Evacuation: Our Consulate In Saudi Arabia Helping Niger Republic Citizens, Ignored Us, Nigerian Returnees Allege

The affected Nigerians, who served mostly as house helps in Saudi Arabia, also accused their former bosses of sexually molesting and maltreating them while in their service.

The latest set of Nigerian returnees from Saudi Arabia has alleged that the country's consulate in Saudi Arabia is helping more citizens of the neighbouring Niger Republic than Nigerians, who are stuck in deportation camps in the Arabian country.

The affected Nigerians, who served mostly as house helps in Saudi Arabia, also accused their former bosses of sexually molesting and maltreating them while in their service.

"They are not Nigerians; they are Nigeriens. Nigerians are there and they are suffering. I was there for two months plus in the deportation camp," a visibly angry Nigerian told journalists in Abuja.

Another returnee, who spoke in the Hausa language, lamented the dehumanising treatment they were subjected to in Saudi Arabia.

She said in a report by ChannelsTv, "My suffering started from my arrival in Saudi Arabia. I was sad because my education couldn't help me in my country. I was in my master's house doing my chores."

The Nigerian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, called for calm while addressing the allegations.

The Consular-General in the Ministry, Ambassador Akinremi Bolaji, said the Federal Government would launch a probe into the incident.

"I am telling you that with the permission of the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, what you have said here will not go uninvestigated," he said.

"Now I will meet with those who have said this and if you have names, let us know."

Since January 2021, the Federal Government has evacuated over 3,000 people from Saudi Arabia, with last week witnessing the return of over 1,000 people.

Although some of the returnees have tested positive for COVID-19, they have received adequate treatment because they are asymptomatic.

Accusations of abuse and maltreatment of Nigerians in foreign countries have been rife in recent years.

A viral video from India recently alleged that a Nigerian was killed in India, prompting protests and calls for intervention from the Nigerian government.

The worst thing that happened to Igbos was the day the Oil Rivers became a British protectorate.

But mumu zik had an opportunity to correct it after the Eastern Region was carved out from Southern Nigeria and basically handed over to him. He was busy playing Lagos politics instead of moving to declare The Eastern region independent.
Now look at majority of igbos practically spending their lives scheming on how to relocate to overseas.
Moral of the story is always do what is best for your people as a leader not what is best for you, because you won't be a leader forever.
Moses could have just decided that instead of attempting to leave Egypt that it was better for the children of Israel to stay and join Egyptian politics after all he was close to pharaoh already. How wrong he would have been!

Saw that in the news..
Starts to look like Niger republic actually bankrolled the elections of one muhammadu Buhari. Because apart from the northern part of the country, no other sections of this strange country can boast that it has benefitted more from the Buhari regime that Niger republic. Whether it's in rail lines constructions, oil and gas pipelines and open border policies that have emboldened criminals and hoodlums from Niger to flood Nigeria and constitute themselves into the biggest security threats around.

We're now being ruled by folks whose allegiance tilt more to Niger republic than Nigeria and some starry eyed Southerners are so consumed in their vaulting political ambitions to take notice! Just as was the case in his first coming, when he openly supported a Nigerien candidate at the United Nations over a fellow Nigerian, buharis loyalty and patriotism is once again all over the place. This is unbelievable! For a country as big as Nigeria, the menace called fulani, has obviously become the greatest national tragedy!

Even after Azikiwe, there were chances missed. Ironsi was Supreme Commander for 6 months but chose to surround himself with northern officers. He was that comfortable because he was a typical "Lagos boy" who lived most of his lives outside igboland.. St the initial stages of the war, Ojukwu could have easily submitted to one of the Super Powers and gotten the arms and diplomatic support he needed, and 3 million lives wouldn't have been lost The east could have been free of all these today. He didn't as he prevaricated! Ojukwu studied st Kings College Lagos as a young boy, where his Yorubas was as fluent as that of any other Yoruba kids. Zik messed up , because as a well trained political scientist, he was best intellectually prepared than either Awolowo or Sarduana for all those pre/post colonial political wars..

But what many Igbos always hurry to overlook is the fact that these 3 Igbos I just mentioned, were either born outside igboland or had their early orientation and education in life outside igboland! Even Nzeogwu spoke Hausa more than igbo! Zik was born in Zungeru Niger state. The same with Ojukwu! Ironsis mother or father was trailed to Sierra loen. So what? It meant that at every turn, they had emotional attachments to different parts of Nigeria which inhibited their abilities to be very ruthless in their decision making at decisive points in history. They had childhood friends and classmates all over the place. Four of them were born outside igboland and were very fluent in different Nigerian languages... totally immersed in different cultures across the country! They were not the best representatives of the Igbos at those crucial moments. Zik sacrificed a lot for the socalled one Nigeria project to the detriment of the Igbos! It makes you wonder what was their for the Igbos for him to do so, but dude wasn't your typical igboman. He was actually a real "Nigerian".

You are quite right.
But I blame Zik the most.
Ojukwu gaffed by not courting USSR and accepting to be a 'communist country' like North Korea and Cuba at the time. But the truth is, USSR was engaged elsewhere in cold war with the US. They may not have helped much

Aguiyi. I blame Aguiyi for not handing power over to civilians immediately calm was restored. And I blame him for not moving decisively to arrest Murtala and Gowon and for not executing Nzeogwu and Ifeajuna (Ifeajuna led the coup not Nzeogwu)

But you see Zik baa...he was the person in the best position to declare us independent.
He became the Premier in 1953 and by 1957, The Common Wealth of Eastern Nigeria was given FULL independence alongside The commonwealth of Ghana and the commonwealth of Western Nigeria.
Oil was discovered in commercial quantity in the east by 1957. Oil was already a major money spinner worldwide. Zik was asked to declare us independent and in exchange, the house of chiefs would make him king of East Nigeria.
Zik could have used the instrument of Act of Parliament to pull us out of a federation with Nigeria in 1958. Remember Pakistan had already done it in India. New Zealand had already done it with Australia. Qatar and Bahrain would later do it with UAE. British would have done nothing since it was done democratically.

Zik refused, abandoned the East, went back to Lagos and became the senate President. Shouting one Nigeria upanda without calming to ask if his people needed one Nigeria.

What should we do now? Buhari is doing what's best for his own people.... including his people in Niger Republic
