It still surprises me that a lot of them are careless about modern tools. When you watch YouTube and sees how foreigners use tools to do work you just want to cry for our people down here. When they come with their ragtag tools to work on your stuff it’s just like they don’t serious with their work. They eat and drink bear but can’t buy modern tools. That why once they open your stuff. E.g car, phone, ac e.t.c it will never renewing the same something must miss inside. Either the scroll will not complete again or they forget to put back something inside or they damage something inside because of lack of modern equipment |

Money. Modern car tools are insanely expensive. A scan tool that can't even program and can only read graph data is above 400k. How many technicians in Nigeria make up to 100k a month. |

Where is the money for the tools supposed to come from when mechanics still charge 1k to change oil. Will you be ready to pay 5-10k for an oil change? You don't need to answer, we all know what the answer is. |

Why should we pay 5 - 10k for an oil change? Is naira that useless? |
| Re: Why Does Nigeria Technicians Don’t Invest in Tools? by Nobody: 5:05pm On Mar 31, 2021 |
alphaNomega:So where will the mechanic get the money to buy/replace the tools? The foreigners he's comparing them with, do they charge $2 to change oil? |

Keep shut there. |
| Re: Why Does Nigeria Technicians Don’t Invest in Tools? by kingreign(m): 6:41pm On Apr 06, 2021 |
alphaNomega:It's beyond useless. Can you pay $20-25/hr for a mechanic job? Do the conversion. |
| Re: Why Does Nigeria Technicians Don’t Invest in Tools? by kingreign(m): 6:44pm On Apr 06, 2021 |
fineboynl:Blame our exchange rates. The same tools the foreigners buy over there for $200, when you eventually buy it here, it's like $800 with shipping minus duty. How many technicians can afford that? |

Everywhere don burst before i land. We dont like paying for service, and we get what we pay for. You will see a customer that wants to do oil change , buys his filter and oil. And after oil change, he say, i beg, i no get money again. I go see you. Or he squeezes something in your hands as if he is giving police man money. Then when you take a look, na 500, or 1k. Oga how far, na joke be this. 500, he says, that is how much he changes oil at total filling station, and he isnt lying, thats why you don't pity them when they go through car woes. Naijas Tory issa different ish. We are our own problem. And you expect the mechanic to get the Autel Maxiys Ultra, with a yearly subscription of $1,000 dollars. Una, take time. There are great places to fix your car, without fear of anything getting screwed up. The question is, can you pay? |

Elsueno:Na them be this ![]() If we are doing an oil change for you. You are sure coughing out 3k on service charge. And yes, we wont just change the oil. Will also do a multipoint check. Check you air filter, brake pads, all fluids, see to it that you dont leave the shop with a problem you are not aware of ![]() If you say you just want your oil changed, leave the check. You are still paying the 3k ![]() |

Why would you expect a cheap mechanic to have expensive tools? |
| Re: Why Does Nigeria Technicians Don’t Invest in Tools? by Nobody: 7:15am On Apr 08, 2021 |
DMechy:will what u mentioned made sense, will actually pay like 2k for all those stuff , if u guys do all that. But perosn cant just change oil & expect 3k , some even add extra 500n on filter price if u decide to buy from them |

Elsueno: ![]() Original denso filter is 6,500 boss. No jokes For the extra 500, na handling charge. We forget mechanics enter transport to buy parts, parts that are not warrantied, and he is expected to warranty them. Filter is 500, and we expect him to sell 500 too. Ho, he is not a parts seller, i forgot. I say, na we be our own problem. |
| Re: Why Does Nigeria Technicians Don’t Invest in Tools? by Nobody: 8:06am On Apr 08, 2021 |
DMechy:He should use his "inner eyes" and experience to know which parts are good and the ones that are not ![]() That is why we don't go ourselves but give them money to buy for us ![]() |
| Re: Why Does Nigeria Technicians Don’t Invest in Tools? by DMechy: 8:16am On Apr 08, 2021 |
rationalmind:No o, so that if everywhere burst, you will hold him responsible. Sure there will also additional cost to the inner eyes ![]() |
| Re: Why Does Nigeria Technicians Don’t Invest in Tools? by Nobody: 8:28am On Apr 08, 2021 |
DMechy:For me, there's no problem with that but when you charge more than market price and still say you can't give warranty on parts that are not warrantied then there's a problem ![]() |

let be sincere. it's not all about money. if this guys have the money trust me they will not buy the tools. I am not talking about computerized system. but modern quality tools. imagine an AC guy is filling ac gas without pressure test. but he will tell you when the gas is ok he will know. there are manufacturer specific requirements on it. outside of that it will not work optimally that's why a car which ac has never been touch before in this country blow high standard than the once they touch down here |

fineboynl:Tools have nothing to do with something missing inside your car, phone etc. Tools will only help you do your job efficiently and effectively, the truth is most Nigerian technician don't just want to upgrade, they learn the skills without using any of the tools so instead of going for online course to upgrade their knowledge and know how to use the tools they prefer to stay that way. Well I believe having a missing component have nothing to with not having the tools for repair, it is just lack of proper understanding of what they are doing. Imagine an engr with 2000 repair knowledge fixing a 10th gen laptop or fixing a 2020 car, the technology is different and he will definitely miss something out. The best thing to say is engrs should learn to upgrade their knowledge, go for online course on latest technology in their field and get the latest repair tools. |

udemzyudex:how do you talk about someone who came to install just AC in my house and end up setting it on fire? while he was installing the AC they couldn't drill a pepper small hole. that's because they where using Hammer and broke the wall which is a hollow block.. next was when he ask where to plug the AC I told him there is a switch there. but I don't know if it will work. the word that came out from his mouth is let try it. when they finish and left the whole wire that connect to my appointment was burnt down. it was just too many for me to handle. condict wall and I love upper floor. when I called him he said that means the wire they use in my appointment is 1mm. I told him to come and see but he said I should look for electrician as that is not his work. he has done is own work. I almost cried the money I spent if I added all it would have given my a bigger and better ac. I was even trying to economize when buying the ac. I don't want to spend much. but the AC installer makes me spend that money I really don't want to spend. |
