Completion of the Terminal building is being pursued vigorously!

Looks like the exterior of the building will be finished with both glass claddings and the same type of marble tiles used on the exterior of the control tower.

International Airport Project: Anambra Means Business- Capt. Nuhu Musa, DG Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority

By Ejike Abana (ABS Government House Correspondent)

The Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Captain Nuhu Musa says the ongoing Anambra International Airport, Umueri is truly of international standard.

Captain Musa was speaking while inspecting the airport project in company of Governor Willie Obiano and other senior officials of the Authority.

According to him, with the level of compliance to standards, Anambra state has demonstrated that they mean business.

While adjudging the control tower as one of the best in the country, as well as other facilities, Captain Musa stressed that all the things needed in a standard airport are in place within the airport, pointing out that when completed, the airport will be a significant enabler of economic development in the area.

Responding, Governor Obiano who reiterated that the airport will be functional by April 2021 said that they have achieved a greater percentage of the project.

When this airport is done and I am flying to Nigeria , I will not mind to pay more just to land on my father's land and head straight to my hometown, Igwulube Okodu!

One thing i like about Obiano compared to any previous Anambra governor is that he likes to do whatever he chooses to do very well. Look at the Mall Peter Obi designed for Onitsha, the 2nd largest commercial city in Nigeria! Mind you, that was done when oil price was more than $100/barrel!

Obiano just has a philosophy of thinking big and doing things to stand the test of time. When he said that he planned on making the runway 4KM to put this airport among exclusive list of airports with longest paved runways in Africa, I knew this man had the right character of doing things well and of standard quality to compete anywhere. Than fill the entire place with substandard mushroom projects. If any other previous Anambra governor had built this airport, it would have looked like a poultry and still cost even more! Perhaps, that was why people like me initially doubted it would be done at all, or done so shoddily cutting corners that it will end up another colossal waste like Rochas flyovers. That were built with such low quality that nobody dares to use them.

As much as i talk about Umahi not paying attention to the ballooning poverty rate in Ebonyi state, i love him so much for also being a man of similar bold outlook to life and a commitment to doing high quality projects that can compete with similar projects globally.

Anything worth doing is worth doing well and done to meet the best international quality obtainable anywhere in the world.

The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Captian Musa Nuhu has described the Anambra International Cargo/Passenger Airport, Umueri as one of the best airports in Nigeria.

The civil aviation boss who came to inspect the facilities at the fast rising airport said he was amazed at the elaborate, carefully planned and masterfully executed facilities at the new airport.

Speaking after the tour, Captain Nuhu who the Niverian representative in the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council before current appointment, said that the impressive array of facilities at Anambra Airport had left him amazed and speechless.

“I am amazed, almost speechless at the level of work, and the level of compliance with our regulatory requirements and also with international standards and recommended practices,” he declared, pointing out that his tour of the aiport had given him a clear view of what the Obiano administration had achieved with the project.

“We have gone round the airport. We have a runway of 3.7km with a runway safety area on both ends of the airport of about 1000 meters. There’s no airport in Nigeria that has a resa area of 1000 meters at both ends of the runway. With two taxiways. We have gone to the tower, the control tower is amazing certainly if not one of the best control towers in Nigeria today,” Captain Nuhu observed.

Speaking further, Nuhu who is the head of the highest regulatory authority in aviation in Nigeria said, “we have seen the fire service station. Amazing. It’s going to be a CAT 955 firefighting station which will allow big planes and international flights to be landing and taking off here once flight resumes.”

According to him, the water treatment plant is amazing. It takes care of the need of not only the airport but also of the firefighting service. We have seen the emergency evacuation center, trauma center in case, God forbid, anything happens. There’s arrangement to deal with any eventuality. I have seen the operational fence, I have seen the perimeter fence, significantly done or almost completed. And in the vehicle earlier today, I had said that ‘Anambra means business.’ And I mean it when I say Anambra means business.”

Captain Nuhu further emphasized that everything about the aiport was perfect, pointing out that the consultants to the government of Anambra State on the project had done a great job.

“It is obvious when this airport is completed, it is going to be a significant enabler of the economy and growth of this area, the state and the surrounding states here. So, at this point I congratulate the governor for this legacy project,” he concluded.

All the laudable projects by some of our eastern governors are really making me happy, but I wish our people and leaders will take trees, grasses, and flower planting as a priority and policy and stop building open drainages. Believe me, the east would have been the best region in Nigeria in terms of beauty we have fine houses. Just take Onitsha for instance, close your eyes and imagine if it is clean with trees and flowers lined all over the streets tell me why it will not compete with Abuja or even better.

Good to see Abuja has stopped pretending there’s no airport being built in Anambra and finally acknowledged its existence!

Next is for them to partner with the Governor to do what’s necessary to attract int’l airlines to the airport! I know what could be done behind the scenes to frustrate things! Pardon my cynicism...this is Nigeria!

Obiano is building the terminal the way warehouses and factory buildings are constructed with structural steel. Nothing particularly earth shattering about it. The whole longest runway in Africa is just total nonsense for a mediocre local airport with a capacity of 400 passengers.

Umahi in the same time frame has built far better infrastructure and buildings than Obiano and I am willing to bet that their white elephant airport in Ebonyi will be probably a better design even as poverty full ground Abakaliki.

Even in the U.S where I reside many government buildings are constructed with steel and woods. Stop being half exposed for a second. The terminal can always be redone. The Bush intercontinental airport as we know it today was what it was when it was built in 1969. They have expanded the terminal and added more features and beautification. Anambra has too many sectors pressing for infrastructures and we can dump all our funds in a single project just to impress you.

Now , can Obiano do better than what he has achieved so far ? Of course, yes, but he is out of time. So , let's count our losses and face the next guy. Personally, I don't think Obiano achieved anything worth jubilating.

There are still sand dunes on our roads.
The Awka bridges look mediocre.
Anambra still look like a desert filled with 4 storey buildings , no trees , no grasses and no green environment. Yet he lives in one of the most lush neighborhood in Houston , The expensive Woodlands.

Obiano , obviously failed on many aspects but let's move on.

It is obvious that Obiano imbibes to the best practices worldwide. Even opting for the expensive specialized airport fire trucks (The Striker) instead of the cheap and readily available fire trucks.

I truly give Obiano the respect for insisting on the very best in the aviation world for this airport. Many Nigerian state governors will simply buy a used fire truck that will not be able to fight a true plane crash fire. Thus, people will die from "saving" money by cutting corners.

A video of the capabilities of these specialized airport fire trucks will shows this is a beast of a machine! The last video is how these trucks saved a Boeing 737 from being engulfed in flames and thus saving hundreds of people onboard. Not to mention that the aircraft itself was also saved by these awesome specialized fire fighting trucks.

There is no ffucking reason in this world why all our major roads shouldn't be lined with native trees. If this was done since Obi's administration Anambra would have become one of the greenest state in Nigeria....Its so sad how wicked these governors are.

Every Anambra indigen up to 70yrs should have automatically paid government insurance. I hear some people here hyping Obiano including those who are "medical doctors" and "lives" in the U.S. And , you wonder why our people are so backward. Educated, yes , but ignorant as ffuck. They are only good at bragging...the average black man is senseless. He rejoice at his personal achievements while the Asians rejoice at what their societies have accomplished!

I know because I am a member of UIU North America branch and I just laugh at the so-called engineers and doctors...how shortsighted they all are.

I have been around since when Obi started his campaign from early days of APGA when Chekwas Okorie was the chairman and Umeh. I know the politics of Anambra and how Obiano was encouraged to run for the governorship seat.

Who doesn't know that Obi singlehandedly made Obiano the governor. Who doesn't ? It's a common knowledge. Obi was not the best but his frugality ensured that Anambra saved a lot of Monies and invested hugely on many stocks.

Where is that illiterate quack engineer mktinsight thats keeps constituting nuisance here. Anambra Airport is a bold project.. I'm personally glad about this airport because it will help open up Anambra economy and increase IGR for other projects for the next governor.. People forget that Anambra was literally a poor state before Obiano with IGR of 500 million.. Nothing could be done with that.. Now at over 2 billion, I expect the next governor to target 5 billion... That means enough funding for other legacy projects. Obiano has laid all the foundation to make Anambra a mega state, the next governor must not fail!!!

Enugu now has the best terminal in the South East by far and the only one deserving to be called international. Anambra should have used that 30 to 60 billion to build proper wide roads in cities and proper drainage.

Dont stress yourself over hungry dogs like globemoney01. Obiano in 7 years with capital allocation of close to 1 billion dollars has little to show for his efforts. Aside his decoration and ramps in Awka expressway and Esther obiakor not a single new road was constructed in Awka. A city which is growing 10% per year.

You go to Onitsha and apart from beautifying another legacy infrastructure namely federal expressway around Borromeo roundabout. Nothing.

His so called legacy projects are nothing special. I schooled in the USA. My Alma mater raised 30 million dollars and with it constructed a stadium and sporting facilities better than the rubbish in Awka, world class library and classroom buildings. 1 billion dollars and people are celebrating mini airport terminal and mini stadium.

Anambra Airport is the only Airport that has cat 955 fire station, cat 2 lighting system with 1000meters resa on each end of the runway in Nigeria, there is no plan Airport like Anambra Airport anywhere in Nigeria even Africa, aviation experts knows that's why they are commending obiano, imagine Anambra Airport that's yet to be completed is gaining all this traffic, many of our rich men are placing reserve in the airport because it's International Cargo

However its good to see you now comparing Anambra to USA.. False pretender stop pretending.

I have always compared the nonsense in Anambra to other places. I compare Anambra infrastructure to VILLAGES and SECONDARY SCHOOL in America. Which means I am not eeven comparing it to CITIES.

Lets take a look at Woodlands Texas where Obiano goes to relax in his swimming pool while paying people like you to launder his image.

Contrast Woodlands a VILLAGE and its streets to Awka a CITY.

[s]Best airport in Nigeria? HAHAHA. You are sadly living in a state of delusion. That mediocre village airport is not even on the level of the OLD terminal of MMIA talk less MMA2, talk less Abuja Airport or Port harcourt and Nigerian airports are not even anywhere near the best in Africa.

Leave that your village and travel.

Wake me up when your paymaster builds anything like these airports found elsewhere in Africa:

1. Maya Maya Airport, Congo
2. Port Louis Airport, Mauritius
3. Marrakesh Airport, Morocco[/s]

Only post I want to see henceforth for you is you advising other SE/SS states to close their Airports and make use of Anambra Airport.. Asaba, Enugu, Owerri shouldn't be running an Airport when the best Airport with the longest runway in the region is nearby..

Why not compare the same woodland to your useless backward state? Awka is the fastest developing city in Nigeria outside Abuja. Mktinsight you have failed and kept failing. Ndo ooh cheesy

False pretender stop pretending. have always compared the nonsense in Anambra to other places.
