Let us see who blinks first! Fintech are waiting to pounce on any shortcoming of the banks. Customer is king and i expect mtn to have the upper hand because there are alternatives to the bank but difficult to move to other network. I have ten to twenty fours hours external battery for laptop for sale. You will be impressed!.

MTN will loose this fight.

Let dem continue with their initial gragra.
Most Nigerians knows little or nothing about Flutterwave, Jumia Pay, OPay, Kuda, Carbon and BillsnPay.

I stand with banks on this.
I biliv all these platforms are still link to individual bank accounts, if bank disconnects flutterwave and co ,how would they transfer ? Just wondering.

how will the money in my bank account get to fintech's?...will. there be a relationship between the two?
The Fintechs will come up with a solution to that. The real fight here is that MTN don't want to pay the banks for the services rendered. And they don't want to be seen passing that cost to the customer. Fintechs have absolutely NO issues doing that

The banks cannot o. If they don't want to loose patronage. I for see a situation where Kuda Bank will jump on this

It might be one of the reasons.

Let the banks pay their debts
Talking about debts, has your beloved MTN paid a dime yet of the $5bn fine by NCC? Or they managed to maneuver? They're criminals, they've done nothing but take advantage of subscribers. When was the last time you got value for your money from mtn? Trying not to sound biased, but like their compatriot, Shoprite, i feel they should just pack up and leave.

This is of course an opportunity for other platforms to shine, especially the indigenous ones, I spot flutterwave.

Imagine you develop an online payment system which is then adopted by mtn giving you and your team 2.5% of every recharge made through your app, that percentage looks small but volume matters.
Omonthe percentage nor small oo. The banks are just greedy. If you know how much airtime people buy electronically everyday. MTN can chop data like mad but their internet service is the best. Some people recharge more than 5k per day.

Wahala dey.....They will still lose millions of transactions.

How many people are on those platforms or are ready to download the appshuh

USSD links with Bank Account is the most common and very easy to use for Nigerians.

Anyways, it's trade war, let's see who wins.

MTN giving Nigerian subscribers opportunity to reactive , recharge their abandoned alternative (Glo, Airtel, 9mobile) lines
Nobody go near that glo. They are too useless.

Banks will lose while fintechs will grow rapidly
how many people have smartphone to do that? Most them prefer ussd.
Those who do self don't even know or would download any apps for just mtn.
Mtn has a lot to lose if they chose to be greedy. They are not the only network in nigeria, why have they decided to have all the money to themselves?

That's how their greediness made them start the trend of 10 naira on paper airtime. The trends that never stopped today. If banks are forced to charge commission for recharging online, the other networks will follow. Then you will have to start paying 120 for 100 card online too.

While few fintech company will grow, mtn is too dispensable for people to stress themselves over.

I for one, I have not recharged mtn for days now cos I don't have any reason to, even though they are my main line. Will they give me data to download those apps? Or will they give me extra ram on my phone for those apps?

I trust only bank apps and quickteller. And since they yanked them off I have been buying airtime on my other sim.

Mtn is not worth me doing anything for them when they have not done anything for me.

Don't lie.

Anyhoo, go and try glo now. Their network has improved significantly.

its OK if you have no answer to that cos there's no way their millions of customers will put their money with in the hands of fintech...I guess fintech will still have something to do with the banks....

They won't, they have the numbers, I might be wrong all the numbers of the banks involved combined does not reach the subscriber base of MTN. If the Government want to achive Banking inclusion, its only through the Telcos they can achieve it.
the numbers that could disappear if people can't easily recharge their line abi?

And you think banks cannot charge the platforms the exact percentage they want from mtn, u biliv they will give flutterwaves and co express way to go into their domains for mtn? Not logical and reasonable.

Where do you get those kind of DP you upload? Is there a particular site or page?
Re: USSD: MTN Snubs Banks, Links 77 Million Subscribers To FINTECH Platforms by shegun4sur:
Mtn has nothing to loose. Mtn will not loose a customer because the customer cannot recharge or transact via ussd. Moreso now that there are alternative means.
Meanwhile banks loose out on the offer which they consider small. They have all to loose.

But had it been mtn have the interest of subscribers at heart, the fees paid by their subscribers for ussd ought to be very low, that is when mtn would've done something good for once, but no they're reducing the commission without reducing what customer pays in order to maximize their own revenue.

It is reported that they reduce the commission they give to those banks from 3.5% to 2.5%, that is the course of the problem, nothing hidden anywhere.
Ok...so MTN reduces the commission of the banks to 2.5%, which the bank also shares with the aggregators, and MTN takes about 97.5% for themselves.

So how do the banks maintain their apps and USSD platforms with the little percentage given to them Which MTN benefits greatly from because it’s convenient for its subscribers?

Who is greedy here?...MTN or banks?
And then overnight MTN announces an alternative platform as if they’ve not got it all planned from the onset.

Why are other networks not in a feud with banks?

When Interswitch started in the 90s a lot of people said "There's NO WAY cards and ATMs can work in Nigeria". Today almost everyone uses a card and pay for that. It's just a matter of time. Technology is an enabler and this move by MTN just gave Fintechs an opening to massively enter that market. The choice is for customers to look for physical Top-up cards to manually load their lines or leverage the technology offered by Fintech. Have you stopped to ask why this move was done over the Easter period? Or you think it was a knee-jerk action by ALL the banks?

All of you shouting bank will lose, how the hell will they loose? Is mtn the only network? You mean people will stop banking because of mtn? How will your money get to those so called "fintech" without the bank?
You all should stop this sentimental shit, mtn deducts money from us and they don't want to pay the bank's share? Who is the thief?

Both MTN and the banks are thieves. But one steals and use the money here in Nigeria and the other steal and look for cunning way to pack the money to South Africa. I'll go with the naija thief on this one. MTN like other South African company sees Nigeria as a Cash cow, they milk the citizens with help of other Nigerians and try to pack all the money back to their country through the backdoors
Re: USSD: MTN Snubs Banks, Links 77 Million Subscribers To FINTECH Platforms by rajiedreez: 11:14am On Apr 04, 2021
I'm trying to understand your point of view, but you didn't put into consideration that the banks were the ones that enabled the so called interswitch. Interswitch can't work independently neither can fintech. everything is connected to banks in Nigeria. If a new technology comes now that promises the banks better return than interswitch, they'll dump interswitch in no time. A good example was when CBN directed the banks to shut accounts of crypto vendors it reduced the purchase of the digital currencies all together. If the banks intends to put the plug on fintech company they'll have no bank remit and coordinate their transactions, because it you buy airtime from them they'll have to send the money from their own accounts to the networks account in the banks and that's what the crypto guys were doing before CBN pulled the plug on them. So if a solution isn't found soon consumers will feel the heat and MTN will loose than the Banks
