Starting small to ensure he pays his bills without feeling entitled is not a crime because he is looking beyond this day. 3. How much do you think the salary of a lecturer in Nigeria is( let's not consider the part that they are either owed or paid percentages). Now if he works as a "maiguard" @ 8.72 pounds per hour 40 per week that leaves him with 348pounds per week. Tax deductions will take 40 quid, leaving with 308x4=1,232. Rent and all including feeding takes 800 from him and he will be left with 432 multiplied by 660= 285,160. Which is more than his salary. I'm trying to imagine how he will save such in Nigeria if he isn't involved in a shady business. Truth is what works for you cannot work for someone else. Laslas Buhari will still leave as a president, people will den be made to understand that no one has monopoly of stupidity, nepotism and madness.

I am not sure you read the story or perhaps you did not understand it ma. These are people doing well in Nigeria yet travelled overseas and decided to cheat the system of their host country.
Not everyone wants to go Yankee ma. Not even by this crooked manner . All the preliminary signs are always there. A crocodile in Nigeria can't become a Tiger in UK/US. That Henry guy must have been breaking the laws but getting away with it in Nigeria, he just carried such obnoxious behaviour overseas and unfortunately for him, he now can't get away with it anymore.

If he is not a law breaker, he should have left UK and returned home rather than living the rest of his life as a fugitive.
When people create problems for themselves they should be honest to admit it instead of blaming others or their native country.

Some people are so good on their jobs here in Lagos that they are routinely sent overseas to work and they return home even before their visa expires.I sometimes cringe when I see some Nigerians hustling overseas getting paid far less in overseas for what they can earn more for here at home but too ashamed to come back home.

I try not to judge the desperation of people fleeing unstable countries because they often flee to the countries that helped destabilize their nation...

But the idea of people coming to countries and doing all these things that evade personal responsibility. Like, why come here and have multiple baby mamas but then do all you can to avoid financial responsibility for them? Do you even do that in your own country?? Disgusting.

Or coming here and not respecting the legal age limit, thereby victimizing our kids... and why watch porn on the job? The fact that these are considered common things to warn against... is this Nigerian culture to sleep with teenagers and watch pornography at work?

A lot of Nigerians travel abroad and engage in criminal activity. Sometimes they are forced into it such as with human trafficking but sometimes they leave with intentions of engaging in such. There should be more respect shown to the country they are visiting, to its people, and its laws.

In developed countries, there are two kinds of people that don't commit crimes: (a.) People who are law-abiding and (b.) People who know that the long arm of the law would eventually get them if they commit crimes regularly.

In Nigeria, the second group (b.) is a very small minority because our law enforcement is both ineffective and inefficient. That's why some of them travel abroad with a criminal mind-set that they can always cheat people and the system.

Op i don't know how old this story is but i think the nurse part is misleading. Years ago UK government Conservative government David Cameron amend the highly skilled visa requirements by making it harder now Boris Johnson has changed it to point base system like that of Australia.

Last year some foreign nurses (outside EU) with expired visas were given special dispensation to continue working because the country was in crisis.

Yeah people must do anything to survive if you want to stay. Some claim assylum here etc.

One thing here is no room for laziness especially if you have no one. i have seen people that arrived here with nothing but now they have house or houses meaning they are house owner. (Legit) everything is hardwork here yes is not easy but life itself no easy now.

Back to your highly skilled insurance guy, had it been when he got here he enrolled in professional sch part time while doing security, when his visa expired he could have continued with sch and with UK qualifications he should be able to get a better job while his employer will help him to renew his status.

Also had it been he worked long hours to earned more money his visa home office should have renew his pali. Also whenever you want to renew is better you use immigration lawyer cuz they know all the lopeholes.

I'm a business man that has done well for himself in this same so called failed state, and I've traveled to many countries on business and holidays. I also know there are poor and struggling people even in the most developed countries. Yes, their overall standard of living might be better than what we have here, but most of such countries have come a long way in terms of governance and economic development. They probably passed this phase we are passing currently. But the difference between them and people like you is that they never gave up on their country.
You can say and entertain whatever negativity you like about your country, if it gives you satisfaction, but don't try to force it on others. No one is saying here is a paradise, no where is a paradise anyways, but we have potentials for growth and prosperity like other advanced countries whether you believe it or not.

I know a a guy here Nigerian guy he was a lecturer in Nigeria came here for his Phd program, now he run adult educational program for Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME).

Anyone who is lucky enough to leave nigeria especially one from a low income/poor income/ middle income background has started a process to redefine his future. Only a fool would migrate to the WEST and not have a definite purpose. I've actually seen lots of African immigrants in the US with no papers, no jobs but totally hungry for opportunities and success. And on God,they be living real good ATM. It's all about determination.


I met one Nigerian. Kunle in 2014. He got to the us with a B1/B2 Visa and decided to stay back. He was a lawyer in nigeria. Although he wasn't practicing. No firm would accept him. He said he stayed home for almost four years, Hoping and praying.

When he finally linked up with another coursemate who already left to further his education in the US (as per a wealthy man's son) via social media.

He processed his paperwork for visa and luckily he got it. He got to the US. His friend refused to meet him up at JFK to pick him up. Infact his line wasn't available at that time.

He walked out of the airport, got a taxi and luckily he got a Jamaican taxi driver. Also an immigrant, although he's got his PR. Kunle told the driver his issue. For some reason, the driver bought his story and took him to (I don't wanna give out vital info) where he'd be staying but not for free. He's gotta work to keep up(pay rents and stuffs). The Jamaican's were solid. He did cleaning and laundry for them until he got a handle on things. Over time, he worked at a grocery and did security services. It took him a year to fully integrate. Without papers it was a tad difficult but considering his location, ICE were not on his tail.


Anyway, long story short. He went back to school. A community college in NYC. It's free. He was still working. But he changed his field. From law to Nursing.

I later asked why nursing?

He said, because he was no longer a young adult to start up another career that'd take up to 5years to achieve. Besides he couldn't practice law in the US , since nigerian law is very different from that of the US.

2019, July he finally got married but he already got a son in 2018 from same woman. She's a medical practitioner in the same outlet as him.

His life is forever changed and that of his children.

Y'all never wondered why Actress Regina Asika with all her fame at that time still left Nigeria to start afresh as a Nurse in the US?

Most prominent families send their wives abroad to give birth so their children can have dual citizenship. Why? Even with all their power and wealth here in Nigeria. Why go abroad?
