runs purely on solar without any contact with the main house wiring. Will thunder still affect it? I used to think that thunder/lightening strike passes through the wires coming from the grid (NEPA) pole so if the setup has no contact with that, it is safe from thunder wahala? Is my thinking correct? cc: Ojeysky, saipro, valto, ceaser |

If there is no space between the roof and the panels and the panels are sitting on roof directly then when the panels heat up their production will drop because their isn't any air pocket to either cool it isolate the heat from the pan to the panels and vice versa. I am not confident of a percentage to give but it's not so ideal sha IYGEAL: 2 Likes |

My knowledge here is a bit limited but If thunder struck at some distance it leaves the air charge and that dissipate to surrounding environment current carrying conductors, which will induct them with the voltage of the ligthing .... Say like a 1kV On getting to your panels cable they will be charged likewise your panel frames but because the frames are say earthed...... The voltage is quickly discharge to earth but as for your panel cables the induction continues but say for your SPD with a Uc- clamping voltage close to your CC voltage .. It shunts the excess voltage to the earth and all is well. Problem is if your earth is bad .... Then. You might be in soup These are my own opinion eleojo23: |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by olopan(m): 7:14am On Mar 23, 2021 |
A well buried 6ft copper earth rod will do just what you need for you but ensure that 1. There is conductivity between panels and frame 2. The third cable in stealth of PV cable isn't used but say a okay guage flex cable 3. All Earth can terminate at your new earth point now. 4. If cash dey SPD won't be a bad idea. Hey brother I can get you a sweet deal on your battery storage using like six 2.4KWh Pylontech or if BYD LVL premium 15.4KWh, if interested we can juxtapose what best and maybe you can do it modularly as cash comes in. Contact is in bio. Saipro can link you up with many if your victron equipment accessories but only that fails I can be of help too AkoEja: |

Solarrookie: There was a time I was gunning for Epever several years back but I will pick PowMr over EpEver (considering functionality and cost). Nevertheless both of them are not "so called" premium, because there are still the Victrons etc 3 Likes 1 Share |

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by peterpeteru: 9:37am On Mar 23, 2021 |
olopan: Many Thanks Boss! By 'default' design, is there conductivity between the panel and the frame? If no, kindly suggest how this can be achieved. More blessings! |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by olopan(m): 9:56am On Mar 23, 2021 |
Please note that my method is crude, cost effective and efficient too, designed by me and not a method abide by any intl. Code Rails and panels come anodized - so no conductivity To penetrate to the conducting part, fairly sand off the surface of connections and link together from there using a good lug or buy those clip like things that bits into the rail or panel to do above mentioned. peterpeteru: |
