Samuel Chukwueze is improving in leaps, especially in team play as i have noticed and listed inter alia

Mobility He covers more grounds unlike before.

Defense contribution: He makes more tackles and tracks back more often., putting less pressure on his fullback
and thereby releasing the fullback to participate in the attack as well.

Passes and passing range: These areas have also seen improvement.

The formation we played against Benin and Lesotho, leashed our wingers, and did not give them the orientation they needed to perform.

Of these lots, Chukwueze, Sheyi and Tella play predominantly on the right for club and/or country.

Also for club and/or country, the following lads play on the left predominantly: Kalu, Simon, Henry, Ejuke, Musa, Olayinka, Lookman and Iwuala.

Also again, Kalu and Ejuke are also capable of playing on the right.

So the point is, Chuks needs Competition but it seems we have more competition on our LW than on our RW.

Hopefully Tella coming in will provide good backup to Chuks and maybe Kalu can also feature there sometimes. We also have Sheyi Ojo who have been doing his thing for Cardiff City in the Championship and could become an option if his switch is done. He has 5 goals + 7 assists in 36 Championship games (25 starts) as a RW.

Now that Our AfconQ campaign is over, now is the right time to drop this.

Note: I didn't include players involved via linkup plays or provision of second assists (the pass before an assist AKA assist before the assist). Chuks, Nacho and Iwobi were involved in a lot of our goals via linkup plays and second assists combined but this focuses on Direct Goals Involvement.

Rohr has delivered AFCON ticket again, he deserves the respect of everyone for job well done
This is the best coach Nigeria has produced in years past and I congratulate him

The players have shown resilience and dedication to seeing 9ja qualify for AFCON 2022, congrats to them too
The positions Rohr needs to strengthen remain the central defence and attacking midfield; a ball carrier

Honestly both are fantastic young goalkeeping talents that ensures we won't be having any GK crisis for the next decade and more. We are finally blessed in that position after what we went through after Carl Ikeme's unexpected health challenge.

But this rotation of a thing ehn, well... I was glad to see Uzoho man goal today again after two years in the GWG coz if not for his injury, he would still be Rohr's first choice. But as circumstances have it, he is now the second choice and still pushing Okoye hard for the first choice spot.

I think I would prefer Rohr sticks to one Goalkeeper (more likely Okoye) going forward especially with June WCQ games next on our schedule card. Stability in the choice of who mans goal for us in the WCQs is key to establishing deeper synergy between the goalie and his backline.

Using the last two games won't be enough for me to properly bring out what stands both out from each other so I would also factor in their 20/21 league season so far.

Based on the two games alone, Both gave a very good account of themselves.

Maduka Okoye, "The German Wall"

Okoye was hardly tested in the Benin game as we dominated from start to finish but he did pull off a quick reaction save from Mounie's header in the second half of the encounter. That header was destined for the bottom left corner (to Okoye's left) but Okoye reacted quickly, shifting his weight backwards and propelling himself with his legs leftwards to keep the goal Bound effort out.

Bleeps from the Benin game: He did have one shaky moment. That moment when he and Ekong kinda miscommunicated and it almost led to Mounie pouncing for a chipped goal. Thanks goodness that didn't prove costly. Aside that, Okoye had a very good game.

Weaknesses: He isn't such a great vocal presence compared to Uzoho. He needs to step that up because it is his vocal communications that will also help his defenders understand his movements and decisions better.
Another is not having near complete command of his area. This is also linked to his vocal communication deficiency. If he can be more vocal, he would see his ability to take command of his area enhanced. How can you be in control when you don't communicate often enough with those that help contribute to you keeping that control?

Strengths: Very good reflexes. Fast off his lines. Showing signs he could become a really good penalty stopper (faced three pens already in the Eredivisie and saved one), a good shot stopper, good handling of crosses, Knack for sometimes quickly launching counters or swiftly releasing the ball to a player who could kickstart a counter attack move, Ball distribution with his arms, good/decent in One-on-one situations.


Francis Uzoho, "The Super Boy"

Uzoho too was hardly tested in the Lesotho game. But when called upon, he did pull off a superb save from a well taken Lesotho freekick. Although he saved it, it fell kindly for another Lesotho player who slotted in but was clearly in an offside position. He also did well with crosses and his command of his area was top notch. Always in control and has this presence.

Bleeps from the Lesotho game: I would make reference to that freekick he saved beautifully. Although he did make the stop, it could have been a stop that led to a goal had the offside trap not been set by his defence. Well maybe it's also partly credits to him for the way the defence kept that offside trap but what could have been had just one player kept the Lesotho man on side? Uzoho always make the right decisions when it comes to freekick situations but today, he parried it wrong into the foot of an opponent and needs to be wary of that going forward. It is unlike him and such should not be repeated

Weaknesses: Can get beaten at his near post sometimes and needs to work on using his full body length and big size to ultimate effect.

Strengths: Very solid vocal presence/command of his area, Very good reflexes, Good ball distribution with his feet and arms, Good shot stopper, Big Games Experience, Great in One-on-one situations, Good handling of crosses, Great from Freekicks (Lad is yet to concede a freekick goal in GWG colors).





The 20/21 Stats front

Uzoho's stats in all Competitions (Cyprus):

Okoye's stats in all Competitions (Netherlands):

⏺️22 games played (all starts)
⏺️30 goals conceeded.
⏺️52 saves made.

Conclusion: Both are really good young goalies. For now, I believe that Uzoho is the better Goalie although not by so much and has passed the "nerves of steel" test with his showing at the last World Cup and seeing how much better he has actually gotten since then.
But seeing how Okoye's career path in the Eredivisie could go in the next couple of months opens up doors of possibilities for more growth and maturity in the role on his part too.

Rohr has made his choice. Okoye is the number 1 and should be given more games going forward and not to be rotated with Uzoho repeatedly if indeed we want a very sound synergy between him and his defenders.

I go with Rohr's choice seeing the marginal difference of "who is better" is not that large between them.
Also, Rohr has a fair point going with the lad starting in a league rated #7 in Europe over a lad (and former #1) starting in a league rated #15 in Europe.

It's like the Ondoa vs Onana situation Cameroun faced before Onana's recent ban. Ondoa won the Afcon with Cameroun in 2017 and was one of their very best players at that tournament.
He was (and still is) in a lower league and club compared to his cousin, Onana.
With time, Onana's showings for Ajax in the Eredivisie and UCL paved way for him to Usurp Ondoa as Number 1 for Cameroun. At Afcon 2019, Onana played over an Afcon-winning Ondoa as the Number 1.

So with Okoye, we have a lad doing it good in a league more highly rated than the Cypriot Prothatlima Cyta. And Okoye is already among the best goalies in the league according to Eredivisie analysts and rated among the very best young goalies in the Dutch football as a whole. He could rise to become better in the long run than Uzoho but for now, Uzoho just about edges it taking both their Strengths and weaknesses together plus experience and more as Uzoho himself have been improving.

But in all, Okoye it is.

I remember Wifred Agbonavbare was doing well in Spanish la liga with Rayo Vallecano and Peter Rufai with Go Ahead eagles in Dutch league was the preferred choice.

Thank you! This is very informative. That probably explains why Rohr hasn’t been playing him in many of our games. He’s our best RB by far and he’s better than most of our LBs as well. Ebuehi is a gem. He can read the game as well as anyone I know. That’s what you get when you cut your teeth in the Dutch league.

You are right Uncle Elder Kog. And that experience factor is part of why I personally rate Uzoho higher right now. But you see, the choice belongs to Rohr and not me or you. And Rohr has said Okoye, it is for first choice. But time will reveal more as we go coz Uzoho is definitely gonna give Okoye a hard run for the #1 shirt.

Elder kog45 it been awhile on here ....but I hope you remember the fact uzoho is still recovering from his injury after the unfortunate injury against Brazil now working back to his normal self requires alot of work unlike okoye who has been fit and in form and his confidence level is still high considering his feat in Sparta ....uzoho over okoye anyday but the injury uzoho had, has brought truncation to his growth and his form so we better stick to okoye now till uzoho grows back in form and fitness and it not really easy on uzoho after being out for months.
