Three years after about 500 buildings were demolished in Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Ikorodu, Lagos State, the state governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday, promised to compensate over 3,000 victims of the demolition exercise in the next 30 to 40 days.



He said this became necessary in order to rescue the victims from whatever ordeal they might have experienced as a result of the demolition of their properties about three years ago. He said, “I am giving you a commitment that the compensation due for that road will be paid in the next 30 to 40 days,” said Sanwoolu. Recall that over 500 buildings were demolished in December 2017 during the administration of former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode to pave way for the construction of Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way down to Igbe-Ilara with a promise to compensate the victims of the demolition exercise which has not been done.


[b]Also, the Governor promised commencement of rehabilitation of Igbogbo/ Baiyeku Road, construction of a mini stadium in Igbogbo as well as construction of the 4th Mainland Bridge before the year runs ou[/b]t in order to bring the dividends of democracy closer to the people.

The problem with that road started back in 2017 when Ambode demolished houses and refused to pay compensation and even refused to build the road.

Now the government must first identify the 3,000 victims of that miscarriage of Ambode's thoughtless and incompetent acts, pay them their due compensation which he promised to do within 40 days, then mobilize the contractor to commence reconstruction.

Cleaning up Ambode's mess all over Lagos is not an easy task, but Sanwo Olu step by step is determined to put Lagos back on track.

When governors have competent and capable hands at the local level, their job becomes easy.


This is what leaders at the LCDA level are doing in Lagos.

The LCDAs are leaving the shadows of the state government to develop and pursue their own local growth at their own pace, they are erecting bigger and better infrastructures, bigger and better hospitals and health centers.

Now, they need to get into roads, schools, local bridges, power and so on to all the state to concentrate on major issues.

In terms of roads network within the LCDAs' ,I think Ijede LCDA is trying and performing better than the others that make up Ikorodu Division. Ikorodu North is somewhat behind in this regard...

Now we are seeing good leadership flowing down to LGA and LCDA leadership especially seeing LCDA like Ifelodun delivering a medical facility that's better than some state-owned medical facilities.

Seems the LCDAs are asserting their independence by building their own operational and service delivery platform.

Since the beginning of Nigeria, the LGA's are mostly redundant, they look to the states for everything, the state controls everything which in most cased mutes leadership growth and performance at the local level.

The state must let the LGAs and LCDAs breathe and do their own thing as much as possible because we do have good administrators and talents at the local level and they must be allowed to flourish.

among the 774 local govts receiving allocation monthly).

Does an LCDA generate it's own funds? U don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that a state govt can't be going around building new headquarters for it's LCDAs

What's the value of official government and administrative building to the people? The building belongs to the people in the first place.

Government Administrative buildings is where the people go to conduct official government business, it's where they go to pay fees, obtain licenses and permits, it's where they go to obtain government forms and registration.

Without official government administrative buildings, where do you suggest they operate from? Roadside kiosks and have people line up on the side of the road to conduct official government business?

What's next? the workers are not supposed to work inside the building, they should just park bench, tables, chairs, copy machine, files cabinets on the side of the road under the sun 6 hours a day and 5 days a week..

And when the people need to register complaints or have issues to address, they should just go to the LGA chairman's house since there's no need for a government building..

Why is this particular building killing this troll anyways? Is this the only local government with an office building? Have you questioned the need and importance of LGA office buildings and government secretariats all over Nigeria? Or the tribal bigot in you only develop headaches when they are not in your ipob states?
